This P30Pro is pretty great, but I found two things that stand out... In a bad way.
1) This phone has Cloud backup function but its settings are useless. I Disabled gallery backup (it clearly says Disabled) - it's still backing up the gallery - which is a major privacy problem. It also saves the stored music - for which there's no setting to turn off.
I want the Cloud app to save the apps/settings, but not personal files and I didn't find any way to do that.
2) Call volume in earpice is very, very low. Compared with other "normal" phones like Galaxy S8, on this one I can barely hear the other person. I found some Huawei support pages mentioning "extra volume" when holding/tapping volume up then already maxed out, but there's no such function. Is there anything we can do about this?

I successfully rooted my NC and other than two issues, things seem to be fine. One of the issues is that the default notification sound has reverted to what sounds like an old, landline telephone ring. When ever I get an email, content the NC to my computer, or anything else that triggers a notification, it "rings". I've looked in the system/media/audio/notifications folder, and all of the notifications are in there and have the proper permissions. I've also tried recopying the whole notifications folder from the B&N 1.0.1 manual update zip and clearing the cache, but still the problem persists. Furthermore, I've played all the OGG files in the notifications folder, and I can't even find one that sounds like what I am hearing, so where is this sound coming from, and how can I restore the default one?
I wish I could at least figure out where this notification sound file is, so I could overwrite it...
Hi there,
take a look here. It should help you with your situation.

Thanks for the reply. I saw that already, but the OnTheHunt.ogg file is not the sound my Nook is making. The sound my Nook makes is literally like an early model cell phone ring. I notice it most when connecting to my computer to transfer files (so presumably the USB Mode notification sound). It is also plays as the "Default Ringtone" sound available under GMail notification sound settings.
Messed up default notification sound
I think I have the same problem, and it is annoying. The default sound resembles some kind of digital alarm clock sound (or as you put it, an old cell phone). It happens most prominently when connecting or disconnecting the USB cable, but also if you leave the default notification in Gmail.
I've tried pulling all the sound files via ADB and none of them match, and also tried programmatically setting the default to a specific sound via RingtoneManager.setActualDefaultRingtoneUri() in a stupid test app, which changes nothing. Very perplexing.
Take a listen to the attached recording and see if it is the same sound.
notification sound
Did anyone ever figure this out?
I was trying to enable ADB on my nook color and in the process I also seemed to have 'lost' my usual notification sound and ended up with this annoying ring! Anybody found a solution?
Long time iphone 1st gen and then iphone 4 user and while I like certain aspects of my first android phone, i.e the openness of the software Im coming up short on a few simple tasks.
1. Notifications, I have tried Widget locker for them on the lockscreen but while they show for phone and messages, they dont for gmail and email. I have tried go notifications but that doesnt seem to do anything at all. I just cant seem to find anything that just works as it did so seamlessly on the iphone.
2. My bluetooth headset doesnt seem to be as smooth as on iphone either, pushing the button on my headset doesnt seem to enable the voice dialling or wake my phone up. If I switch on my phone and then press the button it seems to eventually start working, but it can be hit and miss.
3. Battery Life seems really poor and I have to charge every night even after only light use. Im use power saving, easy task manager and easy battery manager but it doesnt seem to be helping all that much.
Other things like the camera not seeming to match the iphone, the screen apart from the great size not matching the iphone quality and the battery life not being anywhere close to the iphones are bugbears but things I could learn to live with if I could get notifications, bluetooth and battery running better.
The fact I can plug in usb sticks and hook up to the tv and upgrade my memory with a simple sd card are fantastic additions and Im really trying to fall in love with this phone, but just struggling a little.
Any help?

1. Try using settings in gmail and email (instead of global settings)
3. Install newest firmware. If not using your phone, you should then get a maximum consumption of 1-2% per hour which is a good value.
Nothing in settings of either email program will put notification bubbles in home or lock screen, it's purely at the top bar.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes, that's the way it is in android.
Maybe you like BackLightNotification (BLN) which is offered in some custom roms. You also need an app for customize and activate this.
Maybe you try GO Launcher at your homescreen...I think you can have notifications for sms with this...but I am not sure.
Currently I use Simplicity Rom 2.1.1 with Semaphore Kernel 2.6.0beta.
Download DroidNotify from the market, that will solve your notification issues at least....
I would suggest you Juice Defender (android market) for battery life..install it, set at extreme and voula! ..your data connections will be disabled when screen off, you can set your smartphone to go into airplane mode over night (saving you a lot of juice)
If you manage to get one of OC/UV (overclock/undervolt) app that works on stock ROMs (I would suggest Tegrak overclock app), you can have even more juice..with undervolting.
I have this problem with this phone, but also with every Xiaomi phone I ever used. I put every permission and every "battery management" setting to its most permissive level for the Mega app, however I cannot ever get the picture/video auto-backup feature to work.
However I also have a Huawei phone that has a similarly aggressive permission management system, but surprisingly I was able to make it work. I found that out of the two, Huawei's system is more user-friendly.
Hi all,
I did make a thread as a guest user but unfortunately I can't find it anymore so I've made an account and I'll repost/better explain the issues I've come across.
1) RAM Management
Whenever I close all active apps it says it has around 3GB of memory available, the phone comes with 6GB of memory so I'm wondering why it's only giving me 3GB available, surely the OS can't be using the other 3GB to run.
2) The camera
Right so this one comes down to the low light photography, I've upgraded to the P20 Pro from the Samsung S7 Edge. The S7 Edge did low light photography pretty damn well, and in the release conference Huawei state that the device can reach an ISO of 102400 however when in the Pro mode I can only set the slider to be 3200, yet the automatic mode takes it up to 6400. I find it very odd that an automatic setting can go higher than a manual one.
On my S7 Edge I can take a photo in an unlit room and still have it turn out reasonably well, I am expecting the P20 Pro with it's alleged high ISO to provide a better image, yet when I try this with the same settings as the S7 Edge I get a black image. I'm willing to put this down to user incompetence as I'm not a photographer... so if anyone can explain this to me then I'd be greatly appreciative.
3) Game resolutions
I copied all apps from my old phone to the P20 Pro, but half of them don't work. When the apps first launch I get the option to keep them at their native resolution or to force a fullscreen mode, no matter which option I select the menus for the games are all skewed and off screen. It renders most of my games unplayable (pun not intended). Could this be a resolution problem with the phone?
4) The Camera (again)
When taking portrait shots, the background is blurry. This is actually a pretty nice feature but sometimes I want to get a picture of me WITH something decorative on a wall behind me. I can't find a setting to turn the blur off.
5) Phone Management (the in built app)
This one is pretty straight forward to explain, IT NEVER REACHES 100%. The highest it's ever been is 96%, right now my phone is fully charged, has no apps open, is not performing any background tasks and is at 90% efficiency. I don't understand what it takes to get to 100%.
I'm sure there will be fixes for things as apps update and patches are released but if anyone could provide any assistance on the issues mentioned above then that'd be awesome.
I'll answer the following
2) Same iso settings on mine, switch to pro and change the settings
3) Either clear the data/cache or uninstall and reinstall the games from play store, remember this is a different phone and the defined settings could be wrong
4) click on the icon in bottom left (highlighted orange) to turn it off/on
Where did you get the phone from, which sim you using, which firmware you on.
Regarding the portrait question, when in portrait mode there are 3 settings above the shoot option, press the one on the left to turn bokeh off.

I've just reinstalled the apps from the Playstore, unfortunately they have the same issue still.
Thanks for clearing up the bokeh problem!
I got my phone from O2, it's an O2 SIM and the firmware is CLT-L09 8.1.0.103

yours is single sim and different firmware to mine is dual sim and firmware CLT-L29 8.1.0.102(C782)
I did miss off on the iso info that the high iso is only selected automatically by the phone when it's needed, ideally it would be good if could set the iso manually as well to the full range
Regarding 3: I could imagine its a programming issue. Depending on what method the games use to obtain information about screen sizes they could bypass options like fullscreen mode or so. This could be a problem on the phone software side that the fullscreen or native option is not overriding all access methods or the games not using the android API correctly.
I hope thet they will get us ISO 102400 and shutter speed 60 seconds for Pro Mod in updates. If you look at P20 Pro lunch day you will see that they shoot photo with 58 seconds of shutter speed. Now P20 Pro can just shoot maximum 30 seconds of shutter speed.
This thread has had a number of the containing posts cleaned from it. If you don't like a particular phone, don't post hatred for that phone or the OEM who makes it in a thread about said phone. It's really unnecessary.

Nobody said they don't like the phone? I actually quite like it. I've come to this forum because this is literally the only place where some people could have answers to some questions I have about it, whether they be a fault with the phone or my misunderstanding of the functions.
Your comment posed no benefit to any of the questions raised, you don't need to comment. It's really unnecessary.

Actually, the first person who's comment I deleted said multiple things about not liking the phone. The reason you can't see it is because, as I said in the post that you felt necessary to reply to, I have cleaned the thread of said messages.
Your reply to a moderator's post posed no benefit to the way that the forum is run and maintained, you don't need to comment. It's really unnecessary. Do it again and you'll find that you'll be reprimanded. Have a wonderful day. :victory:
Hello,
I recently bought a S20 FE which is my first Samsung phone ever. I came from Huawei P20 Pro (and a Sony and Iphone before that) and i have a few questions, that i hope you guys can help me with:
How do i backup my Samsung phone to a PC?
Huawei has the "HiSuite" PC-software that connects to your phone and allow easy backup/restore functions for calls, text messages,
contacts, pictures etc.. Is there a similar software for Samsung?
Backup to Samsung Cloud: I don't have the option to activate automatic backups, i can only do it manually (nothing in the three-dot menu). Am I missing something?
Thank you in advance,
Dan

The tool provided for Samsung for backup and restore purposes is SmartSwitch, regarding the automatic backup I always had activated this option by default and had to do it the other way around to deactivate it. If you can provide some screenie or maybe you can enable it open your account via PC.
Thanks for your answers @SubwayChamp
I'll get SmartSwitch.
I've accessed Samsung Cloud from my PC and from my phone, but couldn't find any options to activate automatic backup there.
When i go to settings > Accounts and backup > Under"Samsung Cloud" : Backup data
Here i can choose what to backup and at the bottom there is a button to backup (manually). There is no option to enable automatic backups. The three dots menu only has "More info" but no options.
Edit:
I was looking in the wrong place. Followed the guide here, and i didn't look in the right place.
Had to look in Samsung Cloud settings, and there i found the "Auto back up" option. My bad.

Good, that´s what I thought.
Do Not use Smart Switch! It can fail you miserably. Cloud crap is unsuitable for large data bases and hogs bandwidth and battery.
Do a direct folder to folder cut & paste.
Verify it was a good copy.
Always backup the PC backup files to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other.
Do not clone or compress data to hdds as it can remove needed null marks!
Thanks for the warning @blackhawk.
I am a bit surprised that i would resort to use copy/paste on a fairly new phone from one of the biggest cell-phone manufacturers in the world.

You're welcome.
It's reliable and verifiable (always verify and test the copy). Recopied an unclean transfer don't attempt to "repair" it
Over the years I learned why to use only cut/paste the hard way. The only thing I will clone copy is an OS/loaded apks.
Data damage/lose is not acceptable.
I have about 1.5 tb of data... I don't screw around with it trying shortcuts.
