My Mi 9 won't turn on or charge also when I tried connecting it to the PC it didn't recognize it same with fastboot. It happened for the first time few days but I was able to turn it on after few hours . After that it worked fine for a few days until yesterday and I haven't been able to turn it on since. The phone wasn't dropped or damaged in anyway. Did anyone have a same experience or any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Hi,
I'm a Mi5 3/64 (black) user since 1 month, I bought it from Geekbuying.
Since 1 months the phone was hardbricked twice:
First time I left it overnight with 40% of battery and when I woke up in the morning the phone was dead, no life at all. I tried to charge it for couple of hours but it didn't help. Luckily I was able to flash MIUI through Miflash, so after that I was able to turn on my mobile and start again from zero. Terrible.
Second time it happened while I was charging my mobile. When it had 90% of battery I switched the mobile off. After one or two hours, still connected to charger I tried to turn it on but it was dead again. No life at all. I tried to charge it for couple of hours and nothing. So I left it and the next day I tried to turn it on by any chance and the red LED started to blink. Tried to charge for a while, but still without success. Connected to my laptop and it was visible in MiFlash, so I flashed latest Miui dev and now I can start again setting up my mobile.
What should I do now? Does it look like battery issue? I'm afraid that it will happen again after 2-3 weeks.
Somebody else had this issue? Did you ever return smth to Geekbuying and received item or refund back?
I wrote to Geekbuying and they just recommended me to flash this - https://goo.gl/jLBSsa I think it's bull****, just an old Miui ROM.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Was just going to restart the device and flash supersu binarys, tried to restart into recovery, eventually it died, couldnt boot it at all, doesnt respond while charging neither when plugging into the computer. I've no idea what happened but for me it feels like it was the battery failed. I was on lineage 170109 with brand kernel 3.3

Yes, so your issue is similar to mine. Terrible, no idea what's wrong with this phone and geekbuying support is terrible.
Use MiFlash to temporary make your device alive.

Using Mac but don't want to hassle, just bought a new battery from ebay instead and hope it will fix the problem.
On another community people told me that the main board is faulty, they say that it's the common issue in mi5.

Hi there,
As the title says, my Mi5 doesn't charge unless I turn off the phone. If I keep it turned off then it charges, If I turn it off, plug the charger and turn it on while charging then it's ok, the charging process continues. If I unplug the charger in the process then I have to turn it off again. Connecting to the PC via USB can also be done only by turning the phone off.
I tested it with 3 different cables and chargers which otherwise work on different phones.
I tested this on Xiaomi EU ROM and on Lineage OS as well.
I'm thinking this issue is software sided since I can charge it while it's turned off. Did anybody else encounter this issue? And ideas on how to solve this problem?
Thanks,
Frost
Hi,
i'm having the exact same problem.
the weird thing is that even in TWRP USB only works when it is connected during power up...
Which rom are you using ?
Maybe dirty flash causes this. Or there are some problems with the kernel. Try flashing stock miui.
have tried the lineage (20170718), and the latest MIUI versions (global and china, stable and develop). no change
This problem has just presented itself on my phone. Mi5 32GB. AFAIK I didnt change or do anything. Have since completely clean flashed including firmware and it still does it. Did anyone find a solution for this? Totally bizarre!!
Currently:
Mi5 32GB/3GB
Cosmic OS 3.1 Oreo 8.1
Firmware 7.9.22
Unofficial Gapps 01/06
Try a different kernel, for example Soda Kernel
You can try fix:

I no longer have the Mi 5 and I don't remember if I fixed the problem or not, I think resetting to factory default MIUI might have solved the problem.
I had the same issue, and resolved it by deleting "Advanced Charging Constroller", a Magisk moduel.
Hope it helps if you are in the same situation.
Hey guys,
my 1 year old Xiaomi Mi 5 has a problem. It just turnes black after some time and I am not able to turn it back on by pressing the power button until I unplug and plug back in the battery. Which I had to do 2 times because the first time it somehow didn't work.
So, after what time does it turn black/off?
- Last time I was able to do everything for about 2-3 days until it turned itself off
- The time before it worked about 1-2 days
Last time I did that precedure the battery wasn't working properly. It didn't show me any percentage and after I unplugged it went black. So I unplugged and replugged the battery again and it worked. Maybe there was a connection issue I don't know. The only strange thing was that the battery was at 0% and started charging normally, but I charged it up to 100% the day before and didn't use it much. It was at about 80-90% when I got to bed.
I had the official Xiaomi Global Developer version of MIUI 9 installed. After the first failure I switched to the Ciaomi Global Stable ROM and I had the same issues. Now after about 2 months I thought about trying to repair it. Dowloaded and installed the newest Xiaomi Global Stable MIUI9 ROM and it failed me after 2-3 days.
I have never repaired a smartphone. Repairing shouldn't be the problem either, but I don't know what causes the issues.
It works for some days and then suddenly breaks. Can the motherboard really be broken if everything works for days and then breaks?
Battery is also working properly. Can get through a day without a problem of running out of battery.
I am really clueless what could cause the issues. Do you guys have any ideas?
IF you need any information feel free to ask.
Thanks for trying to help,
SkyForCe
try any anther rom and new adapdter
Hi, I have mi 5 phone and last week he stopped working while the battery was 70%. I read other theards in the forum until I found the answer - it can be fixed by disconnecting and connecting the battery again ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71035343&postcount=4 ), I was suprised to see that the phone came back to life - but after this the same thing happened two times this week...
So I got a solution, but this is something like using a car you need to connect to other car to ignite. Do you guys have a solution? maybe it's something can be solved by software, or buying a new battery? thanks!
Hi Guys,
So I have been using information on XDA for a number of years but only now encountered a problem that I have to start this thread.
My A2 sunning stock Pie, it wont charge, I cant connect to the computer to unlock BL and flash Oreo and I have today tried to boot to EDL via testing point.
Nothing, nothing works, I can get some power in it slowly but the charge keep turning off, I would presume that cause it starts to charge it wouldnt be the data cable at fault.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea's for this one?
Many thanks in advance
Yes I have exact same problem I have found no solution if you find one please let me know

Happening since your Pie update?
Try another charger. It worked for me.
Most likely Xiaomi's original charger is not able to supply the proper mA to charge the phone.
I installed AccuBattery to check the current charge's mA and sometime is ok (over 1600) but others is not sending any current.
Also, sometimes original charger works fine after 3 or 4 retries.
There's a slightly chance that this could be a software issue after latest February Android Pie update.
