With the Sprint LG G8 already having a bootloader unlock and permanent root already available, has anyone tested one out for the T-Mobile LG G8? A temp root is a available for an older firmware version for the T-Mobile LG G8. So would a permanent root be available too?

Yeah, it's untested though. It's much better to ask these kinds of questions in the telegram group to get more info, so just search up "lg v50" in telegram and join the group with around 700 members

With the LG V40 finally being in stores in Europe, does anyone know if the EU version is unlockable at this moment? Or is no V40 unlockable at the moment, regardless of region, SKU and simlock or simfree?
Edit: EU SKUs:

LV-V405EBW
Possible? Yes. Risky? HIGHLY! The phone is still relatively new to the market, from the developer's view. Let them fiddle with it a while. Better to wait for a safe way. The phone has SO much potential, so I doubt it'll be ignored for long.

Its interesting that for the V30 at first it was NOT on their site as unlockable, but a few tried it and it seems like if you manually entered the device details it WAS unlockable! I wonder if anyone has tried with the V40 this way?

Well in order to try you need the Device ID which is the "Fastboot OEM Device-ID" aka you need Bootloader Access just to try to unlock the Bootloader but most variants just reboot when trying to access it...so we need someone with access to that to try it

I've tried with my unlocked B&H V40. I even tried the page source edit that worked for the V30 a while back. No luck. It said that bootloader unlock was for the LG-V405QA was not "yet" available.
Interesting that is said "yet", so maybe it will be soon, I guess we will have to wait and see. Not sure why they make such a big deal about unlocking bootloader/rooting, I mean other than a few guys bricking phones, does root really cost LG that much of an issue?
V405EBW is in supported list now.

Very nice!! Now for the V30 it says "LG V30: H930 and H930G for the European market" although the US998 version seemed to work. Maybe V40 US version will be in the same boat.

I get this error on the LG Developer website.
Unfortunately, your device( Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, (HONG KONG), LMV405EBW.HKG.
Is there a way to change the image on it for something else than LMV405EBW.HKG ???

I’m looking for this as well I purchased in the uk it’s Europe model with HKG firmware.
V10b-HKG-XX and would like GBR but doing this would stop any OTA updates I think..it did with my G7.

But it's NOT supported! The LG Developer site simply lists LMV405EBW as being supported. It makes no mention at all of which versions of LMV405EBW are actually supported. In other words, their list is garbage and cannot be relied upon. How is the buying public meant to know if LG wont be straightforward about it and be honest? There is no official information from LG or anyone as to the differences between them. Which raises an obvious point. If LG can allow the 'European' version to be unlocked then why can't they do it for the HK or 'international' version as well?
I had naively assumed that LMV405EBW meant LMV405EBW!
It's not good enough and I have sent a pointed and direct email to LG, telling them to lift their game. Very frustrating.

What about the unlocked version? Will that also be hard to root with OEM bootloader unlock?

Can this T-Mobile firmware be flashed over the Verizon software? Also, is there an unbranded firmware that can be used for American phones kind of like the way Samsung S series are?
Just got my tmo g8 yesterday, there is very little bloat. It seems to mostly respect lg's work. Not sure if that's a concern for you.
I thought the bootloaders were locked on all the US variants. How exactly would you flash this?

You can flash it with lg UP, but only to the intended variant, i don't believe we have a modified dll to allow us to cross flash kdz's between different models.
Hey everyone,
seems like LG also updated the Korean V40 (V409N) to Pie (Source: https://www.lge.co.kr/lgekor/contents/mobile/swUpgradeDetail.do?swSeq=881 )
Would be nice if we had some Korean users here too, who would be nice enough to pull/upload a kdz (or atleast grab a link to it)
Should be able to get it to work on the V405EBW (european open market), by twrp flashable zip (will publish all that as soon as its stable and i have a bit more time)
Best regards
Markus
Edit: its public now

Well, OTA for the models which its already released for.
Verizon/Sprint already seem to have it. Korean models now too (even though no kdz available there yet it seems... or LG just put the SW update notice there and forgot to push the actual update....)

Hi,
I just read about that the Android 10 Preview is available for the Koren LG G8 Variant. I used Quick Help (Settings - General - Support) and clicked the Banner on the Front Page. After that I'm stuck. I need to login or create a LG Account which I did. After that i get a Error Message that the country which the Account was created in a country which don't have the LG Account Test App..
Was any G8 user able to get the preview running? Or maybe someone knows a Temporary Mail Page where I can create a korean mail address?
PS:
I live in the Philippines and own a Korean G8 Triple Cam Version.
Thanks
Chris

US and tmobile are not the same phone versions
I now have an officially unlocked LG V40 thinq even though it is NOT on their official list of supported devices. I bought a LMV405EBW, (Australian version) naively thinking it was a supported device. To me, if it had the same model number it should be treated as unlockable. When i asked LG why NONE of their phones sold here could be officially unlocked but their 'European' versions could they couldn't provide an answer except say that my version wasn't supported. Nor could they provide any reason WHY it wasn't supported..
Eventually LG relented and provided me with an unlock code. Which raises the obvious question of if they can easily and quickly provide me with an unlock code why can't they do that across the board?

But doesn't the buying public have a right to know this information? Again, I ask why one version can be unlocked officially but not others?

Okay, well here's what I'd suggest. If you run into problems wit that guide, post the problem in that guide. That way people who have done it can help. When you post you had an issue in some different thread, it's very possible that those that have had success doing it aren't going to read the other thread, and thus you end up with no help.
I can tell you I've done it, I know it works, but there are some hurdles you have to get over, like working with windows and qfil, getting windows and adb and fastboot to work, which means installing the right drivers for windows, which can be a pain...
but, the help you need is in that thread, not here.
I will try all those steps in thread & share to you soon
I could not find proper USB Drivers for LG V40 THINQ & I am unable to enter fast boot mode or EDL mode . Pls help me
What to be done to boot into android, I have unlocked bootloaders by using Qfil , V35 engine Sir.
