so i've been playing Injsutice: Gods Among Us with mobile data (for me to logged on and to access daily challenges), after 20-30 mins of playing, the game started to drop its framerate and i felt the phone is hot. I exited the game and i accidentally press the camera icon, to my surprise, the camera says something like, 'You can not use the Camera due to high temperatere...."
so i installed elixir and cpu-z for me to know the temperature, after several hours, i tried again to play Injustice with mobile data off, the phone became hot after 40minutes of game play and it has a fluid framerate and the camera works fine. the temperature was around 47C.
i cooled down the phone, and played with mobile data on, after 20mins the game drops it's framerate and the camera is not working again. it has a temperature of 49.6C
the question is:
- i know playing hd graphics keeps the phone hot, but is it normal to all z1 users especially when it's already forcing the CPU/GPU to lower its performance and prevent the camera from being used?
- do i have the right to get a replacement for the phone?
- have you also experienced this when gaming? especially online?
note:
- i'm running a rooted, locked bootloader, firmware .136
- underclocked at 1.75GHz

Try to record you problem and ask for a replacement, this is not a normal behavior....
tnx for your opinion, i think i need to read more about z1 overheating issues

QuadCore running for several minutes means heat generally.
But beside what phone exactly do to control heat the apps u use are important too.
for example famous angry birds make my phone hot! But Fifa-14 doesn't!
under-clocking doesn't mean certainly u won't get battery draining or heat issue
it needs also compatible kernel
anyway heat issue is not always because of hardware cause there s also heat-controller (or sth like this) inside firmware that can working not so good and u should repair ur phone by PCC
to be sure if it s hardware problem and ask for replacement, first completely restock it.

try underclocking your cpu to 900mhz you'll notice no slowdowns in game but the phone will still overheat, that is because the GPU is causing the overheat and is the one struggling in games, not the monstreous CPU in the z1. you can try flashing doom kernel or AOSP kernel by android.fr to underclock your GPU.
The phone will get hot anyway, doesn't take much, but playing a hd game will cook the bugger. Never play when plugged in if you are, put your apps on a diet and get rid of anything that you can do without, lightening your load will help a lot. Personally I wouldn't consider it a problem unless its affecting gameplay. The drop in frame rate is the CPU clocking down to protect it, which is a good thing and quite normal. So you have a case on your phone? Try it without If you do. If the phone begins to shut itself down then that's a worry and you should certainly look for a replacement.
Hope this helps.
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I decided to download Asphalt 8 last night to see how the Note 5 handles it, initially it looked good but after 20 seconds or so the frame rate slowed down considerably - I would guess less than 10 frames a second. I uninstalled it, cleared the cache, reinstalled but still the same issue. This is on High settings which is the default setting. It's like the phone starts to throttle after a short amount of time racing?
Is anyone else playing Asphalt 8, have you seen anything similar?
I downloaded AnTuTu bench and was getting over 60,000 which seems in line with other Note 5's and 3D Mark also seems to match up so i'm not sure if this is just Asphalt 8 or a bigger problem.
I installed CPU-z so I could monitor temperature and if I check it when the game is running slow the Exynos reports around 60c which doesn't seem that high?
i've only tried it on my S6e without any noticeable issues. do you have Power Saving mode off?
(Sent from another Galaxy)
Yup both power saving modes are definitely off.
There are drops in some games after minutes of gameplay, that because of Samsung TW DVFS, which basically monitors and throttles the CPU way too fast.
If u have root, u can set cpu govenor to performance when playing, that will eliminate all the lag, that what i do.
Hi everyone,
This is for all the PubG Mobile fans out here who have tried multiple roms/kernels , faced Various ROM issues because of trying under development projects on your phones just to get PubG Mobile to play well.
I tried almost all roms- stock/custom , Various kernel managers to tweak some juice into my gameplay when redemption came in the form of OnePlus's own OxygenOS 4.5.1 based on Nougat. I tried giving the older software a try just to get the game to play well. To my surprise PubG plays on HD settings with high frame rates simply beautifully. Very low heating and frame drops are minimal . I've been trying the forums with all sorts of tips tricks and techniques just to get this to play well including the PubG GFX tool none worked well at all.
I don't know what went wrong with Oxygen OS 5.0 based on Oreo that the phone simply didn't perform as good as it did while on Nougat. I am back on 4.5.1 and I couldn't be happier - speed / general work around on the ROM/ gameplay is simply amazing.
Wanted to share this out in case anyone needs help getting games to play well on our 2 year old phone. Give this a try ... None of you will be disappointed.
What else settings and/or setup you use?
I migrated from oos 8.0 to OOS 4.5.1(Oneplus 3T) and installed Elemental Ex 3.09 in September and never looked back!
I used Helix Engine for a while but phone used to lag so much in performance mode.
I play in SMOOTH and LOW settings, and use CPU MONITOR app for Cpu nd Battery temperature.
Cpu peaks average 53 °C and Battery reaches 38°C and lags so much (ping is under 100ms). Could you share your results please ?
Use mcd kernel...
I can play pubg without any lag and thermal throttling
hello. i have a xperia z. in all games with medium graphic details, in first of game all things are right but after some minutes my phone goes to unbelivable lag and after aew mintes every things gets right again. my phone is too hot while playing about 68 degree celcius. can you please tell me how to fix lagging problem?
i have installed root booster and air frozen for better performance but no difference at all. im using 3g mobile data while playing. my phone is lte but drains more battery and gets warmer if i choose lte.
I Use Lspeed in LOS 15.1 with kernel auditor for change the gpu frecuences and when im play i use a fancooler for hot problem
I play Free Fire very smooth
i play mkx on 60 fps + pes 19 38fps pubg 28fps dead trigger 2 60fps and never lag

I have same problem, but not when Gaming my z1 lag for some second and they smooth again. after some minutes my device stuck again and i try some setting cpu in kernel auditor and my phone back normal again
Smartphone hardware these days are close to perfection. The performance is overkill. The only bottleneck is the software. Crappy software prevents the users from getting the full potential of the device. I am not certain if these issues are just software related alone, if it is, then I hope Xiaomi could fix this. Flashing the latest EU ROM didn't help, so there must be an issue within MIUI's core.
1.) The phone heats up really fast
- Is this because of Samsung 5nm? I could not believe that a 5nm could heat up so easily. I am not claiming that the phone is overheating.
I have not faced any fps drops in game. I have to remove my case when playing games. Running a background app like Bittorent/Utorrent or any other downloading service will surely heat your phone quite fast, to the point where it is no longer comfortable to hold. I hope custom rom and custom kernel development will rise, so we can manually adjust the CPU frequency.
2.) 120hz is not smooth. There are noticeable micro-stutters.
I tried using the force 120hz adb command, but still I am getting micro-stutters when scrolling through apps and multi-tasking. This could be probably mean that the app itself is not optimized for 120hz phones, but Facebook, Instagram and Chrome are still having stutters and these are mainstream apps.
I could not fully enjoy the 1440p + 120hz HDR display. I already tried going down to 1080p and turning off battery saving mode. The phone would just hop between 60hz and 90hz without reason, and you have manually go to the display settings to turn on 120hz because it would just set to 60hz by itself!
