So, I've just picked up a Dell Streak 7 and so far I'm not overly impressed with the Froyo OS. If I keep it I'll likely look at one of the custom ROMs here. But I'd like to know if after flashing to a custom ROM if I'll be able to return to the factory setting? I'm asking because I'm within the store return policy so if I really don't like the tablet I can return it for a full refund.
Thanks in advance.
Everything you want to know is in the custom ROM threads and in this section. Happy reading!
Thanks, I think?
I guess I'm off to wade through them.
To my knowledge, there is no going back to the wifi only version after trying honeycomb. I installed DJ_Steves and successfully got it back to a TMobile 4G image.
You then just have to disable the Cell Standby process by renaming two of the key .apk files.
I used another tool to replace the TMobile boot animation after rooting it, and removed the TMobile apps.
Thanks for this.
I'm actually giving up on the Streak. The screen just isn't up to snuff.
I think I'm going to pick up a Nook Color and play around with it.
No problem man. This device works perfectly for my application but I cannot recommend it as a general use tablet based on the screen.
I use it docked in the center console of my car through a custom fabbed mount based on the multimedia dock. Screen looks good on my desk when docked.
I personally think that they mounted the panel upside-down. If you are in an application that will rotate, just flipping the thing in landscape mode 180 degrees mitigates all the screen issues with having it on a desk.
The cheaper dell monitors suffer the same color drop off from below in landscape mode but most folks don't notice because most of the monitors sit on the desk at or below eye level.
I would have paid $50 more for a 1280x800 IPS version @ 8" or less.
The screen is fine except for a single angle. As a Galaxy Tab and iPad user, I can say without reservation that the screen issue is blown out of proportion. It's a budget screen, sure, but it's still as good as almost any laptop/netbook screen. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 it isn't, but it's a far cry from bad.
Hello everyone, I am very interested in buying this tablet because of the win 8.1+Android boot BUT I have read mixed reviews that some come ok while others come with problems. I personally don't want to deal with broken youtube, play store and etc.
Is there like a stock android ROM for this? Will flashing a new ROM damage the windows in the Tablet? Is it fairly straightfoward like a normal android tablet? Any tips, opinions, reviews and etc. Are greatly appreciated.
I have purchased this tablet and using it for a few weeks now. Dual boot Air II (not the 3G as I've seen videos on youtube showing that they are slower than the Air II). When I first got it, the play store wasn't working, however, when I updated the software through Teclast's update app (all in chinese) it work.
I haven't had any problems with it so far, everything is working fine. I've tried some very heavy games without any lag. It just lowers the brightness if it gets to hot. Also another note, I hated their UI, I think they tried to copy iOS. So I just downloaded a custom launcher and fixed the problem.
Based from my own experience I would recommend this tablet. I also bought it for the dual boot capabilities. (came pre-installed with dual boot windows 8.1 + android 4.4.4)
im quite frustrated with mine...here are the reasons.
windows runs very well. would be great apart from the fact that the battery wont get me through a whole day of fair use. also, wifi seems to drop sometimes.
android runs SLOW. launcher stuff is a bit laggy. it has to pause to think quite often. and wifi, again seems very spotty - stops working for 30 seconds randomly - frustrating.
also....with regards putting different roms on, etc - there is less knowledge out there about the Air ii - most of the posts are relevant to the 3g model so finding solid information about the Air ii is difficult. I cant recommend at this stage...
in regards to the wifi, try turning off wifi optimization in the settings
it seemed to work better on mine after I turned it off.
buddy,
how's the battery life?
any cons now???
Got the Teclast X98 Air 2 HG8N a few days ago from TinyDeal. Arrived with dual boot 4.4/8.1, both in Chinese. Had to change to English, get online and ran OTA/Windows updates. No issues with camera orientation or Google Play. So far, very nice tablet. The Windows experience is odd. I want to swipe a lot for navigation since I've owned a few iOS/Android tablets before. Taking some getting used to actually using scrollbars again. Also found out that some sites and programs really are not designed for such a relatively small screen. Options are very small and hard to hit correctly with a finger. Stylus helps, but still tricky occasionally. I would recommend it with the caveats that it will not be in English, Android has a lot of crapware, and Windows can be tricky. I would like to install W10 and custom ROM but still trying to get a handle on the process for this model. Similar model threads are hundreds of pages, and may not be entirely compatible with this one.
Editing my post after getting a few more days hands on with this one. Initially there was a lot of focus on setup, config, tweaking, it was my new toy. Got it to a comfortable, useable state and now down to actual usage. The screen is gorgeous, that part still holds very true. The battery life is terrible. Android seems better than Windows, but I haven't done any benchmarking or close examination. It looks like for Android at least, the OS itself is consuming the most battery. I haven't gotten a single day of usage without stopping to charge at least once. I pretty much just keep it plugged up unless I walk outside with it for a bit. Right now focusing on how I can replace the pre-installed OS's and see if that will be any better. I have years of experience in IT, but not in an area like this so it is slow going for the moment. I'd recommend this still, but be prepared to tinker a long time. If you want an out of the box experience ready to go then this is not a good choice at all.
I have had my airII 3g since about february 2015. I still like it. screen is great - usually have the brightness turned right down to low as I use it indoors. have used both windows and android and it works well. I prefer to use android, windows buttons can be small to try and touch. Main use for mine is just facebook and internet browsing, and reading books, I did take it on a couple 8 hour flights and watched downloaded videos in windows and it was awesome. Speakers could be a bit louder. Once I rooted it and removed chinese android seems to run way better, battery life is good in my opinion but I guess im not a heavy user. I do have wifi drops in android although I recently downloaded wififix from playstore and it seems to be a lot better. Also after rooting i have found I rarely get the thermal brightness throttling message - cant remember last time I saw it. Tablet seems well made and has a bit of weight to it, I have mine in a Ipad air case which is good, its just the camera holes dont match. The 2.5amp charger that comes with it would be the minimum I would want to charge it with, my kids have teclast x80h with 2amp charger and its too small. I think there is also an issue when having bluetooth on for my headphone and using the wifi at same time can cause wifi to be slow. either way I am happy with purchase, knowing that at the end of the day it is a chinese tablet and would require tinkering with and maybe some issues, but its great specs for the money. I dont use 3g on it, i mainly only bought it as it was 64gig model.
It is a great device
i have the air ii hg9m and i would only recommend this to someone who is comfortable troubleshooting and fixing small issues as these chinese tablets are plagued with them, fortunately theres tons of support from this site with lots of cool people fixing any issue that might arise, as for mine (the newest air ii at the time of this hg9m) ive only had minor issues, like choppy 3d games in android, standby battery drain in windows, some overheating, slow charging and battery calibration issues, and no ota updates in android. but the basic functionality of the device has remained in tact. Thats also a huge advantage of dual os, if im having an issue with one os i can try the other to do what i want. If youre truly looking for a trouble free experience then apple is the way to go, imo they are your best bet at a good 100% trouble free experience, but you pay a lot for those odds.
Stylus?

Would you mind sharing what stylus are you using that works with this tablet? I have not found one that works.
Thanks!

Couple of little generics I had laying around but both had a metal mesh tip. The rubber tips didn't work for me on this one either.
Hi there, i am not too sure if i need to start a new topic, but i guess this is the best way to get your expertise on my issue.
I am driving a seat leon 1p (2008) which had the RNS510 (seat media system so whitout the sd card slot) built in. Sadly the display died (full white) and i had to search for something else.
I bought me a RK3188 device (it says ERISIN in the advert, i cannot find that name on the box or device itself) with a load of nice features. Most of them are working like they should, others have some hickups and 1 is really bothering me. I have made a youtube video and the seller says they don't see whats wrong. I bought it trough eunavi on aliexpress.
Here my explanation, the leon is fitted with a large dot matrix mfd screen in the dashboard (boardcomputer) (there are versions with a smaller display)
the big display is served with the windscreen wiper handle, which has 3 buttons, up, down, and ok/reset.
When i want to reset my computer (trip, avg fuel etc.) i need to press the reset button about 3 seconds. the radio then decides to shutdown... once i release the reset button, the radio decides it doesnt want to shutdown.
Quite weird in my opinion. So i tried programming the wheelkey settings, according to the manual. first i go into wheelkey settings, then i press clear / reset.. then i need to press any wheelkey (so allso the volume up / down, next, previous etc etc.) the radio does respond to that, but not with the wheelkey settings programme. I'll try to add the youtube link here as well.
next to this, some weird things happen.
1.The display is way too bright, so i asked the seller what to do, they told me they will send a new display which i should fit myself. In my opinion not the best solution from a shop but i understand their marigins aren't enormous and they try to fix it cheap. the display hasn't arrived yet so i can't say if the new display gives the solution for me.
2. when i have the tuner on, with af-rds function, it seems to scan to any rds station once the signal gets weak. Maybe i'm spoiled, but i think AF needs to search for the station with the same ID as the one i was tuned in to.
3. the dab+ dongle and window antenna give poor reception now. this is presumeably caused by the way i fitted the aerial, on top of the ventilation shafts behind the dashboard. I want to move the antenna to behind the rear view mirror (horizontally) which will hopefully give good reception. (does anyone know if horizontal positioning of the antenna is okay for dab+ ?)
<- the issue with the MFD input
<- the whiteness of the display (cannot be edited with standard settings) it was quite cold when i made this video, it seems it is a little better now or i am getting used to it
so quite a long story and i have my fingers crossed on your response !
maybe good to let you know:

Got my p10+ yesterday and spent some time setting it up, I was pleasantly surprised at how little bloatware there is on the phone (UK on contract)
The default setting of all apps on the home screen is poor though, it's like they're trying to emulate the iPhone. I don't know about anyone else but I like Android partly 'because' it doesn't look like an iPhone. Just as well it's an easy feature to turn off.
The multifunction action button takes a bit of getting used to as well, atmo I keep looking for the hardware buttons either side of it but it's getting easier.

Jesus, your saying the home screen looks like i phone? Just check out the settings page. The phone came full of crappy bloat. I'm in the UK to. Why can't it just be like the nexus or pixel range. My Pixel XL also feels well more responsive compared to the p10 plus. I feel there is a delay/lag when using the UI.
lol the way they stick all the icons on the home screen is very iPhone (I have to use one of them for work and I hate it).
I deleted a few apps, like the facebook/twitter/instagram stuff that I prefer to use the browser for because I don't need a notification pushed to me every time somebody posts on any of them. I also got rid of some of the Huawei stuff but it only took ten minutes of checking things out and deciding I didn't want them. It may be that Three didn't want as much as some other providers on the phone, I don't know.
Re lag, I've not noticed any, the phone seems more responsive (so it should) than my Oneplus2. I'll miss not being able to change the led notification colour and I want to use a different launcher but can't get it to stick. NFC is good, battery seems very good so far and the camera of course is great.
Nova launcher is definitely the way to go with emui. Solves the majority of issues for me with regards to look and feel.
I prefer ADW myself but it looks like I might have to upgrade to v2
I couldn't get Nova Launcher to work for me. It installed alright, but it wouldn't stay up. What steps did you take?
Go into Settings, then Apps, the hit the Settings tab at the bottom, then Default App Settings and then Launcher to choose which one to use.
Thankfully you only have to do it once...
Hey Folks
Has there been an OTA for the UK yet... Ive just unboxed my P10+.. and its on B120 (March 2017) but theres no OTA or anything on HiSuite.
So whats the C432 B130 EU rom i keep seeing online
Any Advice
Hello everyone!
I'm really new to these android audio units and I am cautious on selecting one. What I am looking for is a stable unit with around 10 sec boot time and quick response for reverse camera with a budget of 150-170USD. I would prefer 7'' capacitive touch screen and without any dvd/cd slot. Any suggestions on what to look for highly appreciated!
Thanks
Konstantinos
