Hi, I bought my 4X last couple of days.
Im very happy, but now I have one question about display.
I was surfing on the internet and I noticed that on top of the display, there is slightly brown or yellowish tint
Its visible on white or light grey background.
I noticed it isnt on LCD panel becasue when I look closer or in another angle the effect like disappeared.
It looks like sea-bow effect or glass reflection on gorilla glass or something similar but only with yellowish tint.
I red in reviews that the display is in some distance from glass, maybe there is slightly color distortion between glass and display?
My build is 1.1
Did you notice something similar on your 4X? Is it normal? Maybe Im too sensitive?
Thanks in advance.
So, I try to look at the display with white background in the dark room and I can definitely notice sea-bow or reflection on the glass. Its changing the position when I change the angles during the view on display. Anyone notice this? Would be very appreciated.
Yes, i seen to. But it's a very light effect. Is not a problem for me. If you don't advertise this to me I would not seen it.
Anyone other noticed this issue? Thanks.

To be honest, no. I tried to do in your way, I'm not blind, but I simply don't see nothing abnormal in mine Optimus 4X HD.
I have this problem too, and my Optimus 4x is 3 months old. Maybe it is cause by the overheat problem? Since the phone heat up mostly at the top part when playing games or browsing.
It could be that when the phone heats up, the glue melts and the screen gets "dirty" or its because of screen bleeding or because of pixels getting damaged because of the heat.
I also do notice it. Try to look at the phone at a very steep angle, I see that my screen has a blue tint on the bottom and a weird other tint on the upper side. I bought my phone on march 2013 Only noticable on white backgrounds.
I often see color uniformity issues on amoled panels especially on whites or in greys. For those who have a keen eye and know how to check, how is your screen uniformity? Post some pics on what image you tested it with.
I've had 2, I'm a printer( so see everything?) and have noticed the screen to have the top edge red and bottom green, sent one back but the new one had the same thing. Any one else notice it? Or maybe I should get some 3D GLASSES ?
Its a very common quality control issue on AMOLEDs even on the latest Note 7 it is still an issue, Aside from the Galaxy S1, I have yet to see a uniform AMOLED panel especially in whites and greys.
Ok. Is anyone facing screen issue on your P20 Pro? There seems to be a gradient colour shift which is very obvious in a dark room when the brightness is set to low. Plus it has a green hue to it. Have a look at the picture attached. Thank you.

Can't say I've noticed it, will take a look tonight.
Yikes!
I haven't noticed either but I'll also take a look tonight.
Either way i would say swap it out because that is nasty.

This is Moon Reader+ and the brightness (which can be adjusted from the app itself) is set at 0 and -25.

Ok going by the screenshots is moon+ reader
I tried it for myself and with brightness turned down to zero on phone and in the app i can also see a very slight hue.
But to be honest, i am much more comfortable reading with some background light so i can at least distinguish something of my environment , and then this is a non issue.
For completeness i took a screenshot with my camera , and it's way worse then what i could see with the naked eye.
With the naked eye it is noticable , but not so bad as the camera makes to believe.
Anyway , a non issue for me.
And since my and your screenshot are suffering from the same hue shift , it might even be a problem with the moon+ reader.....

Thank you very much for following up. It happens in the gallery too. I've tried it with different pictures that have solid colours such blue, red, green, grey, etc. Do you think the warranty covers intentionally? I bought the phone with full of excitement while I was in Singapore for a holiday. I love this phone so much but the screen is bothering me. Sigh!

I'm pretty sure its not covered , the screen works flawless under normal conditions even in the the dark. Only when i go to extreme's like setting negative brightness levels in software the problem really shows up.
I will never have this problem unless i actively go and look for it.
same for me. the vertical and horizontal lines are not really an issue for me, i though i can live with it: i had the same on my p9 plus but on the left, there is a 2cm zone on all the height really darker and it made it almost unreadable at night (lowest light), even with screen filter or not.
i returned my phone and now i must wait to order a new one... my provider tell me they will not have twilight anymore.
i'm very disapointed.
Amoled screens are always a lottery when it comes to uniformity. Sometimes you have luck other times not. There are good screens out there and this time around I got one of the better ones. I have seen others complain about screen issues so not all screens are good like with most phones that have Amoled. Below is mine at 0% brightness and the app you used.
Mine has the issue as well. I ll be getting my device replaced soon as it also has a slight gap between frame and back panel at top left edge
Same issue here. First P20 Pro had it from bottom to top (pinky purple at the bottom, yellowy green at the top), second one has it left to right, but more pronounced on the bottom of the screen.
Is it worth replacing it again? I'm not happy with paying a significant amount per month for this if the screen is bad on all of them.
I would like to check mine. What is the best way to check this?
Update: So i opened lcd test app on my p20 pro and here's how mine looked like in the dark.
I don't know if i did it right but tell me if i need todo anything more to check this propertly.
Oh ffs, my third one has it too. Significantly green in the top left running about half way down the phone.
I've now been to the store 3 times, it's a 96 mile round trip! Nearly 300 miles of fuel wasted on this rubbish.
I get "it's a chinese phone," but we're paying Samsung prices for it, these screen issues are just unacceptable!
Have p20 pro for 2 weeks now. Always thought it's some dark theme design before found this topic. Have top much brighter than bottom in low light conditions. Can't see in bright room or in dark room with brightness more than 50%. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't so annoying while I watching YouTube before go to sleep. Half of the screen grey, another near to black.

99% oled screens has this issue. Some are less visible, some more. But every oled screen phone I held had this issue.
Now I have Note 9 and dark grays are uneven too.

I have a Note 9 now too and while it's not perfect it's one of the most even oled screens I've had when it comes to uniformity.

Thats right its not that bad but its there. Still visible on dark gray background in dark room.
Can you take photo of your note 9 uniformity? I want to compare it with mine.
You can test it on this picture:

using the app oled tools i can see it quite badly on gren , grey and red .... with mine its at the top .... like the top section of pixels is acting differently .... im going to take mine back because its only 1 week old ... what is it with huawei and screens ... the mate 20 pro is facing big issues with their screens
Just got a new S20 FE, I have a Red or Magenta tint on sections of the screen when looking at an angle on the screen and straight directly looking at the screen. It is only clearly visible on a white screen, pretty noticeable when surfing websites, etc. Hard to capture in photos but I tried my best.
The tint will move as you move the screen, and quite bad at an extreme angle. I checked some FE display units in the Samsung store and they all have this issue, some are better than others though.
the XDA review has the same issue actually: https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s20-fe-review/
"The viewing angles, though, are disappointing because the display still features visible angular color shifting to blue as well as a rainbow out interference effect at extreme angles. Newer Samsung OLED panels have eliminated the rainbow out interference effect, and also reduced off-axis color shifting by a significant amount. The Galaxy S20+’s viewing angles, for example, are much better because the color shifting is much lower. Strangely, even the cheaper Galaxy M51 (review) doesn’t feature the interference effect issue (that is likely caused by the polarizer)."
Anyone else have this issue?
Thinking about asking for a replacement

A lot of phones have some sort of tint or rainbowing when viewed at some angle. I know the pixel 2xl had a very noticeable bluish tint on the whole screen when viewed at angle, but yeah you can still check and make sure.

I went and checked out a bunch of FEs at the Samsung Store and all of the phones have some of tinting viewable at angles but mine seems worse than most. Its showing some of the banding straight on, which is annoying. I might get a replacement.

In low or dark ambient light the screen seems to have a pinkish or red tint when viewing the panel to the side. I don't remember seeing this on the N20U. Anyone else?
Very common in phones in the past year. Either green or red tint in low light. My 8pro has a green tint at low light levels and there's many reports from many makes and models of phones of this.
So probably normal. Just didn't seem to be a bright or white as the Note 20U.

Im not sure it's "normal" more that there's something going on with the latest Samsung panels. Is the N20U 120hz? I think it's something to do with the refresh rates because OLED TVs suffer from "raised blacks" at 120hz. I think high refresh rates mess up gamma levels in OLED.
Yes the Note was 120 but not qhd
Do you have a screen protector installed? it could make this tints worse, also don't forget this issue is only with "cheaper" displays, i don't think Samsung uses that kind of "cheaper" displays in flagships!
I did remove the factory protector and it did seem to make the panel slightly brighter. The pink only shows up in low ambient light with the screen at100% and really only then if viewing it at an angle. It's slight but haven't seen this on the Note 10, Note 20 or s20.
Are you using 120hz? On the note 20 ultra this cause slight colour shifts...
Yes 120 and qhd although not at the same time on the Note.
I don't see pink tint in my s21 ultra.
Exynos version
How does the white balance in a dark room with the screen cranked up seem? Warm or cool? It's not as bright as the Note so maybe that's what I'm picking up on.

This is the reason... Sadly every device with 120hz has either red or green tint issue :/
Well that is unfortunate then.
Yes to pink tint! Exynos
no pink for me USA model snapdragon
Same Pink tint problem. Exynos. Don’t need 100% brightness. Just at white screen and slightly tilt it. And pink tint appear.
Same as 13:20s in this video
So it sounds like it might be normal for these panels then and the 120 hz as mentioned above
I just turned the white balance one notch to cool and it seems to eliminate the pink and then into the advanced and then the red down a bit
