Note 8 Top Notification bar Error - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi
I bought a used Note 8 a few months back
Since last month, I cannot slide down the top notification bar with my fingers, but it works with the stylus.
Also, I have enabled slide down in the home, and it works.
But I can not slide down the notification bar when I'm in an app with my fingers, I use the stylus to drag down the notification bar.
What can be done?

Type *#0#* in phone dialer and do the touch test.
Open a draw app and draw a box by going along the edges of the screen and see if it responds to your finger.
BACKUP your phone and then try a factory reset.
If that fails most likely your screen is going bad.
You can use the fingerprint sensor to swipe down and up the notification panel. Settings/Advanced Features/ Motions and Gestures to find that option.

Swipe to screenshot does not work with Nova Launcher, annoying IR remote on lock scr

Can anyone confirm that motion sensors and motion guided commands do not work when you do NOT use Touch Wiz? I am using Nova Launcher and the hand swipe to screenshot does not work.
Also, I tested out the IR Remote control app which worked great but now even after i close the app, on my lock screen, the remote functions are still there.

It hasn't gone away since last night. I closed out, closed process etc, still just hangs around the lock screen. When i press the channel/volume buttons from the lock screen, the blue light shines showing that it is currently activated and on. I believe this is a possible bug. I'm worried it's draining my battery as well. Please help.
Bonus help: how do you change the background on the lock screen?

On the S4 there's a setting within the app where you can disable the lock screen and notification panel settings. You'd think that they should still be there on the S5. Open the app, go to the menu and check the settings there.

Yeah, that drove me nuts too when I first used the feature on my S4.....Hopefully getting the S5 and Gear Neo this weekend.
Swipe to screenshot works fine for me with Next Launcher 3D.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using xda app-developers app
i figure swipe to capture out, your hand had to actually glide ON the screen. This whole time I thought it was an air motion that the sensors on the front caught. it isn't that at all but based on the hand touching the actual glass. I guess this is what happens for first time Samsung users... mods feel free to delete this thread.
SOLVED! I had the same issue (swipe screen grab not working) and tried everything with my Galaxy S6 after I installed Marshmallow and also Nova launcher for first time. Not sure which one caused it... Anyway, after going through a million "fixes" that didn't work, this one finally did!
- Go to your phone dialer and dial: *#2663#
- That will bring up a developer menu. Once you're in the menu press the button titled "TSP FW Update (General)". Let it got through the update (just a few seconds) and viola!!! You're swipe screen grab or any other touch screen weirdness work perfectly again!
Thanks . Solved even S pen problem on screen capture

Just slide that area down and it will show.
It's just like one of the expansive notifications. If you slide your finger down the notification toggles area it show. And if you slide your finger up that area it should hide it.

It's not the case for me. Not working I've tried swiping in every direction. I do have Wanam installed with a couple of tweaks. Hopefully that's not the reason it's not working because I can't do without Wanam.
Hi all, I can help you !
GS5 user here, soon to be Note 4 - but I just tested this out on mine and got it to work.
To add/remove the brightness adjustment, drag the notification screen down, touch the upper right icon that looks like 4 boxes, touch the little pen icon to Edit your menu and check/uncheck the Brightness adjustment option.

That option does not exist on the Note 4. G5, yes, Note 4, no.

happened to me during the 1st day when I was playing around with everything, I do believe it happened when I hit the ultra powersaving mode option, then after disabling that feature, I think it came back after a restart,
I wish mine was gone!
I know this thread is long dead, but I had the same issue and found a solution. First, the slider had only disappeared when I was on manual brightness. As soon as I turned on manual from the notification panel, it disappeared. Here's the voodoo I found in desperation that got it to work.
With auto-brightness already on (and in the notification panel) Go to Settings>Display>Brightness and move the slider (do not click the uncheck). Drop the panel down, and it should now be there and you can check and uncheck without it disappearing. Some dumb glitch, and simply turning auto-brightness back on the settings panel would only bring it back until I switched off auto-brightness.

Nav bar setting?

Got my note 8 today. Im coming from an s8+ (ive had pretty much all samsing main phones tho).
Well on the s8+ the bottom nav bar would auto hide when not in ise, but if i scroll a webpage it would pop back up.
My note 8 isnt doing this. I am guessing it was change, is there a way to make it work as the s8+ ?

There's, on the far left of the nav bar, a single dot. If you double tap that, it gives you the option to auto hide the bar.
Alternatively in the settings, choose Display then there's a heading for the Navigation Bar.

Yes i saw that but its not what i talkig about.
On my s8 the nav bar would auto hide then when i touch the screen it would pop up.
I.e.
If i was in the browser it wouldnt be there. Then when if i scroll the webpage up or down just a little the nav bar will pop up.
With the note 8 edge its either always there or not (unless i swipe up from the bottom)
I cant remember it is was a setting of it i did it with the adb commans.

There was recent update on my S8+ that changed the behaviour of the navigation bar. One change was a double tap to toggle on or off (which I now find annoying). However I just checked on my S8+ and the bar will either be 'always visible', or it will be 'always hidden' - appearing only when you slide up from the bottom, where it will hide again when you tap the screen (or after 4 seconds).
In other words it won't appear temporarily by tapping the screen.
I assume the Note 8 has this updated version.

See i never took any updates on the s8+.
And i did the full immersive mode mod on s8 plus, but then reverted it back. Maybe that created what i had on my s8. Ill try it on my note and see what happens.
Nevermind, redundant answer

Remove white bar when typing?

So recently upgraded to Android 10, and have this white bar at the bottom of the screen when typing in any text box. Any idea how to disable or remove it?

You have Full Gestures turned on, right? Turn off the switch 'Show button to hide keyboard' in Navigation Bar.
Ahhhh, can't believe they've implemented this!! My android seems super clean now, and it didn't take 2109 apps and attempts to do this!
- Enabled swipe gestures without the indication where to swipe
- disables the "show button to hide keyboard" (they should call it something else - "remove white bar" or something haha

Navigation bar won't slide away /dissappear anymore

Hi all, my navigation bar used to slide away out of sight so you can view video in full screen but all of a sudden its now permanently there. I've made sure display mode has the app as 'full screen enabled' but no joy. I know I can go to gestures but I really don't want too. Any ideas? Cheers Steve
