Hello all,
I am using my device (MI A2) as my daily driver, I love flashing ROMs, trying new ROMs & mods, etc.
But recently I joined a company that requires me to connect to their network through VPN & for authenticating we are required to enter a code from an MFA app (FortiToken) kind of like Google Authenticator & Microsoft Authenticator.
Now every time I flash a ROM I will have to ask my IT Support for pairing code. Is there a way I can take a backup of FortiToken & Microsoft Authenticator.
Thanks
You can create adb backups of app data (helium app sync and backup), or use titanium backup (root required)

Hello!
I tend to play around with different ROMs and sometimes I have to wipe. There are many backup applications out there (MyBackup Pro, Backup for root users, Astro). But they all backup just the application and not the settings and the data. For instance, if you use the email application K9, after wiping you have to enter all your email accounts again.
In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511835, there is a description how to manually backup the data and settings of 3rd party applications. But it is a manual procedure using ADB. Is there an application to do this in a more convenient way? Or is there a backup application that also backups the data and settings?
Cheers!
Backup for root users backups also data.. You have to chose Data backup, that is different from apk backup

Tried IE7 and FF3.1... unable to find a download shortcut/link for the Backup program on your site...
@Al Edson: You can find Backup for Root Users on the web at
http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.bg.smsbk and if you go to the Market just do a search for Backup for Root and it will popup.
@blackgin: Thank you for your quick answer and specially a BIG thank you for Backup for Root Users. I have to confess that the app is so powerful that I had problems understanding all the functions
I checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=527997 about surviving a data wipe but I still struggled with the many options. Is there a kind of help for the app? If not, I could contribute some text for you to check and use it as you wish.
Cheers!
Hi,
This is probably a n00b question but I am going to ask anyway.
I want to do the following:
First time I install new Custom Rom I register with a google account and download apps from market. So after downloading some 60 apps I want to unregister my google account and remove my default account. The only way I can remove my default account is by doing a wipe.
So Is there a way I can extract the APKs of all the 60 apps I have installed and then Do a wipe and then install the apks again to regain my 60 apps but no google default account ?
Thanks
Backup / Restore n00b
if youre rooted you can try titanium back up or else I would recommend mybackup pro (theres a trial version) it will back up apks and data (sms/contacts/email etc)
app Manager for the apk. can also select and simultanious Installations (there are also many others, see above).
sms backup & restore. awesome app for sms Backup to SD card or Your Mailacount without using gmail sync. everything is free. there is also a call log app and apn backup app from the same developer!
cheers

I like AndroidCommander
AppBrain will do this too.
You can pull the '.apk's using the "adb pull" command and then push them back afterwards.
Or if you're on a custom ROM you can use apps2sd to store the apps on your sdcard then they will be reimported after you install your new ROM after wipe. This may depend on which ROM your using though, not sure.
Since the topics exist for other phones and are a bit dated - I figured I'd ask you guys - what's the best/easiest way to backup user data before wiping and flashing a new kernel-base ROM? For example, not only would I like my game progress saved/moved, but my SMS, Call log, contacts (including the 'merged' data if possible), homescreen widgets, preferences?
I have TWRP, root, and Titanium Backup Pro - but I always seem to forget something and end up either starting over, losing the data, or trying to pull it out of a backup file.

I use to use Mybackup Pro from play store. It is a paid app but it does a good job. I can't use its full capabilities at the moment because it requires root access.

For homescreen widgets, preferences etc, you need make a nandroid backup and do a restore DATA after the flash of rom, but you can have issue
For sms i use the backup of sms app and the same for the contacs or google
To install the last Darklord rooted ROM you have to wipe everything.
To restore all the App (Viber conversation) and settings (Wifi pwd, email account, contacts. SMS...) is sufficient the Backup done with PC Companion or I have to do a Backup with a specific program?
Thanks

You can try with native Backup & Restore app from Sony.

First of all, if you have a Google account, your Wi-Fi, contacts, and some other settings are already backed up to the cloud and will be restored automatically. SMS and app settings are different.
PC Companion backups are weird. I tried them a while ago - couldn't figure out how to restore. If you're so worried about particular apps, do a dirty install (wipe only /cache and Dalvik cache), then backup your SMS and all apps that you'd like using the new version of Sony's Backup & Restore app in 4.3. Then reboot back into recovery, wipe /data, /cache, and Dalvik cache, then install the ROM, then boot and do the basic setup. Once Android is finished restoring everything it could automatically, restore the backup from the Backup & Restore app. Just note that if you receive any SMSes before completing the restore, you'll lose them. Thus, it's best to put the phone into Airplane Mode and connect to Wi-Fi in order to complete the restoration.

I don't know about PC Companion, but I use Titanium Backup to backup/restore all apps, as well as bluetooth pairings, saved WiFi connections, user dictionaries, etc. It also backs up contacts, sms, system settings, etc., but I rather use Super SMS Backup and Restore for handling SMS and Call Logs, Google Account for handing contacts, and hardly ever restore system settings, which I don't recommend unless you're updating to the same OS version, otherwise you might get errors.
I've been doing this for the past 4 years, and have the exact same data with me that has gone through 3 different phones, so I know it's 100% reliable.
I tried TiataniumBackup, but it doesn't work because my phone is not rooted.
Unfortunately I alreday did the update when Sony asked for it before discovering that is not possible to root 4.3.
Try helium
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
I believe it uses the adb backup method and doesn't need root
I will give a try to Helium
Thanks
Helium doesn't work, because it want the phone set to PTP, but when I connect it to the computer it suddenly automatically change to MTP.
I use a Mac
Any suggestion?
Thanks
Say I want to ...
try out various images, e.g. CM or RessurrecionRemix
try out different .ZIP updates to them, e.g. various options of TK GApps
experiment with self written rules for TK's "Universal Application Remover"
Obviously this mean that I'll wiping my partitions all the time. And all settings will be lost. But then I'd would have to re-enter and re-enter things like my WLAN passphrase, or my google account.
Q: Is there a thread somewhere that explains how to save important things and provide them in a .ZIP file for TWRP?
Hi, Do you ever use Titanium Backup? Even if you feel the need to fully format your device, you can move your backed up apps as well as all your account login data, + WiFi/Bluetooth pairings onto your computer, a private server, the Cloud... You can create a recovery flashable zip of the Titanium BU app and easily transfer/restore your backups onto your device, restore everything without being logged into your Google account, reboot, profit! (= Shreds set up time, automates the dreaded part of having to set up over & over again.
I should mention all of your accounts login data is considered system-side and is the only system data from a previous ROM that is safe to restore. Do not restore system apps, e.g. a gapps included app.
Once you restore your apps+data, Accounts, WiFi configs, BT pairings, APNS (if you like), reboot your device and you're ready to roll. Check Settings -> Accounts and you'll find you can save a lot of time whenever you want to test a new or different ROM.
