Hello,
Is it possible to have internet connection (mobile network) without enabling sms and voice call?
I know then it's not really a mobile phone anymore, but I never use them; I only go on internet, download apps, watch youtube videos etc.
I wanna turn off sms, mms, voice call etc. because I think that saves my battery a bit more.
Is it possible? If it is, how?
Thanks

Hello, what do you mean with pointless?
Is it pointless to post in this section?

thanks
You could try disabling the phone settings disable sms and voice call details in mobile network settings .
Other than that ask your network can they send you a sim that does not work on the phone .

Best way is to ask your SP for data only SIM card perhaps.
I have been a proud owner of Xperia Z for over a month now. I switched from iPhone 4s to XZ and the experience has been splendid! During this time, I have noticed these problems-
1. When call ends, the dialer makes a very loud beep sound. I love the dialer but this beep sound is a major irritation esp. if call ends before I can pull phone away from my ears which happens more often than I can stand such a loud deep!
2. For unknown reason my XZ keeps losing Data connectivity in between. I have seen this happen when Wifi is on, which I thought could be due to "wifi policy" but when I am outside with no wifi, I keep losing the Data. The network connection is good. It's just the data. Only way to get it back is - turn on airplane mode - lock phone - unlock phone - turn off air plane mode.
I have researched XDA forums but no resolution on above problems yet. Please share your findings. :fingers-crossed:
No responses I looked at threads for network data connection issues but none have reported problem like mine. The tones when phone connects and disconnects a call are the most difficult to work with :silly:

Try using the dual mode with cdma preferred option, trust me nothing wrong with the device just change ur network operator.....
Do you know what steps I can take to remove loud beep sound if I get rooted? I had tried but no luck.

This same SIM and network stayed connected on my iPhone 4s. I never had this problem with iPhone 4s. On the other hand, the first time I take my XZ on ride while using GPS and it losses connection right in middle transit which is in main city. The constant dropping of 3g connection makes it completely unreliable.

The call-ended beep doesn't always sound when I close a call, in my case. What's the cause? I have root, as always.
any idea how to get rid of this beep

So here’s a thread that focuses on the Internet Calling features of the device. I hope people will use this to share their experiences and give this feature more exposure! So how is it working for you?
I used Internet Calling with the Galaxy Nexus and now do this on the N5. The apartment where I lived—and, unfortunately, now my home—has poor cell reception and since T-Mobile doesn’t make it easy to support Wi-Fi Calling on these devices, I’ve resorted to the native Internet Calling/SIP support in Android. That said, some observations I’ve noticed since switching phones:
Overall audio quality appears to be better on the 5—audio is clearer and there appears to be less audio drops
Like the Galaxy Nexus, Internet Calling does not appear to support echo cancellation and I find the experience worse with the N5, particularly for those on the far side of my calls. I can help mitigate this by lowering the volume of the phone, but this is a balance between my ability to hear them and their ability to hear an echo.
Calls over LTE appear to be great—almost as good as the high-speed Comcast Wi-Fi I have at home. However, I was unable to make or receive calls successfully over T-Mobile’s LTE when the APN protocol was IPv6, which is the default—and changing this to IPv4 resolved the issue.
I am also aware of CSipSimple, and am currently piloting it on the legacy Galaxy Nexus, but, at this time, I want to give the native client a chance.
Cheers.
Reserved for possible future use
I also use CSipSimple for my work extension when I am not in the office to mask my cell phone. Has been working great! Sometimes I think the sound quality is better than cellular.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to using sip for internet calls. Could you guys help me get set up using the native client? Would I be able to make calls to anyone over WiFi or LTE? Thanks in advance.
I tried it on Nexus S and then Nexus 4, battery life sucked with incoming calls enabled, so I've given up on SIP for now :-/

I had the same issue with my Galaxy Nexus, but the Nexus 5 handles this far better.

First thing to do is get a Google Voice #.
Then, download Groove IP.

This is not actually using the Internet Calling feature of the phone or SIP. My first exposure to this was with the Galaxy Nexus and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583120&highlight=sip&page=12 is a great thread with relevant information.

Those of you using CSipSimple or the native dialer, I can't get the echo to be reasonable. Even when turning the volume down, it still persists.
This issue is well documented on google code for both csipsimple and android.. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41626
How are you guys getting around this?
So would this solution work if, say, I was in a bad T-Mo cell area but wifi was available? i.e. I could make calls over wifi, the way that T-Mo intended, except not with a Nexus?
Also, isn't GrooveIP about to be discontinued? is Talkatone a reliable alternative? I downloaded it the other day but haven't had a chance to mess around with it yet...

If you are looking for an SIP provider, there are many. I use callcentric and am pretty happy with them. Just put in your member # and pw on the native dialer and it registers right away. If you pony up a couple of bucks for a number, you can use it as one of your Google Voice numbers. They will even let you mask the number match your Google Voice number so it looks like you are calling from GV.
To answer your question, you can call on any data connection. I even get good clear calls even on edge.
FYI, if you do set it up with GV, make sure you are not calling through the GV app, it doesn't play nice with the SIP function.
Has anyone used text plus for voip? I've been using it and it has great voice over mobile data. Only bad part is some wifi networks don't respond well to it.

Yes, but the Wi-Fi and its Internet connection has to be of high quality as well (for example, this might not work well at a Starbucks).
Is there anyway to use my existing cell # over VoIP? I have no signal at work but good WiFi.

Can anyone create a step-by-step for this? I wouldn't want to use VoIP unless I'm in a crappy cell area with good wifi, i.e. most of the time I would not use this process.
TIA

i've used it to call both a land line and a cell. i haven't had any issues with it, i use it over wifi
be careful with wakelocks now. textplus now uses location if it can and will keep your phone 'awake' even when you minimize hte app and turn the screen off

If you use app ops and disable location reporting it will remove the wake lock. That's what i did to all programs requesting location reporting and location history. They eat up a crazy amount of battery trying to get your location.

they sure do. i have location reporting and location history turned off, with battery saver location mode on. it was just something i noticed after i left the app open(because people like to call others crazy around here for force closing apps). force closing the app helped though
Hi, I have been searching around for a while unable to find what I need to troubleshoot this issue I am having. I could just be looking in the wrong area.
I came to T Mobile from Verizon and had a note 4 on Verizon but traded that in for the Note 4 on T Mobile
I currently play Simpsons Tapped out on the phone and on Verizon it would load up quickly without issue but on T mobile version it will show the logo's then black screen after for a good 3 minutes or so before the game actually starts it's loading.
So the game works on Wifi like it should but has the issue on mobile data
I Tried speaking with T mobile and the game creators but have been unable to find a solution so I am in search of a program that can possibly show me where the app is hanging up at to determine if it's a T mobile data issue or if it's an issue with the game itself on a T Mobile phone.
So any sort of advice you could give me would be much appreciated.
Does this happen on wifi? Does it happen when wifi is turned off? I ask because I have a game that does what you describe, but it is somehow the result of being on my wifi at home. When I am using cellular data or other wifi, doesn't happen.

Ah I forgot to mention that, it works perfectly fine on Wifi and has the hang up on 4G Data
No one knows of any app for logging another apps activity?
Is anyone having signal issues with the axon pro? My phone keeps going in and out of signal, and while my status bar says that I have "no service" I will have full bars, but only when connected to WiFi. When not connected to WiFi, all the bars are lost.
Is anyone else experiencing these signal issues or bug of this sort? Just trying to determine the root of the problem.

When did you start having problems? After the latest update?
I think it is a problem with the Wifi calling feature. After trying wifi calling and having problems (the other person couldn't hear me), I decided to turn it off.
After turning it off I started having crazy issues - the wifi calling would turn on even though I had turned it off. After turning off wifi completely, data wouldn't work so I rebooted the phone. After rebooting the phone, I couldn't get a signal at all. I tried rebooting the phone multiple times but the signal wouldn't come back. I switched SIMs and it still wouldn't work. At this point I was thinking there was a hardware problem with the phone so I was considering calling ZTE to get a new one. But I tried one last thing - I turned wifi back on and made a wifi call - the signal came back! So it is a software problem.
So I turned on wifi calling again but configured for "cellular preferred". It seemed to work well for a while, but then a few days later went crazy notifying me every few seconds that wifi calling was turning on/turning off.
To keep the phone stable I have now unfortunately had to setup the phone with "Wifi Calling Preferred". Thankfully soon after I did this I started getting error "REG09: Missing 911 address" so it doesn't try to use wifi calling anymore.
No point calling ZTE support because their phone support is appallingly bad. They won't understand the issue, they won't give me a ticket number. All they will say is either "reset the phone" or try to send me a new phone which will just make me lose time and lose data. They had a website where you could raise tickets for a little while...but it looks like it has been blocked now as it could have been too useful .

Trying posting to their Twitter account and report the issue, that is how i got their attention. Also when you call them (here in the USA) tell them that you have already done a reset on your phone and that did not resolve the issue!!!

I got some signal issues too I only get 2 to 3 tower usually but at time its completely dead and until I reboot my phone signal doesn't Pop up ...and at times even though I have like 2 signal tower it shows emergency calls oly...I don't use WiFi calling as am on straight talk.but the WiFi calling feature suddenly pops up in the notification bar giving an error message u can't swipe that off the notification bar too u gotta go to MORE in settings and switch on and switch off the WiFi calling feature to remove the error msg from the notification bar .
Signal keeps fluctuating call clarity is a lil bit poor comparing it to my old lg g2 . macro focus doesn't work at all u can't focus a thing that's really close in auto. I dono what to do with this phone.it just doesn't satisfy the basic need of a phone voice calls and message(messages take a long time to send ).

Again, not worth my breath. If you check the new thread someone called up ZTE about the issue and they blamed it on T-Mobile (which is complete and utter BS). When I called about the camera issues they tried to blame it on Google. Why waste my time to be told lies? The support is completely s***.

Well hopefully ZTE will come out with a fix really soon, I don't think that they want to lose the users they have.......
Loss of at&t signal
In one location that I frequent I always sit there without a cellular signal while people around me are using their cell phones
LTE signal strength sporadic
My Pro shows a few bars for a couple seconds, then NO SIGNAL for a few seconds. ZTE is not fixing this problem? It has been going on since January. Now is September.
For those with this issue, does a factory reset change this behavior, or at least the frequency of it?
