Amazing clarity! Plus very loud too! The other side hears me really clearly too!
Man it's absolutely a beast with all networks.
Has anyone tried calls via a bluetooth headset? My girlfriend and I have such a hard time on the phone because the volume is extremely low. I already adjust settings in the sound settings with adaptive sound and it made it louder but it really only affected my music, not the loudness of my phone calls

this might sound funny, but i made my first ear-to-earpiece voice call yesterday on the Z3c, after having the phone for a couple of weeks. up to then, i've only used speakerphone for calls.
call quality is, frankly, BALLS. my gf sounded like a Transformer the other night. there's some awful digital treatment or filter or something. equalizer didn't seem to make much difference.
strange thing is: speakerphone sounds great, if a little softer than what i was accustomed to using. and the stereo speakers in general, for music, videos, etc. are great -- especially when you take into account the size of the phone and speakers.
so, i'm curious: what have you done in terms of settings to make non-speakerphone calls sound better?

Overall call quality on the device is excellent, I would even say its the equal of the s6 that it replaced. However, as someone that uses WiFi calling I do have to complain a bit here. Wifi calls come through fine but approximately 10 seconds in to the call my voice becomes choppy on the other end. I never have the issue on VoLTE so this is an issue with wifi calling not VOIP capabilities of the device. I do spend more time than average on the phone which is typically for me around 3 hours a day roughly sometimes as much as 5.
Quality is excellent for me, coming from an lg g3, i can say that the call quality is better, clear, crisp and louder than in g3.
Call quality is good on my end. I'm not sure about call quality on the other end since I've never asked but no one has complained about not being able to understand me so I guess it must be good enough.
i think it depends on counrty to country or cellular providers.
It is horrible. I came from AT&T using a Samsung Galaxy S4. Half my calls are so gargled that I cannot hear anyone, and they do not ring on the phone until my computer has rang for half of the set rings before it goes to voicemail. I am supremely disappointed with this phone and the Fi service. I am about to sell it for whatever I can get and go back to AT&T or try Verizon. This is not to mention all of the delayed and duplicate text messages.
Note: they are better when I turn off WiFi completely, so that the 5X is forced to use a cellular network over WiFi calling, but the quality is still worse than AT&T. I have more or less experienced the same poor call quality on all WiFi networks.
The call quality on this phone is terrible. I can't say whether it is just the phone or Google Fi's service, because I got them both at the same time. What I can say is that this phone is about to get sold due to how bad it is.
This phones weakest point is call quality. The speakerphone echos for the person on the line, and the mic is poor at maintaining the sound of my own voice. Callers frequently tell me my voice drops out like I'm talking from across the room.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
I am also facing call quality issue. When i put the phone in speaker mode and talk, the other person can hear echo. Also the call quality is not that clear. Want to change the phone just because of this reason. Even if you have android what if basic Phone functionality is not working properly.
call quality suck the big one on this phone. it sounds like there is something rattling in the speaker half the time, tinny, and I always have issue hearing what some people say and they me.
Never was an issue on any of my htc phones. I guess Google dropped the ball as approving this phone for quality control
Aside from that I rarely talk on the phone so i dont have to deal with it too much fortunately.
Love the speakerphone use it for business calls all the time

And please, make your comments how others can hear you with and without loudspeaker "on".
I just used this phone for the first time on calls of any length. Thanksgiving and all that. I actually said, out loud, a couple of times, "Wow! This is the best phone I've used in a long time!" Those other phones would be iPhone 6, Moto X 2014, Moto X, and Galaxy Nexus
No problem making calls with phone itself or headset putting on.
Callers could not hear me until third redial or reboot. Factory reset did not work. Verizon replaced the phone about five days ago.
Same issue on intermittent basis. My suspicion is that being constantly on wifi due to weak data signal both at home and in the office has something to do with it. Calls via bluetooth in car work perfectly.
Having said that, never had those problems on previous phone ( SG Note 2). Same provider and location.
I get service in places in my house I didnt get with my lg optimus l90
Best phone I've ever had. Calls are crystal clear over mobile network or WiFi.
Excellent.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this phone, but my experience with call quality is horrendous. Wifi calling? Constant dropped calls, breaks up, people can't hear me. Full LTE bars? Constant dropped calls, breaks up, people can't hear me. My biggest disappointment with the phone is the call quality, its probably the worst in any phone I've ever had, and I was really hoping the new TruSignal tech by Qualcomm was going to make it exceptional, buts horrid.
When I'm calling with other phones (not all of them) I can hear quite a robotic sound in my front speak, but that's just a problem of the other person i guess. Otherwise it has pretty good "calling powers".
Best phone i've used for making call :good:
I mean it's a $600 phone
Phone is not usable if trying to place a call with Wifi Calling. I can hear the caller but the caller cannot understand what I'm saying. I don't know what else to try since I rely on Wifi Calling since I work in the basement of a hospital.

i also notice a Mic Problem in mine too, the Second part often say "huh" what " so then i speak aloud for them.
I haven't tested it yet, but the following tweaks might help.
You need to have root in oder to edit build.prop and change values to:
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=none
persist.audio.fluence.voicerec=true
persist.audo.fluence.speaker =false
use.voice.path.for.pcm.voip=true
I've found these in the Magisk Module "Android Mic Fix" and on a different phone similar changes help with the call quality.
As I said, I haven't tested those, but I will soon.

Which settings do you use? I have Viper FX but don't notice any improvement in call quality.

Installed Viper 4. Lot of improvement.
1/3 of the calls I'm on the person on the other end complains that I'm 'garbled' sounding. I can hear them (although not as loud as I would like). The signal doesn't matter, I can have full signal. This happens with the earpiece, bluetooth headsets, headphones with mic, and speakerphone. Using Rogers SIM in Canada and AT&T SIM in USA. Current OTA updates MIUI 10.2.1.0 PEDMIXM + Pie, also happened to the previous version, Chinese hardware with global rom.
Amazing piece of technology that doesn't work as a phone. First Xiaomi device that I'm really disappointed with. Might have to go back to my Mi Max 1.
