Redmi 8 Rollback protected or not? - Xiaomi Redmi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I ask if the last build of redmi 8 (android 10) 11.0.1.0, is Rollback protected or not?

Connect your phone in fastboot mode and run "fastboot getvar anti", for me it always returned "anti: ", empty, meaning no rollback protection.
I tried it when i was on both 11.0.7.0 and 11.0.1.0 (EEA 4/64).
The Android 10 11.0.1.0 update was pretty buggy and TWRP didn't work with it so I downgraded to 11.0.7.0 Android 9 via MiFlash with an unlocked bootloader without issues, there was a scare though, after ~300 seconds it throws up an error: Not catch checkpoint but the phone booted up fine, it appears that this happens when you just flash without re-locking the bootloader.

Thanks for confirmation, because after entering "fastboot getvar anti" it write nothing after anti:
Then i have a question please,
Can i flash global firmware MI replacing global IN ?
And what is the problems i faced if i do this.
Thank you. :good:

I also wasn't sure what "anti: " means but found a forum post claiming this indicates no rollback protection so I took the risk.
Didn't try flashing different official roms but people do it, so it should work but why not flash a xiaomi.eu rom or MiuiMix just to be safe? Currently running debloated MiuiMix with LOLZ and it's really good compared stock EEA rom.

Hello, can I downgrade even on global stock 11.0.2.0 QCNMIXM to global stock 11.0.7.0 PCNMIXM with unlocked bootloader and no custom recovery (many people say that TWRP doesn't work with android 10)

NOT REALLY, I have read that there is bootloop issue after you flash magisk but TWRP works. NOT CONFIRMED.

Again, check if "fastboot getvar anti" still returns empty, "anti: ", if so, it should be safe to downgrade.
About TWRP, I didn't try it because this method isn't very useful if you plan to use TWRP more than once with maintaining your data but you might be able to flash something if you format data, make sure to format data, DON'T wipe it, but it'll require you to format data before every flash since TWRP can't decrypt and it's not guaranteed to work in the first place.
And don't try to downgrade from Android 9 to 10 through TWRP, you should use MiFlash to flash a full fastboot ROM, make sure to select "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock" to keep the bootloader unlocked just in case.
Try to do it on a laptop if possible, if your PC looses power mid-flash your phone might brick.

Hello! Xiaomi is really against people flashing global on chinese phones - that's why this happened.
Flash twrp to recovery via adb (search up on youtube its easy)
and flash a custom rom - they're better than miui anyway
Also if you use miflash tool in the future DO NOT click lock bootloader because it might brick your device which is a headache.

No you can't if your bootloader is locked.
I think you should talk to xiaomi about this issue directly and ask them whats the best thing to do.
The thing I can think of is to try and flash a chinese rom and get it to work - after that you can apply for unlocking your bootloader again
with the mi unlock tool (you'd have to wait 15 days though - xiaomi has ****ty policy on unlocking BL.
I install china rom, but its not work - miflash: erase boot error. On MI PCSuite China version app downloads global rom files, china files its not works, bad veryfication.
there are already some threads with some possible solutions, but if on the first run when you used the miflash tool and DID NOT UNCLICK lock bootloader than it looks like you fkkd up.
What is fkkd? In mi flash i checked clear and loock and did not work. Erase boot error.

K20 Pro Fastboot Rom Update

So.... I was rooting my k20 pro few days ago but TWRP recovery wasn't flashing, it doesn't go to recovery mode after command boot command and shows success on PC. I was able to switch on my device and can still see stock recovery there. Someone told me to flash vbmeta.IMG and when I flashed (after flashing TWRP recovery), screen gone blank and phone was stuck on fastboot mode. So I flashed fastboot rom and that was Mi9T Pro global 11.0.4.0, there was no download links of K20 Pro Fastboot rom. Now it's draining battery so fast, heating and slow on screen recording on games. Now I've downloaded K20 Pro global fastboot rom (India) and can I flash it now just putting my phone on fastboot mode? And it's miui 11.0.4.0 global and can I flash miui 11.0.6.0 global (India)?
Sorry for bad English and long post
Thank-you

You can get all the fastboot ROMs from here.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/supported/miui/
Search for raphael if you have a Chinese phone.
Search for raphaelin if you have an Indian phone.
MIUI will automatically restore stock recovery, flashing Magisk will stop this happening.
After flashing TWRP in fastboot you need to boot directly into TWRP.
Still in fastboot type
Code:
fastboot reboot
When the phone turns off, quickly press and hold volume up until it boots into TWRP.
Now you can install Magisk, which will prevent stock recovery being restored.

Download the latest India fastboot ROM from here
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/raphaelin/
Use this guide to flash the ROM
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
You need to view this page in desktop mode, if viewing on a mobile.
In step 5 of the guide, make sure you change the flash option to 'clean all' before hitting the flash button. If you don't change this, you will lock the bootloader.
After flashing, boot into MIUI at least once before flashing anything else.
Get the latest TWRP from here and flash it.

After flashing TWRP, use the steps in my earlier post to install Magisk.

Yes
Don't even try to flash old version of miui in fastboot mode
There is a way to break this system by flashing in twrp, but it's not guaranteed
For safety, don't install old miui if you love your device
unlock your bootloader and with twrp you can roll it back but before you need to wipe all the data from custom recovery
Yes.
But, actually all firmwares keep in same rollback version.
So you can have V12.0.6.0 installed and then flash older version, as V11.0.2.0. Or opposed.
If you are using V12.0.4.0 or lower, you can flash without EDL and authentication.
If you are using V12.0.5.0 or higher, you need EDL and authentication for flashing.
If you want to use sp flash tool, you need to flash the stock rom preloader using V12.0.4.0 (or lower). (It will works perfectly with lower preloader binary version).
With an older preloader version, your phone will can receive DA files and accept flashing with NO auth.
Everything you need to do is plug your phone in usb (without press any key, if you press any key it will enter in EDL mode and requests authenticaion).
Here, are PRELOADER binaries for flashing: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-10x-4g-xiaomi-redmi-note-9.4221081/
Here, are DA files for flashing using flash tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-10x-4g-xiaomi-redmi-note-9.4209767/
Only after it, you can use sp flash tool again.
Do you need help with your MERLIN device ?

I mean, I was able to downgrade from MIUI 12.5.4 (Android 11) back to 12.0.1 (Android 10) with no verification or anything like that. I didn't get any errors or render my device useless. Maybe, I was just lucky?

It's not a variable "anti." It's called "rollback_ver" or "rollback" on MediaTek devices. I was also confused about this.

Help - stuck in bootloop -redmi 9

Hey,
I need HELP.
I have Redmi 9. Unfortunately, I do not remember which ROM and which MIUI was installed. I think it was 12 GLOBAL.
I've tried to install TWRP and magisk, though something went wrong and I'm now in bootloop. I can get into fastboot but don't know how to continue from this position,
My thoughts that I've tried to install TWRP or magisk that don't fit to my phone.
Phone is unlocked.
unofficial twrp 3.4.2 Root Xiaomi Redmi 9 (Lancelot) claims to be a working TWRP and instructions for installing Magisk. (I don't have the phone, so I can't test it.)

well your best bet is to download the stock rom and flash it with sp flash tool using the brom bypass, only thing you have to know is which exact miui version you had, otherwise if you have an unlocked bootloader you don't have to worry that much as it will not harm your phone

Caveat: I bricked my device like many others after unlocking the bootloader and flashing xiaomi.eu ROM. I had to have a authorized EDL account holder flash a factory ROM (in my case I had a China variant flashed with the Global ROM), after which I flashed xiaomi.eu latest stable ROM and then rooted it.

And yes, I rooted my device this way although I took the "fastboot flash boot_ab" approach instead of the separate flashing of a and b.

I flashed it separately on the second attempt for 12.5.3. The first time I tried flashing the patched boot.img I was greeted with an error.
Hi! I have the latest xiaomi eu weekly installed (21.6.23) as well as unofficial twrp.
I would like to root the phone with magisk, but I don't understand a few things.
Magisk manager require patching the boot.img file from the zip firmware.
I can not just simply install magisk zip file in twrp to root mi11 ultra?
If not, I understand that I have to patch the boot.img- but do I have to do it every time I want to install update of the latest xiaomi.eu firmware?
The second question is about data.
Am I loosing the data by rooting the device by this method?
EDIT:
Ok, I managed. So those are the steps that I did:
I unpacked the boot.img from the xiaomi.eu firmware in my phone. Then I patched the file, and copy this file to the adb installation folder of my pc.
Later it's easy- usb debugging needs to be active in developer options, then connect your phone by the cable to your pc, accept usb debugging in your phone, start CMD in the adb folder in your pc and write the command:
fastboot flash boot_ab nameofthefilewhatmagiskgenerated.img
then
fastboot reboot
And done, root works. Data are untouched.
I did it easier, boot into twrp and flash magisk.zip done
Also I'm on official EEA firmware, with original stock recovery, so doesn't matter what rom you use. On xiaomi EU you don't even need adb because you already have twrp injected
Is there anything to worry about when you update the phone while having root access?
Is the following order right?
1) update Rom over twrp and delete dalvik&cache
2)flash magisk.zip again
3)boot into system
Right ?
I have the latest EU Rom 12.5.7...
Just take this bat with decrypted Star twrp 3.5.1
unzip and klick Install-Star.bat
fastboot boot star.img are the commands in there
