Removal of Gapps (question) - Samsung Galaxy A71 Questions & Answers

Forgive my ignorance, the past few days have been my first introduction to Android & I've been trying to figure this out.
Is it possible at this point to load a stock OS on this phone without Gapps installed?
Will I have to wait for an instance of TWRP to be developed for this phone to achieve that?
Thanks.
Edit:
Should I just return this phone while I can & get something else with a bigger community & official support for Lineage or Graphene? lol

what have you got at the moment ?

If you're only after AOSP then you should look for other phone. It doesn't look like we will get even debloated Samsung stock rom any time soon.
But it's still cool phone though.

Thank you very much, that's how it was seeming digging through here but I couldn't find an answer quite so straight forward.

Stock android?

I've tried searching the forums and such for information but stock android and aosp returns so many results that aren't relevant so I figured I'd just quickly ask here:
Is there a stock rom for the HTC one yet? Like just stock 4.2.2 android?
If not, are there plans for one or is there a limitation of some sort that would prevent it?
Thanks much.
There's stock roms for 4.1.2 but htc has not released 4.2.2 yet

Yeah I know. I'm not complaining - I was quite literally just wondering if I missed it somewhere.

An early alpha version is out if you are into that, although most of the stuff aren't working.
Thanks for the replies. I'm pining for my Nexus cause I miss my stock 4.2.2. I'll hold out a bit and wait for an AOSP rom. This phone is just too gorgeous.

[Q] Should I install Android 5

The net always talks about how to Install Android 5 but I wonder whether it would be a good idea to install it in the first place.
Will I get better performance and a better phone? What about app compatibility? I just want a phone with the least bugs and problems.
Thanks

I'd say yes. Try it and see for yourself so you get your own opinion and not only base on what other people say. You can always go back.
I did the upgrade 2 weeks ago. It's worth it. The only compatibility issue i had was with Dungeon Hunter 5. It stopped working but it was probably a good idea to get rid of it anyway. (More slot machine than anything). Other than that, I'm loving it.

Yes, you just need to flash a Kitkat file from here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
yes
least bug and problems, 4.4.4 is the winner.
I had 5.0 on other devices and it was a joy to come back to 4.4.4 and have a rock steady experience with insane battery life.
yes you can flash back, but like the UK version, I found no online files to do so. and I can make my own, but sod it. I know what 5.0 is and I wasnt impressed at all.
Updated yesterday, performance is the same if not better, battery is the same. You should try
I think I'll play it safe and give it some time to be sure before I update. I don't have the time or the knowledge to flash back to 4.4.4. Thanks everyone!

It's easy to flash back 4.4.4, however I updated yesterday and from my opinion it is not worth it at all, the interface is more complicated, there are bugs like a memory leak on startup which make it take age to load, xposed do not work well (I had a bootloop, had to reflash the system partition). I think I am going back to KK soon ?

[ROM][H811][6.0] Cyanogenmod 13 for LG G4

Hey guys! Just wanted to give you all a heads up that CM 13 is out.
LINK: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=h811
Anyone facing any issues while on the ROM?
Can I just flash it if I have cm12.1 already running.
Any other update of bootloader etc needed to get it work? Don't want to get stuck in boot logo etc.
Thanks

No, you'll need to kdz to stock M, ensure Enable OEM Bootloader unlock is checked, and then reboot into bootloader mode to 1) do OEM unlock and 2) boot into TWRP in order to permanently install TWRP. It's pretty simple. I think I spent a grand total of 10-15 minutes setting it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/development/stock-h811-20i-images-kdz-flashable-t3308227

Same as I posted above. If you're not yet on M, you'll need to flash the M KDZ (or OTA update to M, if you're still on stock), unlock bootloader and re-install TWRP to flash any M ROM.

Wow lol you just repeated the same question that was already answered literally above your post. Like you didn't even read. If your on any 5.1 ROM you have to flash the stock mm ota update first before flashing any mm ROM. After flashing the stock mm always make sure OEM unlock is enabled. Unlock your bootloader, flash twrp recovery.
How is the camera on CM? Is is there a hit to quality?

There is some wanky nature to the ffc when using Snapchat. But I prefer the CM camera to the stock camera.

As with any non-stock camera app, I'm sure there is a bit of a hit to quality, since they can't access LG's closed-source camera, but honestly, I can't tell a huge quality difference myself. The Snap camera used in CM (as well as Bliss, which I'm currently running with Llama Sweet Kernel with some tweaks - I highly recommend this kernel so far for CM or Bliss, or just about any other AOSP-ish ROM) has taken some big steps forward since CM was first available for the G4. (Full disclosure, some people have had issues with the flash going at the wrong time, causing over/underexposed pics, but I haven't seen it on mine. Others have also reported a bit of a hit to video (some lagginess) but I haven't taken any video yet to confirm or deny.)

Thank you very much for your reply. I suppose I'll stick with a stick ROM. Camera and video quality are very important to me. I take a lot of pictures and videos of my kids.

Honestly, and this is always my advice, I'd say go ahead and try it out. Just do a backup beforehand, and test out the camera first thing after flashing. If it's up to par, great! If not, 5 minutes later you're back to stock. Like I said, I haven't seen any of the issues a few others are reporting so far. Of course it's totally up to you. Just don't want you to deprive yourself of AOSP for something that may not effect you at all.

Hello. I when I click on download, it crashes. I get "unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." So far that is the only app behaving like that. Someone else can confirm this or is just me?. I even reset whole system and same issue.
TURBO
Been rocking it for a bit over a day. It runs beautifully. I've installed open gapps as well. The only issue I have is that video playback will seem to pause for a second while the audio continues, so it'll end up lagged by a second. This happens every time you pause a video too, so it'll become increasingly lagged the more you do it, leaving the audio and video totally de-synced.
Edit: Running the 02/14 nightly. Will update later and see if it gets resolved.
We already have a support thread for our devices at the G4 Int forum. All you need it to do was link that thread in our general discussion forum instead. No developers for CM13 will see this thread at all. Lol

Im thinking of trying this out and wondering if the video call will be lost. Its tmobiles version of facetime but its suppose to be working on g4 note 5 gs6 edge + etc. And it does with this lastest update so im wondering whats going on.
I forgot to mention hows battery life on the rom?

Will this phone get root and CM14.1 ?

Curious if LG G6 will eventually get root, and custom recovery to allow for Lineage 14.1 ROM ?
It will not.
Ouch that sucks I was hoping the G6 would eventually get root and then ROM's, like the G5 did. Oh well, not using this phone then

The boot loader is already unlocked so this phone will probably get root. CM is dead though so no chance of that. However it may get some custom roms.

He means LineageOS 14.1 which is not dead. Heck my old ass Samsung Galaxy Note Pro is running LineageOS 14.1 so never say never when it comes to LineageOS. My Note Pro was about to be recycled until LineageOS 14.1. It feels like a new tablet now. I would love it on my G6!!!

I still think the best bang for the buck phone out for 2017 is the LG G6, selling for like $499 now, and soon with Root and official CM14.1 ( Lineage ROM ), it's the phone to beat for the price. The G6 running official Cyanogen ROM for $499, I'm all over that. Will be a super cool phone. Plus it's IP68 waterproof, and has wireless charging, and is also very one handed friendly for a 5.7" device. This phone with AOSP ROM = nerds wetdream

Apparently the intl model's bootloader does not have all the fastboot commands stripped out like our tmo model :|
This makes theirs much easier to twrp/root.
So we just need a recovery and rom if we can unlock our bootloaders already ?
I saw this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634759622 looking around, I am not the dev of this nor have any part or take any credit on this. Yes, but there is no way to install twrp quite yet. To the best of my knowledge they devs basically have it, but they have to refine it an d make it user friendly so we aren't all bricking our phones

I've rooted every one of my phones since the OG Droid. Oddly enough, I'm really not missing root much for this phone- was originally hanging on the edge of my seat for it. As I've been living with it through the last few weeks, though, I don't think about it much. If it does get root, I'll probably do it- but this is the first time I think it won't matter that much. I'm really enjoying this phone (my first LG).
Cheers!
Steven.RN
Don't quote me but the official unlock is just like it was on g5. But boorloader unlock still works for g5 and g6 just not an "official" unlock
Really hoping that they do this soon. The phone was fantastic for the first couple of weeks then the anticipated happened, as has been my experience with all carrier ROMs. It starts to get sluggish, battery life gets crap (I was getting 6+hours SOT, now lucky to get 4), and phone is generally becoming slower.
Like many, I don't need crazy fancy ROMs, the G6 is surprisingly nice in stock format. Just want a clean, light, optimized ROM/kernel without all the TMobile crap they think people like.

Hi, if you are I would like to give it a try. Vodafone have given me a Pralx1 on contract. It certainly has lots of room for improvement as it has the usual bloated system install and isn't anywhere near as fast as it could be. It is slightly choppy through the menus compared to similar spec phones. How have you got round the problem of Huawei not releasing the code? Or have they released it recently?

Thanks for the reply VP. Well to be honest any improvements would be welcome. As I have the 16gb version and the current OS takes up 2/3rds of that space, which is insane. If its even partially debloated I will use what ever modified rom he throws my way. Fairly nice phone so will be keeping it and hoping for more custom roms to be released in the future if Huawei ever pulls there thumb out regarding there policies of sharing that is!
John
Debloating is easy if you have root, it's the optimisation that is a bit tricky. I've tried to use Kernel Aduitor to try and optimise it from there, but unfortunately I haven't found the best possible combination of settings yet.
How I wish we had RR, PA or Lineage ROMs, but I don't think that all the sources will be released.
In the meantime, Root and Viper4Android are there to satisfy me, though I hope we'll have Xposed for Nougat and a custom kernel in lieu of Custom ROMs..
