Android Auto has stopped working in Galaxy Note 3 - Android Auto General

Hello to everyone, I have a request, hope you can help me. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 equipped with Android version 5.0. I update regularly the Android Auto app, even if last updates of the last months have brought some minor issues, but nothing of so important. The car in which I use Android Auto is the last version of the Opel Astra, compatible with the software. A couple of days ago, after the latest update of Android Auto, a pop-up message on the in-car screen appeared, telling me that "this version of Android is obsolete and an update is needed". Ignoring this warning, the app worked perfectly fine, even better than previous versions, showing that (for example) the issue of the delay in voice recognition was solved. However I continued to use the app until today, when suddenly the app just stopped working, showing on the phone screen a message telling that "this phone doesn't support Android Auto". How could this be possible? Do you know anything about this situation? I tried to remove the app and install an older version, but with no success, in fact every old version that I tried just didn't complete the installation process. So I re-installed the latest version and at the first start of the app, on my phone, it seemed to work, even if there still was the pop-up message about the obsolescence of my operating system. If I close the app and re-open it again, the message "this phone doesn't support Android Auto" appears and the app stops working. Same thing if I try to connect the phone to my car: on the infotainment screen appears the message "searching for Android phone" and then the process ends. I found out that now the minimum required version of Android is 6. Is it possible to avoid an upgrade? Is there any chance to have again a working version of Android auto on my phone? Thanks in advance for your attention. Have a good day.

Is this the version you have installed (see the attached pic)? Try to go back one version at a time (sideload it from apkmirror) and pay attention to the architecture you download: it should be only armeabi-v7a.
After installation of one version, go to apps in settings, search the AA app and clear data and cache.
Do this after every new installation until you'll find the last working version for your phone.
Start here for downloading:

Thank you very much for your reply! To be honest, I've already tried to install some older version, even downloading different versions of the same release because I can't remember the type of cpu installed on my phone, but every time the installation process ended unsuccessfully, saying that app was not installed. Just in only one occasion one older version worked, don't remember which one, but at the start the message "this phone does not support Android auto appeared. I'll try again following your tips, but I suspect that some kind of registry key is now present in my system and that every installation of the app will be influenced by this. Do you think I should downgrade even the Google maps app? Even if the problem appears immediately at the start of Android auto. Finally, to answer your question, no, the version I was using until the problem was that one released at the end of August, then I tried older versions with no success and then the latest release of the 3rd of September. Everytime with same result.

Now you have the answer, armeabi-v7a. The reason for the error message saying that the app was not installed is probably due to not choosing the right architecture.

I don't think that there is such thing as registry keys in Android, but only cache and data.

I don't really understand the question. If AA is not working, this is not because of google maps app. I would suggest trying to use Waze instead of Maps, just to see if it changes something.

First of all, I understand that you usually download AA from Google Play store, yes? That is, AA is available in your country from the Play store. If yes, you should know that the Play store would not allow you downloading apps versions not compatible with your operating system. So, you should download again the AA from the store and clear the cache and data.
Second, it is a well known problem the fact that the cable may influence the connection between the phone and the car's infotainment system. From my experience, you should buy a good quality short cable (not more than 30 cm) in order to avoid connection problems.

Thanks again! So:
1) I downloaded a version of AA following your suggestions and I tried a release of June 2020 compatible with my cpu. It actually worked, I mean, the installation process completed successfully. I tried to clear cache and data, but both options weren't available, maybe because of fresh new installation, I don't know. Anyway, I started AA on my phone standalone and it worked, no pop-up message about the obsolescence of the operating system and no error message about the incompatibility between my phone and the app. When I connected to my car system, on the infotainment screen appeared a message "searching for Android phone", that disappeared after a couple of minutes, while on my phone screen appeared again "this phone does not support Android Auto". Strange thing is that if I start again the AA standalone it continues to work, but now seems that only when connection with the car is established that it doesn't work anymore;
2) ok, done before uninstalling the playstore version and installing the June 2020 release;
3) forget about it, infact I was just wondering if there is some kind of connection;
4) yes, I usually allow updates regularly released on the playstore. Infact this is a really strange thing, I don't understand how and why a non compatible version of an app could be downloaded. Anyway, until yesterday it worked for me, even if there was that pop-up message. If you visit the AA support site you will find that now the supported version is from Android 6, while until a couple of days ago it was Android 5 (infact my phone has installed Android 5.0). If I download again the latest version from the playstore, the first startup works fine, then if I close and re-open the app, the message "this phone does not support AA" appears. Cleaning the cache and data, at the new startup it works again, but closing and re-opening no, and so on. Don't know why and what to do. About the cable, I use this one since 2018 without any problem, is the original Samsung cable that came off the box when I bought the phone years ago... I'll try to change cable and see what happens, but it seems to me a software issue.

This isn't possible and that's why I think that if the actual AA version (September 2nd or 3rd) would not be compatible with you OS, then you wouldn't be able to download it. Have you checked in the AA app the real version that was installed?

Yes, I've seen, that's why I suggested you to go back one version at a time and test it. It might help, maybe, to do a phone restart after installing an old version.

Don't be sure about the software issue. You'll be amazed to find out how important is the cable for the reliability of the connection. A cable used for 2 years in a car who stays a lot of time in difficult climate conditions can make a difference.
I'm sorry, but I don't know what else to suggest, but only, maybe, that the time came to replace your old phone.

Thank you very much for your help, I appreciated a lot your support. I'll try other versions as you suggested, hoping that sooner or later I'll find one that works (if the problem is related to this) and I'll try a new cable, just to be sure. I know that my phone is almost 7 years old, but I love it, it would be very sad to change it. Do you think that installing a custom rom based on a modern Android release could solve the issue? Maybe another thing that I could try is to remove the AA phone association in my car, but I'm not sure that is possible to do.
Inviato dal mio SM-N9005 utilizzando Tapatalk

I really understand you, especially that I also owned a lot of Notes (2, 4, 8 and 10+), but you can't stand against progress. One day or another you will have to make the change. This is the android world, and it's similar to windows. As the operating system gets more complex, fast and more secure, so the hardware has to keep up with the software. This is different from the Apple concept.
To your question, I don't know if you can find a custom rom based on a newer android version, for your phone, and if it will help to solve your AA problem. I never tried to use a custom rom on my phones. But before you install a custom rom, you should check if AA is supported by the custom rom. You will also have to root the phone before installing the rom, I think. This is not an easy process, but I think you can find a lot of guides on xda.
Finally, I don't think there is something to remove from your infotainment system, because it is not keeping any AA related data of your phone. By the way, I forgot to ask, what about any update of your infotainment system firmware? Have you done any update of the firmware before the problem started?
Anyway, I insist to try to replace the cable with a new and shorter one. I would be happy to hear about, if and when you will solve the problem.
Wish you luck,
Danny

Hello Danny, thanks once again for your reply! You're perfectly right about progress, new systems and new features, I promote this progress and welcome it with great interest, even though this seems not to be the case, but is because I really love this phone, it has everything I need. Anyway, apart from personal thoughts, I believe that tomorrow morning I will try to use a new USB cable and I'll let you know. About firmware update on my car: no update has been made, I mean, not directly by me, I'm not sure if car infotainment system can receive updates like Ota (over the air, just like some phone manufacturers do with their products) or something like that, but I'm pretty sure that my car can't do that, simply because it hasn't an active internet connection (I suppose... Actually, the car navigation system can show some traffic updates on the map, just like Google maps do but in a simplified way, probably it uses traffic info broadcasted by radio stations by mean of some frequencies, just wondering...). However, an update for you: in the notification bar of my phone I received some suggestions by Google play store about some updates available... Guess what... There's an AA update, released on the 30th of July 2020 (so it isn't the latest one released on the 3rd of September 2020). If I open the description it says that the minimum operating system version required is Android 5.0. This is very strange, but probably this could be the very last version compatible with my phone and that can I actually download. Let's try and see what happens... I'll keep in touch.

Just to demonstrate how important is to have a good usb cable and what bad influences can have a too used one, take a look at the following thread:
Android Auto - Android 10 and a non compatible country

The following article is also relevant for you problem:

Hello Danny! Thanks for your updates! The second thread is very interesting! It maybe explains that the communication issues are related to a bad update and that other users are experiencing the same problem as me, even if it isn't specified. But, in misfortune, this could be a good news, it gives me hope that with the new update the situation could be solved. Let's cross fingers... About the cable: so, I tried another USB 3.0 cable, very thick cable, without any signs of time and usage, but the result is always the same. And about latest Android 5.0 compatible update, released on July 30, it works really bad: after installation process ends and after the configuration process ends, the pop-up message about obsolescence of the operating system appears and at a second start of the app still the message "this phone does not support Android auto" appears. So with the actual situation there's no hope. At the moment I'm using in car navigation system, every time I connect the phone to the infotainment system, it tries to find the phone and then nothing happens. So, I switched off the Android Auto function on my infotainment system because at least I would use my phone as an external device to listen the music stored on it. But even this thing is a torture! Every time I connect the phone as USB mass storage device, the car system starts the data indexing (consider that I have stored about 180 gigabytes of music...). But often, the phone cannot be recognized by the system, don't know why, it's like a sort of lucky combinations of passages that I do to obtain the music played by the system. I'm getting really exhausted by all of this... Hope Google will fix the app, considering the previous versions of Android operating system, just like only one month ago.

[Q] Is Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 Working?

I am just wondering if anyone has had success getting Bluetooth Track metadata to be listed when syncing to bluetooth devices such as ones found in our cars. I have a Ford Focus and when I send media to the Ford Sync system using things like Pandora or BeyondPod, the only information listed is "Unknown" under the bluetooth category.
I know that this in particular was an Android issue and was not support through Android until 4.3 Jelly Bean. My previous phone was a Galaxy S3 rooted with Tasks latest rom running Android 4.3 and that device works properly. It syncs immediately with the car stereo and track listings are displayed properly as well as incoming text messages display on the screen.
This is not the case with my brand new Galaxy Note 3. I assumed that since it was running Android 4.3 and supported the newer bluetooth standards that it would perform similarly. That might have been my first mistake...assuming....but is anyone else having similar issues? Can someone point me in a direction that I might be doing something wrong? Im really hoping its just a setting I am missing and not something that Samsung decided to leave out or forgot about.
Thanks in advance.

It works on Note 3, in fact it works on all 4.3's now, I've had this issue on Nexus 4 and the last few new updates it started working.
You can see the name of song and artist and so on...

Thanks for the reply. I have had it working on a couple of 4.3 devices now, including my own Galaxy S3 running 4.3 and on all of those devices I really did not have to do anything besides sync the Phone with the device and send a Pandora track to it. Did you confirm it is working on the Note 3 in particular, and if so, did you have to turn any settings on or do anything special to get it to send the data?
As of right now, the song is played by the bluetooth device but no track information is displayed. This is also supposed to work for text messages, however I dont see that information displayed either. I want to confirm it is working on these Note 3 so I can try and narrow down a software or hardware issue.
Doesn't work on my Note, syncd with a Kenwood DDX429.

Maybe S3 did not the lates updates.
Nexus 4 is like the lates you can get them, and NOTE 3 just came out so should have latest.
I can confirm BT work amazing with all the proper displaying, SMS, pictures in phonebook and so on on my NOTE 3 N900W8 and my Ford SYNC, touch, latest firmware.
I did not have to do anything special, just paired and done.
Voice clarity and sound volume are amazing.
One problem BT creats a wakelocck "bluetooth_timer" trying to figure it out why.
Thanks for that.. So we have a Note 3 that works and one that doesn't. My Note 3 is an N900A on ATT..... I wonder if there is a carrier software issue at play here?
Can anyone else on different carriers confirm or deny the functionality of this feature?

After a bit more testing, it looks like my text messages on my N900A actually do work with the car bluetooth unit. Which makes things a bit more odd since I know that before I got 4.3 on my S3, I was not able to receive any information on the display. Once I upgraded to 4.3 then everything just started working.
Since your N900A seems to work properly it makes me wonder if something is wrong with this particular phone. I'll have to test with a friends Note 3 and see what happens.
What apps were you using that worked properly? Did you do anything special (i.e. settings, app settings, etc) or like previously mentioned, did you just sync the phone and everything started working?

Try looking if there is a new soft for the car.
Also I've checked the "bluetooth_timer" wakelock problem, and if you press "cancel" when phone asks you to allow messages, and you don't check markalways allow for the phone book, the wakelock is not a problem. Also don;t set phonebook to auto download if you have the option, just do one time download.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I just upgraded the car software to the latest release as of last month. I also ruled that out because the S3 is working just fine. Where before it was on Android 4.3 I would not see any info on the screen.
At this point I might be leaning towards a defective phone, due to text messages appearing on the screen but no metadata, but I will try some more testing. I have access to a second Note 3 that I will try to sync up and see what happens.
I am hoping I get some more feed back before I resort to replacing the unit. We shall see.

that sucks, but I highly doubte it's the phone defect, it's just software of the car or phone. Best bet is to wait for CM ROM for this phone CM worked always best for me re: car bluetooth.
Also some cars are just bad that way I tried my Nexus 4 on brand new Infinity FX fully loaded everything, the phone would not even connect to their system
My friend has Infinity EX35 2008, his Andorid phone would not allow him to play music through BT or cable, but I gave him my old crappy Iphone 3G and it works perfectly.
Try googling your car's smartphone supported list. Like this but for your car: here
My best suggestion keep the phone try not to get bothered by this and eventually it will work, I had to wait for about 5-6 month till it started working again. It all has to do with software updates and BT files.

I thought of that too, just wait for software patch or CM. Its my OCD that is getting in the way. The phone seems to work fine otherwise. I know its a little thing and it could also just be that the phone is newer then my car and car software so it may just take some time to get the kinks worked out.
I'll give it a few more days and see who else replies before I do anything rash I did live with the S3 just fine with no metadata before it got upgraded. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll keep your wakelock suggestions in mind as well.

Ford Focus Titanium 2013, I really appreciate it.
It always makes me laugh when I see so many people who have bluetooth in their vehicle or a fancy smartphone and have no idea what they can do together Its a curse being the tech guy and knowing what things can do and agonizing over some specific issue that the normal person/user doesn't even realize is there. I.E. metadata on the display.

Normal Person: "Does the car play the song?"

I have used multiple devices in my car and the song information always displays correctly. Ever since I purchased my Note 3, I have noticed that my car's

I have not found a way to update my car's software but I will look into it. Just wanted to add my issues to the thread.

Thanks for the reply, I would bet Samsung is doing things a little differently with these new phones and it might take a bit for the Manufacturers to catch up. I have also read on a couple other sites that AVRCP 1.3 may not be implemented properly and might need to be updated by Samsung, it is unknown at this point but hopefully I will be able to test this out with a Tmobile Note 3 this afternoon and report back on how things look.
With my ATT Note 3, I get text messages on the screen (which I didnt on the S3 prior to updating) but I dont get any track info.
Lets keep the confirmations coming, maybe we can narrow down a make and model and let the Carriers/Samsung know they need to fix something if its broke.

Nexus 6 no longer recognising PC (and PC no longer recognising phone) in Fastboot etc

Around February, my phone was working fine and connecting to my PC and being recognised (in both the phone AND PC/Device Manager). Because I was rooted, I used Wug's toolkit to flash the latest factory image at the time (which included the February security update) and kept data as I've done in the past. It was fine for ~2 weeks after that factory image flash and then my phone just stopped recognising the PC, and my PC stopped recognising the phone as a device. It was completely out of the blue, and seems unfixable.
When I plug my phone into my Desktop - it just charges. It doesn't appear in the device manager at all (image below - Device manager WITH phone plugged in and not appearing):

I've had to do the old 'update drivers' thing in the past with other phones, but they would normally appear under "Phone" or "Other devices" - but both are missing from the list ("Show hidden devices" used in that image). There's also no yellow triangle to say an unknown device has been connected. It just flat out doesn't know it's there. I've also updated/re-downloaded the SDK (and Google drivers) but the phone still isn't recognised.
It got so bad, I had to use USBDeview to uninstall the drivers in the first place because they never appeared. It still didn't help.
On the phone side of things - I'm not given an option to mount the phone as any form of storage. It just behaves like I've plugged it into a charger.
In the USB and Storage settings (image below) - I'm not given an option for ANY form of USB connection.
And in the notification shade (again, while plugged into my PC) no option is given. It just charges:
I've also tried factory resetting the phone, since it charges fine so I don't think it's the charging port but now I've lost root AND the problem is still there. I still can't install OTA updates because in order to get Root, I had to use a kernel which disabled those "this device has been modified" alerts when you boot it, which means the OTA just fails (Error 7 (or 6) - and something about recovery).
In Fastboot, it just says it's 'charging' and makes no attempt to connect via USB. Recovery is the same so it doesn't sound like an Android problem per-se since it affects Fastboot but hardware wise - would could it be?
As a last resort, I've also tried multiple cables (working one for the Nexus 7, DS4 one and a Motorola one) and none of them seem to have helped.
I've also tried different USB ports and on different machines - both running windows 10 and both with the drivers installed but still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm just sick of this problem at this point.

You've tried a lot.
My idea is to try to connect to another PC, when possible not Windows 10.
This to check that the problem isn't caused by the phone.

That's a very good point. Pretty glad one of my PCs didn't like the 10 upgrade and is still on 7.
I'll try it when I get home. Thanks for the reply!

W10-updates are causing issues on my PC
If changing PCs doesn't help, try a different cable. If that still doesn't work, you likely have a problem with the micro USB port.

Tried 3 different USB cables and no luck.
I've got a spare microUSB I bought from eBay which I'll need to solder but the only thing I could find on faulty ports were that it doesn't charge right but mine does.
Going to try connecting it to a windows 7 laptop and see where that goes. If it still doesn't work - the only thing left would be the port itself which will be a pain to replace (and still doesn't guarantee it'll be fixed).
Honestly it sounds like a hardware issue with the MicroUSB port. I can confirm it works fine under my Windows 10 PC at home, both normal access for files and I've also had no issues with using fastboot or ADB. If it's under warranty try to RMA it. If it's out of warranty see how much it would cost to change the MicroUSB port from a local shop or try it yourself
I've had the same thing happen to me twice. I think that some times Windows updates and kills the drivers. Whenever it's happened to me I've installed a universal adb driver that's floating around XDA. Once that alone fixed the issue. Once it didn't. The time it didn't I had to open every device heading in the device manager until I found one that had Google hidden inside it. I uninstalled the Google driver from there in the device manager and then plugged my phone in. Windows did the normal device install from the phone and all was fixed. Hope that helps. Good luck. Windows 10 truly sucks.
Maybe to rule out pc, find a buddy with android phone and see whether you can detect it with adb or fastboot on your pc. I think those drivers are supposed to be universal (all phones)....aren't they?

Tried it on my Windows 10 laptop as well and it's the same problem. Just tried it on my older Windows 7 laptop as well, and same story.
My older Nexus 7 2012 connects fine to all 3 so I don't think it's the drivers.

Sadly already tried this but what's worse is - I've looked through all the possible 'dropdown' options and the drivers/device doesn't appear but it appears in USB Deview (where I uninstalled them).
Tried both the universal ADB driver and Google's own one from the SDK - sadly didn't work in the end.

I'm beginning to think the same to be honest. It doesn't connect in Fastboot, which leads me to believe it's more hardware than software because if it were Android itself screwing up - it would at least work in Fastboot as that doesn't touch Android.
It doesn't mount as anything, so I can't access my files on any of the systems I've tried. I've even tried my younger brother's laptop and it doesn't 'see' it (but his Nexus 4 connects and works just fine).
I bought my Nexus 6 ~6 months after release so it's out of warranty (what a time for it to run out of warranty). I bought a new USB port from eBay ages back so I might have to fit it myself since all the repair shops I've contacted would take ~3 days to do it and I need to have a phone.
I really hope replacing the port will fix it. It charges fine, which makes me slightly worried it won't work (as it's not an obvious port issue) but I can't think of anything else which could be the problem.
Thanks to everyone who's replied though! I'll see how the USB replacement works out.
Hello all, long time lurker 1st time poster....
I've never really felt the need to post because i normally just do a search and work things out for myself, but i'm now having the same problem and noticed this around 2-3 weeks ago after trying to copy some pictures i'd taken onto my Laptop from my Nexus 6 and it not being recognised, only charging.
I've tried EVERYTHING (apart from reverting back to Windows 7) mentioned in this thread and in a couple of the other threads i've found where a few Nexus 6 users have had the same problem. I'm now stumped for ideas.
My Nexus 6 runs as flawlessly as usual, no battery drainage, stutters etc.
I'm currently running Temasek's 18.2 (5.1.1) rom, and have been using it now for a long time (probably for 8 months or so with absolutely no problems whatsoever). I've updated to MM a few times and tried a few different Roms, but to be honest i just found that LP worked better for me so have always just reverted back to the last official LP 5.1.1 LVY48I Rom using Wugfresh's Tool Kit (i know i know , but having rooted/played about with other Samsung/HTC Phones in the past, i just preferred to use it) and then restoring my backed up reliable Temasek's 18.2 Rom.
So, what else can i say....well, i called Motorola around a week ago for some advice, just incase there is a potential warranty claim (because my Nexus 6 is only around 9 months old), but as i have a Custom Rom on it, they said that there is nothing that they can do.
I do have an official clean 5.1.1 Rom LMY48M that i fortunately backed up to my TWRP Folder on my laptop just after installing TWRP+rooting. I did 1st of all also try connecting my Sandisk Ultra Dual USB DRIVE 3.0 to my Nexus with the Rom on there, but the Nexus just doesn't even know that the USB Drive is connected, so I have had to send it via bluetooth to my Nexus from my laptop, as that was the only way to get it on there. I found that Zipping the file 1st, sending it to my Nexus via Bluetooth and then extracting it once i'd received it saved hours in time because the file was too large in its original form (something like 4+gb down to 1.9gb). I've also tried a few other LP Rom's in the last couple of weeks, hoping that maybe i'd accidentally switched a setting off or something and that the phone would correct itself and my connection problem would correct itself but i've had no joy.
NOW...........................probably a silly question but it's the only other way i can think of returning to Stock for a potential warranty claim. I know that i can install the official 5.1.1 Rom i backed up via TWRP because i've tried, but is there a way to remove Root+TWRP and return to Stock Recovery+remove root without using a PC ? I'm pretty sure that there isn't but feel the time is right for me to ask the Question as i'm really not 100% sure.
Many Thanks in advance for helpful advice given, like i've said at the start of this post, i've held off asking Questions before because i had no real need and just searched  , but this has really stumped me .
CHEERS
Some quick thoughts.
1. The Motorola rep you spoke to I think read from a script and didn't realize you were talking about the Nexus 6. As this is a developer device, having custom software on it should make no difference for warranty purposes. If I am mistaken however, read on.
2. If you're going to install a stock ROM on the Nexus 6, a PC will be required, especially if needing to replace TWRP with the stock recovery. So why not download the latest Android 6.0.1 image from Google's Nexus firmware page and flash that? There's no point in reverting to an Android 5.x image simply for a warranty claim.
Many thanks Strephon Alkhalikoi for your quick reply and sorry for my slow 1 (work was getting in the way....)
1 - at some point today, i hope to chase my potential problem up with Motorola or possibly Expansys because i purchased the Nexus 6 from them via Play.com/Rakuten.co.uk
2 - The 5.1.1 Stock image that was going to be put on the Nexus was only a normal TWRP back up i'd saved by chance straight after flashing+rooting that i had saved to my Laptop. There is no way for me to flash any new Stock software because my Nexus is just not recognised by my Laptop. I've tried installing+uninstalling drivers/Minimal ADB Fastboot file/Wugfresh's Toolkit, plus Developer options usb debugging on/off etc and Settings/Storage/USB Connection (3 little dots top right) which gives me 2 options Media Device (MTP) + Camera (PTP) but after changing either, still no sign of connection, just charging.
As it stands it works fine on 5.1.1, but with me not being able to Flash any Stock Roms because of my Laptop connection issue, it will be forever more on LP. I could put up with that but obviously i need to try and sort this out also because i can't transfer normally any media files backwards/forwards (only via the much slower Bluetooth) and it will affect any future sell on value when it's time to move on.
Many Thanks once again
**Latest Update** for those not asleep yet....
i spent nearly 20 minutes on the phone around an hour or so ago explaining my problem to Motorola. It's not something they've heard of before so couldn't really help and that by being Rooted, their repair center will not touch it. I can only think that if i'd purchased the Nexus 6 straight from Google, it would not have been such a problem to handle a Rooted device so it would have been taken in for repair i'm guessing.
It was explained to me that i would be contacted via email once a technician had been consulted and here is the reply i received a little while ago.
"Thank you for contacting Motorola.
As promised, I have spoken to a technician who has a couple of suggestions.
A. As we discussed, he also suggested connecting your phone to another computer.
B. Be sure that you have Windows Media Player and the PS Drivers installed on your laptop.
[link removed due to my lack of XDA posts]
C.
At this point, I would like to suggest that you restart your phone on Safe Mode.
Safe Mode puts a phone in a diagnostic state and it can help us determine if a third-party app is causing the device to malfunction (freeze/reboot/run slow/error message). Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Google Play store. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a third-party app is the cause of the issue you are experiencing.
Please long press the power button > long tap on power off > reboot to safe mode >ok.
If you find that the issue is resolved in Safe Mode, please delete all apps from the phone, and gradually add them back one or two at a time, until you are able to identify which is causing the sound issue.
To move phone from Safe Mode back to normal mode, you can simply restart it.
D.
To be sure if the problem is software or the port itself:
1. Reboot phone in Fastboot Mode
2. Plus phone into computer
3. If phone is recognised as 'Fastboot Shamu NS,' the issue is software, rather than a physical issue.
In this case, you would need to reset the phone, which I know you are hesitant to do, but you should then be able to reflash the factory images, available on the Google website.
Unfortunately, there little else that we are able to do to help you since, as discussed over the phone, SBE UK, our repair, centre will not accept a rooted device.
For any further assistance or information please do not hesitate to contact us, quoting your Customer Reference number. We are reachable on 03339 997 550 to discuss the matter further with one of our experienced customer service agents. Please contact us any time between the hours of 8am and 8pm from Monday to Friday.

I've tried all of the above (apart from connecting to another PC) and still no joy so it looks like i'm stuck on LP. Like i've said before, it still works as normal so no real hardship apart from the lack of Software updates and the normal easier transferring of media files. I'll keep an eye out on this and the other threads to see if a solution becomes available.

SBE repaired my nexus 5, when it was rooted/unlocked.
Is there any damage to the usb port? Never tell the customer service rep that your device.
Cheers for the reply JonesL
As far as I'm aware, there isn't any damage to the USB Port. I did say I thought that that might be the problem but she said if it was the reason, then the phone wouldn't charge at all.
I could still send it in and hope that on the off chance they don't check for Root, but i will be liable for the postal returns plus the hassle of being without a mobile whilst it is away. Also, I've now given my IMEI number and a couple of other details so I'm sure I'll now flag up on their system when its checked.
Oh well....

Don't want to upgrade to oreo

Is it possible to prevent the update to 8.0?
I've read conflicting stories, some say turn off auto download and just ignore the update messages.
Others say the upgrade will install regardless.
Which is it?
It's preventable to some extent i guess... But it pops again and again... And then the system is going to get buggy.... Any particular reason not to upgrade....

You can untick the option but some people reported it eventually installed anyways. To be safe I would disable the specific packages, but yes it's possible.

If your using a carrier unlocked version you can simply move to a different carrier and if your drivers are not up to date you will never get a notification to update. I currently have an ATT unlocked note 8 running on T-Mobile still on 7.1.1 as you can see
I prevented the updates by not allowing autoupdates in settings, as I knew that this was not entirely reliable, I used bk disabler pro plugin, if you are still running 7.1.1, it is easy to do it this way
Any reason why you don't want to install the latest version of Android on your device? As you are leaving your device opened to security flaws.

I spend a lot of time in my car inbetween appointments, visiting clients etc.
Its important that I'm up to speed at work and the Note 8 was (until oreo and 1st October patch) the only device that gave me email, sms and system messages in my BMW.
Whilst driving, the car would read out my emails and if it was important I could make a call in response. Now, my note 8 doesn't even see the car, nothing, zilch, nada.
I know BT works on other pairings, I can pair the phone to my other devices but it just will not see the car and the car now won't see the phone. I can pair other phones to it but none of them give me email which is molto importante!
I have already updated the car BT and like I've said, it used to work up until a month ago.
So, I'm trading in my note 8 for a new one that is still on 7.1.1 as I'm dead in the water without connectivity whilst travelling.
I have been on with Samsung support who say BMW need to make an updated BT oreo firmware and, BMW say the same about Samsung.

How to stop malware and spyware on the note 9

Does anyone know how to remove spyware and malware for the note 9, I am getting sick of wiping my phone ,when I know persons are hacking into my phone ,right now I know it has to be something to do with the phone serial number and bluetooth. I had to turn off low power scan and scan for near by devices. I only use bluetooth when I am in my car so when it on I got a feeling there can hack in that way, I don't leave my bluetooth on when I am not using it can anyone help me on this matter person can watch me using my phone view anything my camera see which is the front camera or the rear camera there can also view what I have open when I am using my phone.
Wtf
Is that even possible? I know that there is some software what can be written to firmware ant that way it will survive hard reset. If your phone is not rooted and you using factory firmware then is impossible for someone to access your phone remotely. If you use any software which allows for remote access to your phone, log to your account, preferably from clean pc and change your passwords and user name if possible.

Although BlueBorne was a known bluetooth vulnerability, that was 2 years ago, likely patched on a recent flagship like the note 9
I think it maybe BlueBorne but my note 9 was stuck on the August security patch. Ok from the beginning I bought the phone in December waited and waited and I didn't get any updates to the phone so from December to late February I was still on August security patch bear in mine I try almost every day to manually update my the uses of setting and nothing work so I take the phone back to the store I bought it from and there give a BS story about Samsung and update it to the January security patch as I ask so I know the phone can be updated, after I got back the phone I say to myself being that the phone is an unlock phone I did my research and look for a open market that had the pie update so I did a clean wipe one with the phone and one in the recovery before I use Odin to install pie but I hanging over my head that here may be somehow there got back in after the pie update cause I know for sure for December to when I wipe the phone myself all my info was be pull from my phone , picture, video, important data, and as I said the camera being use but the app is not open put this way, if my phone was a computer and you was in the next room using screen mirror and just watch what I doing on my phone plus the ability to use file at will or even download them.

If you use any software which allows for remote access to your phone, log to your account, preferably from clean pc and change your passwords and user name if possible.

So... Is that hacker accessing your camera every time you accidentally double-press the power button? since you don't remember it being open when you press the power button?

It a pioneer car radio and I know of the interference you are talking about I had a Microsoft zune and that use to pick up all two way radio signals that mean if I am walking down the road and a truck pass i can hear the two way road. But what I am talking about is that the voices I am hearing are voices of persons I know I should had started with that i the bluetooth audio because you will be able to hear them better that way cause the volume is louder that the speaker on the phone and if it quite you can hear them also. Even tracking my data if I call my phone company and ask about my data for the month it doesn't match back to the Samsung data tracker nor glasswire data tracker. Trust me I not going off but if people are doing doing for year you get to pick up on little thing your phone is doing that you yourself is not doing to the phone.

You can still add you input besides that picture
I personally dont think anyone is spying on you. In any case, just wipe your phone and reinstall. If you have backups go through each app and make sure theres no rouge apps.
If you dont want to go through the long process go into apps then into permissions. Disable unwanted permission like camera, microphone on apps that shouldnt need those permissions.
You should really install apps through playstore or apk pure. Apps with mods and cracks are the ones you should stay clear.
We live in a super connected planet interference can happen so easily! Not sure what network provider you are with ? Some network providers suck others are awesome! All depends who you with ??
Also your data not matching up, can be easily be mismatched as servers not updating or your data is on the sever but server only updates once a week or a month to save cost there to many factors involved to say this is the issue
Plus you did say you have reset your Note 9! So how can he really keep track of how much data you have used ?
Mr Ted Harris you are not being hacked or being spied just take a deep breath and relax!

I have three different ways of tracking my data glasswire my network provider and the Samsung way, the thing is in January I get a text message from the provider saying I use up 95% of my data I was at a loss cause if i have a 8gb plan a month and what is not use roll over to the next month and any large download I do on wifi even to update my app I do on wifi, I don't use YouTube on my data for sure Facebook can't be pulling that much data or Instagram, the network provider can't be wrong as as I am typing I have use 1.8gb out of 8gb for the month so for and not putting in to account what I had roll over from February cause glasswire nor Samsung registers what is roll over, just making a example.

Yes I understand about disabling unwanted permissions but as reinstalling app goes you have two options Google or Samsung, Google reinstalling everything you had on your phone even if you downloaded it for apkpure once it can come from the play store, so if a app the say not available in this region and you use apkpure to download it, it will be redownload back for the play store, where as Samsung reinstalling all apps even if there come for the play store or Galaxy store, can it be possible I am redownload the spyware or malware from Samsung cloud as I am restoring my app, in the picture I what I have installed on my phone at the moment only thing I don't normally use is the Norton app.

Suddenly, the dreaded "Device is not supported" after 4 years

I have an Alpine iLX-W650 and a OnePlus 7 Pro. Android Auto has been working perfectly for well over 4 years now, even through OS upgrades (currently on Android 12).
Suddenly, about a week ago I got the "Device is not supported." message. A reboot of the phone while in the car fixed it.
Then it happened again the next day, nothing I do resolves it including a new or different cable. There was an Android update this morning and I also saw a new version of Android Auto. I did both of these hoping one would fix the issue. Nothing. Multiple reboots later, including telling Android Auto to forget me unit, still nothing.
I had my wife plug in her phone and the head unit works perfectly with Android Auto, so something with my phone changed or a setting is corrupted. I'm not sure how to get things working again.
As mentioned, I tried:
another cable (several now)
"Forgetting all cars" in the settings
Forgetting connected cars in the Head Unit.
Factory resetting the Head Unit.
Double-checking the Head Unit is the latest firmware (it is).
Deleting the AA app and clearing data and cache for it and then updating to the latest.
Deleting the AA app and clearing data and cache for it and then trying to connect to let it pull down AA.
As noted above, my wife's phone works no problem with my head unit and since thing my daughter tried her phone which works too. Clearly, something on my phone got corrupted or something to cause it to not work anymore.
Rule #1 - if a OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be! Upgrades and updates can and do break devices.
Once you sort that mess out disable auto updates.
For anyone that might stumble on this, I considered that maybe my phone's data port was at fault and causing issues. Otherwise, my OnePlus 7 Pro works great and still charges. Not really ready to let it go.
Since I've always wanted AA to be wireless, I ordered the AAwireless device and it works flawlessly. In fact, it is more responsive than when my phone was cabled. Wish I had done this years ago.

A port pcb failure can cause data and phone service loss at least on Samsung's.
If it happens after a firmware upgrades/update it's not a hardware failure...
