I noticed that since yesterday, Google Now seems to have gotten reduced functionality, namely, in setting reminders.
I used to use voice commands all the time to leave reminders, specially location-based ones.
I noticed now that whether I say "reminder" or "alarm" it sets an alarm... and can no longer set them to a specific location like "remind me when I get home to..." and only at a specific time.
I also noticed that it appears to be hooking into HTC's own Alarm app instead of using it's own alarm/notification system.
Is this something HTC updated in it's internal apps that is taking over the reminder/alarm feature of Google Now? Or is Google Now itself doing this from adding support for notifications from 3rd party apps? Any way to revert it back?
same here

it's driving me crazy! I need my reminders back!
Known issue for the past few days. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/websearch/vu0eMzw83MU[1-25]
From what I've read you can type in the reminder and it'll work. It's when you do it via voice and it has to go out to google servers does the bug pop up. I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.
I started using Google Messenger recently, and one thing I noticed, is that when the phone is off to the side, and I get a new text message, the screen doesn't pop on, like it did with stock Messages and Textra.
Is there some Settings somewhere I need to enable that ?

From my experience, you need the Tasker app and set up a profile to turn the screen on. That is the only way I have found that works consistently. You will also need the Secure Settings app.
The Tasker app can seem overwhelming, but if you take your time and read some of the help files, it is actually pretty easy. I use the same app to turn my phone to vibrate when the phone links to my work wifi.

screen notifications or glimpse notification from the play store
Hey people, anyone has Facebook notifications fully working? I mean on the Fb app... I dont get the number badge when I get Likes for instance. Only if I open the app, otherwise its "neat and clean". I only get notified for the new comments and thats kinda it. Do you have all of them working?
PS: please do not tell me to activate notifications, or the "show the badge with numbers" from the homescreen settings, because all are active, I am not a novice user .
Thanks!
I have that issue as well. Also, Flipboard widget never refreshes properly. This happened on my S9+ as well. I wonder if setting up the phone connected to previous phone copying screwed something up.
Neh man, it didnt screw anything up...unfortunately samsung screwed smth up... I have to use Microsoft Launcher, which can be set up to act and look exactly like Samsung launcher, BUT gives me notifications for Fb and also badges dont disappear when you clear the notification bar. But I dont like to use 3rd party bull..it, instead of what the phone comes with... and I thought maybe someone has a solution or found out smth new...
Try to use different launcher as said above. But my suggestion is to turn off notifications and backup updates for facebook at all - it will save up to 4 hours for the battery
Coming from the S7 Edge, I don't truly care for this but I didn't have this since S7E and I just noticed it's not showing on my Note9 either. Might be Samsung UI related? I have noticed every now and then I do get the notification number on Messenger but not the Facebook app.
I've seen some threads asking about the google messages apk. but my question is:
My s21 ultra came with google messages by default as SMS app, I also have the Samsung messages app installed (I set it as default instead of the google messages app).
Is there a reason for the google messages app to have come as default? Are there any advantages to it?
p.s. I didn't really find the exact answer around the forum, if there is such answer, can you please point me to it and close this thread?
Regards

I like google messages mainly for the good integration of RCS and also because it has a web app. The UI is fine, darkmode is cool, so if I had to choose I'd go for Google.
Now on why it's google messages by default, I have no clue...
Personally, I like Google Messages, but Samsung Messages now has RCS too I believe. It just got it recently. But from what I've seen and used, Google Messages is probably the way to go. It's just a better experience overall. It can verify business senders, help you report spam messages, and also just a couple of different things that are convenient, like what Raiz mentioned above. I'd go back to Google if you want something that works better overall.
Thanks mates!
Will switch back to Google/Android Messages and test it out a bit more
I use Messages, the only AT&T bloatware app I use.
Edit, it's Samsung not AT&T
Here I am still using Textra lol
Google messages far superior easier to use, much easier adding gifs, emojis and attachments.
I use Google Messages it's really nice and simple to use.
Wish you could uninstall the samsung contacts, calendar, calc, clock, messages, phone etc.... it's the one thing that irritates me with samsung that they spend all this effort replicating what google already does a perfectly good job of.

You can remove using the adb commands. You can find the package name by using the apk analyzer app.
I was using Google Messages on my previous device, but with the S21 I couldn't set conversations to be mute (roaming messages i receive daily on my 2nd sim).
I can only make the notification silent for that conversation, but I don't even want the notification, which I cannot do.
Samsung Messages have this ability
I use signal. Better than both, has everything plus security and privacy.

Well you can hide apps from the main user (you) with this trick but you can't actually delete the apk file from /system unless you have root.
I personally prefer Samsung messaging app, mainly because of the its UI.
However, the main advantage of Google messages is the availability of RCS by default, no matter where you live or which carrier you have. You can have RCS with Samsung messages but only if your carrier supports it.

Ah, really? I haven't had that problem with my S21U whilst using Google Messages. How were you trying to mute them?

In Samsung Messenger the no notifications option (bell icon with a bar on it) will not even show a notification in the Android notifications area (When I open Messages I will see there is unread messages in the silent conversation), while Google Messages it will still show a notification but without sound.
I use Google Messages because for some reason, MMS won't send or receive in Samsung Messeges.
If anyone has a fix for this....

IMO... Google doesn't really do a good job with most things other than its search algorithms, ad monopoly and data rape....

Exactly, especially their UI. I have a pixel phone and many years after the launch of material design Google still doesn't use it in all its apps. The apps feels completely separate, each has it's ow design and colors. Some apps have dark mode with full black background (setting app) while others have dark gray background (contacts, messages,...). Let's not talk about YouTube, which still doesn't follow MD 2...
I like how samsung use the same design language for all its apps and they pay particular attention to small details just like IOS
I've had my ViVO fold for about 3 weeks now, and have everything working except I can't get the notification dot to appear in the corner of my text and Gmail widgets.
I have shuffled the bloatware onto the last page, and combined most of it into a bloatware folder, so I never see it, and implemented the phone entirely with Play store apps. I use native Google apps for Gmail and text, drive, docs, sheets, etc, and everything works fine except I have to access Gmail and messages, to see if I have any new emails or texts. I use T-Mobile and it worked fine from day one.
I have been reading XDA threads as a guest since I got my fold. I have seen the general discussion about vivo fold issues, but can't find it anymore.
What asking you for?
Mostly, I am reporting my experience of treating it like a regular Android phone, and ignoring the vivo stuff.
The only question I was asking was how to get the notification. On my Gmail and messages icon.

You should use just the stock message app which works fine with notifications and dual Colin display etc. no real advantage to using Google message and the scaling is way too huge. Does your Wi-Fi calling work? Mine is turned on but doesn’t work.
