So, after about a week with the Gear VR, here are my initial list of improvements. Feel free to add.
- Youtube Mode,
- Ability to disable Gear VR Autostart upon insertion.
- Ability to run Cardboard Apps
- Ability to run Oculus DK Apps
- Back button twice removes the need to confirm yes or no.
- Ability to delete videos
- Ability to disable my photos from showing in Oculus ( yes, my personal photos in dcim)
- Ability to change seats in the theater.
- Subtitles in movies etc.
- Ability to fast forward/ rewind Oculus 360 Video Files.
- Ability to swipe up and down in oculus photo so you can jump to next category of images instead of just next image.
PS - From the oculus site, the best way to insert the Note 4 without triggering vr app is to first tilt the usb port on the gear vr upward then slide the Note 4 below it.
.
Oh sure, more to add:
Netflix, Google play, amazon streaming tv and movies in oculus cinema mode would be epic. Being able to run any app on the big screen of the cinema mode would rock, like emulators limelight game streaming, etc., using bt controller.
Double tap back should open the pass thru camera mode so I can quickly see what's going on. Adding wireless download of cities 360 images on the fly.

I would say this is the most important one and would resolve much of the rest of the list. Thanks to cardboard there is already a lot of VR content that, while it may not be able to use the additional sensors and controls int he Gear VR, will still work with it. You can not entirely insert it into the USB port o accomplish this, but this is a very poor workaround and it seems like the buttons should still be able to work even out of the app since it's seen by the device as a mouse input.

Maybe you can activate the private mode and put your personal photos in there, so that they can be only accessed by your fingerprint or password. Then they shouldn't show up in the Gear VR aswell.

Yeah that's defintely an option but more work I shouldn't be doing. Gear VR automatically showing my dcim videos on Oculus Cinema is kinda weird. I only want it to show videos under it's own folders.

Yeah, i'd love to be able to disable it. Maybe there is a way to disable one of the main Oculus app with the application manager. I'm not quite sure which one to disable at the moment as there are quite a few oculus related apps showing. Will tinker with it.
To enable/disable subs just use the gallery viewer to find the movie you want. From there there's an option for subs once the movie is playing . Only get the void viewing option though.
Here's a thread on using cardboard apps and playing SBS 3D video on BS player (should work on other players too) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-vr/general/gear-vr-google-cardboard-3d-vids-t2973607
- Ability to focus eyes individually - This would require moving the lens rather than the phone, but if your eyes are not the same, one will always be blurry. Unless you have contacts i guess.
- Better ventilation - My lens gets steamed up
how to
how do you put gear vr in Youtube Mode,
- Ability to disable Gear VR Autostart upon insertion.
- Ability to run Cardboard Apps
- Ability to run Oculus DK Apps
can you make a video or upload a how to on here

Adjust for different eye distances.
My eyes are close together (low PD) and I feel like it may be affecting image quality. Samsung IPD claims is 55mm to 71mm, so I am at the low end.

This basically?
- Ability to use the phone like normal
- Ability to record videos and take pictures when using the see-through function (kind of useless but meh)

I figured out a surefire way to stop Gear VR from starting for now. I just use Titanium Backup and the "Gear VR Service" WILL show. I just freeze it and unfreeze when needed. I tried the other app that was recommended but that for sure did not show Gear VR Service on the list of apps to disable.

I'm not sure as I have root. But one great thing about this is, it actually lets me use the trackpad on the Gear VR. I can even swipe forward and back along with the regular tap.

*Jealous* :crying: That sounds like fun though~ Can you use your phone like normal and load up oculus stuff still? o.0
edit:
A tablet made for the gearVR would be cool too! Something like a drawing tablet that ends up functioning and looking like the fancy tablets in those marvel movies
I received my Watch Urbane last week and am very pleased with it.
I now want to add some new watch faces and saw on Youtube an app called 'Facer for Android Wear'. You can download watch faces from www.facerepo.com and, in theory, then transfer them to your watch. However when I try and import the files into the Facer app it can't see the files on my phone. The reason being is that it is searching for ZIP files and the downloads are .watch extensions!!
Has anyone managed to get the Facer app to work with their Urbane and, if so, how did you import downloaded watches into the app please?
Hi,
I've searched all arround the web, but found nothing that fits my needs.
I'm a kind of youtube entuiast and often when I watch a movie I see another suggestions and then I click on "watch later".
Now my watch later list has around 1000 entries but they are not sorted as I want to watch them.
In a earlier youtube interface it was possible to use checkboxes on the videos to move them to special playlists.
Now you just can move all of them to another playlist. Is there any App, Chrome extension, webtool, whatever, that brings back such a function?
As far as I can see the API of youtube should give you the option to do that, but I'm not an expert programmer so I'm not able to create such a tool.
Maybe someone else has already done it.
Dear All,
I have the urbane watch and i use it with iphone 6.
i see many watch faces but i can't add them in ios android wear app.
it's possible to add the faces directly in the watch without using iphone?
alternately i can synchronize the watch with more devices (both ios and android)?
Thanks in advance.
I've installed several 3rd party watch faces in the android wear app but they aren't showing up on my LG G Watch R running AW2
Open Playstore on the Watch and swipe down... there you find the downloads for the Watchfaces ...
In AW2 apps are not installed on the watch automatically. You can install on phone and watch separately which is good. But installing on the watch is slow and cumbersome. Open Google Play store on the watch and you'll find a menu called "apps on phone" or something like that.
You can also install other wear apps directly to the watch without having to run the companion app on the phone.
