SmartThings cannot read data - Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Hi all, I have my Watch 3 the very first day. Do you use SmartThings application? It does not work on my device (it did on my previous Gear S3 Classic). It claims it cannot read data. Does anyone use this app? Or is there any better remote TV application? Can't find any at Galaxy Store.
Thanks,
Lubos

Every time I try to use smartthings it tells me that I need to log into smartthings with Bixby. When I go on my phone it pulls up the Bixby modules and when I tap on smartthings it tells me all the wonderful things I can do but none of those things work with no where to sign in. On Samsung's website it says that if you are using the Samsung account (aka have migrated from the smartthings account) then it should automatically work, but it doesnt. Seems like a bug to me but it doesn't make sense as it seems like all the hooks are there for it to work.

Have to wait.
If someone did not know, the appropriate version of the application has not yet been prepared for Tizen 5.

After updating to version 1.5.18, the Smartthings application works fine.

S-apps Soft Dependencies

I wondered if anyone else has noticed the sheer amount of soft dependencies that the S-apps have on each other, especially S-Voice. For example S-voice can't make a memo without S-notes and can't retrieve news without Flipboard.
Many other examples exist. S-Notes has options in the settings to sync with Samsung cloud, even if the Samsung cloud syncing apps/services are removed, even the cloud services seem to have some soft dependencies with Dropbox.
All the S-apps will of course function for the most part on their own, but might have such issues or orphan settings, something I just don't like.
A lot of TW ROMS are debloating by removing some of these apps, but I don't know if everyone realizes what I just mentioned.
Personally I would prefer just the Samsung camera, but I have heard (though not tried without) that even it is dependent on S-Voice. If this is so and if it is possible I would hope at some point to see a modded version of the Camera that makes it fully independent.

No, that is not so. I have nearly every Samsung component disabled, including S Voice, and I use the Samsung camera with no problem... maybe there's some feature in there that doesn't work that I've just never hit, but generally, the camera works fine on its own.
Voice Control of Camera, Incoming Calls, Camera and Music are all Dependant on SVoice

I tried a few hours ago, the camera freezes and crashes if you try to turn on voice commands in the camera settings. As long as this is not hit it works, but I hate that they would make the option to say "Shoot" to take a picture dependent on another app.

If they didn't do that than every app you mention would be twice the size because they would have to include the code for those options in each of the individual app.

Exactly, the S4 wasnt made for removing system apps or modifying the system. It was meant to be used the way it is out of the box which is why voice commands for music, camera, alarm and answering calls is dependant on S-Voice... easier to integrate dependancy unto another app versus integrating a sepaeare feature into every one of those lol

Ok, well, we have an interesting discrepancy here them... I just confirmed I have S Voice disabled... I then went into Camera, turned voice control on (it was off to start) and was able to take a picture by saying "Cheese"... no crash or anything, it worked as expected.
I also confirmed I can also still receive incoming calls... I don't use the music app and have it disabled so I didn't check that... so something doesn't jive with what you guys are apparently seeing. Maybe there's something else the camera specifically is dependent on and not S Voice *directly*?
For reference, here's what I currently have disabled... I think 2 or 3 of them I did through Titanium, the rest are just standard "system" disabled... I also have a few other things Greenified, but this is just what's outright disabled...

I moved the S-Voice apk out of the system folder when I tried it, I wouldn't think that it would make a difference versus freezing it though, but maybe that is possible? I didn't do a reboot when I tried, but I would think that if it had no relation to it, it shouldn't matter?
If I disable Svoice and try and take a pic with voice it force closes.

Galaxy Gear with HTC One

So I picked up a Gear about a week ago to pair with my HTC One. I thought if I couldn't get it to work I could give it to my wife to use with her S4 or I would pick up a Samsung phone. I would like to say I am very new with flashing roms or doing anything of the sort. So I started with doing a lot of searching on this site and reading up with how to flash the rom on the Gear to something that I could pair with the HTC One. I installed TWRP and got that working correctly when I boot the Gear into Recovery mode. What took awhile was getting the Null_23 Rom onto the Gear where I could install it. After trying to do it with ABD (and failing) I found a video that used Wonder Share. I went with this system. I paired the device with my wife's Samsung so I could enable Debugging mode, was able to pair the Gear with WonderShare and push the Null 23 Rom to it.
Went into recover, did a full wipe, then installed the Null 23 rom, rebooted unit, it ask if I want to use Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher, and a 3rd option that I can not remember at the moment. But The Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher icons are in the programs menu, I can use them at any time and change the layout of the home screen.
So after installing this Rom I am able to pair the Gear with my HTC One. Now on the Gear, I can answer a phone call, the caller ID works, I can sent the call to my phone to answer but I can not dial out to make a call from the Gear,Contact do not show up, Notifications do not work for text messaging, The seconds on the clock are correct but it will not link up in the correct time zone for the hours. Calender does not work. I can connect the Gear to the internet with pdaNET and the web browser will work. The Google Play Store ask me to log into or make a new account, but when I try to do either it stops working.
I have starting working on the notifications first, but haven't been able to get them to work correctly.
A short list of what works
Answering Calls
Clock keeps times, but has wrong hour, this is probably something simple but I haven't looked into it yet
Camera takes Pictures
pdaNET
Web Browser
Items I would like to work
Notifications,
Calender sync
Contact sync
Dial out to make call
I think if I can get these few functions to work that more will fall in line.
Thank you for any help
TyGeR
For notifications you should go with ATN Notifier, there are many threads on this issue.
For dialing out, it worked for me after syncing my Google contacts. Have you logged into your Google account? That should help, I guess. Same with Calendar sync, but this will use Internet access to be up to date and therefore drains your battery pretty quick.
I would also recommend to install Gear Manager (1.6XX) to use gear apps like runtastic, turn by turn navigation and so on. Check out Brendans Folder!
Good luck!

P20Pro and Samsung Gear S3 watch

Got my new P20Pro today - coming from a Mate 10 Pro. Love the phone and everything works great except the Samsung gear app and my Samsung Frontier S3 watch (AT&T LTE version). The app downloads and i can pair the watch and restore my watch settings but when i try to open Samsung pay the Samsung pay gear plug-in doesn't install and if i try to look at watch faces or apps, I get an error "this device does not support gear" - any idea how to fix/troublshoot this?
Hi, we are all in the same situation.
We have to wait for Samsung to update gear app
Look in this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/themes/galaxy-apps-huawei-p20-t3774050
Thanks for pointing out that post - I hadn't thought to look in the p20 forums. I guess we'll have to wait for Samsung to update the Gear app. In the meantime, I was able to use appsharer to move the Samsung pay framework and Samsung pay gear plugin from my mate10 pro to the p20pro and install them without any problems (just after install, you need to clear cache/storage on both apps to reset them) so I have Samsung pay working fine on my gear d3 connected to the p20 pro -just missing ability to download new apps/watchfaces

Cool, happy for you if everything work well except watchface, so if you still have your mate 10 pro can you share the mms.apk for messaging please
I tried to find it and couldn't. No messaging app appears in the list - i didn't root my phone so don't know where/how to find individual apk's. I wanted to move that one too as the p20 doesn't come with a stock messaging app (so i'm using textra)
Download Pay Plug in from the net and install and it will work.

Hi,
On your Samsung Gear S3 Frontier (WiFi only version), if Samsung Pay is not working after pairing with Huawei P20 Pro due to no Samsung Pay Plugin available in the app, here is how I managed to make it work.
If you already reset and paired your watch, you can skip to Step 4.
1. Hard reset your Gear S3 (Turn off, press and hold Power button until you see the logo don't release the Power button, seconds later you will see the logo and a blue colored 'rebooting', once you see it repeatedly press on Power button until you see the bios-like like menu, by pressing the Power button you can browse the menu, stop at 'recovery' and keep pressing the Power button then quickly press the Home button, your watch will restart to its factory settings).
2. Download and install Samsung Gear app on your phone, get it from Play Store. Once you open the app, it may ask to install two more required apps, Gear S Plugin and Samsung Accessory Service.
3. Pair your watch and phone. So far nothing fancy.
4. Download and install Samsung Pay using your phone from apkmirror (a security question will pop up asking to allow to install an app from a third party, just accept).
5. On your watch, press and hold the Home button to start Samsung Pay, this will ask you to continue setup on your phone.
6. On your phone, Samsung Pay will start and may state an updated version of Samsung Pay is available for you watch version, accept and it finish updating on your watch.
7. Start Samsung Pay as in Step 5. At this point, the app on your phone asks to set a passcode or pin on your watch for security.
8. You are all set now and can add your credit/debit cards as usual.
This is my first post and thank you for your support and for an amazing XDA app.

P20 pro & S3
Hello,
This thread is a few months old now, does anyone know if there has been an update Samsung’s end? Just taken delivery of P20 pro and want the S3 watch mainly for its offline Spotify feature. Don’t want to pay £250 if it won’t work. Not interested in android pay (as my bank isn’t supported) but do want texts and WhatsApp to work. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have had the p20 pro since shortly after release and have had no issues with it's relationship with my S3 (non lte), it works seemlessly.
I wasn't aware of any issues, I have only just stumbled across this thread.

Brilliant, thank you. I'll go and buy one then

Need help cracking Samsung VR app

As some of you know, Samsung not only stopped supporting Samsung VR, they actually sabotaged the app totally by not allowing new installs to open.
Essentially there is a user agreement that you have to agree to but it requires an “internet connection” to accept but this is the part which was sabotaged.
I believe that Samsung took the verification server offline so the app always thinks you are not connected.
I need someone to look into how that verification happens and how it can be circumvented.
As a backup, if anyone knows a SPECIFIC version of Samsung VR app which does not have this verification process (sideloaded) please post the version.
UP i need too please somebody help
anyone who has a samsung vr app backup via titanium backup please share
Only the old ones work without Internet connection. The last working one is Samsung VR 1.59.4.
Check here: android-apk.org/com.samsung.vrvideo/
It also works with the Oculus Go.
Can anyone test this with an Oculus Quest 2 ?
this is backup from titaniumbackup

Made a little progress....
I was playing around trying to get Gear VR to work on my new Galaxy S20 plus, I tried installing Occulus from the app store but when I plugged the phone into the GearVR nothing would happen, so I Extracted all the Occulus and GearVR apps from my old S9 into APK's and then sideloaded them onto my S20, and now when I plug it in, it tries to load the setup program but it comes up with an error saying I have no network connection.... is there any way around this?
hi,
i found workaround
1. uninstall Gear VR SetupWizard ( 3.2.03.9 )
2. install version ( 3.0.21 ) from aptoide : https://gear-vr-setupwizard.pl.aptoide.com/app
3. run setup, configure, upgrade to newest version
and it works

Hi. We have tried to put the 3.0.21 version on and it has installed on phone but don't know how to get it to link with the Gear VR (SMR325) . Anyone with suggestions?
Hi guys, does any one have the full package of apps - I also got a S20 and wanted to try with my old Gear VR R325 headset - it works finr with my Galaxy Note 9 but is not rooted so cant extract the APK's.

Just tried. It doesn't work. It installs fine, opens fine (no messages), shows that gridded floor pattern (of very old versions of Samsung VR) but nothing else happens (no buttons to click on, no nothing. Just void.
Did you find a way to make Samsung VR to work on Quest 2 ?

I have the APK for version 2.12.7 and it works fine in my Gear VR with Samsung Galaxy S7 (yes, the phone still works too).
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but it's not only the verification server they shut down. The whole online video server was shut down. So, I do see a "No internet connection" message, but I'm still able to click the other buttons and explore my local media folders using this app, which is exactly what I want to do.
However I was not able to port this version (or any other APK I found) to my Quest 2. The closest I got was to install an Oculus Go APK on the Quest 2, but when I open the app and the "No internet connection" message appears, my Quest 2 controllers are not recognized, so I can't click anywhere to browse my folders. Is that your issue too?
Anyways, I'm in desperate need of a Samsung VR APK that works with Quest/Quest 2. Please let me know if you come across this APK.
I have the same problem with my new Galaxy S10+ now. I cannot accept the terms and conditions in Samsung VR because it says "no internet connection". I tried with SIM and wireless also, but no luck.
I have a Galaxy S9+ too, there i accepted Samsung VR terms and conditions long before Samsung switched off the verification server. So on the S9+ i can still use Samsung VR.
Even tho I noticed in the recent months that on the S9+ it also says "no internet connection", but probably in the appdata folder is a flag or file which they check if you accepted their ToS. If thats not there you cannot go forward to the main menu of Samsung VR.
So I see only one way and this would be you need a Titanium Backup from the Samsung VR app where the ToS are already accepted. Then you also would need to root the new phone that you can install Samsung VR with app data right?
Or is there any way to inject appdata of Samsung VR to your new phone without having root access?
Someone tried that if that even works?

Can confirm that restoring app+data won't work.... at least the backup I found in this thread not.
Restored app+data in Titanium backup and still asks to accept terms with no internet connection..
Best regards,
Niels
I just fixed it, the app checks a txt file in the root Android\data\com.samsung.vrvideo folder. I made a zip file of that folder from my Galaxy S9+, it works at the S10+ too. Just copy that folder with the subfolders and the file inside to "Android\data\"
This folder is avaiable even without root. Even tho I dont see any content in that folder with the normal file manager on the phone, but once you plug your Galaxy to a regular PC you can access that Android/data folder.
So when you unzip it, the path to the file should look like this:
Android\data\com.samsung.vrvideo\files inside that folder 2 files: "VR360Video_3_00_0_EULA_agreed.txt" and "MVRI.txt"
My Samsung VR App now opens without that EULA message and works in offline mode.
Let me know if its working!

Great! Yeah I was surprised too, that no one else found it out before. I almost deleted it while resetting my S9+ but then I checked that Android/data folder lol...
I must be missing something here. Aside from the Android\data\com.samsung.vrvideo\files directory and associated files, what other apk's should be installed? I've installed the oculus app from the Play store and it still does not launch when I place my S21 into the Gear VR headset.
The play store oculus app does not work with gearvr. It has to be installed by the gearvr setup app.
can someone explain/walk me through the process like i'm 5. Just pulled out my gear vr for the first time in a year and am trying to get it to work with my old s9+ that had to be factory reset.

Question SmartTag: check location without phone?

Hi.
I got a SmartTag, which I can track in smartthings find in galaxy phone.
However, how can I track it without the phone?
Famsung's Find my mobile doesnt list it.
Windows SmartThings app list it as unsupported.
SmartThings API list it without any capability. (For ridiculous security concerns)
Do you by any chance know any way to use it even if I have my phone lost too (or left it home)?
