I did get a temp fix using vpn hotspot not something I want to keep perm but it will do til I find a perm fix
Did you find a fix for this yet? I seem to be having the same issue on my Pixel 2 XL. The net.tethering.noprovisioning=true code was working fine on Android 10 so, I went back to Android 10, but I really would like to update to Android 11 and keep the free hotspot option.
I should add that I am on Google FI. That might have been a reason why mine just worked.

Has anyone figured out how to automatically enable the wlan1 (essentially enabling the VPN portion of the solution,) automatically?
Anyone succeed with getting wifi tether up and running on android 11 ?
I have pixel 4 xl rooted and enabled the hotspot (at&t network). Other devices are able to connect to my hotspot but can’t make use of the internet
I tried to reset the APN and used different ones but nothing worked.

Should work fine if it is in your plan. If it is not in your plan, or you are pre-paid or using an AT&T MVNO, then you will probably need to use a module. Hotspot has always worked on my plan on every phone.

I'm trying to find a hotspot widget, specifically one that enables and disables the built in AT&T hotspot. Yes I do have this enabled and authorized by AT&T, it just would be nice to have a widget where I just press it and it toggles it on and off. I've tried several from the marketplace but none of them worked, they would try to verify and it looked like it would turn on for a split second, but then turn off.

I like power toggles.

A widget that tries to enable hotspot, but shuts down sounds like you're not able to tether, or haven't configured your hotspot yet. Are you able to enable hotspot thru the system settings?

Hmm that doesn't work either. It will say "Please wait while verifying" then nothing, and the hotspot isn't turned on. My hotspot is working and setup, I have named it and put in a password and I can manually go into settings-connections-tethering and portable hotspot and click it on and it turns on and off just fine.
Anyone else have trouble with this?

I wish, I'm one of the poor saps who upgraded to kitkat.
same issue here
Going to bump this because I have the exact same issue on a rooted galaxy s5. I used hotspots toggle Widgets on my s4 without issue for years, but that one typically had custom Roms. On the s5 I'm running rooted stock 4.4.2
I do have legal tethering with at&t, and use it frequently so if anyone has a fix I'd greatly appreciate the info.

i think theres root on kitkat now by geohotz. if you somehow root your phone, install Dynamic Kat, i has hotspot toggle on the quick settings, I use it all the time.
So I've been a longtime foxfi -> PDANet user and ever since 4.3 dropped I've lived without tether. It wasn't THAT big a deal for me since I tether in emergency situations only and they don't come up often but now that I'm on the S5 and root has dropped I realized it's time to get tethering as a backup working.
So my question is what's the current best wifi tether option for the S5 if you've rooted it? I don't mind paying for an app if there's no free version that does the same thing or just to support a good developer. I've found things like wifi tether:
https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
but every one I've found seems old and hasn't been updated in quite a long time.
Any feedback much appreciated.

Grandfathered unlimited with no option to use the built-in Mobile Hotspot without giving up the unlimited. I use MAYBE 500MB-1GB tethering a month and I'm not willing to give up unlimited for the ability to tether those rares times especially since pulling into the parking lot of a starbucks has worked for those emergencies in the last few months.

That WiFi tether is OK to use. The core system has not been updated in a while, but if you look into the project a little deeper, you will find that the S4 just received it's own configuration into the tether.
With the S5 recently obtaining root, I'm sure the configuration will be patched in soon.
I am using 3.4pre1 (experimental). There are only two issues I came across.
1) The Logging portion fails.
2) If you are connected to a wifi hotspot, then start wifi tether, you will loose the configuration for that specific SSID. Don't worry, though, as a reboot will fix this.
Also, I use the S4 device profile. It seems there is somewhat smoother operations with this.

I just tried that and it didn't seem to work for me. I got impatient and just bought Wifi Tether Router 6 (that $25 google play credit makes it hard to be patient). It seems to work but I had some issues when I was connected to Wifi when I started to initiate the tether and actually if I was even in a place where I had a signal for a saved wifi. Forgetting the wifi networks in my house and it worked which I guess is ok since I wouldn't ever be using it someplace where I had another Wifi to connect to.
But I wouldn't mind figuring out how to use wanam xposed to do it, if there's a way to.

FoxFi (paid version) is working fine on my N4. So is the proxy add-on.
My only question is How do I hide the hot spot activity from TMo? I have the top plan which includes 5gb of tethering data.
How do I test this and fix if necessary?

When I said "working" I meant it's producing a wifi signal. I have no idea which part of the plan it's pulling data through.
That's why I asked how I test (hotspot or data plan) and fix it.

correction:
FoxFi is NOT working to divert data from hotspot to data plan.
Even using the proxy feature, it still shows up as tethering in the My Account app.
It seems all FoxFi does is turn on the Tmo hotspot app.

So wifi won't work, but could anyone please verify that the Note 4 can at least be USB tethered to a PC with FoxFi and use T-Mobile mobile data, instead of tether data? I've searched all over and saw no one specifically verifying this with TMO, even though FoxFi generally says it's possible. I don't have a Note 4 or TMO yet to test myself, and prefer to stay unrooted so all the other options I've seen wouldn't fly. I'd probably barely go over 20GB in a month.
If USB tethering does properly hide it as mobile data, I wonder if it'd be possible to USB into a wifi router. I saw someone on Reddit doing that, but it wasn't a Note 4 and there was no specific hiding of tethering as it just used android's baked in tethering.
I've never used FoxFi before so if anyone could help with the following questions I'd appreciate it too:
1. If I have to use USB to PC, could I still use my phone for calls/texting/etc at the same time? Same question if FoxFi WiFi was eventually supported for N4?
2. While USB tethered to PC would my phone also be charging?
3. If I can USB into my PC, could I create WiFi from there in some way?
Thank you for any help!
Just coming back to update that yes you can use FoxFi to USB tether to your PC and have the internet useage be recognized as mobile data. Just need to put PDAnet on your PC. It does charge the phone at the same time, though extremely slow compared to fast charging. I've texted at the same time and used my phone in other ways as well.
Hello all,
Recently i went to make a hotspot for my cars radio since the WIFI antenna doesn't get a good signal and i did not have the option to share WIFI. The only way i would be able to make a hotspot was to add it to my plan.. Which im not gonna do obviously since i only use it very often... Was this feature removed? I'm running Android 10 on ATT. It worked a few weeks ago... Any help?

if youre running stock firmware, it doesnt shock me that your providers CSC locked out the native wifi sharing. If you flash the U1 firmware for your device (ubranded, directly from Samsung) then youll have that option again. I did that exact same thing on my S9

yes, you have to turn off wi-fi before you can run your own hotspot, it probably just did it without alerting you to it before. These devices only have 1 wifi radio and it cant use one wifi while producing its own also
here is the U1 firmware should you decide to flash it. doesnt sound like its strictly necessary as others might have found a solution for you, but here it is anyways

Since the most recent Samsung update I haven't been able to use hotspot either. I'm hoping to find a way to downgrade.
I had this forever on Android 10, but I lost it with the betas and official Android 11. With the lastest tetheringenabler Magisk module, I can connect my laptop, but no internet is available. Eventually the hotspot turns off. I can easily switch to Google Fi, and hotspot works great.
Does anyone have an idea on how I can accomplish this? I'm willing to play with the build.prop module, etc. When I check my APN settings, 'dun' is not listed. Of course it's greyed-out.
My plan has unlimited international data, and does not allow for tethering to be applied. This is a huge deal to me.
Thanks!

I did find the app "VPN Hotspot," which does get tethering working. Like you said, it feels a bit clumbsy in its current implementation -- more of a temporary workaround. I spent a while yesterday trying to automate portions of it with Tasker, shell, and other methods. So far, no dice. The github project has a LOT of requests asking basically the same thing.
The closest thing to seamless right now is to trigger the monitor mode in the app, (which you can only do while wlan1 is active,) then when you toggle the global hotspot, it will re-enable the wlan1 portion every time. This does not survive reboots, so you'd have to use some kludgy tasker automations to open the app and click the screen for first-run on each boot.
