Rog kunai 3 - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

Has anyone bought it yet, and if they have where from.
Thanks

hard luck! A very slow development in terms of Accessories & android too!

I've purchased 3 times from ali express and ebay . 1st time in August its was supposed to be shipped by 9/5. Ali express auto cancels purchases that arent shipped by 15 days. Seller said delays and will be in stock next 1-2weeks so repurchased but nothing. Canceled that one and purchased on ebay because seller advertising like it was in stock " Only 2 left!" Deliver by 10/15 no mention of pre order items. I messaged seller to be sure but no response and was down to 1 left so pulled trigger and he STILL doesn't have it as of 10/26. Ps4 pro controller and Xbox x controllers work with key mapping software but its almost uncontrollable with it and was using ps4 with panda pro app for key mapping and it was playable but huge headache because u have to use usb debugging program from a computer to activate it every time you use. I have a Flydigi Apex controller that I use now and its the best option by far as a controller with it. If your looking for a Nintendo switch type setup im not sure? I do know all the Flydigi products work with the key mapping software you download from Google play for free and easy to use and alot of customizable features like macros and back buttons, trigger locks blah blah but app doesn't crash and the movement and control with the Flydigi apex is unmatched with all the things I've tried. Has its own debugging tool so games won't even know controller is being used. Wired, Bluetooth, and comes with 2.4hz dongle and phone clip. Find them from 40 to 60 bucks. Cant beat it with a stick because Asus doesn't have a release date yet for the Kunai 3 and with all these delays the first batch for sire will probably be full of bugs and issues. Hope it helps

I ordered mine from Giztop back in September. They just emailed me yesterday informing me the my Kunai 3 will ship out this week.

I got mine on AliExpress the seller has assured me it will be shipped this coming week I am quite excited to try it , YouTube reviews have been amazing.

Hello, I have a question regarding Kunai 3.
I am using my Kunai 3 in handheld mode (bumper), and mainly playing a third person survival game (Dawn of Zombies). I have successfully mapped buttons as the default buttons didn't suit me.
My issue (not really big) is that when I tilt the stick and then release it, the character will "tilt" toward a different direction. Looks like the stick sensitivity is too high, but I am not sure if that is the culprit. The thing is this issue doesn't occur when I use default mapping.
Is there a way to configure stick sensitivity? Also, when I set directions, how big should the stick tray on screen be? Should it match the game one? By tray I mean the circle around the stick, i.e. the space where stick will tilt when moving it. Any suggestions is highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Game-gripper

Available for the Droid & Milestone: The game-gripper. The accessory for the game fan with a Motorola Milestone/Droid
Quote from the review by engadget:
We love an innovative fix to a problem, and so were immediately smitten by the Game Gripper when we saw it in action

Making use of the game-gripper in your game is easy: The only thing you need are custom key bindings.

Good accessory, nice idea but ... 15€ + shipping IT'S A BIT EXPENSIVE!!! Dont you think? I mean, (correct me if im wrong) I know this is the only accessory of its kind but still there are products that should be more expensive than this and ... THEY ARE CHEAPER!!! (Batteries, covers, holders, chargers, etc).
I mean if it were like 8€ + shipping or 10 total, I could understand. Is it me or anyone else feel the same way, specially on these times of crisis?
Feedback people. Thanks ^_^
Yeah, I agree, it's too expensive. If it were €5, I would've gotten it for sure. €10, maybe, but €20 is simply too much.
Me and a friend got a game gripper and it really makes the Milestone/Droid a lot better
With the game gripper all the emulators are really playable, the onscreen joysticks never really work well and the directional pad on the Milestone is on the wrong side and very hard to do diagonals with it without clicking it down...
I really love the game gripper, will it also be available for the Samsung Epic 4G?
Any chance that you'll follow up with the Droid2 (Milestone2 or D2WorldEdition) ??
How about the HTC Desire Z (T-mobile G2) ??
If you guys have decided, when can we realistically expect shipment?
Thank you, and I hope you choose both (so that you can have more money, yay)
edit:
I got confirmation that there will be a gg for the Droid2 and this will be compatible with the Milestone2 and Droid2 World Edition.
They say it would be available about 1 month and that it will be a better quality gg that's more durable than the original, so this is definently exciting. On another note, they are currently considering the HTC Desire Z, if that phone is a success/demand for a gg is high, they say they will also support it ... hope that helps fellow internet travellers
IMO, it was worth the $15. I love it. Just got it about 2 weeks ago and have been using it constantly with my emu's on the Droid1. Even my son loves playing with it. He thinks of it as a Nintendo DS.
Come on, guys, this is not expensive at all. I bet many of you spend more on your cases.
Agreed. Game Gripper is awesome. Totally worth the few bucks.

Just ordered it on Wednesday...and I got a shipment confirmation on Thursday...I'm waiting for it...They said it would get to me in a couple of days...I will let you know my opinion once is here....
The game gripper arrived in 10 days....I believe that 15 euros + 5 shipping wasnt that much... This accessory is great... Works perfect with super nintendo games like Super Mario World...
Which SNES Emulator is best for use with the game gripper?
I have the game gripper for my Epic 4g, and I have Snesoid as my emulator. I'm a little frustrated because It doesn't seem to work for going in diagonal directions. (up + left, down + right, etc) This makes playing games very difficult when I can't pust in those directions. Things like Techmo Bowl are unplayable.
Is there an SNES emulator that is better than others?
Am I missing some way of configuring the input so the game gripper works better?
thanks!
Bryce
The last I saw of this thing, it was sold out. I had forgotten about it until I saw this thread and I plan on getting one.
Just a question for those who've used it for an extended period of time. Does it seem to wear down your keyboard buttons at all (as in the letters), or is it pretty soft on them?
Does this stuff shipping world wide?

They seem to ship world wide which is nice.
Personally though, I wouldn't get it because I don't want to carry around an addon just to play games on the go.
I have one, and it really improoves emulators experience, would love to have support from some android games as well...
But, it is not perfect:
1 - I would love to have more distance between buttons, they are too close to each other....
2 - It would be great if it did wrap around the shoulders of the phone back, so it would not slide down as you play. I have to reposition it after few minutes playing.
Other than that, it is the best solution out there for Milestone/Droid.

Agreed.
It's not confortable to play games like Super Mario World, when u have to maintain the "Y" button pressed to run and press "B" to jump, because these buttons are really close.
And the GGripper slides after a few minutes.
Anyone found a way to "ease" the buttons on the game gripper? I find them kinda hard and it hurts depending the game i'm playing.
I was thinking about doing some moding using PS1 buttons, anyone thinks it'll work?

Bluetooth Keyboard Case Review

Here is my review for those considering to buy one.
Typing on the Galaxy Tab has been a pleasure especially when using Thumb Keyboard, but there are moments when a physical keyboard is needed. When I am sitting in lecture and I want to take notes with my Tab using the onscreen keyboard, the Professor may think that I am texting in class. This not only leads to unnecessary embarrassments, if he or she calls me out in front of the other students, but also makes note-taking inefficient; I type slower with the onscreen keyboard than with a regular keyboard. I resorted to carrying around my full sized Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad with me so I could take notes and navigate the Tab more efficiently but alas, it led to people constantly staring at me because of my awkward setup and as you would imagine, portability was an issue as well. What’s a guy to do? Luckily I found a solution, a bluetooth keyboard within a case! Check out my video review after the break:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4srLChySYio
Overall Impressions:
The bluetooth keyboard/case has been a tremendous productivity tool. I’ve managed to type this review in its entirety with the keyboard and it has been a great experience. As I mentioned in the video review, there is a slight learning curve to it but after that, you will be typing as fast as you do on a normal keyboard. The battery life is exceptional! I have been using this keyboard on and off for about 4 days now have yet to plug it in to charge it. This keyboard, coupled with a few other apps, makes typing long emails and controlling the entire tab easy and intuitive. It’s now a pleasure to sit on Google Talk and chat with my friends and have long conversations with them using this keyboard; it feels natural. So if you are in the market for a portable keyboard for your Galaxy Tab and want to save yourself the embarrassment of carrying around a full-sized keyboard in your backpack, then go ahead and pick up one for yourself. I think with the perfect sized bluetooth mouse, you basically get a mini netbook. Prices due vary ($40-$90) so shop around. I recommend using ebay or google shopping to get the best deals. Just search for Galaxy Tab Bluetooth Keyboard Case! If your in a rush to get one, here’s one from Brando.com.
Recommended apps to use with this keyboard (Available on the Android Market):
-BlueKeyboard Pro: allows you to hide the standard keyboard when you are typing with the keyboard connected.
-Widget Locker: great for getting the homescreen in portrait mode and for waking/unlocking the Tab by using the back button on the keyboard
-Task Switcher: AMAZING tool used to program quick keys to launch your favorite apps as well switching between them. Much better than holding down the home button.
If you have recommendations for a good bluetooth mouse, leave a comment or email me at [email protected]!
From the Tab.

Nice review! Glad I ordered one...seems just right for on the go!
Thanks for the review, its been 3 weeks I've ordered from brando, the package already left hongkong..but when I tracked in australia, the package still not in yet..
Why is it take long time??
Mine was shipped to Canada Feb 21st and just entered customs on March 8th. I guess shipping takes awhile.
Those app tips are very helpful OP.
Finally arrived so I did an unbox video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1FvXRajZUU Glad I got it.
Great review. I ordered one before my tab turned up and had an initial knee-jerk that I didn't like it. After using it for some IM though, I absolutely love it. I was lucky enough to pick one up from Amazon for £25, with free delivery, which is the cheapest I could find it.
It really does turn a big phone into a netbook.
Also, I've not got any 3rd party apps to suppress the keyboard. I just press the keyboard "go away" button when relevant.
If anyone is questioning getting one of these then I'd strongly recommend it. I've only had my tab for just over a day and this thing has already given it a new lease of life!

FWIW, I ordered mine from Brando back in February (10th, I think) and just got it today (22-March).
Nice find on task switcher, makes having the keyboard 10x better
Found a better app for the soft keyboard replacement, check out null keyboard.

lapdock 500

Im going to purchase the lapdock 500. The reviews on the 100 seem so-so, so Im hoping that the 500, being more xpensive, is higher quality, and works better. anyone have the 500, or expirence with both that they can share?
I can't provide a review yet, but it's on sale for $150 right now!!
I got this from slickdeals:
1. Go to Verizon’s site.
2. Click the big “Shop” button up top.
3. When the page loads, scroll down and click “View All” next to Accessories.
4. Click on the “DROID 4.”
5. LapDock 500 should be the first option, simply click “Add to Cart” from that page.
6. Go straight into your cart and you should see it for $149.99 rather than the $249.99.
7. Checkout and enjoy.
Good luck.
I ordered it from Amazon for $349, sooooo when I saw that deal, I about crapped! Gut on Verizon, ordered one, and have the one from Amazon all boxed and ready to go back!
For what it's worth, it's very nice, high quality, so I can't wait to get the new one here and start playing!

So, I finally got mine.
The performance is ok... kind of like using a netbook. I wish the camera would work. Also, playing youtube is a little choppy. Perhaps it's not hardware accelerated or anything.
Does anyone know if there is any work being done on the webtop 3rd party people? Is there supposed to be an update for that soon???
So IMHO, if you are on the fence for getting this, I would vote NO.
I bought this for $150 during the recent sale and was very excited, especially because I denied on the Atrix lapdock deal in Dec. for $50.
Anyway, as noted earlier, the screen is not very good. I tried to watch streaming video and it not pleasant. The bad "refresh" rate or something resulted in a sort of jittery show. That defeated my primary purpose.
The touch pad was also poorly implemented. Pressing it often moved the cursor.
Another factor although not a huge one was the software/interface was not that intuitive or impressive. I'm sure that would have improved over time (updates and my own experience) but the effort didn't seem worth it. The device is also somewhat heavy. For $50, I might have kept it, but for $150 just wasn't worth it.
Good news, I returned it at the Verizon store without any restock fee or hassle.
I am thrilled that I got the 500 during the Verizon $150 deal. The 500 makes using the Bionic for any lengthy amount of time quite usable. It is not meant to be a substitute for a laptop or netbook. I feel it perfectly complements the Bionic by extending the capabilities of the phone. I would advise using a mouse with the 500.
I've had mine now for 2 days and have done nothing but mess around with it and honestly..imho i love it! Yea the sd card, ethernet, camera and monitor out dont work but there is an update so the bionic can use the 500 to the fullest so thats great news..there are as many cons as there are goods but the cons will get fixed thru updates except for the touchpad..that really did suck..but all else is great..the screen could be better but its still great..
Cons- cant use the pull out dock idk why just doesnt work well which has to do with the software so a update fix
Touchpad sucks- use mouse
Camera, ethernet, sd card and monitor out functions dont work YET but will soon
Phone has to sit flat and cant be moved or the lapdock will shut down- dont know why but once again an update fix
Pros- everything...surf internet fast, play your games on lapdock from phone, make calls from lapdock, 7 hours battery life, charges phone while using lapdock, good speakers, nice screen and just a lot if fun...better than carrying a heavy full on laptop for simple things...one of the better investments in my life funny thing is that i also got mine for 150$ but thru CL and brand new still sealed..the guy had no clue how much this thing was actually worth!
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
how would you compare it to the Bionic branded lapdock itself (anyone test out both of these)? i'm assuming all the missing functionality you speak of now is simply a USB device driver to be implemented in future patches..
IMO the lapdock can essentially replace your last full sized laptop, assuming your not a hardcore gamer, audiophile, A/V troll etc lol. i am all of the above, but seriously if your using a laptop for all that get a tower ffs. screen is acceptable, viewing angle is so so, webtop itself is unimpressive but 3.0 will change all that. only complaint is the keyboard, keys feel like cheap plastic and aren't very sensitive.

[Q] Have any former Note 3 owners who JUMPed to the Note 4 regretted doing so?

Hey everyone (particularly those I previously interacted with in the - now much less active - Note 3 forum )
My fist post in this forum signifies... pretty much a complete 180 wrt my interest in the Note 4, altering it from "ehh, no thanks" to "I wonder if the Tmo store down the street has any in stock?"
First, my current Note 3: I freaking love it, easily my #1 fav out of the many phones I've owned. It's running Tweaked 3.9, leanKernel 3.11.3 and themed with @cbucz24's B&W Tweaked theme and a sick themed stock Samsung keyboard that he made. Run's like a dream (Antutu benchmarks always in the mid 40k's with an all time high of about 47.5K), Nova Prime, any otherwise heavily customized software-wise (most significant example: I've basically totally altered the stock S pen function via GMD S-pen / no auto Air Command, but launch-able via GMD and significant progress towards my goal of doing literally anything (access obscure settings / direct dial, etc.) just by scribbling a path on the screen. Also, froze flashbar service, replaced with sidebar launchers of Flppr - access pre-configured widgets, divided into categories, from ANY screen via swipe gestures (awesome in general, but particularly useful for "remotes" such as Smart Remote, Yatse, Ultimate Remote...), OmniSnitch (grabbed from the ROM flashed on my "week or so NEW" Note 10.1 2014, T-mo lte variant (p607t, which is actually just a carrier branded P605 - international lte variant, thus completely compatible with p605 ROMs :good, and PIE. Last example (maybe most significant) example, replaced Pen Window, which is rather slow, clunky, and functionally limited AND split window with the far superior XHalo module. Really the only "native" function that I use is handwriting recognition, which IMO works amazingly well). Also, I'm pretty good storage-wise, with the 32GB internal, a 64GB external (must have root app: FolderMount!) AND a few of those tiny USB / USB OTG drives - two of them being USB 3 / 64 GB (but the first Corsair one I got was "misplaced" (read: very likely lost forever) - replaced it with the equivalent Patriot drive which has the fastest transfer speeds I've EVER seen on a flash drive, but via PC USB 3 and phone micro usb 2! Oh, last thing, tons of accessories, most of which incompatible with the Note 4 (ex. cases... so many cases! and a micro USB 3 4 port hub).
So while, having the 'old' JUMP program and not yet using it, it makes more "sense" to trade my Note 3 for a 4, then do the same when this period of "transitional" phone releases passes, and the 64-bit "phone of my dreams" (yes, to confirm, phone ownership CAN affect sleep ) becomes available. However, given my exceptional "fondness" for my N3 & it's extensively customized tweaks, I am somewhat concerned about ditching it for its (currently, at least) less customizable successor.
Keeping my N3 AND getting an N4 really is not an option - I don't really have the cash to buy it straight up, and wouldn't be particularly compelled to if I did. However, having the 'old' JUMP, which I haven't yet used, I feel like, logically, I should go for upgrade 1 of 2 / year, and swap the N3 for a 4, which would be sort of a "transitional" device, until something that I NEED to have released.
SO Note 4 owners (JUMPers... first and last time I'll ever be using that adjective ), where any of you in a similar situation, but decided to go for it anyways? Are you happy to have done so? Any regrets?
Last (any peripheral) question: is anyone aware of the current availability of the N4? Is it typically available in stores yet (particularly in Chicago - the store near me is in Lincoln Park on Clark, if I have any neighbors around here )? Or is the best (fastest) way to JUMP via ordering online (if so, would it be a pre-order and if so, how long of a delay should be expected?) I do know a really cool / helpful guy at the T-mo store (who I talked EXTENSIVELY about root etc., explicitly making sure the new tablet wasn't locked down before buying it, and even straight up asking him if he thought that it would be cool to flash alternative firmware on my new deposit-less AC1900 if I flashed it back to stock before returning it, to which he surprisingly responded "yeah, I'm pretty sure that's fine"!) so he could possibly help me out if availability is still an issue (he also ordered a LTE booster, sent to my house, since I told him I wanted both but was told I could only have one or the other shipped. Paid the deposit for that one, but just got tracking info: delivery date = tomorrow )
So I can / plan to roll by the store to check it out, but just wondering if anyone has bought / ordered one recently and has any info re: current availability.
Really looking forward to discussing / exploring the mod potential for this device with you all! Thanks in advance - mostly hoping to resolve the matters that are making me hesitant to JUMP over to this device and it's MUCH more active discussion :good:
For me, the Note 4 is everything I've ever wanted in a phone (minus dual front facing speakers, but oh well)
I LOVED my Note 3. LOVED it. It was hands down the best device I've ever owned. Until now. I didn't use my JUMP (even though I have JUMP 1.0) kept the Note 3 so I could give it to my friend who would never be able to afford a beastly phone like that.
The Note 4 is the best phone money can buy right now (IMHO). No regrets, and I got it on release day. I baby it and it already has a couple of minor scratches on the aluminum bezel but I could care less. I never dropped it, ever, and I'm ultra careful with my phones (the Note 3 is still flawless, I mean literally looks brand new). So keep that in mind, you will get scratches on the bezel, but honestly even with that, still THE best phone in the world.
That tweaked 3.9 is a GREAT rom, but the note4 is an all around better device. Battery life, camera focus speed, processor speed (once tweaked a little), and the s-pen does function better.
And that fast charger makes anything else obsolete. Charging to 75-90% in 1hr is just crazy.
Screen is pretty nice too
I was pretty bummed about the rear speaker, and the non wolfson dac, but I guess only a few media people even care about sound quality lol.
If it's a stretch money wise, just skip this iteration, it's improved but not mind blowing
Hey thanks a lot man! Just called the store, and the guy made it pretty clear that online order was the way to go (specifically, they had one white one at 6PM Thurs., and he said it'd likely be gone within 10 mins!) Additionally, with the online JUMP, I have 30 days to give my N3 a :crying: proper goodbye  )
I'm going to go ahead and find + order a case (slim but protective w/ built in port covers / tempered glass saver. Would welcome recommendations on that :highfive:

Ah yes, the speaker; meant to address that. Placement / quality of a device's speaker(s) is probably the lowest priority criteria for device selection. By that I mean, if I'm doing anything on the phone where I care about sound quality (media, gaming (occasionally, but not usually), pretty much anything aside from ring / notification tones) I'm going to be connecting either headphones, APTX BT speaker, or even my 7.1 AVR. Any of those is going to produce better sound than even the best built in speakers on any mobile device, for which I would do the same. The lack of the Wolfson DAC is a drag or rather a "wtf sammy".
Situation seems to be that N4 is unquestionably "better" overall than the N3, and I basically have the choice of walking around with one or the other in my pocket, or burning 1/2 JUMP upgrades. Now that development for this phone has picked up, it seems to me that grabbing an N4 vs. holding onto my N3 would be an "emotional rather than logical" decision.
When you get your phone, you will love it. I switched from an AT&T S3 to this T-Mobile N4. A tad pricey, but oooh so worth it. I've wanted a Note phone for years and I finally have one. I'm tempted to root and tweak but worried about tripping Knox and any unforseen warranty hassles.
Anyway, glad you love your N3. Hope the N4 is everything you want it to be.

Really looking forward to discussing / exploring the mod potential for this device with you all! Thanks in advance - mostly hoping to resolve the matters that are making me hesitant to JUMP over to this device and it's MUCH more active discussion :good:

Cool story bro. So cool I couldnt finish it.
Yup
I thought i was the only one,
The UI feels a bit clunkier And the battery life isnt nearly as good for me as a heavy user i could get almost a full day and a half, on the note 4 i might get barely a day same use.
If i couldve taken the note 3 software multi window UI and put it in the note 4 body it would be the perfect phone.

I have to agree. Turned my note 3 on last night to play with it and it's smooth. Still on stock rooted and animation is smoother with less lag.
Battery on my note 4 i would say lasts 15% less. I've only disconnected my phone for 5 hours with 2:15 screen time and I'm already at 55%. I'm losing about an hour total screen time compared to my note 3.

Yes, Note 4 is worth the JUMP....
I loved my Note 3, but I love my Note 4 more.
There are only two things that I miss about my Note 3.
Temperature sensor
Humidity sensor
If none of these matter to you, the Note 4 is a no brainer. Even if those things mattered to you (like it matters to me ) the Note 4 is still a no brainer.
Those are great AnTuTu benchmakrs for the Note 3, but the SD800 in the N3 is no comparison to the N4 SD805. If you look in my sig, I've hit 50K+ on stock kernel running FireKatv2.
JUMP on over! :good:

General Using the Mi 11 Ultra instead of a laptop

Hi All
This isn't rocket science, but thought I would pass on something I've been working on.
My Ultra has more ram, more storage and a better processor than my laptop along with 5x the battery life. So... I wanted to use it to work on the train and needed to print labels and stuff envelopes.
I bought a Zebra ZQ310 which is a very nice battery powered Bluetooth receipt/label printer. The printer is brill, but the Zebra Android software on Play is very old, but works.
I bought AndropenOffice Pro for £7.99 which I really like, it's got a mouse icon at the bottom and pressing it offers an area of the screen at the bottom as a touchpad, but for me,I bought a Jelly Comb Bluetooth trackball which is easier for me and won't take up too much area on the table. And, significantly it's much lighter than my old clunky laptop with a spare battery.
I bought the pro version of andropen Office as you can't print with the free version. My original idea was to use Google Print but that was jettisoned in December last year.
The only irritation with this is I bought it from the Amazon appstore and it requires you are running appstore and be signed into it to use andropenoffice. This is irritating as I'm guessing they are harvesting my personal data at the same time.
Any road up, Noroot firewall sorted that out. The appstore app is now blocked and andropenoffice seems to work just fine.
The combination of AndropenOffice and the Zebra printer work very well. I can print text, fonts and graphics and it's all fine.
For the keyboard, I've bought one of those PU leather wallets with an integral Bluetooth keyboard (see pic) so it ends up quite like a laptop.
This morning I processed half a dozen orders and printed address labels and it works well. It takes a little getting used to, with the small screen and occasional large windows that need dragging around but I'll stick with it and see how I get on.
Although our local trains often have Internet and mains power, you can't guarantee it so I've got an 18650 power bank which will charge the phone and the printer which, conveniently, is USB-C.
Although there are many more apps for Windows, I'm going to push ahead and see how far I can go. I use paint.net quite a bit on the laptop, so if anyone knows an equivalent for Android, please let me know.
Oops uploaded an Amazon joke too,so enjoy....
Cheers
Steve
You bought a 1500$ cellphone and can't afford a decent laptop to get your job done?
Get your priorities straight.
I disagree. This phone is powerful enough to comply with all his needs, what's the point to spend money on a laptop? The only reason he should buy one is the use of Windows
Hi @vagelis199 are you having a bad day or are you this rude all the time? I explained my reasons so try reading the post again lol. I Paid $1000.00 for my phone so I think you may have been stung lol.
I already have a laptop, but it's heavy to lug around and my phone is always with me.
I program PIC chips from time to time. I don't think there is anything for Android but that would be a real bonus for me.
Anyone know of a decent paint program for Android?
Cheers
Steve
Well, the keyboard/case arrrived and it works well (see pic).
The keyboardi s removable and very thin. It atttaches to the case with integral magnets. The only gotcha is it's a US keybaord so shift-3 is # and not £.
Need to find a good key re-mapper or save the £ symbol in a text file.....
Cheers

What mouse is that?
Hi @lortwarCECH
Glad you like it. With the latest generation of phones, I'm finding myself moving more towards the phone than the laptop. It's a bit of a learning curve, but processed a dozen orders today in no time.
Hi @22naresn it's Jelly Comb track ball Model MT50:
MT50 Trackball Mouse
Trackball Mouse: an amazing alternative to traditional mice, allows you to navigate the cursor through your thumb Ergonomic Design: minimize arm & wrist movements, reduce muscle strain, and relieves RSI (repetitive strain injury)Bluetooth4.0 & 2.4G Wireless: connect up to 3 devices...

It's a piece of cake to use. It just fell off the arm of a chair and bust a plate on the floor and the ball popped out. Hope I didn''t break it sod the plate!
Cheers
Steve
Update: No tracker balls were harmed in this post. The ball popped back in just fine so life is good. The plate bits are in the bin.
It has a USB-C charging port so that's convenient. I forgot to turn it off (that's the issue with BT devices) and left it on all night. In the morning it worked just fine. Dunno what the battery life is, but it seems pretty good.
Cheers

Just a little more background on this as it's been quite a long journey then I'll stop droning on
The first printer I bought for this project was a Milestone MHT-L5801 here:

And it really is a piece of junk. The plastic clip that holds the platen roller in place broke very quickly and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. One issue was the blutooth range which was about 3 inches lol. I almost had it working, then it started printing very light, with parts of the text missing, Cleaning the head with an IPA wipe made no difference.
I contacted Milestone initially by email and got no reply to my first email or chasers then facebook and they said they would send me new firmware by email. Nothing arrived and when I chased them, they just said 'sorry'. Chased them again and they jsut said sorry again, but no firmware.
So, poor mechanical design, crap firmware with zero support.
Next up was a Zebra LP2824 printer here:
LP 2824 Desktop Printer Support & Downloads | Zebra
Find information on the Zebra LP 2824 Desktop Printer drivers, software, support, downloads, warranty information and more.
www.zebra.com
I bought it for 30 quid on eBay and Zebra printers are good quality. They are designed for use in warehouses etc. It's a desktop printer which makes it a bt heavy to lug around, but it *just works* and there are plenty of spares for it on Aliexpress so it can be maintained.
The power supply is 19v, like most laptops and I bought a USB/19v power bank from aliexpress which works using 18650 batteries here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32619062806.html
The power bank powered the printer just fine and next up was to connect the RS232 port to a bluetooth dongle so the it would be transformed form a desktop printer which was battery powered with bluetooth.
I bought a couple of Bluetooth modules, but coudn't get them to work, then I saw an eBay ad with a guy selling the ZQ310 printers cheap (£100.00) which are designed to be portable (battery powered and Bluetooth) so bought one.
Now the desktop LP2824 is on my desk.
As mentioned earlier the Android software is very old and a bit scrappy, but it seems to work.
I didn't want to use some random labelling software, all I wanted was to be able to print from Open Office and I could then print anything. With Andopenoffice, this all works well and I can print text, fonts and graphics so job's a good 'un.
It's been a labour of love (and hate!) but now everything works fine.
I'm going to email Microchip and see if they are considering producing an Android compiler for their PIC chips. I guess they will think I'm nuts, but if I could program PICs on the train my life would be complete lol.
Ok I'll stop banging on now
Cheers
Steve
And finally (Ithink) here it is cast to a PC monitor using an Amazon Firestick
With the phone running andropenoffice
The firestick plugs into the HDMI port on the monitor and you go to:
Home/Settings/Display/Enable mirroring and it works like a dream
See attached pic.

Why do you care what others do?
It looks a bit bizarre tbh but if it works for you and you have good eyesight go for it
I would guess a 14" laptop would be miles more productive but the phone is surely powerful enough to be a workhorse if necessary
Hehe I just got on abit of a roll and wanted to see what could be done. My eyesight is crap but I have good glasses and you can always zoom a web page.
I must admit, I like the laptop better, but for long battery life on a train with no Internet, USB or mains power, the phone is a good substitute. It takes a bit of getting used to, but my speed is improving daily.
You're right - it's a flippin' powerful computer and so small
Cheers
Steve
I have tried using large phones with Bluetooth mouse and keyboard cases for a long time. Every time I realized Android cannot replace desktop OS. Multi-tasking in Android is painfully slow, whatever you use, split-screen or free size windows, and whichever OS version, I have tried from android 6 to 10. Nevertheless, if you are keen on trying here is some setup I have used
Tablet autofit cases: http://amazon.com/ZAGG-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Android-Tablets/dp/B00IBW5XWY, it has a spring holder, tablet just fits snugly in the top shell. it becomes a foldable laptop-like device.
This used to come in 7 inches, 8 inch, and 10-inch compatible sizes. I used this with Huawei mediapad X1/X2, Mediapad M3 8.4
I then got this mouse Logitech t630. It's a very small slim mouse with a touch surface.
When I moved to a little less wider phone, due to unnecessary skewing of display aspect ratios (16:10 -> 18:9 -> 19:9 -> 20:9), the Zagg autofit keyboards no longer fit the phones even of 7+ inch diagonal.
I have Huawei mate 20x most recently. For this phone, I use this keyboard and Logitech T630 mouse as mentioned above.
Another trick to try is to add custom keyboard shortcuts from accessibility -> switch access.
Hi @bark1234
Thanks for all the useful info. Although my speed with the setup described isn't yet as fast as a laptop, I'll be doing 5 hour train journies, so any time I can use fruitully is good. Some eBay pages don't seem to scroll or zoom so that's an irritation, particularly when giving feeback.
I guess time will tell. I will either eat if for breakfast or pull my hair out lol. Fun project though
Cheers

Just a quick update on this. I've been using Andropenoffice to print labels to a Zebra battery label printer for some time. My speed has improved and now prefer my mi 11 ultra to a laptop. I got caught out with the A12 update as I bought andropenoffice from the Amazon Appstore which doesn't support A12 yet. The options were Update or Quit, but update didn't work so it broke Andropenoffice. Good 'ole Amazon. On the ball (asleep at the keyboard) as usual.
Anyway, rather than grab a pen, I bought Andropenoffice again, but this time from the Play Store. Works great lol.
So in summary, nice small phone to process my orders, but problems with software compatibilty just like a PC.
Some days I really like being an early adopter and other days....
Cheers
Steve
I bought a mi pad 5 pro
It actually feels faster than the mi 11 ultra somehow
Maybe because it has more space for cooling down the chip etc
The battery life is great and it's super smooth
Might be a better productivity device because it is designed for a keyboard and mouse and pen etc but I just wanted to use some apps on a bigger screen and it's great
