Hi all,
I have searched to no avail, hopefully this is OK to ask and is the right place to ask it?
I have resigned myself to purchasing a new phone as it appears that my knowledge and expectations are lacking and not correct. Therefore I am looking at the or at least the most popular phone(s) that are supported with custom ROM's as I really want to be left alone and not have a $399 Leather Ikea Sofa follow me around 24/7.
What I would like to know is the following:
1. Does this phone have custom Rom support? Or is it popular enough for this type of support or customization.
2. I basically dislike all the carriers due to them shoving their bloatware, privacy invasion down my throat. I would happily pay for apps that work without tracking me and couches following me around.
3. I have Tmobile, intend on getting the phone through Tmobile, are there reasonably easy ways to Unbloat the phone, have admin rights on the phone, deal with privacy issues, and most importantly get updates all simultaneously? I know that once you Root any Android phone the God Carriers will no longer allow ANY updates to work. Additionally, my experience with Kingroot just switched devils.... I was able to deal with my phone and bloatware however traded for the same ads and bloatware with Kingroot. Maybe its changed, it has been a year since I attempted my last Root. Like I stated,, I would gladly pay for apps that are ad and bloatware free and keeping my privacy....
4. Are there better phones?
Your thoughts, ideas and links would be greatly appreciated. I dont mind a little work getting updates, I dont mind slow updates, or even using the Generic Samsung Android Version, I dont need all the apps in the world, I would prefer reasonable privacy more than anything.
Thanks in advance.
The Galaxy S8 isn't the best device for doing custom ROMs on. You need a device that is open without restrictions, the one that already good has root options and so on. I am not saying there aren't any ROMs for it... You can wait to see if Pixel 2 will be any good. I would suggest you to check out a flagship phones(if you want) and make a list of which ones you like and then search on XDA and check out the ROM section for each phone.
Any suggestions.... Im not to picky... I guess I should ask what is the most popular at this time and why???

One Plus 5 is a great phone if you like flashing stuff. It doesn't have wireless charging, the display is a 1080P AMOLED, no mechanical image stabilization, and no official waterproofing. Other then that its great.
well, after the S6 ( i believed) samsung tighten up security on their phones, especially for a new phone like the S8. So customize ROM ( AOSP) is pretty much out the door for the S8( at the time of this comment). Well, if you really want S8, go with the Exynos version, since there is some ROMs available. And if you dont like S8, then maybe take a look, and some research at the LG G6, it's solid phone. Great build, good looking, and from a well-known company.
Get the Note 8 when it comes out soon. Don't get US Snapdragon S8 due to UFS 2.0 storage; US Snapdragon S8+ is UFS 2.1 (something like 300MB/s faster read when comparing). Don't expect to root anytime soon unless you get an international Exynos S8/S8+. I am happy with US Snapdragon S8+ but I kinda wish I waited for Note 8. I plan to root my phone as soon as a root method is published. Oh well, I'll just get the Note 9 next Fall.

Agree. OR Xiaomi Mi6 isn't bad choice also.
nobody is working on the root?
@topjohnwu hey there, can I ask if you think rooting the Huawei Mate 20 pro will be done at any point? I'm really hoping so! I've checked your twitter but couldn't seem to find an answer to this. Thanks
Update - I'm sending you a more detailed email, would really appreciate a response whenever you can
For me it is as well very important. Looking forward Huawei Mate 20 rooting. I will buy this phone only if there is root. Otherwise, Samsung Note 9

I've preordered it and it'll arrive this Friday and I'll claim the free watch and wireless charger too. I'm gonna enjoy the device for as long as I can, but in all honesty if I miss root too much then I'll sell it all and switch (from my current pixel 2 xl) to either the 6T or Pixel 3 xl. I'm very curious of the 6T, I know it will have amazing rom development which is a big thing for me normally, but also the camera may not be as good (though the Google cam port may solve that!). And the Pixel 3 xl doesn't seem like much of an upgrade from the 2 XL, so hell I may even end up just getting the 2 XL back again lol

Yup. The mate 20 pro is an expensive phone so think it will hold its value for at least a year so plenty of time to sell on.

I'm the same but I don't like to step backwards so wouldn't go for the pixel 2 XL again. The OnePlus 6t will be decent but the not as good screen and camera always hold me back. And the 3 XL which although is a great phone I hate the notch and 4gb ram and a few other things are disappointing. It will hard be after having the mate 20 pro which has so many things to go back to something with less lol. But yeah emui isnt my favourite but if we can at least root and debloat it I'm happy. Same with my Samsung tablet (not really a Sammy fan) I can at least have root and disable all the bloat

Very good points.
Plus if we can root and possible twrp, then maybe if/when xposed comes to Pie then I'd settle for now custom roms

Yeah exactly. Although I will always flash a rom I'm not as fussed as I use to be, ROMs are great but think stock is very good these days on my most phones . Shame I will never get to see DU PIE on the pixel 2. But at least root is a must, don't use xposed haha. Just order the same film screen protectors as you and a spigen style case from eBay, want to be prepared. The glass protectors might be useless and don't want to be without one

I'll miss some things though, like adding extra buttons to the navbar and extra functionality (I have an additional power button there that turns the screen off with a tap, shows the power menu on long press and double tap takes a screenshot) plus I love having long press back button to kill apps, but perhaps with a gesture app I can replace such things

is there an update about a working way to root for 20 pro available?
I thought this phone can't rooted due to the locked bootloader and no way to unlock it as Huawei no longer offer that service.
Anyone tried to use google to find the solution???

And, did you follow what your link states and have your M20Pro unrooted successfully ? I doubt it because it links to the Huawei Unlock-request page that no longer exists
Hi all. You could unlock your bootloader at link below for $55. Then, you could root via ADB command. Problem solve. Suppport all latest model. Hope this helpful.

If the unlock bootloader option under developer tools is greyed out there is currently no way to unlock the bootloader even if you get a code from funkyhuawei - and they mention this on their page as well. So if you want to loose 55$ feel free and do so.

Hello,
I'm thinking about switch from iPhone X to Samsung Galaxy S10 or S10+. Have some questions, hope you'll hape me to decide.
1. I had samsung mobile 5-6 years ago. Had a problems with lagging, apps crashed etc. I believe it's ok now with the current devices. Am I right?
2. can you recommend me good case for S10/S10+?
3. do I need to install antivirus to device?
4. Is there big difference between S10 and S10+? Help me to decide what to buy
I really don't know a lot about android devices but I'm sure I want to buy S10/S10+.
Thank you.
1. I admit it was lagging for old Samsung with their touch wiz, in samsung s9 samsung s10 with newest and refind One UI, it was much better, fluid, responsive and better than stock android
2. I personally will pick leather and silicone case from samsung official for s10, it feel better and slim
3. lol.. andorid doesn't need antivirus as long you don't install malicious apk from internet, samsung s10 have Samsung Knox that protect your data and privacy better than other brand
4. battery mostly .. they had 3 new devices, s10e(small) s10(medium) and s10plus for more power
s10 and s10+ have 8GB and 12GB of RAM
this is useful since s10 can now be connected with DEX OS using hdmi cable and turn your phone into a computer

thank you @4us. Waiting for another answers.

I've had the S5, S7 Edge, the S8+, and am now getting the S10+. With that said, each new device has significantly improved in terms of performance and stability. Android will still have it's quirk's every once in a while. They still always recommend wiping your cache partition if you're having issues but this is more of an Android thing rather than Samsung, and if I'm honest, I may wipe my cache partition once a year if that. That's not really a Samsung issue, it's more of an Android OS issue.

It depends on what you consider good. Do you plan on showing the look of your phone off? Or do you plan on using the case for protection? Either way, Samsung has some nice official cases as well as the typical case manufacturers that you would already be familiar with your iPhone.

If you're downloading directly from the play store you shouldn't need it. If you're side loading apps, as in downloading them from online outside of the play store and installing them, then it could be beneficial. Chances are that you won't be doing that and you should be just fine without one.

What do you plan on using your phone for? There are a few differences to list, especially if you care about the cameras, internal storage space, screen size, ppi, etc.
Which phone will be more long lasting in terms that it will not slow down after Android or Interface (Samsung Experience, One UI) upgrades?
I'm looking between these 2 phones for the one that will have a better CHANCE for lasting 5 years being as quick and as “battery life good” AS POSSIBLE.
I think all of us know that the OEMs make our phones slower by patches, upgrades with attached algorithms to slowly month after month (so we couldn’t notice) shorten the battery life, slower the speed and make battery consumption bigger with sole intention for us to buy a new model next year or in the next 2 years.
BTW I don’t need the Pen and I don’t play any games and I don’t need a super good cam. EDIT: no rooting and no custom romming for me on that device for ever.
If I don't need the Pen why to bother with Note you may ask?
Well, I hope that Note being the business phone is going to be treated better by Samsung in the above terms than a Galaxy S phone, but maybe it’s the other way around?
What do You think?

i'm using a Tab S 8.4 SM-T705 LTE as a daily driver it's coming up to 5 years, it's still going strong! im rooted modded my Tab S is an awesome bit of kit!
Both phones you have suggested, can easily last past 5 years so it's up to you what are you reqiuremnets do you need a S-PEN ? or you into photography then go for the S10+
i'm planning on keeping my Note 9 for next 5+ years! that's if samsung dont put a hole in the display, for the next Note lineup, if they do then this is my last Note from samsung i'm ever purchasing!
if you dont mind the hole punch in the display? Then go for the S10+ as that screen on the S10+ looks awesome! i find it much brighter then the Note 9! Also i doubt i'll ever upgrade my Note 9 to ONE UI PIE 9 it runs super smooth on Oreo 8.1 so i'm sorted for the next half decade!
It's all about personal preference,

1. As I said I don't need a S-Pen and I don't need a super good cam. So neither drawing nor photo making is my deal. I just want a super fast Samsung phone like these 2.
2. The screen od S10+ looks and feels in touch even absolutley awesome.
3. I'm happy to hear that someone is not laughing that a device would last 5 years..
4. I found out yesterday in shop that on stock rom (Oreo) Note 9 runs smooth but I fear that after upgrading to Pie+ One UI there's going to be at least micropauses, (it freezes for a second), lags, no smoothnes enymore like in S8 that recently upgraded from Oreo. All stock, no root, no custom.
5. Do You think the same will happen to your Note9 after that upgrade? Are You afraid?
6. Is it possible not to accept an Android upgrade in Samsung but still accept security patches? And how can I do it since each time I will me asked to first - upgrade to Pie+OneUI?

1: S10+ is the one to go for then!
2: That screen is awesome i had a play with one wow it’s really sharp and bright it's an beautiful AMOLED display SAMSUNG nailed the S10+ display!
3: Dude there's nothing wrong with having a half a decade old device! (Please ignore keyboard warriors! Oh no he’s keeping a device for 5 years lol) When people see video playing on my Tab S 8.4 it's so sharp and bright they are shocked how amazing it looks not bad for nearly a 5 year old device!
4: its early days for ONE UI PIE 9 as i did install it only played with it for 24/48 hours! Man they have taken so much away really feels childish! i think Samsung thinks if they copy Apple they will become even more successful stupid way Samsung is going!
5: See my 4th answer early days as i said before let ONE UI PIE 9 get ripe maybe in a few years i'll upgrade!
6: No it’s not possible! Well that's what I’ve heard i could be wrong! Truthfully security patches I’m not bothered about them, there's so many sheep (No offence to anyone) People thinking if they don’t have the latest security patches they will get hacked or owned what a load of bull! Please note Google isn’t no small player! Also please note i do daily banking, Amazon Shopping eBay Purchases, PayPal Transfers purchases random website shopping etc. from my rooted Tab S 8.4 i haven't had no issue never been hacked! With all do respect it's harder to get hacked on 1) tablet 2) old 3) rooted and maybe custom romed 4) not so popular compared to the phones we're talking about
besides I think I wrote that I'm not going to root nor custom rom the device ever EDIT: I didn't, I'm sorry, I edited the OP.
1. I know how factinating the screen is but the longivity is my absolute target.

if i didn’t have the Note 9 i would have gone for the S10+ one thing i hate about these days smartphones batteries are not user removable! My Tab S 8.4 i could easily get 10+ hours out of it hard use!
Now i get around 3 or 4 hours that’s with just under 4000 chargers discharges!
So this time I’m not letting the note 9 drop below 20% and i try not to charge full 100% keep it at 80 or 90% i just want to see few years even 4 years down the road if the battery can give me a easily day use as it now!
Just be careful with battery charge discharges if you really want it to last 4/5 years!

1. You removed the old battery and bought a new one?
2. I am already careful with that 20-90% but ti's quite hard on S8 with 3000 mAh but I imagine it even could be harder on Note 9 with 4000 mAh.
3. Let me ask You this: On the day of start of sale of Note 9 or on the day of start of sale of S10+ if both devices cost exactly the same would you still gone for S10+ and why?
You could have gone for Galaxy S devices long ago, with S9+ for example or ealier. Why did You even buy that Note9 then if You probably don't share my theory of Samsung respecting the Note users more than Galaxy S users?

I don't need to watch it. I compered these cams long time while being in a shop.
I don't care how great the winner is. The looser is still so good that I don't care about that.
And I said something about camera (read again please) for people not to try to suggest me getting a Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 that has Snapdragon 845, from screens on the net it has a good camera and it costs 300 USD.

1: Nope it’s still the original battery!
2: brilliant i only recently found out 20-80% battery theory!
3: That’s hard question wow I’m leaning towards the Note 9 due to Bluetooth S-Pen it's so cool and real handy in real world use! Plus Note feels more pro type of device! But after seeing the S10+ the other day! Sorry here I go again the screen i know i keep going on about the screen sorry i can’t get it out of my head it's so crisp bright! But the only true upper hand the S10+ has over the Note-9 is the camera setup and here i go again screen and off course the newer Exynos CPU!
4: i did go for the Galaxy S8+ on launch (waste of £870 as I didn’t use more than a handful of times. I swear I didn’t charge it no more than 50 times no lie over a year and some odd months I had the s8+) See all my life i kind of have been a Note user don’t get me wrong the Galaxy S8+ was a brilliant device but dam did I find it real boring! It like felt this phone is not for power users, it’s for the general folk!
i agree with you 100% Samsung Note user do have more respect than there Galaxy S users! Everyone knows! Samsung Galaxy Note Smartphones are for the power users and the business users!
You can truly run a company of the Note 9 it’s got so much power plus DEX plus Linux on DEX! Yeah I know you can get it on the Galaxy S range! But it feels more premium when it’s running on the Note sorry to sound geeky but you can’t mess with the Galaxy Note range as it’s in the league of its own!

3. I don't mind that you bring it up often cause I also was paralyzed when I saw and touched S10+ screen with my bare hands and it totally ruined my plans for quick decision making. I was mezmorized just like You and yeah the Note 9 ' 10nm Exynos vs. 8 nm Exynos in S10+ that makes it even more harder cause the seller told me it's the first Samsung SoC that took the idea of AI seriously, however I don't believe in this hardware-software AI marketing BS. It's just good software algorythms and all - like the ones that make photos better and find faces on camera app. The newer Exynos is just better case it's minus nm and its newer a probably better.
4. I'm shocked how we share very simillar experiance and way of thinking. My S8 was long on the shelf aswell. I agree with the rest.
5. Can You please tell me if I order Note 9 in 1h what are the names of these DEX devices to put into the cart that are for Note9 deigned. I will get a % off then. I don't have time to check it now on line cause there's too much of this and Samsung always changed something in names depending on which type of flagship and generation it was.
6. I share real conceirn about not accepting any update after potentially purchasing Note9 - cause the first will probably be the Pie+OneUI ****pack.
7. Please tell me in short about Linux on Dex that you mentioned. What's that about?

You said a couple of things (you don't need a pen, for note in this case, and don't need super camera, S10 in this other case) that for me means that you don't really need both of them and for the pen, this was the real deal that made a note the most reliable respect to others in business terms in all the years since this solution was adopted to a phone / faphlet making it more nearly to laptops or desktops in its business functions.
In business terms, less bugs is the right solution and to have this situation, that means less firmware updates and not the opposite because when having a lot of updates, that means mostly correction of bugs and not only monthly security pacthes....for example, passing from oreo to Pie only when Pie gets to be solid rock is right for the note because it's intended for business uses but not for the S10 because it's intended for people who wants mostly a new OS for the new functions and don't mostly care of some secondary bugs knowing that there going away in the next releases so they can wait. Seams ridiculess, but believe me that there are a lot of people that wants the beta versions (full of the wrost bugs) because they can't wait for the stable versions coming out.
Saing this, the bugs that can afflict a phone after a major OS update is equel to every model so battery drains, freezes, slowing down situations and other things can or can't happen equally to all and mostley bepends on the modifications (new launchers, apps in conflict with the new OS, ecc) made to the phone before the upgrade that goes in conflict and even depends on cash /data conflicts and corruptions so that's the reason why when having problems, wipe cash or data of the single app or of the entire phone resolves.
For the phone itself, the note 9 is the only one having a revolutionary cooper pipe cooling system that makes cpu and gpu working cooler and faster (less autotrotheling for to much heating... in other words, less cpu gpu frequency drop downs for heating protection ) and makes all being more durable and only for this, the note is the best since now, even more then the S10, and this should be even the answer of the title of this thread.
On the other hand, the S10 is the new model and like for the coming out of all new models, it's going to have new hardware solutions so better cameras, stronger and faster cpu / gpu respect to the older models. Notoriously, the note series having same hardware of the S series so the note 9 is basicly an S9 with a better cooling system (the first time happening) , bigger battery and screen and also having a pen with correlated functions...so, definitely, the choise is yours and depends on what you need or want.

1. I don't need a pen cause I'm not an artist, drawer, graphics guy. I bought a Stylus for S8 and I enjoy it and use it 1/3 of the time. Maybe I get addicted to S-Pen like many people as I've heard.
2. I like smooth and fast responsive phones with super AMOLED and nice interface ..... etc. so S10+ vs. Note 9 stays on the battle field.
3. Do You think that upgrading S8 the first day Pie+OneUI came trough OTA and started lagging, 1-second freezing, not smoothing would never happen on the first day on Note9 and now after some time I could with no hesitation update Note9 and be sure that I will notice no drop in the 2. point areas?

So true! Once you see that screen on the S10+ man it's like a sledge hammer imprint on the brain! crazy how bright and really vivid + super sharp Samsung has pushed that oled panel to wow!
Yeah defo the Exynos in the S10+ is way better! Samsung is really pushing towards the AI side of things! I havent really read up on the 10nm vs 8nm will do sometime! Bixby they are pushing as there Ai, Bixby isn't that bad it comes pretty handy once you know the commands!
For Dex you need a USB-C - HDMI cable or you can purchase Clicky--> Samsung Multiport Adapter EE-P5000BBEGWW Also you will need a Bluetooth keyboard, and mouse, once all hooked up you got a full desktop experience!
Same with Linux witch can run in DEX so you got a full desktop O.S from your smartphone!
DEX is pretty polished off you can browse the web play games edit documents office etc. really you got a portable laptop in your pocket!
See pics!!

1. The first link made my day - I need that for a laptop in this shape LOL!
2. The two second links at the bottom are strange - the last one says it's for S8/S8+ ("supports")
3. What is that whole in the middle of Dex Station - is it Gigabit Ethernet for RJ45 Lan Cable?
4. So Note9 has linux inside? wow, do you what distribution or if I can launch just being in Note9? Or this Linux is simple the thing I see in the monitor after connecting DeX?
5. Does DeX Station charge wirelessly or trough hard connecion with that USB-C stick stand up in the middle of the DeX?

Yeah Dex first launched on the S8, S8+ it was a big deal for Samsung! They haven’t updated the page, it is compatible with the Note 9
I’m not sure if you can charger wireless, I do know it has inbuilt fan to keep your phone cool while in Dex mode... And it does charge the phone once docked!
Yes it is a gigabit Ethernet socket
I can’t answer that as I did order the Dex multi dock seller let me down so cant test what version of Linux is running on the note 9 see this link for more info on Linux for Samsung smartphones https://www.linuxondex.com/

Dude, one very important thing, a "expert" on the net and in real life calimed that:
- the DeX station for Note8 is exclusive in name and in destination
- the DeX for Galaxy S9 is exclusive in destination and name
So now let's focus is there a third type of Dex or a fourth and what it is name and what does it do and for which phone is it?

For 1. Pen is not mostly used for drawing reasons and normally it's used in many working fields and even in multy tasking environments and its the only way you can put an hand made signature in a document for example...
For 2. The response that you can have is mostley the same and if there's a difference, you will not be able to notice it if you don't put them both near to do the same things... So for me, this thing is worthless for deciding only if you consider it when phone is cold... Heat them by using them and, you can look if the note is faster because it's cooling system let's the cpu run on the same frequency as its cold...
For 3. The first version released of every OS is laggy whatever model you consider, Even for the note with Pie, then the other releases corrects buggs. Explained in my post why other things can happen and doesn't depend only for os having bugs by itself. OTA is the worst way for updating... better using a pc with smart switch or Odin.

2. I totally get what you mean but I am sensitive for Samsung's lagging, let's leave it there cause we both go into places we don't wan to be. S10+ vs. Note 9 stays!!!
1. What is multi tasking env. for you in this particular sentence?
3. The other releases corrects.... by releases you mean like Android 9.0.1 or Android 10 or security patches? Why OTA is bad and why smart switch (what's that?) or Odin (recovery mode ? how?) can be better?
BTW yeah I know, don't ask me how in the ..... I ended up on XDA with the last questions.

Well, explaining some things could be to long so, for not going OT and for returning on the threads title and question, if the software is the same and offers same problematics , hardware is different and even if S10 has the most last hardware, the note has the most efficient cooling system ever made for a device and that makes more durability and also makes the device faster because not heating where others will causing, in the others, a decrease of cpu's frequency for overheating ... So, for me, note 9 is better.

In terms of business, the one thing Samsung takes seriously is Knox. This is irregardless of device.
Knox is what makes Samsung money once a device is sold to a business.
Want to build a custom APP using Samsung APIs or manage your Samsung device inventory, you have to pay Knox licensing fees.
One of the primary reasons you see security updates released for older devices is because multinational corporations and government outfits have thousands of Samsung devices in their possession. If we have a issue, we raise it with Samsung. They address it based on OUR severity versus THEIR OWN. If they don't, we go to the Carrier we purchased it from and apply pressure. Either way, internally or externally, the problem is addressed and the average consumer/enthusiast benefits.
Hello here guys, I need some of your knowledge and those who have the S21 Ultra in their hands.
First thing I am a htc fan since 2010 with the htc .. After this I changed htc phone every 2 years until 2018.. My last samsung phone dates back to the samsung galaxy S I9000 model back to 2010 and I didn't like them, I didn't keep them for long. My actual phone is the last flagship is the HTC U12+ i liked this phone very much and still love it, it still works fine but it is getting a bit old. After this Unfortunately HTC is almost dead since the takeover by google, i only had one major updates from android since, and give us only android pie and security update July 2019 this is unacceptable for a flagship i have pay more than 1000 $ for it in 2018. I would ideally like to have a new phone with new technology this year. I wanted to wait to see the oneplus 9 pro but .. the 8 have so much problem and i have read on the forum, the update support is getting very bad like htc .. and google no longer make flagship... Not a lot of choice other than that .. and i never want an apple.
So I am looking for the S21 ultra but it is a tough decision for me! I need your experiences with this device and with samsung..
Are samsung phones is strong and durable?? I dropped my HTC several times with a case of course i always have a case on the phone and a screen protector and is never broken. One ui has become much more interesting i have see but i still need to make some debloat it with the root. I find that the fast charge is a little low for this phone, how long does it take you to charge it with a 25W? what more can you tell me about this? Also another thing that bothers me is the curved screen. I am really not convinced on this? but all the flagship are like that now. A Another problem for me is the root, I don't want a phone without root! I am in Canada, and I know that the galaxy variants canada, the bootloader is completely locked and still no possibility to unlock it on this i find samsung very stupid about this.. unless that has changed but it would surprise me I saw nothing of that.
So if I want the device I have to buy the global model ( i want snapdragon too ) ( china model i think ? )which is the SM-G9980, but as I have seen 5G will not be compatible in Canada with this model, can someone confirm that? for 5G and that this model the bootloader is unlockable please?? I don't care much for 5G either but I would prefer to have it compatible.. If i flash a canada firmware is will work or nothing will change ? and is even possible to change the firmware ? For several years now I have been buying my phones full price from some online stores that sell global devices in Canada and for a little less expensive too. I am with public mobile ( belong to Telus Canada ) i really like this company this will work for the 3G and 4G i have see right? not sure.
Thanks for reading me and your answers guys!
UP please ??

The phone is not worth it!
This is a gadget geek forum many of us waste money on shiny toys. You have a very old phone by the standards of tech enthusiast, but you don't seem like you feel you're missing anything accept software support. If that's the only thing that really concerns you, I would say save $600 and get the Galaxy FE. It will outperform your current phone in everyway. It has a plastic back cover that feels like premium material but is durable. It's 5G. It has android 10. Its got better cameras. It has an SD Slot. I think the only thing you may miss is the headphone jack, and just about all phones are loosing that. So I would say unless you plan to change the way you utilize your phone. Save your money and go Mid Range feature rich, your not going to miss flag ship features you've never used and will never use more than a few times just to test it out anyway.

I agree with you. Those flagships models are not worth the money the vendors are asking for. Sure they are really good like Samsung S21 Ultra which is my daily driver now, but typically you get all you need either with new midrange phones or 1-3 years old flagship models.
Hi, I pretty love the flagship but yeah I find it expensive this phone... Will see what I will do. In the meanwhile if someone have the information I want for the model is will be great!

The Ultra has the least aggressive curve of all curved Galaxy models. The viewable area doesn't really cascade over the side like my s10+.
The phone takes maybe 100 minutes to charge but I haven't really done a controlled test. I'm just going off the avg time it says when I plug it in to my QC 3.0 charger.
US / Canadian Galaxy 21s will likely never get a real root. Root would most likely trip the security fuse if ever possible. So at that point you could no longer use NFC payments. I could be wrong on this since I haven't been rooted or unlocked since HTC M8 days.
As far as durability goes, this phone is made from the most durable Corning gorilla glass on the front and I think the back is one step down. The phone has a metal frame and the camera housing is integrated into the metal frame. So I'd say it as durable as a glass phone can be.
I can offer no insight on Chinese market phones and their radios compatibility. I'm not brave enough to spend $1000+ ordering a device on the net unseen, with no warranty, and questionable compatibility. I need my device to work out the box, root is not that important to me anymore.
@mc_365 So you have the phone with what I have understand? Well I know is since the s7 I think the us and Canada having a locked bootloader and I find it stupid from Samsung really. For the NFC payment , my last three phone having it I think and I am still not using it.. Still not really interested by this. Well the root for me is still pretty important , I am using it for some reasons...
Well my last two HTC devices I have buy the global version and everything work.. and the phone work great too, and warranty on this. Is for Samsung phones I am a bit lost.. for the global version ( because the bootloader is can be unlock and also global version phone is always less expensive I buy my phones full price) what is working in Canada and what not...

Yes I own the Phone.
I bought the phone outright as I do most of the time.
The non US/CAD phones are unlockable because from my understanding the law requires it in Europe. In the US the I think the carriers are concerned with subsidized phones being hacked for use without paying the phone off. That in combination with the US credit card companies concerns about fraudulent payments from hacked devices. These 2 major industries (Telecom and Banking) force the manufactures to adhere to these demands. So US/CAD and EU being the 2 major regions with strong governing laws force companies to comply or not be allowed to sell direct to consumers. Samsung has decided to just make it easy and keep everything coming to the US and CAD locked down tight. Europe must have their phones unlockable and the Chinese probably have some rules, and that's why they have Snapdragon chips and the rest of Asia has Exynos. There's probably some back door built into the Chinese variant for the CCP to monitor or to enforce the firewall etc.
Global version is less expensive because it has Samsung's Exynos processor which was somewhat inferior to Qualcoms Snapdragon in the past. Also in my experience you only save on the Global models after the phone has been on the market for a while. When it is relatively new you pay a premium to get that device from an importer. And again you get no warranty or support.

Yes I own the Phone.
I bought the phone outright as I do most of the time.

How do you like the phone?
Not exactly , the global version I am talking about is the SM-G9980 and is the Snapdragon model ( Hong Kong ) is unlockable. I have buy my last two phones at launch day and is 200-300$ less like the s21 ultra right now... And I have got a support and normally a warranty.
However, not very precise for the bands network here. I am looking for that is will be the same for all Samsung phone I guess.

Well as far as I have ever know, Samsung does not offer any warranty or servicing on devices purchased outside the region it was intended to operate.
Maybe the specific vendor your buying through is willing to warranty the device. But according to everything I've read and every place I considered buying from its always been stated up front,"Intl version NO Warranty" and the Exynos versions were cheaper but the Chinese version were just as expensive and more in a lot of cases. I've also heard of people receiving the phone and the language be set to Chinese and they could not operate the phone, LOL.
If my S10+ had 5G or 120hz screen I would have stuck with it. S21 Ultra is a great phone but in reality overkill for me. But I got $700 worth of trade in credit 500 for the phone and 200 worth of new accessories. So for ~$750 tax included and my old phone, I got s21 Ultra 512GB, Buds Pro, Soft touch Silicon + Spen case, Soft touch Silicon case, Clear TPU case, Rugged Hard Shell case with Kickstand, and a tracker tag thingy.
the s21 ultra is FAST and smooth.
i going to keep it for a few years unless the newer phones are a lot better.

My actual phone is the last flagship is the HTC U12+ i liked this phone very much and still love it, it still works fine but it is getting old. After this Unfortunately HTC is almost dead since the takeover by google, i only had one major updates from android since, i am stuck with android pie and security update July 2019 this is unacceptable for a flagship i have pay more than 1000 $ for it in 2018.

I have the 988B/DS and I love it. I had a note 20 Ultra and I traded it for the s21 Ultra and I don't regret it.
Durability: Phone has Gorilla Glass Victus (latest one) on the screen and on the back as well, really premium look (love the phantom black color). I don't plan on dropping the phone to test it lol, but videos show quite a lot of durability in drops up to 10feet. I will get a case to protect it just in case.
Storage: I don't miss the SD card (havent used one in over 7 years). I have the 256GB model one (12GB ram) and with cloud storage I don't think i will ever get close to filling the phone.
Cameras: I love the cameras, but it does get a bit to get used to the different options and mastering it for pro photos. It really is something else.
Processor: i have the Exynos version and I can't find any lag or issues with it. no overheating (this seems to have been fixed with an update), no issues at all with the phone.
Battery Life: With the 25W charger, from 0 to 100 in about 100 minutes give or take. It does charge fast, keep in mind that the battery is 5,000 mah so I don't think it's bad charging time.
Honestly? It is worth it... Not sure if changing from HTC will mean a lot of getting used to, but it's a nice experience.
I don't think flashing firmware to other models will result in 5G band compatibility, you can enable other market dependent services, but I believe network bands are more of a hardware thing.
About rooting, I used to root all my samsung phones and play around (and brick some phones) along the way, but I don't know why, but tripping knox and messing up banking capabilities is not of my interest. I'm happy with the phone as is and don't intend on rooting (disappointing I know).
Hope these comments help a bit on your decision making process
Thanks for your answers! When I have buy my HTC phone global version I had always every languages even the French ( the French is my principal language ) but with what you are saying the global of Samsung do not have this, China language? Can you flash firmware of another country on it like Canada? I do not much how Odin works... Yeah I am still not sure about the network bands compatibility and if is a software things or hardware? I saw posts that said it was one or the others things... Not really specific!
Disappointing? Yeah? Haha! Well in your place i wouldn't stop myself if the device you can unlock it !l Also in the reviews I have see is take approximately 1h11so 70 minutes to charge completely the phone with a 25w charger , why a big time difference here?

I used to root all my samsung devices (I stopped in Note 8). About the battery charge time.. I haven't let it go to zero lowest I have gone is like 35% and then charge so my calculation was based on the time to charge from that point, so 70 minutes is NOT bad at all...
My version has French language as an option in intitial setup (it has a bunch of languages - pretty sure it covers all needs).
Also, reading further in the forum, 5G bands are more software related (enabled), so it seems flashing firmware will enable/disable bands.
There are many posts in the forum on how to flash different firmware or change CSC codes so youmight want to take a look there. Odin is pretty safe to use if you follow the instructions. I haven't used with recent samsung devices, so I'm not sure what considerations you need to take.
I love the phone, but then again, I do not get to deeply play with it (unlocking the bootloader, rooting, flashing) as I did with other devices but I'm ok with it (for now). Given it's a pretty new device, it's kinda hard to find stuff for it yet.

I think the time difference is because we are not testing the battery with stop watches we are just telling you what it says on the screen when we plug it in and giving you an ball park estimate. It always says a longer time to full charge but ends up being faster as the battery calibrates during the charge process. Its like when you down
load a large file from the net it first starts off saying 20 minutes but then only takes 5.
If they don't fix the camera, especially taking photos at night (Exynos2100 version), Do NOT buy this phone
@mc_365 I understand now what you are saying... Thanks!
@oae08 What is the problem exactly with the camera? I do not see that on the reviews , good to know if you have a problem! Do you know if is Snapdragon too ? Or only exynos

So your 988B/DS is the global version ( china and global is the same thing as a know ) on Exynos if I understand? And you have French on it and many others languages!
Do you have some links near for what you are talking? About the 5 bands and the software flash? No need for how to flash a firmware of CSC codes I know is easy to find this, but it is quite possible to do it, to flash the firmware of the country you want right? No problem on the device after this? Also you only need the bootloader unlocked for flashing a firmware on a another country I Guess ?
Well I know magisk is not working yet on the s21 but is will be soon.

The camera is really disappointing. I have bought this phone for just over almost 1600$, which is above my budget actually) but I was really anticipating to buy a phone that has a monster camera that I can use to get decent photos point to click. However, this is not the case. The night time photos especially, are bad quality and there is too much flare. I have tried it in many different scenarios and cleaning the lenses in every possible way but still the flare is way over the acceptable. I even compared with iphone 11 photos taking the same photos back to back and the older iphone 11 results in much cleaner and better photos.
Please note that i HATE the iphone, but this is the truth unfortunately. So until samsung releases an update to fix this (if its even possible), the phone is not up to standard.
EDIT: I have the exynos version

Odd, I have the Exynos version and haven't had any issues with the camera in the many modes even night mode and it's awesome. I don 't know if the latest software update had something to do with it, but when I bought the phone and turned it on it updated and the update said camera fixes, so that might have been the case.
