Galaxy Z Fold2 Teardown Proceedure. I'm Preparing To Swap Main Boards! - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Since there's no WiFi Calling or Visual VM on the F916U1, and no available AT&T firmware to flash, I ordered an "upgrade" Fold2 in Mystic Black from AT&T...
In order to keep my Silver-hinged Black Fold2, I'll need to swap main boards between the two.
THIS VIDEO Found HERE shows that in order to accomplish my task, only the back glass cover(s) and several Phillips screws need be removed.
I think my small heat gun and phone tool kit with a suction cup will provide me the necessary equipment.
Do you guys concur? Would you have the guts?

If you take it apart you will NEVER get it put back together again.

I quoted and linked you to the thread that has the key information on how to achieve what you are trying to at if you had bother to read.

If you have the time, the RIGHT tools and have taken apart samsung phones before I say go for it!
But if you ask me is a custom hinge worth taking apart the phone for wifi calling? I'd just be happy I got wifi calling back. =)

Never say "NEVER". When I'm done I'll post a pic of the silver hinged phone with the ISDN on the screen, before and after and pics of the back covers looking "never removed".

Well, that seems like a better solution! Wish I had seen that before ordering the black one from AT&T, which arrives tomorrow. I'll run Samsung Switch and backup to USB OTG and try your flash.
Thanks!

Didn't work! What a waste of time!

NO GUTS for me! I don't know where you ended up with "your journey" but this is the process I did on my ZF2 and my N20U. Both phones are Samsung Unlocked Models (U1s) and AT&T is & has been my carrier for decades:
What I had to initially do was to Flash the U1 files for AP, BL & CP from XAA region and the CSC (not Home_CSC at this point in time) from TMB or VZW or SPR "U" (the CSC file is pretty much the same for all US carriers & AT&T "U" firmware files are hard to obtain).
This INITIAL Process WIPES your Phone.
Some people recommend to leave your SIM card out when doing this but I have always left the SIM Card in my phones with no issue. Your mileage may vary...
Also note that I'm using an old AT&T SIM card that had originally been in an AT&T-branded phone and on their network for months. This may or may not make a difference.
After flashing the firmware, I boot up with the AT&T Logo and have Wifi Calling, Visual Voicemail, HD Voice, HD Video with NO AT&T Bloatware!!
When a new firmware update comes out, I then flash the U1 AP, BL & CP for XAA and now the Home_CSC file from TMB, VZW or SPR "U" firmware. This way, by using the Home_CSC file, your phone does not get wiped so you do not have to restore anything. It just boots up and works. You have to download two sets of firmware though...No big deal to me.
You also need to know that if you flash your phone in this manner that you will NO Longer see the Software Update section in your Settings menu. You will need to continue to flash the monthly updates. The only way I know to get around this (& see the Software Update section) is to flash the AT&T User_Data file with the other U (not U1) files but then you definitely get the AT&T bloatware.
Speaking for myself, it's really worth it to Not have the Bloatware AND still have AT&T functionality.

Well, I appreciate the time you took to write up that procedure, but I don't wanna have to do my own FW updates, nor do I wanna wipe my AT&T Fold2 that I've now spent a week moving into and am still not done.
I have the "GUTS", and I'm sure it will be quite easy to swap out the main boards successfully. I'm actually looking forward to it! As soon as I can see out of my right eye again, I'll have the only AT&T branded model Fold2 with a custom hinge. BTW...
Bloatware can be frozen!

Updating unlocked ATT Galaxy S5 now on T-mobile network

I assume my idea would work but here is the issue:
My wife has an unlocked ATT Galaxy S5 that we are now using on T-Mobile. Obviously she can't get the recent security updates and marshmallow when it comes out. I don't really want to go the odin route with her phone and risk our marriage (lol) with wiping her data. If I put a sim card from ATT from a friend in her phone, it should then allow it to receive updates correct? I assume our old sim card, which is not associated with a number on the ATT network would not work.
I'm not sure. I'm on AT&T and I can't get the last two or three updates to even register on my phone. Usually someone uploads an OTA zip that you can boot into recovery mode and install, but the latest ones have been neglected. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the situation can give you a better answer, though.
I'm currently using Net 10 service on my Att S5 active and seem to get OTA updates.

Hmmmmm that's interesting. Maybe, then, we don't need to worry about them coming eventually.
Unfortunately not seeing the Marshmallow update via my ATT S5 running on T-Mobile. The phone says it is "up to date"......

Same here. It's really a bit of a shame. I'm thinking of selling line on swappa just to turn around and buy the t-mobile variant so I can root
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I can I'm going to try a friends att sim card in it to see if it can then download it.
If you throw an AT&T sim in, make sure its from an android device with LTE. Cruise the web a little a make a phone call. reboot after 15 minutes so AT&T's systems recognize your model and software before trying the software update.
Although the best bet would be taking it either to a AT&T service center or a Samsung shop in Best Buy, they can flash the update for you w/o wiping it
you can backup the device with Samsung smart switch on a laptop and keep most of everything just in case anything happens.
Flash PA2 firmware through ODIN and then these through recovery:

Unlocked firmware to Verizon S8

Has anyone tested yet the SM-G950U1 firmware from Updato.com in your Verizon S8 yet? prior to the S8 i had the 7 Edge with unlocked firmware and worked just fine, just wondering if this is official build on the net.
It is and it works. I'm using it now. Gear VR supposed to work also but I don't have one to say for sure.

Honestly I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it was either modified .12 or the unmodified version. I did update to the Canadian firmware first though because the U1 want available at the time.

I thought all the US variants of SM-G950U were bootloader-locked and hence we couldn't root. Are you guys saying that with this U1 firmware, it's unlocked and hence we can root? Link? I'm very skeptical this works.
Nobody said it was bootloader unlocked. It's carrier unlocked without any carrier bloat.

No, the firmware comes from the unlocked S8, which means is bloat free, has nothing to do with root.
I've had the U firmware for a couple of weeks and it works great. Just that there's no video calling. Haven't tried wifi calling yet. Those are two features I've barely used. Battery life is great. I think sprint forums are close to root so I might root after they get everything worked out.

Does Verizon's visual voice mail and HD Calling work?
Verion Video calling is no big deal for me, but I have used Wifi calling once or twice from a store that had no Verizon coverage, but had free wifi. I could live without it, but it would be a nice to have. Then again, no bloat, and some of the Samsung features like Cloud Backup would be cool.
Can this be flashed without tripping Knox/Safe flags? And/or is it easy to flash back to stock Verizon without tripping?

Yes, the HD calling works. Calls are extremely crisp. It's as if you were making a Messenger call over Wi-Fi. It's night and day.
I have the Verizon G950U variant and I'm looking for root, sadly this model doesn't have the "OEM Unlock" option under Developer Settings so I can't flash it without tripping Knox or my phone locking up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Tracfone S8, and flash the Verizon S8 firmware to it? I followed steps from another site and it gave me a firmware with Cricket, Metro pcs, and T-Mobile bloat on it and it was most definitely not Verizon. Anyone have any ideas what might have went wrong? Downloaded Verizon firmware direct from SamMobile but that was what I got. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated, hope I'm putting this in the right place rather than start a new thread. Any help, tips, guides, download links, etc. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure that if you were to flash any rom or recovery other than the stock (and maybe even that, I'm not sure), it will trip Knox. Your phone might give you the whole "SEAndroid is not Enforcing" boot screen. This happened to me on my Galaxy Note 5, I even tried reflashing it's sitting in my drawer, lol.
I wouldn't take the risk unless you have been given a spare Galaxy S8 by Samsung to expirement with. It's a little too risky for me
I may be an idiot, but I do know that OEM unlocking isn't available in Dev options. I got my Galaxy S8 a few weeks ago and not quite ready to tamper with it.

I don't see any indication of HD calling anywhere, visual voice-mail is missing, but I use Google voice anyway.

Wasn't aware of that, I haven't seen anything on xda about it. Will other carrier's SIM cards still work on different roms?
You're kidding right? Those threads were one of the earliest ones posted since the phone was released. If you have an sim unlocked device, it'll work fine, its the same limitation as every other sim locked device. I converted my Vzw S8 to the US unlocked version since Vzw LTE phones come sim unlocked already. Using it on MintSim (Tmo) and it works perfectly fine. Have Wifi calling and VoLTE. If you have any other carrier phones, you'll need to have it sim unlocked to be able to use other providers even if you flash that carrier's rom.

Changing to SM-N60U1 unlocked firmware and bands compatibility

Hello,
I am planning to buy AT&T version of Note 9 from craigslist (since they are cheaper due to AT&T BOGO). I am planning to flash the unlocked N960U1 firmware and use it on Verizon.
Can someone please tell me if I flash the SM-N960U1 firmware, does it include all the bands same as if I bought unlocked phone directly from Samsung? Or does it keep the same bands as came with AT&T? Do I need to flash any modem etc on top of the main firmware to get all the bands?
I want to make sure the phone will have all the bands since I am also planning to use it internationally in addition to on the US Verizon network.

All the *American* Note 9 and S9 phones are identical. If you flash U1 firmware, it becomes identical to a U1 sold directly from Samsung and will support everything they say unlocked supports.
It's been so long and I've been googling for an hour. I haven't flashed since the Note 2 days. I am plan on getting a VZW Note 9. What Odin/firmware/other files do I need to flash and what slots ( or link me to a post).
A lot of posts on here and reddit are assuming your'e a flasher and not giving "steps for dummies".
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

That would be the USC one from the pull down menu. That is the same one you get with a boxed unlocked phone. You would be better off picking the one that matches your carrier, it will still be bloat free but optimized for the chosen carrier. If you have Verizon or AT&T I have those here on AFH. There is a newer update but I don't see it on Sammobile only via OTA so far.

Are you using the Note 9 with the unlocked firmware with VZW GUDP? Have you installed any OTA security updates? I've heard there's a small chance a security update could re-instate the hotspot check but I haven't been able to find anyone with GUDP to check.
I'm somewhat in the same position as the OP, I have a note9 which I'm guessing has att firmware, I just bought it "unlocked" from an Ebay reseller. I'm using it on Straighttalk with their att sim. My major (to me) issue is I lost my hot spot permission. I've had hotspot working on last several phones including a note8 hours ago, as soon as I popped sim into this note9 I lost it. I've tried several APN settings to no avail, everything works fine, but no hotspot permissive.
Will I have to flash the U1 firmware to get my hotspot back?
flashing a new firmware dosent magically affect the phones modem to be suddenly able to use new bands. if the hardware specs states it is capable of using bands xyz, then the phone will operate on these regardless of which firmware it gets flashed to.
edit
carrier specific configs are set depending on firmware/csc you flashed. there are some guides and tricks to change your csc so that you can get these features. albeit on the n960u it might be more difficult or even impossible for now depending on the csc feature you are looking for.. but searching and reading should bring up some info.

The N960U and the N960U1 all support the same radio bands. They are all identical devices hardware-wise. Actually the N960W is as well. So flashing firmware actually does effect which bands are supported since they all support all the same bands.

Yup. Mine is an ATT carrier model purchased from ATT. Currently running thr U1 firmware on T-Mo with full support for all the T-Mo bands. Honestly switching to the same device for all carriers starting with the S8/+ was the best move Samsung made. I'm anxious for the carrier switching firmware to make a comeback on the Note 9 as well. It was magical watching it switch carrier firmware automatically on the Note 8.

You can also effect CSC-enabled features by flashing new carrier firmware, assuming you have a SIM for that carrier. Thr CSC specific features will all depend on which SIM card is in the phone. As it provisions automatically for each SIM.

As it provisions automatically for each SIM.

so people getting their network unlock codes and unlocking their devices to use with other carriers are pretending to be using their phones on these other "bands" all this time ..wow?
what the u1 firmware does is lift the carrier lock.
the phones original firmware had the ability to use all bands i described in my previous post from day 1.
and i know all about csc so don't waste your breath on me for that.

I'm not sure what you mean about pretending to use other bands? I'm saying they all support all the bands. Also not sure why you're taking it so personal?
Also, the U1 firmware doesn't lift the carrier lock. You still have to have a carrier-locked device SIM unlocked, either through your carrier, or through a third-party service. At least that's how it works on US Snapdragon devices. I know you use an Exynos, so I'm not sure how the carrier study works on those. All the U1 firmware does is provide a clean, non-carrier branded firmware.
And I didn't waste my breath. Unless you actually say everything out loud while you type? Like moving your lips when you read?

my bad on the u1 lifting the carrier lock then.
but what i dont understand is:
" So flashing firmware actually does effect which bands are supported since they all support all the same bands."
if they all support the same bands then flashing different firmware should be irrelevant on the phones capacity to use bands that are already available by default.?

Not even a giggle about the moving your lips while you read comment? Come on, that was gold.
As far as I can tell, there's no difference band support wise between carrier firmware and U1 firmware. BUT with that said, I've heard people say get better signal on carrier firmware. So maybe some carrier firmware locks out certain bands that aren't typically used for that carrier. And I know T-Mobile has aid in the past with the Note 8, only their carrier branded version supported the 256 Quad and 4x4 MIMO or whatever they call that advanced LTE technology. So it leads me.to believe other carrier software maybe locks out the bands T-Mo needs for the advanced LTE stuff.

yeah that's why people flash the tmo detonator pack on rooted devices. but on stock carrier bloat free u1 firmware these 'options' arent probably there. what ever hokus pokus TMO does with their csc to lube up their greased lightning dosent change the fact that other phones having different firmware can still use their services regardless of the firmware you are on, all available bands should operate correctly. thus explaining my previous posts. which were also heavily pointed towards OP's post .( he was inquiring how he wanted to be sure he could still access 'bands' from ATT after flashing u1.) so if you take my comments into context then maybe you'll see that they make sense.( appart from the one where i stated to you that u1 unlocked the sim, but who cares it's only you)
now foe the comedy part, guess we have different visions on what comedy gold is. for instance, the image/caricature your are building in your own mind to make your self laughs is quite a personal thing. Depending on the age and maturity of ones self, it might or might not be(funny). Personally, i usually don't let myself be troubled too much with cheap shots. But i guess it all depends in how hard the other aszhole works at it..

The detonator for the Exynos running T-Mo firmware. It's a bit different when talking Snapdragon devices.
And I can tell. You giggled. A little.

Question Completely lost here. Tmobile to Verizon

Afternoon all. Haven't been on these forums in some time. Started on the galaxy nexus and eventually faded away from any tinkering a few years ago. Currently using an S21 Ultra that was t-mobile locked. Got it unlocked and switched to Verizon. Trying to research everything I can to get myself on the unlocked or VZW software to make sure I've got all that I should be getting from VZW.
I've so far found samkey to change ny CSC, unlocked software and a whole bunch of other **** and I'm completely lost
Any chance I can get pointed in the right direction? Nothing seems to make sense to me for some reason.
Sorry to come off as a bit stupid, I'm just very much out of practice.
It probably work better on AT&T I think.

You're kind of in no mans land. Unless you have a very good reason to change service to Verizon, Tmobile would be the best option. Samkey won't change your Primary CSC to VZW. Verizon Firmware will remain in conflict with your TMO Primary CSC. Hard to say what compatibility issues this evokes. Samsung is making it more challenging to mix and match Firmware/CSC's. If you have a Multi-CSC device normally you SHOULD be able open the dialer and enter *#272*IMEInumber# (In the thread replace IMEInumber with your actual IMEI Number). Press the Dial Icon, you should see a screen with the list of available CSC codes for your device. Select VZW and tap the Install option. Another user with similar issues stated Android 11 eliminated Multi-CSC options so if you are bent on having Verizon as your Service Provider give it a shot and see what happens.
Circumstances changed and my reception has taken a serious downgrade. Add in the awful experience getting the network unlock done. I changed to VZW already.

Well if you're fine being on "unlocked" firmware, just flash to G998U1

Honestly, I haven't flashed a phone since my galaxy s5. I'm in the exact opposite situation you're in. Was going to try flashing tmobile firmware, and saw this post. Curious if it all worked out for ya
Not hard at all. Fire up ODIN, use the XAA (Or whatever region you are) U1 firmware, flash the wipe CSC in ODIN, boot, insert VZW SIM when it asks. Done.
*Edit I flashed a Tmob to unlocked in about 5 minutes. Check the U1 firmware post for instructions. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...1-firmware-links.4220223/page-6#post-85580269

Question Can't update SM-G998U att unlocked

I posted in wrong area hopefully this is right spot...
Hello, new to forum. I have a Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G Model number SM-G998U It's from at&t unlocked I'm using mint mobile When I try to update I get a software Update Interrupted message try again in 24 hours. I backed up and reset phone but it didn't fix this issue. Probably because I need an at&t Sim card, not sure.
Second related question is there a non at&t neutral rom that I can download and install ? So that I'm not relevant on at&t and that hopefully won't Include at&t bloatware.
I've modified a few phones before with different roms though it's been awhile.
I'm Learning the hard way, the difference between a truly unlocked phone and a carrier unlocked one.
I just can't afford a $1,200 new phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you.
Welcome to XDA
Personally I wouldn't worry about updates. AT&T updates can update over wifi or a special AT&T update cell tower. If the AT&T firmware is intact using wifi OTA updates might work. Otherwise a Samsung Experience center at Best Buys can do it. Or you could do it yourself.
I avoid touching the firmware on my N10+'s, this one in my hand is still running happily on Pie... lol, Samsung upgrades/updates can and do break things. Once bitten, twice shy.
having the same issue with a used unlocked ATT device that I bought recently in India. Unable to update it. Is possible to load the stock ROM and remove the AT&T one from this phone? will that help?
