Been a long time since I've updated my G6 (1.5 years?) and would like to update to the latest Pie (I have Oreo). I have twrp and magisk root so I imagine OTA will be more trouble than it's worth. I'm looking for the latest full firmware file that hopefully has the last security update. I'd also like to make sure the source is a reputable one. I came across https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/ and from what I can tell, XT1925-6_ALI_RETUS_9.0_PPS29.118-15-11_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml is the latest (Build Date: Tue Aug 6 08:45:54 CDT 2019). Is this the right file, and a good download site? Would this have the latest security update? Or anyone have a better link to what I need?
Thanks!

Try LMSA's Flash Rescue option
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
You will need to reflash twrp and reroot which ever way you update

Great. Thank you! So no need to unroot or remove twrp first?

If you use the flash rescue option, everything will be reflashed and data will be wiped, unless you edit the .xml file.
If you use the flash update option, data will not be wiped, but there is a chance that it won't boot correctly and you will have to use the rescue option.
Both options flash over twrp and root.

I'm not sure how an update installed when you were rooted, that normally doesn't happen. I was going to make a flashable rom today or tomorrow, but if your modem was updated, I'm not sure you'll get service with the older firmware. You may need to change the modem back to the previous version. What firmware version and security patch does it say in settings after the update? You might be better off just flashing the stock firmware with fastboot or RSDlite.
Edit: did you try wiping data of the apps that are giving you trouble?

I keep getting a notification for a boost mobile e4 plus update but don't want to take it because of this. Anyway to prevent it from popping up or is a good update available for those who are already rooted?

Taking an update when rooted should definitely fail. Is there any chance you could upload a copy of the OTA update zip, that would be great, because I haven't gotten it yet, and so could make a rom from the updated firmware. You need to flash full stock firmware before attempting to install an OTA update. The update zip should be in the cache folder, either /cache or /data /cache.

Hmm.. I don't see it in those folders.. It came up as a Motorola update ( Motorola software ) and not a typical Android ota update but it said it increased stability etc. Guessing not the same thing?

Never mind that. I forgot I deleted the ota apk. I got the update now. I'll make a flashable of the original firmware and the newer one after I update. The best way to keep the update notification from popping up is to delete the Motorola ota apk in /system/priv-app by the way.
Edit: Here's where to find the update zip: /data/data/com.motorola.ccc.ota/app_download

I can't make a flashable for everything that is updated, I could, but it's safer to just do it the right way. It would take way longer than it's worth to make a full TWRP flashable firmware. Your better off just taking the OTA or waiting until the newer firmware is out to flash with fastboot. The old and new radio and OEM partitions, and some other things don't play well together.

Yes it will. Who said you can't restore the stock recovery? You need to restore full stock with fastboot or RSDlite to take the update.

I'm uploading a stock rom now. I'll upload flashable of the modem and eom partitions also. Then I'll update and make a stock rom from the newer firmware. I should have links for all of it before the day is over. Watch for a new thread.
Edit: the rom I'm uploading now is untouched for Boost. I'll do Sprint and the retail model next, then I'll make some that are rooted/debloated. I'll need testers for Sprint and retail versions.
Edit-2:
Here's Boost untouched stock. I haven't tested it yet, I'm waiting for my backup to finish to test it now.
Edit-3;
Didn't flash, I think maybe the mount points aren't right. it failed to mount /system. I'll fix it and reupload it.

I got a rom working. I tried making it sparse.dat format but it wouldn't provision data services so I tried set metadata and it works fine. Only problem is the zip is 1.9GB. I'll do what I can to decrease the size so everyone doesn't have to use that much data to download it. I'll post a link as soon as I get it shrunk down and uploaded.

Here's Boost Mobile stock:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745849072291697789
It's not rooted or modified in any way. You'll have to flash a no dmverity zip or just Magisk or it won't boot unless you format data. There's some newer zips here:
https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/
Or, you can flash the f2fs patched kernel recently posted. I'll make debloated and patched kernel versions when I have time.

If anyone is feeling brave, I modified the last Boost Mobile ota update zip and made a partition updater and updated stock rom. What I did was removed all the system, oem and modem patches asserts/checks, added the updated oem.img and modem.img, and the flashable rom for the system update obviously. The updated ROM may not work without updating the partitions with either the zip I made, or by restoring the original firmware with fastboot and taking the official ota update. I know the rom posted above will not work with the updated modem/oem, so I would assume the same will with the new rom and old modem/oem.
Here is the TEST BOOST MOBILE partition updater:

Here is the updated Boost Mobile ROM:

Flash this at your own risk. If this doesn't work, you might have to flash the original firmware with fastboot, so please don't attempt flashing it unless you can restore your phone if something goes wrong. I take no responsibility for anything that might. I have also made Sprint and retail model ROMs and will make a stock ROM thread some time soon when I have time. Let me know how it goes if anyone tries.
Edit: make sure to flash a no-dmverity zip or format data after flashing the ROM or it won't boot. I also successfully restored a TWRP /data backup from the origional rom version to the new version after I updated so you don't have to worry about losing all your data by flashing stock firmware with fastboot to update officially.
Edit-2: I guess nobody was feeling brave. I really wanted to know if the damn thing worked or not so I flashed it. I was already updated but it flashed just fine and didn't brick my phone, so it should work just fine for you all to update the easy way. You'll see a "failed to mount firmware" message at the end, just ignore it.

Would it work with Walmart's prepaid xt1774?
I made the mistake of installing TWRP and Magisk before updating, and all I get is the "update unsucessful" screen, so now I'm stuck with 7.1.1 on my Android One Moto X4.
I found a factory image of Oreo on firmware.center (can't link it here because new user, but the filename was PAYTON_FI_8.0.0_OPW27.57-25-2_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip) for my device, and would like to know if it's safe to use and how to install it (sites seem to give conflicting information). This thing is brand new, so I'm a bit nervous about messing it up.

One last thing, that guide mentions using mfastboot, where do I get it? Is it any different from the regular fastboot?
No it's just normal fastboot.
Flashed it, works great! Thank you! (However, Android File Host was having issues and it took multiple times before a successful download)
Just got a notification for update 6 on my VZW Note 9. This should be build 1CSC1 with the March security patch included. I haven't had a chance to update my phone yet.
Also, I sideloaded builds CSAA and the current CSB3 that I'm on now, via stock recovery and SD card and I'm receiving official OTA's from my carrier. I know some were worried they may not receive official OTA's if they sideloaded those builds. I'm just re-confirming what others such as Mr. Orange have said that you will be back on the official OTA train being on the sideloaded CSB3.
Thank you. I am waiting for an update since I sideloaded Pie last month.

Yeah, no problem. Just wanted to get it up asap to let those who still worried about not getting official OTA's anymore because of sideloading, that they will still get official OTA's as long as they're on CSB3. Here's a screenshot of the about screen with the new build running, I didn't update till recently.

Please help if anyone knows an answer to my issue. I have a Verizon note9 I updated from oreo to pie manually through recovery now I am no longer getting ota updates, even if I search for them. I was told that side loading pie would not effect later OTA's . Is there a way to fix it or I somewhere I can download the updates and install through recovery would be ok too. But can't find them anywhere.

Which version of pie are you still on? CSAA? If still on CSAA, you'll have to install the CSB3 pie build. The CSAA to CSB3 zip to put on your SD card and flashed through stock recovery can be found here within the Note 9 threads. Once you're on CSB3, you'll get OTA update notifications for the next couple OTA updates.

I have the file but it keeps aborting not sure what the issue is .my sd card is encrypted do I have to decrypt it before flashing the update?
Alright got the file (cbs3) and flashed from recovery, and then my ota updates started coming in so I am all updated and life is good. Now I'd I could just figure out why a week ago I stop being able to download apps or update installed apps from xda (from here) not sure what happen or why but when I try it starts to go through the motions ana them I get download failed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have tired all the usual fixes, clear cache and data uninstall and reinstall xda app,no help...

The update is only listed at 99MB? Your file is 1.4GB. I'm not sure exactly what we would be flashing with this file.
I installed the zip https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../09c48ba6cb9415820640cf217855b5463a1e0cd5.zip in recovery. it took a minute or two. step 1/2 just wait a little bit. you will lose twrp recovery and root. but im now updated to march 2020 security update. im ok with that. Im not that concerned with the whole root thing. just letting you guys know It Works
im still on sep 2019 update
So, as title says, i'm rooted with the first october update and now i want to go with november one, but i'm rooted and of course OTA isn't working. How to correctly do it with factory image? Hi Dude,
PIXEL-Flasher is your friend.
📳🔥PixelFlasher for Google Pixel 7 Support Thread.
This is the support thread of PixelFlasher (PixelFlasher is an open-source self contained GUI tool to facilitate Pixel phone device flashing/rooting/updating with extra features). Note: This thread is meant for issues and problems faced in...
forum.xda-developers.com
How to use the Pixel flasher tool is perfectly explained in the OP's!
For me the Update (Nov fact-img) worked w/o any problems inclusive keeping root! (in PixelFlasher you can patch the init_boot and will be flashed automatically)
Just updated with pixel flasher keeping root with magisk and xposed and all modules, everything works without any type of issues! Absolutely reccomended to those who have my doubts. Amazing software for pixel users!
If somebody is looking for an alternative method, check out this video tutorial.
It worked perfectly for me.
I only just got my pixel 7, but the pixel flasher way seems way more simple than that alternative method.
Well, I just updated using the pixelflasher...
That was just about as simple as it gets. I recommend!
Can you skip a monthly update using pixel flasher? Say you're on October/rooted. Could you update to December/rooted or should you update to November first?

No, because it's not working. You need to use flash-all.bat (after editing and deleting the "-w") from stock when updating and re-root. Faster than the OTA upgrade, takes less time.
