Anyone else got a pixel 5 and pixel stand?
If you enable s teen off when dark and DND mode, then put on stand on dark room the screen goes off. However as soon as your phone gets a notification the screen lights back up with the stands ambient display and stay on. Unless you lift the phone off the stand and then place it back on again but only until you get another notification.
The stands ambient display is quite bright and it's causing me to wake up super annoying.
Contacted Google they claming it's not an issue the pixel 5 works with the stand and sent a replacement but the replacement does the same thing also tried mine and GF pixel both do the same thing.
First pixel and I feel Google support just seems to blame the user.
I have wireless charging although not the pixel stand. I always just put phone into do not disturb mode at night. I know it doesn't answer your question but.....

And here.
Same for me. Didn't realise it was notifications waking it up but have noticed it being on in the morning. It is also full brightness where my pixel 3 was nicely dimmed even if you set it to stay on....
My pixel 3 stays off if you set it to turn off though. Seems like a bug on the pixel 5 - sure they will fix it eventually.
Same here with pixel 5 ! And also using the pixel stand, charging wirelessly my phone seems to stuck it at 100% battery unless I restart the phone...
My phone can sit at 100% a few hours before it starts depleting - not sure if that's wireless charging related?
I contacted Google they said there is no bug and it's all rumors and the stand is faulty well one replacement later and 2 pixel 5s later the issue is still there told them this was software but they won't believe it.
I had the same problem. The only thing that I have found that will truly fix it is to disable the Pixel Stand app.

same issue here
I have the same issue and it drives me nuts. I will also complain to Google about it.
I do have 1 question for those that have this issue. Did you setup your phone as new or copy from an older device like I did. A lot of my settings were transferred to my Pixel 5 from my 4. I'm just wondering if that has anything to do with it or not.
I copied and had the issue. I started messing with Digital Wellbeing and eventually turned it off entirely and forgot/re set up the pixel stand to put the phone into DND and that worked, but let one notification through. I turned off everything but alarms and calls and I was not woken up last night.
The new fw update from Google seems to fix this ?

I too am having the same issue, however i believe that my issues is slightly different from yours. I noticed maybe about 2 days after i purchased the phone that mostly anytime I am using the browser, whether it be Chrome or the stock browser my screen automatically adjusts itself. I went into settings and made sure that the brightness was not set at "Auto" and turned all the way up. I also made sure that reading mode, auto adjust screen tone, and color adjustment were all turned off. I also changed the screen mode to dynamic and I seem to still have this same issue. I read on another forum for T-Mobile users that there are a lot of consumers experiencing this same issue, not sure if carriers are doing swap outs for the phones as this may not be related to a HW issue but rather a SW issue.
That sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing. Except I work outside, so when it does this it's impossible to see my phone. If you get a chance the next time this happens can you go into settings and open the brightness slider to see if you also can get this error message to appear? That seems to be the only place I find the message, it doesn't just pop up or anything. I too have checked like 10 times to make sure all the other display settings are correct, like automatically adjust tone and such. It sucks that auto brightness cannot be fine tune with the slider like it could on the note 2. I'm finding it very strange that instead of adding to features of the Note 2 to make this phone better in every area they chose to remove some great features leaving me wishing I did not upgrade.

It sounds like thermal throttling. LG phones have this, in particular the Optimus G and G Pro. I haven't had the problem on my G2 yet. It's designed to lower the brightness and lower the cpu speed in order to keep the phone from overheating.

True my LG Optimus G pro does this but there is a way to turn it off in the system menu accessible from the dialer. I have turned mine off and the phone no longer does this and has not gotten hot or anything. Wish there was a way to do this on the samsung as my S4 exhibits this same behavior.
I'm thinking about getting a Note 3 today so I'm hoping can be shut off too. I shut it off on my G Pro and the G2 doesn't do it, which I'm very thankful for since I work outside as well.

Since we're on this subject, how often does it happen on the Samsungs? I would figure less often due to amoled not being as bright as LCD.

You may be better served to leave the auto brightness checked when your working outside. When on auto, it gets much brighter when needed than with the brightness slider cranked all the way up.

Note 3 automatic brightness settings problems
I have a Samsung Note 3 phone bought in Germany. I have the some strange problems with brightness settings too. Typically from time to time the phone screen just get too dark. Particular in economic mode the phone can get from time to time very dark and even setting auto brightness to +5 does not help.
I was using before both Iphone 5 and the first Samsung Note and some other phones and automatic brightness control was always working fine. In my new Note 3 the brightness is jumping sometimes suddenly.
JVogle: You can adjust the automatic brightness by pulling slider up or down. It can by set from -5 to +5. But in my case this thing do not help so much. Particularly this is a bigger problem again in economic mode.
This is rather a software issue, because when I switch to manual brightness it stays constant all the time.
Anybody knows how to cure it?
This is so annoying. Gotta wonder if it's a bug in one of Samsungs ****ty features causing it to happen so much. Even without brightness all the way up it happens

You have a different phone than me apparently. Also a different issue, as I'm referring ONLY to manual screen brightness setting. I would expect fluctuations with auto brightness. I've never had a device fluctuate when manually set to a desired % though. I also can't believe they removed the ability to adjust slider with auto brightness. Sadly the only thing better about this phone than my Note2 is the specs. The software and user experience has been sub Note2 for me in every aspect. I will most likely be switching back to the Note2.

What is everyone experiencing? I have a T-Mobile Nexus 6. I am running stock and not rooted. Apologies if this has already been covered, but I searched a couple of different ways and did not see anything.
Not sure what others are experiencing, but my Nexus 6 display will randomly wake into ambient mode even when I just have it sitting still on my desk or couch. There are no alerts that are driving it, so I am just wondering if others are seeing the same thing or if they have done anything with the settings to clear this issue.
I can't imagine that ambient display is a huge drain on the battery or anything, but it's not nothing. Plus it's distracting when it happens.
I've noticed mine coming on due to vibrations. I had it sitting on a minifridge next to my desk. I thought it was random too, but it turns out I was either knocking the side of my desk with my knee, or the fridge was kicking on/off.
Mine does it all the time. No movement to the phone or even around the phone. Hands no where near it. Just decides to wake up. I find the whole ambient display to be pretty annoying altogether honestly. Hoping devs can disable it and find a way to use the LED.
I saw a weird error message from LightFlow (which I installed and enabled to see what it would do). I wonder if this or other apps that are running in the background and potentially causing the screen wakes.
I will try uninstalling LighFlow to see if it improves the situation and report back with any news.
I think you might be right. I have the same problem but I didn't notice it when I first got the phone. I have installed lightflow and now that you mention it, this problem started soon after. So I just uninstalled lightflow and it already seems better.
When I installed that double tap to wake app it messed with ambient display and would turn it on, especially when the battery was low. I removed that app.
Since then I have also turned off ambient display because I found it fairly useless and feel it is using battery for very little benefit. If it flashed faster or kept flashing until I checked it I think I'd use it.
I turned it off because I had it sitting on a table with nobody touching the table and it kept coming on. I couldn't get light flow to get the light working unfortunately, hopefully there is a fix coming.

root phone, install light flow, disable ambient display.
it's already been done.
i use light flow and it works perfectly, sans flashing LED but that seems hardware/kernel blocked.
It seems that LightFlow is what was causing the issue as I haven't noticed the screen waking since uninstalling it yesterday.

Hi,
I never had an amoled screen but I heard that you can get burn-in on those screen.
So I avoided phone with amoled but I really like the note 9.
I would like to know if it easy to get burn-in when you use app like google maps, with your notifications bar (battery, ..), or onscreen nav button, ect...
Thanks for yous reply.
I've never gotten burn in on any AMOLED phone I've owned (Galaxy S3, Note 4, Note 5, S7 Edge, Note 8, S9 (three of them) and the Note 9). I use the phone a lot.
Is it possible? Sure. LCD is possible, too. Just don't keep static images onscreen for hours on end
I've had an AMOLED phone since the Galaxy S2, and have kept each phone for at least 1-3 years. By my count that is the S2, S3, S4, S5, S7 Edge, and now the Note 9. I have been using Google Maps and Navigation on all of these devices, and I have never experienced any screen burn in. Not once. In fact, I have never heard of it being an issue. Yes, I knew it could happen, but I have never heard of it happening outside of isolated cases. The Note 9 has one of the best displays of any phone out there, don't let this non-issue stop you.
When I first get my AMOLED Smartphone/Tablets I never use brightness over 20 to 30% I run it like that for about 3+ months. I blend the displays in, well that’s my theory!
I have a Tab S 8.4 LTE my daily driver! It’s over 4 + years old! Not a mark of screen burn in see it all depends how you use your display! I’ve seen people complaining there AMOLED display have burn in 2 months in! But when you ask them where the brightness set to 80% was even 100% it’s too bright it hurts your eyes!
You don’t need 80% TO 100% unless your real blind ? Seriously use your phone sensibly you will be fine pp.’s I’ve done many 8+ hour round trip Google maps on my TAB S 8.4 there’s no sign of burn in on my AMLOED display!! AMOLED IS KING!!
Just leave the brightness on auto. In full sunlight in my car, the screen is maximally bright. On long trips, that may be for 8 hours at a time or more. That's not a routine thing for me, but still never any issues.
that was one thing i was worried about too, this is my first samsung/amoled phone. I have read here and there, some people get burn ins as early as one week of usage and some never, cant say every screen is perfect and everyone uses their phones differently.
a small tip, what i have done is using the app "routine" to set my brightness to 35% and auto rotate on when connected to bluetooth of my car. It locks it at that brightness, and of course you can manually turn it up if you wish. this saves me the trouble when the phone auto adjust it to max most of the time.
if youre worried just for that one app ie. google maps, you can set it so that only when you launch that app and connected to that specific bluetooth to lock in the brightness at 35%.
I have also set my google maps night mode always on.

Hi everyone,
Got my Pixel 4 XL on the 23rd and been playing around with it since then. I am now settling into a rhythm and noticed a very concerning glitch with the display when the phone is in dark mode. Basically, when the phone is in dark mode I noticed that typing in Gboard or tapping anywhere on screen in apps that are not pure black (such as Messages, Phone, etc.) will shift the screen colour from blueish-black to greenish-black. This happens every time, even after rebooting the device. There is no visible colour shifting in apps that use pure-black such as Settings (however, parts of Settings like the search bar that are the "gray" dark colour also shift). Once I noticed this happening now I cannot stop noticing it everywhere. I am looking to find out from you whether you are seeing the same thing or whether this may be a device problem. Note that the same issue shows up in dark apps even if dark mode is not enabled. It also has nothing to do with Ambient EQ, Automatic Brightness, or anything else of similar nature. Occasionally the problem stops, but if I pull up Gboard and start typing (say to search in the Recent section of the phone app) the problem immediately comes back.
I am looking for serious feedback here from those willing to look closely. This does seem like a software glitch to me, rather than hardware, especially since I am not seeing this behaviour with any other colours and so far it definitely has something to do with physical interaction with the screen when tapping on it. As I said, it also seems to be universally triggered by Gboard when in apps running in dark mode.
I appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Edit: Looks like what I'm observing is related to the switching colour profiles when the display is going back and forth between 60Hz and 90Hz. Turning off the smooth display function or forcing the display into permanent 90Hz mode appears to stop the problem from happening. Google really messed this one up. I hope their 90Hz fix they promised clears up this issue. Very annoyed ?
Thanks,
Dejan
Btw, since you are using forced 90hz display make sure to have always on display on. If you don't your greys will be purple and lower brightness as well as lots of black smear/crush. I don't know how turning on always on display solved that issue (someone posted this fix in another thread). So it indeed doesn't seem to be hardware but software related and hopefully they will tune this over time.

Yeah, I saw that thread. Some funky stuff going on with display calibration and 90Hz. Since I know that the HW is not defective and the SW is the source of the issue I am less bothered now (I cannot stand exchanging HW). I haven't specifically observed that effect on my phone and while I did try forcing 90Hz, I actually went back to the stock setting since I noticed that forced 90Hz further sucked down the battery that already is not particularly stellar despite this being the XL version. I presume Google will refine the 90Hz calibration and function over the next few months. I will say though that I am a bit confused why they need to have different calibration at different refresh rates. I calibrate all of my desktop monitors and despite the fact that I have a 100Hz monitor I never have to change calibration with refresh rate. Maybe an OLED thing

I just noticed this on my pixel 4 xl tonight. But It only happens when the proximity sensor is triggered. Ex: like after making a phone call except it made everything on the screen seem over saturated on the screen and well as the same color shift you had stated. It seems to go away once I lock the device and unlock it again. It did it with smooth display on and off as well as force 90hz on and off.
There are a couple threads discussing this. Here's one of them:

Hello how are you ?
I tell you that I have the OnePlus Ace (converted to 10R) for about 6 days and since yesterday Wednesday after updating I began to notice that the clock in always on display was marked on the display of the phone, the same happens to me with other applications like Facebook or Instagram and not to mention the notification bar.
The strange thing is that after having a good time it goes away.

It is never a good idea to use Always On with oled displays. These type of screens are prone to that, of course not in 6 days, but, letting it all day on, specially with a display that suffers with burn in, sooner or later this will happen.
In your case, you could try the refund or return policy from aliexpress, either way I'm pretty sure you will lose money.
If the text doesn't move vertically every dozen or so seconds in AOn mode, keep it disabled (check after each OTA/custom ROM). In case you got a burn-in while the phone does proper moving of the AOn text, that's definitely a display hardware defect.
