Hey guys,
Just recieved my Pixel 5.
I noticed that if you nod slightly in the midle of the Display it sounds like the Display has air under it.
Like a gap between the Display and the inside of the device.
If i squeeze the Display in the midle i notice that i can push it.. I dont know maybe a Millimeter?
I have also a pixel 4a and IT doesnt feel that cheap like the pixel 5.
Is it just my device or do you guys have the same issue?
Thx
I read that it's because the speakers are below the screen.
I'm coming from a Samsung S10e and the screen of the pixel 5 seems plasticky when I tap it. The Samsung feels so much more solid.
Not sure about speakers though as the 5 has the one at screen top and one at bottom.
Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
The display sounds hollow. Probably another side effect of speakers or stuff behind the display that was hidden to make the screen bigger.
The Pixel 4 display wins in this area. Taps are solid unlike the Pixel 5.
I think I've used a Pixel 2 XL (not the smaller Pixel 2) and was also a hollow like the Pixel 5. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's what one teardown mentions. "There’s a driver under the display that actually makes that panel vibrate and transmit sound". That would definitely make the display sound funny when tapped.

But not the smaller one. I still have that one and it's quite sturdy like the Pixel 4.
The 2XL was hollow, I remember when a friend bought one and I noticed that.
Anyway.. I couldn't be happier with the Pixel 5. And I'm glad Google reduced the € price from 750€~ to 600€~
So I can tolerate things like hollow display. But yeah. This makes the vibrations a bit worse.

This would be a off-topic from my side:
I suppose you are assuming that because I said I couldn't be happier with the device.
Look, I don't have that terrible gap I've seen in some photos. But that doesn't mean there is no gap at all. It is uniform and if you look really really hard you can start to believe there is raise in the top left corner. But basically looks uniform on the 4 sides.
In summary: I can probably fit a "razor blade" if I try between the glass and the case.
But it doesn't bother me.
If you want to know what really bothered me about my pre-order: Is Google rejecting my pre-order gift because I shipped the phone outside UK using Amazon.co.uk. I knew it was a risk. But I have a lot of friends in UK that could had received the pre-order gift without an issue for me (and that was my plan). But they told me that because I decided to ship the phone outside UK then I'm automatically removed from the deal. Just didn't want to bother my friends to receive the phone (in case I needed to return it in the returning period OR in case I need to sent it for RMA and want to deal directly with Amazon).
I can still return the Pixel 5 with UPS and maybe order in the future for less money on deal (instead of 610£).
But I decided to keep it. The battery is amazing. And in the 4 it was very limited. Enough for most days but short for any heavy usage day.
If I have to compare the battery life with the 4. This feels like a phone with 5200-5600mAh. Because it almost lasts me the double.
What I really promised to myself is to never pre-order a Pixel again. I pre ordered many Nexus devices. The pixel 2, 4 and 5. This is it. No more pre orders.

All the defect and issues treads are making me sad. We bought a phone to enjoy it not sit and complain about it.
I'll start by naming a few things I like. The speakers in my opinion actually sound good. There's plenty of bass and it's not full of tremble. I can actually do homework and play music with out issues.
The screen has nice colors and really pops out at ya. Ya there's bad viewing angle but who looks at there phone from the side. These are a few things I like so far.
All in all I find this an improvement all around. It's a $350 device and I will enjoy it tell the nexus 6.
Thanks.

right now i'm stoked. however, i may end up getting one of those red cases from the play store, because the ever so slight camera lens protruding out from the back drives me crazy when laying on a completely flat surface, it rocks tops left to bottom right lol
Ya a case is almost needed with the camera sticking out like that. I've been a big fan of diztronic cases, which should be here soon.

Been an android fan for years, and have always rooted tweaked my phones grew tired of it, used the iphone 5 for the past 7 months and really enjoyed not wanting to tweak the phone or anything. Longest I kept a phone within the past 3-4 years. Typically trade or sell every android phone I've had.
Nexus 5
love the feel & size of the phone, screen is pretty solid. Android kit kat OS is pretty solid very happy with it, not all the apps are working thought, still need updates on some. No complaints on speakers, screen etc... only issue for me is battery, will get a solid 7-9 hours use but I do need to place on the charger at work to be able to use it all day. Typically off the charger at 530 am and not home till about 7-8pm.
Posted on craigslist and have few offers that I'm considering
Galaxy s4 with spigen matte black slim armor view case
moto x plus a nexus 7 32gb
iphone 5 32gb
iphone 5s 16gb
Main concern is battery, need something to last all day for me with medium to heavy use. Root and new kernel?
I ordered two one for me and one for a friend, both are perfect, no rattling power buttons, no dead pixels maybe I'm just lucky but I love my nexus 5.
I'm not sure if I'm lucky, or the people who are satisfied and not having issues are just keeping quiet, but I have none of the issues commonly mentioned in the defects thread
-- Very minimal backlight bleed
-- Vibration motor is fine... maybe a LITTLE soft, certainly not loud.
-- No dead pixels
-- Speaker sounds fine
-- No rattling or loose buttons
I have the black 32GB model. I must say, I'm absolutely LOVING the device. Android 4.4 is beautiful, the device is screaming fast (anyone coming from a Galaxy Nexus must just be thrilled). The screen is gorgeous... everything about it is just great.
Interestingly, my favorite thing of all might be the soft-touch back. Yes, it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but wow does it make holding and navigating the device comfortable. It feels wonderful.
No complaints whatsoever.

Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the Google Pixel 2 feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The phone feels great in hand, it has a nice powdery metal finish on the back that gives it a bit of grip. The phone is a tad smaller than I expected in comparison to my Nexus 5X, but i'm not gonna knock it down because of that. I do intend to get a rhinoshield bumper, which should add just the bit of size and protection I want.
Some context: My phone history up until the last few months has been a reliable new phone every two years system. Original Evo 4G, Evo 4G LTE, HTC One M8, HTC 10, and then in the last couple of months I've been trying out quite a few, the S8, The Essential Phone, now the Pixel 2.
It's a big adjustment moving from "bezelless" options to a 5" screen, but oh man, my early review of the ergonomics is that it's the most comfortable phone I've held since my Evo 4G LTE (which was back in the 4.7" screen days). Excellent reachability for all parts of the screen with one hand and without having to reposition or stretch. It feels great so far!
Is stable enough on the hand, to use it without a case? (I haven't used a case for black Nexus 5 and black Nexus 5X BUT I had to use a case on Z5 Compact and have to use a case on my current 6P because these two are slippery)

It's very similar to the Nexus 5 in terms of hand feel. Almost as grippy, pretty much the same weight and balance.
The 6P was too slippery and was not as comfortable to hold.
I don't see a need for a case for the Pixel 2.

Phone is very comfortable coming from an original Pixel. A bit grippier than the original but I can say without a doubt that it feels less durable in hand than the 1. I had the casemate wallet style on the Pixel and will probably do the same for the 2.

I was OK with the Nexus 5. But with the Galaxy Nexus I was much better than with the 5.
(And with the Moto X, also 4.7" like the Galaxy Nexus, much better than any other Android phone I've tried).
I'll plan to use my Pixel 2 without case if it's not slippery
Otherwise, some Dbrand maybe, but I think the dbrand with grip is the "dragon" one and it's ugly for the pixel imo...
Coming from s6 screen is the same size but phone is like half the thickness and half the weight. The phone is super easy to use in one hand. I've got nothing bad to say about it ergonomicly

Just got my Pixel 2 today. Yeah it's a bit slippery to me. At the moment I'm travelling through Prague and with the cold weather my hands are so dry that the phone ends very slippery.
I need a case asap. Would love to have something that doesn't cover the glass corners. 100% clear and ultra thin.

It's feel good in the hands with the premium build of it. Despite the opinions on it. I'd say that the whole phone size is a bit larger then it should be seeing as how it's only a 5" screen.
Feels very high quality.
Also think it's a lot bigger than it should.
And the most important thing is that it is really slippery to be used without a case or something that adds more grip.

Great Feel
Firstly, I'm a case guy, regardless of the phone (unless it's absolutely bulletproof, and then still no guarantees) so I have a case on it. But I kinda feel bad putting a case on this phone which feels so good. I'm switching over from a Nexus 5x and my first reaction was "wait what did I just pay $600+ for??", but after a few hours I realized that the feel alone says flagship phone (obviously that's not the main reason I appreciate the phone, but it's good to know I got my money's worth). Though I can't speak for the white phone, the Pixel 2 matt black has an amazing feel.
So for for the way it feels in the hand, 5stars!

The size is perfect, reminds me of the Nexus 5 and all the fond memories I had.
Despite the over-all footprint being a bit large with those bezels, the phone feels surprisingly good in the hand. It's not so slick that I worry about dropping it and the chamfered edges offer a bit of reassurance that it won't be easily dropped. The only other phone that fit my hand better was the Compact line of Sony Xperias. I hope they keep a similar footprint on the Pixel 3 when it inevitably switches to the horrendous 18:9 aspect ratio.

I did I went from pixel 2xl, to pixel 3axl, then op7. My pixel 2 was better than the 3a I thought. But I'm loving this op7. So far my favorite and I'm on Verizon
How could you compare the 2 XL with OP 7 ( Pro ) ?
What about the battery life ?
It seem to be not as good as the 2 XL one ?

Totally worth it,speed is faster and screen is larger and better,I love it.you should try it,bro
I upgraded from a 2XL. It was well worth the money. The display is miles ahead, I consistently try 5+ hrs of SOT after owning since a week after launch. Software experience has been A+. Only real gripe I've had with this phone is the size is kinda unwieldy. I've gotten over it though. Don't use camera much, so that is not something I can really comment on. Speakers are also better than my 2xl as far as quality goes IMO. No regrets here.
This is a great hardware and software upgrade! 7+Pro is my best DD for 2019! Cheers
Upgraded from 2XL.
The screen is miles ahead. Honestly, it's night and day. I didn't realise how terrible and "grainy" the pixel's screen was until I got this phone. The 1440p definitely makes a difference to clarity at this screen size, and the contrast, colours, black crush, viewing angle etc. Are just miles better.
The 90Hz is nice. It just makes everything feel a bit smoother. I could still go back to 60Hz quite easily, but in comparison it feels juddery.
The build quality of the OP7 Pro is really nice. The pixel had curved edges, but not really in a way that affected the actual screen space. The curve on the Pro is more dramatic, and that has meant occasional accidental touches for me when lying in bed and using it one handed without a case.
Speaking of one handed, don't expect much of that with this device out of the box. Surprisingly, the overall footprint is very similar to the pixel 2 XL, but the screen is obviously much larger. In particular, the length of the screen is an issue. With my Pixel, I could use the rear sensor to pull down the notification shade, or shimmy my hand a little bit to reach items higher up the screen. That's not an option here, so I've been using reachability cursor instead, which works pretty well, but it's a still a downside to the phone.
In terms of weight and feel in the hand, I actually prefer the OnePlus, though. I like the little bit of extra weight, and it's balanced really nicely in the hand. The curved back makes it really comfortable to hand in portrait, though the weight and size can make it more uncomfortable in landscape.
Onto the camera. One of my main reasons for buying the pixel, but I realised I didn't even take that many. The 7Pro is worse, no two ways about it. But is bad enough to be annoying? Not for me. After the most recent updates, camera consistency is improved, although it's not quite there in all scenarios. The 7Pro oversaturates images more, which I find annoying, but that can always be fixed with Gcam or editing. The difference really isn't enough to be a turn off for the average user, and the wide and zoom lenses are a nice addition for composition, even if they're softer than the main sensor.

Hi guys,
Have a question for those who have access to the new Pixel 5. I'm currently using a Pixel 3 and am considering an upgrade to the new Pixel 5. But I'm concerned with the Snapdragon 765G that they have decided to put into this phone. From my understanding the 765G performs slower when compared to the 845 found in the Pixel 3. And even the camera sensors are the same between the 2 phones. So I'm just wondering if the upgrade is worth it or if I should wait for next year.
Has anyone had any issues when it comes to the processing speed of the 765G?
Obviously very early doors to try and compare them but...
I have a pixel 3xl and the pixel 5.
Feels the exact same for everything I've tried with it with a couple of exceptions.
Pixel 3XL is slightly quicker opening the edit menu on portrait shots.
Pixel 5 is definitely holding more apps in RAM so less time spent relaunching apps
90hz screen is lovely and makes it feel like the pixel 5 opens and processes things quicker. In reality it's taking the same time, just looks better doing it
Not tried anything more challenging yet like color grading 4k video yet, but I'll try it out later
Pixel 5 camera is better in low light, especially the portrait shots. The wide angle also looks great nearly on par with main shooter

No lag taking photos at all took loads earlier without issue. Just a bit of delay in the photos app to process. Same as pixel 3.
I have a Pixel 5 now and I have my old Pixel 3 still here.
What can I say?... The only things I like about the Pixel 5 better are better battery life, more RAM and aluminium body.
The screen is not brighter, it even seems to have a more yellow-ish tint while the Pixel 3 display was just bright white (side to side comparison with full display brightness).
The speakers are awful, especially the one under the glass. It sounds so tinny and has very low volume, I have serious problems hearing the caller when it's getting a bit louder around me. The "stereo speakers" are a joke when watching a video. compared to the down firing speakers the one under glass is barely audible.
The full screen display is not very convenient for daily usage imo. I always tend to "hold" the phone on the chin bezel with my pinky finger and it happens often that it touches the screen and closes the app or changes to a different one.
As good as the P5 feels in the hand, and how good the camera is..... I like my P3 (not xl) more in the end. I even like the P3's bezels more than the full screen of the P5. (and I still didn't get over the punch hole for the camera)

Interesting to hear about your screen brightness. My P5 is quite a bit brighter than my 3XL when both on max brightness. Both are white with no sign of tint. Maybe you have a bad panel?
Speaker under the glass on my P5 is also poor.
I get the bezels points I had gotten used to having the chin and the notch to hold onto!

After some more testing I would say that the P5 doesn't have a slight yellow tint but the P3 (not XL) has a blue tint. I think now the P5 display looks a bit more natural.
Surprisingly both displays look the same in Nightlight Mode.
I just hope there will be an update to fix the speaker's low volume.
The 90Hz display isn't a big deal as I thought. I can use my P3 without even noticing the difference in normal usage (of course I notice it when I look for the differences). I think the P5 would be fine with 60Hz, or they should've gone for 120Hz.
Battery life so far is fantastic. (compared to the P3)

Can't see them changing the speaker volume much to be honest.
On screen refresh I guess everyone is different. My P5 is a lot smooth than my 3XL when scrolling Twitter. If I compare the P5 to my friends S20 on 120hz I can't see a difference. On my PC though I can tell the difference between 120 and 144hz! Maybe the size of the screen makes it less obvious to me?
yes, when using side by side it's absolutely noticable.
I wanted to say that it's not that important to me when it comes to normal daily usage, because I just don't notice it anymore (or I don't give it attention anymore after a while).
I also have a 144Hz display for my computer, and that is a difference you can always tell, without having a 60Hz display side by side with it. But I think the G-Sync (or any sync technology) here is the more important feature.

Absolutely couldn't agree more with everything you said.
If my pixel 3 didnt have a broken camera and charging port I'd keep it.
Battery lasts about twice as long on the PIxel 5 - I miss the "blue'ish" screen and "2-button" mode though.
I'm wondering if it's just my phone or if they are all like this.
When tapping the screen with my finger/nail it feels a bit hollow or tin-y if that makes sense?
Anyone else?
It's probably because of the mid range CPU, mate.
On a serious note, I haven't noticed anything like this.
You will notice there are no speaker grilles, Its because they are behind the screen, hence why it may feel a bit hollow
Exactly what i noticed first thing I started using this phone. Coming from oneplus 8pro taping on screen on oneplus 8pro feels more sturdier compare to pixel.
Coming from 3xl I have noticed it pretty much straight away. I can live with it but personally that bothers me more than plastic back would.
Overall phone is a mixed feeling experience without real alternative in my eyes. Roll on Pixel 6 ?

Same with my P5. What I particularly noticed is that the screen at the top right feels most "hollow" and makes some kind of rattling noise (if you get what I mean). I suppose this is either because of the inscreen speaker at the top, or because of the camera OIS? Do you get that different noise too when tapping at the top right display area?
