Hi there,
my Redmi Note 9 NFC version has a problem with its touch screen. For me, it is too sensitive, which means my finger hovers about 1 mm above the screen an the phone detects a touch, which is clearly wrong. That leads to wrong typing and all sorts of other annoying issues.
Does anybody of you know how to turn the screen less sensitive? The tips I read on the Internet are not applicable to the Note 9 or are simply useless.
Your input is highly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

If you searched the internet and found no one facing that issue on the same device then it might be just your unit with this problem. Anyways your phone has a warranty and contacting Xiaomi's support is recommended.
Sorry, don't think I can help you - I haven't come across this problem. Just tried to reproduce it myself but can't. Are you using a screen protector? If not, you might find it helpful to use one - they tend to dull the sensitivity a little, though if you're getting touches detected without any contact being made I suspect a screen protector might not help
that's unfortunate that no one has the same problem, which means it could be a hardware problem, which means I need to return it or take it to a service center.
I'm using the original screen protector, didn't tear it off. I had hoped there was some internal feature within the CIT, for instance, that I can use to recalibrate the touch screen, but it merely checks the touchscreen.
Hmmm, need to think about it a bit more.
I also have this problem , . I have a Redmi Note 9 pro EU version . My finger gets registered about 1 mm above the screen . Although I don't seem to have a problem with typing, it is annoying as sometimes the screen registeres my finger without touching by the screen witch leads to all sort of problems , ( like wrong friend requests on Facebook )

Starting a new thread since I could not find any existing thread on this and it is quite surprising since this is a widespread issue and for the same reason Samsung service here in Melbourne even refused to acknowledge this is an issue! There logic seemingly being if the issue is present in the demo unit in the store as well, it is not an issue! Vodafone has also refused to honor the warranty, even though it is in the first month of my contract and they should be replacing the handset and dealing with Samsung, and have instead told me to provide them with an acknowledgement from Samsung stating it is an issue! Talk about deadlocks!
Now coming to the issue, I have found out that there are sensitivity issues when using the S-Pen on the bottom right and left corners of the screen. There are issue on the top part of the screen as well but they arent as serious. I would also request you to check the same on your device and report back if you are also facing the same.
To check, first get into diagnostics mode by dialing *#0*# and then go to the S-Pen tab.
1. As you can see in the video, the bottom right and left corners have definite and serious issues with S-Pen sensitivity. I found this out, and it is also a use case and one of the major reasons that I went for Galaxy Note 5, while taking a screen grab from the middle of the screen right until the bottom right corner. I just could not do it. As soon as the S Pen reaches near the corner, the sensitivity issue makes sure that input isn't recognized. Not only this, even when it manages to identify the touch, the tracking is random with the S-Pen having a mind of its own.
2. The second issue is while drawing on the top part of the screen with the S-Pen but this one is not as serious as the first one. You can see in the video that S-Pen loses sensitivity in one particular area of the screen. This is easily corrected though, by pressing the S-Pen harder on the screen.
This is apart from the lag and slowness issues that rear their ugly head every once in a while and in a phone which runs an Octa Core CPU with a whopping 4GB of RAM. This is my first Samsung in a long long time and it has left me disappointed again exactly like it did in the past whenever I bought a Samsung phone. To me the level of polish of the hardware on a device costing as much as this is simply not acceptable. What are your thought? Please report in this thread if you are facing the same issue as I am with the S-Pen.

I have multiple stand-alone S Pens and don't experience what you're describing with them or the one included with the device.

Strange because I could replicate it on all the demo devices in the store. That is their reasoning for refusing the warranty as well.
I'll say this, the included pen is more responsive on the display than pens that are pre-Note 5 so something in the pen and/or display has changed.
Does it mean mine has a problem then? I am wondering if anyone else can also confirm the same?
I can confirm the bottom left and right corner of my note 5 behave just like OP's does... but wouldn't have found out if he didn't mention it

Thanks Alex. I found the issue because I could not take a screenshot which finished near the bottom corner of the screen. Now smart select is a headline feature of the phone and this hadrware oversight to be is just not acceptable. The Samsung service would not acknowledge it as an issue let alone do something about it. May be it is only on the first batch of phone. Who knows?
I checked my phone (SM-N9208 TW, mfg: will add later) and the bottom corners have poor tracking with the hover point flying off the screen when held above.
Overall this issue shouldn't affect the usability of the phone if you rarely use these areas since it's still possible though difficult to use the s-pen there.
Edit: I re-tested with my phone flat and s-pen vertical*. The s-pen can be used on the very bottom corners with precise movements, so I don't think will affect usability for most people most of the time.
*Having the s-pen on an angle can affect the tracking significantly as seen in your video. I think the only solution would be to modify the s-pen to track at the very tip. This would probably make the tip non-replaceable and/or more complex and expensive. If someone has time, try using the s-pen without a tip and see if/how it tracks.
Update: I tested a SM-N920W8 in store and it had the same corner issue.
I complained to Vodafone again and they decided to take the phone back. Back to trusty properly working iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. My last Samsung device no matter what the specs. I wouldn't be interested in one even if it will have a gazillion core CPU and few petabytes of RAM.
I have the same issue. Can anyone else, note 5 users confirm about this issue. (Bottom right hover issue)
I dont't face that problem
Edit: here is a screenshot

Mine does it a little bit.
It still passes the test so I believe it's within spec. I honestly don't see it being a warranty issue.

Sometimes, it is the Cover magnet.
Sometimes, it is the Cover magnet. . Try to remove you phone from it and try the s pen in the touch area in question. It worked for me with in a leather flip cover. The same for the s note stopping error message.
same here

if you have magnetic casing will get such problems ....
or fake s-pen need to replace with original or better fake quality
My stylus is overly sensitive; so much that I can't write properly. All text is in continuation even when I lift the stylus off for whitespace. I even followed the article on adjusting the sensitivity of the S Pen by removing the click-button cover and adjusting the Potentiometer. However, the note 4 s pen is entierly different as it doesn't have any Potentiometer under the click button. Link to article:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191333
What annoys me most is that I never had this issue before I flew overseas last month. I started experiencing this issue after I came back and it has rendered my s pen useless. Has anyone found a way to adjust Potentiometer on the new S spen yet (it might be located under top cap but i'm not sure how to open it).

I am having this same problem. Did you ever find a fix for it? Thank you!
Yes confirmation of problem
I found the same problem. If you try to draw a square in the S pen test mode you cannot draw a square in the bottom left or right corner. The square will turn into some kind of strange wiggle shape.
I live in Malaysia and went to the official Samsung head office service center and they confirmed this is a problem with all Note 5 models and the lady showed me her own personal Note 5 which had the same problem (actually worse than mine).
The service technicians said they do not know the reason for this problem. But as an electrical engineer I suspect there is some sensors in those areas which cause interference with the S Pen.
I am using one plus 3T last 18 days. It is one of the greatest phone i had ever seen. i am very happy with the phone but my problem is about touch sensitivity or touch problem. From the very beginning i download an app from play store which name is screen touch test. i saw that when i draw a line any where or normally draw something, every where it works fine i mean touch is perfectly registering but only when i touch right corner to the down side then it not respond. I have to touch there several times then it shows dot in apps but other corners dot are showing perfectly when touched. but if i draw a line from that corner or any where then it respond immediately. sometimes this corner works well. i never installer curved glass but using Nillkin H+ pro tempered glass. i bought it from china and am from Bangladesh. is it a software problem or hardware if hardware then i have to go for good shop. but it is not possible for me to go china. please revise my problem its urgent.
How is the touch working without a screen protector?
Are you actually seeing this problem in real day-to-day usage, or just the screen test app? Wondering if it's a case of looking for problems where they might not exist . . .
I never used without screen protector
No actually i think this problem will not be affected for others but some time when i touched that place it not respond. but if it is a problem then i should know because for this problem i think it could be affect my display. Thank you for this response.
Well, assuming you have similar problems in any app. And it's not just the testing app that sees this.
You have to test without the screen protector to eliminate it as a cause to your problem.
If it's the same without any protector attached then my guess is your touch screen is faulty.
But I would still start with a clean install to see if that fixes the problem since that is a less time consuming and cost free troubleshooting step, than sending it in for repairs and having them find out a reinstall fixed it.
But my question is if my screen is faulty then why it response when i draw lines but only create problem when that area is being touched. but if start touch from place and come to this point then it also works fine.
All of a sudden the lower part of display (about 7 mm) has become unresponsive to touch which means no more gestures (swipe up to get to home screen is not working) e struggle to use the classic navigation buttons.
Sadly I had the same issue in my mi5 but in that case phone had the issue since the unboxing.
I'm starting thinking the xiaomi touchscreen tend to be more fragile than others.
Now I'm waiting for gearbest support.
Anyone has any advice or similar experience?
I made a screen recording

Regarding Xiaomi Quality
While climbing into my truck, I dropped my Mi8 from a height of about 4 ft on accident and it landed flat on its face , on the concrete. Freaked out, I left it laying their for about a minute fearing that the screen had been smashed into a million pieces. However, I picked it up to see that it was fine, and not a single scratch. So I immediately went out and bought the Love Mei 360 case.
Anyway, regarding your touch issue, you should really provide more some information about how this issue came about, what rom were you using, did the phone get wet, etc.
Also, I had an issue with my Mi8 soon after unlocking the bootloader where the top part of the screen would not register my touches, I first tried recalibrating the screen using Miui hidden settings app, the test is called QMMI ( I think) and if I remember correctly there are several menus of testing that also calibrate the screen for me this worked and for good measure I reinstalled a Miui rom and havent had the issue since.
Try it, hopefully that is the only issue. If you are using a AOSP. It's possible that you have a driver issue. So before sending the phone off for service its worth testing.. If you are on stock and still have a locked bootloader, I would try resetting the phone before trying anything else.
Good Luck.
Some gravedigging, but the question is still on the table - have you managed to fix it?
Is any One Facing Touch Issues on Moto edge 20 pro device.
Check 987043122 post on the topic about Gpay, he talks about touch issue on Chinese model.
I bought mine in Australia and have the same issue. ehhh... Going to be a pain if I am going to have to go through warranty and all.
Hmmm... Just tested my own device (Edge S Pro) and couldn't reproduce the issue with Touch Screen Test app. Swipes near front camera (hole) work without any apparent issue. I'm using a GSI by the way and I didn't test this on stock FW before flashing (since the issue was not known at that time)...
Though I think if you're using a screen protector (including the built-in one) it'll definitely cause some issues when swiping near the front camera as there would be a hole around it.
Don't know if Google has guidelines that apps should not avoid displaying near the "notch" area, but some games on Play Store do put borders around the screen to maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio (which may not be the same as avoiding) so they're not affected as there would be nothing to press/swipe near the front camera. I recall having read that at one point Apple did have such guidelines (not sure how it is now).
I've just purchased one and I think I'm having issues when using the keyboard. Notice few times.
I'm having issues with my device.
Swiping from right hand side of the lower quarter of the screen, sometimes I get no respons.
Touch issues on the edge 20 and Pro is widely known, and known by Motorola. There is a software release that solves it ending with Q3-19-86 for the edge 20 pro.
It has started to rollout. I have recieved it, and it solves my problems, even with tempered glass applied (where the troubles was most visible before)
Motorola has added a function (under screen settings- advanced) to improve touch screen sensitivity when using glass protector + Optimized other touch related code.
Can't wait for the update...also having the problem with touch, in auto mode as well as 144hz. It is dependent on the brightness of the screen - most likely to occur when above 70% (which for this phone is alot of the time), and I found that temporarely it is fixed if I turn the screen off and on again. The problems are sluggish response to touch, right swipe not working, ghost touches on link that I scrolled over, bunch of stuff opening up unwantedly, typing produces multiple same characters. Hope it is fixed, I really like this phone apart from that.
Hi mates, I need you help and suggestons,
unfortunately my phone felt down and I needed to change screen, the service which installed it asked me to choose one of the available (chinese) screens I I select the most expensive one. In the beginning all was ok, but time by time (about 1,5months) the usage gests worst, when the screen start to be a bit dirty it start recognize touches anywhere (moslty in the up side of screen), itself does commands, it's not possible to do nothing. WHen this happens I need to keep press the power button for 10 seconds tille ht ephone reboots, after reboot all become regular.
My considerations:
1) it doesn't seams a defective screen or a bad assembly, because after reboot all is good, if there were such problems a simple reboot can't fix them.
2) it looks like an incompatibility between OS and the touchscreen firmware, and probably it's something Xiaomi does with intention to create problems for cloned spare parts. Maybe the OS is "instructing" the touch screen controller how much sensibility to use, how much it can be dirty, etc.etc? the protocol of the latest OS isn't at all compatible with the cloned device and it result on crash of functioning. A reboot solves the problem.
If that is right, will a ROM update to another OS (not IMOU, as I have now) can fix the problem? Or there is any app that can perform a touch screen reset? Or any other trick to solve my problem? Than you for answers
Hi mates I need help, with cold weather coming it got crazy as soon it feels cold. WHat can I do to solve problem?
Updating ROM to a non official can solve it? The display isn't broken! A reboot fixes always the problem..
It is not original screen from xiaomi vendors, just a oem part with lower quality (chinese sell it alot on aliexpress with many type amoled, oled and LCD panel too).
Ghost touch easy happen on oem screen no matter how expensive it is.
Thank you for your kind answer, this is a really big issue.. it's very annoying using the phone like that, I've noticed it suddelny starts when the phone is exposed to cold temperature: lowering the screen temperature quite suddenly means it goes crazy, when it's crazy the only way to fix the proble is reboot the phone, with reboot it calibrates again and works ok, till next event. MY question are:
1) Can I forse myself a calibration?
2) Does other ROMs, not MUI, manage and fix this problem? (using another touch driver may solve the problem, chances are MUI introduced updates and become more selective to work with only original displays, to disancurage the OEM parts, so using another ROM wuth an older driver may solve the problem)
3) If I buy and add a protective glass on display, does it behave better?
Your experience is essential for me, thank you for posting!

imo
1. you can not
2. Roml sorfware can not
3. Protective glass make lower touch experience.
- Not all oem part come with defect, some working fine, it is just random.
- To repair you need replace new one, or buy original screen for sure.
Thanks for answer, I do believe that the problem can be managed by drivers, "resettig" the touch chip wil correct the problem. Probably the defect is on the firmware of the touch panel, it gots errors from touch.. ok, but it doesn't understand it's just revealing mre and more ghost touches. These FW have the task to filter out the ghost,, maybe they don't do it well.
A second chance is the comuinication between this chip and the MUI OS, the connection goes broken by some mistakes, "unalligned" and MUI got any touch position from nothing.
I don't believe the screen is defective, because after reboot it works perfectly, thil the next strong environment conditions change..
What is Roml software?
