Android 10 GSI - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Guides, News, & Discus

I have tested many GSIs on my T510 and finally found the GSI best for tablet users. It deosn't have any tablet specialized UI but it can be customized to give a better experience over the others- https://sourceforge.net/projects/treblerom/files/BLESS/2020.10.15/bless-v224-201015-a64-bvN.img.xz/download
It has Slim Recents, Safety Net passes, Selinux Enforcing and Nice Quick Setting Panel. Screenshots- http://imgur.com/a/TmYgvUh
Bugs- If brightness goes below 10% then it becomes too dark to see anything so you have to focus light on the screen to faintly see anything and turn the brightness up (It is the bug in all the GSIs by the way, it is not GSI sided but vendor sided), so don't keep the brightness too low.

everything else working fine? and can you please provide instruction on how to install these gsi builds

Everything seems to work fine except a few UI hiccups here and there which are quite expected in GSI builds. Moreover due to heavy customization you get lesser free RAM than the other.
Instructions- Download and unzip this GSI in internal storage, SD card or USB-OTG then flash that image into system partition by choosing 'system partition' while installation, flash gapps (ARM) and reboot to system.

Flashed system image but when I tried opengapps ARM 10 nano, I get an error 70. Can you link to a gapps that is known to work with this image? I did wipe before flashing.

Go to Wipe then advanced wipe then choose system and resize it. If shows an error do it again. Now you'll be able to flash gapps.

re-size worked but apparently the ROM doesn't like my ugly face. The facial recognition app keeps crashing during setup, and I can't get past it.

GSIs are meant to work on wide range of devices and tablets at the last, face unlock perhaps works on officially supported devices. But again may be cuz devs are lazy to remove it.

I installed it based on YOUR advice that it worked on THIS tablet. So, I'm assuming there must be a solution to the problem of the setup wizard demanding FR when FR doesn't work. How do I get around it?

[RECOVERY][TREBLE] TWRP Recovery for Zenfone 3

This is a TWRP fully Treble-ready with "Treble enabler" option in order to repartition safely the device.
Features:
TWRP fully Treble-ready;
Maintained with latest TWRP version;
Fully compatible with non-Treble devices - can be used as normal without Treble partitioning;
USB-OTG fixed
Has 'TWRP survival' function for automatically re-installing TWRP recovery when installing ROMs and kernels;
Adds a "Treble enabler" option that allows you to repartition your device in order to support Treble.
Has the option to shrink userdata to create Vendor partitions. All relevant partitions will be resized and formatted in one go.
If you shrink Userdata, it will ERASE DATA AND INTERNAL STORAGE COMPLETELY - but your device will stay compatible with all existing non-Treble ROM's
Instructions
Flash the recovery.
Reboot Recovery
Optional - Use the "Advanced > Treble enabler" option for repartition option.
If you opted to repartition for Treble, you are ready to flash a Treble ROM/Vendor pack.
About TWRP survival
TWRP survival is a simple hook that detects if a boot.img will be installed and restores TWRP after it's flashed. This only works if you have booted TWRP with Tissot Manager 2.0 from a real recovery boot - NOT from a recovery 'hot boot' (fastboot boot method).
You will see in the install log if a TWRP survival attempt is successful in the flash text output.
Automatic TWRP survival works when:
Flashing a ROM ZIP (or AIO) with TWRP
Flashing a boot.img in TWRP "Install Image" mode
Automatic TWRP survival does NOT work when:
Flashing a boot.img via fastboot
Restoring boot in a TWRP backup
Any other way of flashing a boot.img
In these cases, be sure the use the TWRP Installer immediately after flashing or restoring a backup - otherwise you may get the device into a confused state (especially if you restore a non-TWRP boot then try to install an AIO ROM without installing a new TWRP first).

FAQ
Q) After I flash TWRP, I get kicked into fastboot when trying to boot the ROM!
A) Your kernel is not Treble-compatible.
Q) How do I update TWRP?
A) Just flash the ZIP installer again, then Reboot Recovery. Note that this will erase Magisk on BOTH slots if you have it installed to either, requiring you to reflash it to one/both slots. See my Treble guide FAQ section for more info on Magisk interaction.
Q) My PC can't see the MTP (storage) device from TWRP!
A) For dualboot compatibility, MTP is automatically disabled at various points. Just enable it manually in the Mounts menu to get access.
Q) If I shrink Userdata for Treble, will stock and OTA work?
A) I have heard varying results on this. It does for some, not for others. Please assume that this will NOT work.
Q) Can I restore a non-Treble TWRP backup after I repartition for Treble? And the other way around?
A) Yes!
Q) I see "Failed to mount '/system' (Device or resource busy)" red error in TWRP after flashing a ROM
A) You can safely ignore it. You just need to reboot recovery before you can flash anything else (like Gapps) to this ROM.

But then I see no difference from a "normal" ROM ported specifically to a device. Should not Treble support be able to use them on several different devices?
For example, should not I be able to go to the AEX Treble download area and use it on ZF3? If it would not be the same as having to wait for a dev port AEX to ZF3.
I'm really confused lol

What do you expect? It's still in an early stage of porting. Some device specific bits still run from /system. GSI's may work but I doubt anything will work properly.
And I don't plan of supporting GSIs anyway.

So what's the difference of the Lineage Treble for a Lineage normal running in ZF3?

Currently nothing much ( updated proprietary bits + vendor image taken in place )
Maybe in the near future when everything is in place. I'll seperate Vendor image from builds ( noticable smaller updates )

Well, repartition works fine. After repartition a new /vendor partition of 1024mb will be made.
Although, you'll loose your data (apps+personal). So make sure to do a full backup of your device.
Feedback:
* HAVE A BACKUP. This tool messes with your partition table and is still unstable. Your data partition can be resized to the wrong size.
Will come back after a few months to provide more feedback. Appreciate the work guys.
Works fine for me, data is correctly resized even with multiple changes from normal to treble and back...
Can't seem to wipe /cache partition.
Anyone knows why?

Well, that's normal.
Since you're going to make a new /vendor partition of about 1024mb, /data should be deleted & recreated in order to give some space to the new partition.
Also, what do you mean with "can be resized to the wrong size"?
The tool is pretty stable tho. Can you give more info such as model (ex. ZE552KL 4/64), script version (ex. 4.3b) & other?
Thanks.
I've successfully installed this tool, although attempting to install the new LOS 16 Android 9 ROM we have on this forum results in an error: 7, "Failed to mount '/vendor' (Invalid argument)"
From what I've perused so far in my research, that error mostly crops up on non-treble builds of TWRP, yet I definitely used the latest version from your website. I also redownloaded the latest version of LOS just to recheck, and yep, nothing's changed.
Any clue about what's going on here? I don't know much about Treble ROMs, or custom ROMing to be all honest.
EDIT: I have found the enable Treble option. Even when enabled and installed, after reboot, the /vendor partition cannot be read. It seems that after doing this too, I can't load files over USB, or mount my SD Card. I'm getting pretty confused as to what's happening. I can't boot into system, and fastboot won't connect to my PC.

[GUIDE] GSI for US V40

Greetings everyone, i go by the name Ainz Ooal Gown. Here i bring you the a guide to flash GSI roms to your V40
Fist things first if you try this and end up with a brick or your device transforms and tries to take over the world; it's not my fault you messed up not me. So just read all of this thread not just the O.P to, and get out of a bind if you reply with "the thread is too long i wont read it please help" don't expect anything short of "there's a search bar use it"
Requirements
Unlocked bootloader
TWRP
Installation guide:
You need to download Lineage OS 16 by Xsavi i recommend the build "lineage-16.0-20190914-UNOFFICIAL-judypn(More LG Stuff use this).zip". Put into your external SD
You need to download a GSI from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development i personally recommend Havoc OS 2.9 and Resurrection Remix 7.0 download the Arm 64 A/B Variant and what ever recommended Gapps Package is linked.
Extract the GSI you downloaded and copy the extracted Folder into your external SD.
Boot into TWRP and check your active Slot in the reboot menu.
Flash LOS 16 Install -> select the ROM zip -> tick Inject TWRP -> Swipe for install (if you're on a, it will be installed to b, and vice versa).
Go to and select Reboot Menu -> select your inactive slot -> select recovery and you should reboot into your inactive slot.
Go to and select Wipe Menu -> Swipe to factory reset
Select install and navigate to your downloaded GSI -> select install image -> select the GSI image -> select the bubble next to "System Image" -> Swipe to Custom Flash.
Select the wipe menu -> select advanced wipe -> select the square next to "System" -> select "Repair or Change File System" -> select Resize File System -> Swipe to Resize.
Install any Gapps and/or Magisk and reboot.
You will probably have to add your Carriers APN settings for Data and MMS to work.
Thanks to: @SGCMarkus @Xsavi

On step 9, I get a failed error on resize. The error is:
Code:
/sbin/e2fsck -fp /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/
system_b process ended with ERROR: 1
Unable to repair system
Anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: I tried to install gapps after this, but it failed because of insufficient space. Went to check the /system partition size, and it only has 65MB free out of 1637MB. Is there a way to restore the original partition size and start from scratch?

You can always factory reset after flashing gapps to get all your stuff synced and what not...or just add your account after and it may tell you to finish setting up.

If you mean Los 17 from SGC Markus? Then nope his rom has its own instructions and if you mean as a base for GSI well you can try but I haven't had any luck.
Is there a way to remove the GSI without reflashing the whole thing? RR is having an issue with the camera that is still in development. Is there any way to revert to the LOS 16 without losing my data?

Android 10 Ported Pixel Experience

Android Version : Android 10 Ported Pixel Easy recovery install.
You should be having proper knowledge of flashing Custom ROM and how to Restore a phone if anything goes wrong.
Take complete backup before taking any action based on this thread. I am not responsible for any action taken by you.
I am just compiling all the information / files available on different websites into this thread, I have patched together with cyber spit, bubblegum, and tape, for a pretty much fully working Android 10 running rom. I have removed what I believe to be all of the bloat. Worked to modify a working android 10 vendor. Latest Magisk 19.5 installer is all ready included as of Oct 10th 2019 as well as the modified boot for root access. Gapps are also included for a fully functioning playstore.
All Credit goes to respective developer/s. I request XDA moderator and or Developer of Respective files to let me know if I have forgotten to mentioned (give credit) their name in this thread. The Download Links are given directly from respective Developer/s.
You need the following two files to run Android 10 on Mi Max 2 (Oxygen). This ROM recovery is ported with many patches and customized from various sources. This ROM maybe Stable enough for your daily use on Mi Max 2. I have access to two MM2 4/64 Global versions using a 1tb sd card one on At&t the other on Tmobile.

Click Wipe then Advance wipe and clear System, Vendor, Boot, Data, Cache, and Dalvick cache.
Second step:
Now Extract the Downloaded Rom files in Recovery backup folder. You should know where and how to Extract. (Use extract tool for android or pc then copy paste to recovery backup folder.)
Third step:
Click Restore and Select System, Boot, Vendor and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any errors, Reboot recovery and try again. Or Mount the System, Vendor, Boot and try again. After Restore completes Reboot. Please allow 1-2 Minutes for first boot, Ignore any errors.
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you make any further updates / patches that makes this ROM more stable / perfect or enables new features, please don't hesitate to message me to include in this thread.
I have an old PC running windows with 8gb HDD (Asus 901 eeepc) max at any one given time, So if you would like to make the recovery image into a flashable zip, I'd be happy to update/add it.
If you can afford it, Im trying to save for a computer from this decade, any help is appreciated

LineageOS 17 GSI Rom working on A40 Confirmed

Hi. Just wanted to say that LineageOS 17 is indeed working on my Samsung Galaxy A40.
By wiping everything except internal storage and flashing the A/B image of LineageOS 17, I got it working on my A40. The only problem is that:
1. USB OTG does not work.
2. File transfers does not work.
3. WiFi is a bit slow, but still works.
You just search up online tutorials on how to flash GSI Rom's on phones, then you follow those.
PS: Some apps show you that your system is A only. Those apps are not working. The phone uses A/B.
Same problems at my side. Now im trying some other ROMs
Added:
OTG works fine (tested flashstorage)

How have you gotten OTG to work? MicroSD card works fine, but not an external USB.
Nothing... It works from beginning, my otg cable was faulty.

How did you do it? I keep getting stuck after flashing the GSI rom. It wont boot..
Hey there
On my A40 with LOS17 my Bluetooth Headphones works fine, untill i get a call (or want to make one),
then the Phone switches to the internal speaker.
Does anybody have the same problem?
Hi,
Did anyone manage to fix the rounded corners. For example the battery icon is not visible.
EDIT: Already found it. It is in Phh settings.

Hello! Would you possibly provide with documentation or just the procedures on how to get a GSI to work on the Samsung A40? Been trying to get it to work and it just says "No OS installed" in TWRP and boot loops...

Atleast for now, all of the gsi images are not worth effort for this device. I've tried most of them and they are laggy. But here is an instruction
1. Download all attached files and copy them to sd card (Cant post links because im new but i hope that this will not get deleted
ht tps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GhcWXGcNir-5fKt25y1D6kgZd7DNVz6e (remove the space in gaps)
2. Boot into twrp
3. wipe
Dalvik/ Art Cache
System
Data
Internal Storage
Cache
4. Flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt
5. Flash gsi rom as system
6. Reboot to recovery (very important, dont skip this step. There might be information about No OS Installed dont worry about it.)
7. Then click Mount - System. Go to wipe -> Advanced wipe -> Select system -> Click repair or change file system -> resize file system (If there is an error while resizing system just do it one more time.)
8. Flash Magisk
9. Now depends on your gsi. Some have already attached google services. If you are using lineage os i suggest you to use NikGapps (Open gapps didn't worked for me) Flash it
10. If you are having problem with corners in gsi rom, flash A40LOSFIX. It fixes the problem
There is fix for laggy animations in system ui
Open up any root file explorer and go to:
/system/build.prop (remember to change partition from r/w to r/o)
and paste those lines at the bottom of the file
#visual_tweak
debug.sf.hw = 0
debug.egl.hw = 0
debug.enable.sglscale = 1
debug.sf.enable_hwc_vds = 1
debug.gralloc.enable_fb_ubwc = 1
debug.sf.latch_unsignaled = 1
debug.sf.recomputecrop = 0
dev.pm.dyn_samplingrate = 1
Thats all, but as i said i dont think that is worth the effort. Android q navigation gestures are choppy even with the fix and thats problem for me. But maybe someone could fix this or make rom specific for this device.
What is about camera performance in LOS ? As far as I know there are some propriatary part of firmware ...
Whats with the Gapps?

Ive been using it for 2 weeks now. I like it many times more than the Samsung bloatware. But yes, there are still some limitations and broken functionalities there. To name the ones I've noticed so far:
- No USB OTG, nor file transfer via USB.
- Auto brightness not working (even though the light sensor is working)
- Proximity wont change audio messages from playing on speaker
Working:
- Wifi 5Ghz working full speed (30 Mb/s+)
- Playing music over bluetooth
- Battery seems to last the same
Apart from that, I have nothing to complain just yet.

It does not. I can search it in the settings menu, but the setting is not there. Same for adaptive backlight
I've installed according to Yankezss advice with twrp 3.4 unofficial. I have ARM64 architecture device and I downloaded the A/B version "lineage-17.1-20201114-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvS (1).img.xz" extracted it and installed the .img as system in twrp and everything else according to his post. My phone stays in "galaxy" logo, waited for 20-30 minutes and it was still like that. Any advice? I've also tried installing unofficial lineage os 18 from two different sources and could not get those booted either.

In January I installed 17.1 using this ROM. Do I need to go through the whole process of resizing the partition, since I already did it for 17.1?
Never mind! I went ahead and installed it following the instruction . It works, thanks!

Yes, it's very stable.
I have one issue and some questions.
When using a Bluetooth Headset, I have no sound in apps like Jitsi. Mic on the Bluetooth Headset is working in Jitsi, the others can here me. When using e.g. youtube in Chromium I can hear sound via the Bluetooth Headset.
I checked "Force-disable A2DP offload" and restarted, still the same.
Any Ideas?
And some Questions:
- Is magisk only needed for root? I don't need to root, do i still have to install magisk?
- in twrp I can't mount the system partition, so I cant fix it, but the rom is working. So how to mount system?
- I don't want gapps, is it ok to use the roms without gapps? so eg this one ...treble_a64_bvS.img ?
- in the description downloadlinks you are using: 18: treble_a64_bvS-vndklite but 19: treble_a64_bgS, so should one use vndklite for 18 but not for 19? Or also for 19? What is better? ...

Yep. It works. I previously had the latest Nexus rom flashed on my SMT-510, so in TWRP I just flashed Lineage 19.1 to system, formatted data, rebooted and it loaded successfully. With Magisk 24.1. It all runs surprisingly well. No issues so far other than no USB file transfer or ability to mount System partition.

I can only answer some of your questions:
- Magisk is only used for root. It's not required.
- Mounting /system in TWRP or in a File explorer doesn't seem to be possible.
- GApps is built in to roms with "...bgS.img.xz". For vanilla roms without gapps download the "...bvS.img.xz"file.
- For LOS 19, I flashed treble_a64_bgS and didn't have an issue. I can't comment on the vndklite version or what it's used for since I never tried it.

It's a good rom and works very well. I was using it before I upgraded to LOS19.1.
Hey there!
I Installed this a couple of weeks ago, but has to reinstall nexus stock 11.0 pretty quickly, as after spending an evening trying to fix issues, it just wouldn't work.
Issues:
1) App crashes are constant. I cannot open Chrome, YouTube, Google Podcasts, Twitter - they all crash to launcher. - Cache, dalvik and data was cleared, still nothing
2) Gesture Navigation is missing - is it meant to be?
3) Magisk installs successfully,, but is then not recognised by the app, meaning no modules. - Is that normal?
Does anyone have any idea on how I could fix these issues, so I can install again?
Many thanks
