Hi all,
I'm running out of ideas and could use another opinion please:
N6 running 5.0.2 (this is the second one incidentally, I sent the first one back for this same problem) - the phone will shutdown under certain circumstances. When this happens it does not restart, you have to press the power button to restart it. Mostly this happens when I use the Google Camera stock application to take a photo but only ever when the phone is not connected to WiFi. I have had it happen when I open the camera app as well (without taking a picture), if you put your ear to the upper speaker as soon as the camera app is opened you can here a cell location signal (similar to the sound you hear when you put your phone near a speaker) and then the phone turns off. I can stop this happening by using a third party camera app. I can also stop this happening if I disable Google location.
Yesterday I wiped the phone, signed in with my Gmail, and took 25 pictures, all OK. I then turned on Google Now, took one photo and the phone turned off. This is definitely something to do with location data but I don't understand why nobody else is experiencing this ? Maybe the phone is faulty but I'm going to have a hard to explaining that as I sent the last one back for the same reason.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Simon.
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I've seen this happen on my N6 too, both on 5.0.x as well as on 5.1. I've seen this happen even while unlocking the phone (I have face unlock enabled), and yes this happens mostly when using the camera. Never knew it has to do something with location services.
I'm running completely stock and unrooted by the way. I guess I should try flashing the factory image
Yes same with me, stock phone unrooted and although using the camera is the best way to get this to happen you are right, it sometimes happens at other times as well. If I go to an area with no WiFi and poor phone signal I can get it to happen everytime the Google Camera app is opened, so I have to resort to taking pictures in Airplane mode.
This has happened to me since I have had this phone and its replacement and I am curious to know why, when you open the Google camera app, if you immediately put your ear to the upper speaker it becomes active for about 3 seconds ? After that three second burst of sound the phone will turn off. To me, it sounds like a location signal is being sent when the camera is opened.
Yet turning off geolocation?

same thing happening here,i was out today and when i tried to open the camera app phone kept crashing, soon as i was home on wifi camera app worked fine,i've switched off the location thing to see if that helps
Anyone see their location icon blinking constantly in the upper right corner? It just started this morning. I have had android 5.1.1 since late last week. It's eating my battery. 73% after an hour .
Seeing the same thing after upgrading to 5.1.1 yesterday
What build? I'm on Z and haven't had this at all. Obviously not a common issue. Yet.
sounds as you have an app constantly checking your location. set your location to battery saving.

The thing is that it's not really blinking, it's more flickering really rapidly. Looks buggy. And I've never seen it before. Had to turn off location for quite a while to get it to go away. It's happened twice in two days.

it pops up when your location is being used, ive seen it a few times.
Same issue!
I am having the same issue here. Its not blinking, its more a flickering of the icon like there is a loose connection to a light bulb. Quite odd....
It started just before I update to 5.1.1, sometime after I/O so I wonder if it might be related to the Photos app or another google app update. I hoped upgrading to 5.1.1 would resolve it but it was still there.
I am also on 100% stock android
Same, nexus 5_ 5.1.1 stocks
I've exactly the same issue. Hoping updates~~~ i've notice battery decrease vert fast sincères update. Not sure it's related
One of your applications keeps requesting location access and is being granted then it'll turn off. Find out which application it is and then uninstall the app or deny the location permission to the application.
Or just turn off location / GPS.

I have a Nexus 6. I noticed the issue about 2 weeks ago. I was hoping to get it fixed with the 5.1.1 update, but it didn't.
I haven't been able to find out which app causes this. If someone finds out, could you please let us know?

Boot up in safe mode. Start each app until you find the culprit.
Any resolution?
Has anyone had any luck finding the app responsible for for the flickering icon?
I have started it in safe mode, however am unable to open 3rd party apps in safe mode so cannot find the cause.
Bump
Same issue every startup. 5.1.1 stock. Seems the easy fix is to turn on and off bluetooth though surely there is a more scientific resolution.
I'm been having same issue for some time now.
Today, while location was blinking, I checked the location options and "eye-fi mobile app" (for eye-fi SD card) was at the top of the list.
I have uinstalled it and the blinking stopped...
Will see these days if was the only one causing the problem
I know most of us are happy with new Nougat firmware but i also see some people posting problems. To track this better i would like to all of us post here. This way some problems/bugs maybe look by more people and someone my have idea.

Mine had issues when I first upgraded to nougat with mirroring but it magically fixed itself lol
Only thing I've noticed is even with Auto rightness off the screen still dims itself ever so slightly when you leave a lighted area and go to a darker area, I'm assuming it's the blue light filter....Even though I have that option turned off.

Only issue I've had is a daily "Android System has stopped" popup, but it's pretty uneventful. Nothing crashes, phone doesn't restart. Just hit "ok" and go about my business. I assume it's related to the disabled package list I've carried over from MM.

Hi Norbarb,
Last weekend, I was on QA4 then I Odin'd back to APK1 and took the Official ATT OTA update to Nougat 7.0.
I just tested screen mirroring and it worked without any problems. Sorry, I don't have a Samsung BluRay to test.
Now the issue that I've been having is reboots. In the beginning, when I was first on N7.0 I had no problems whatsoever for a few days.
- On Feb. 20th, I kept getting a message that one of my apps unexpectedly closed. Now this app is old and wasn't even supported on MM (it's called Webcams widget) but it had worked flawlessly on MM and Nougat QA4.
- Then on Feb. 21st I had a couple of reboots happen, I went into a solid Bootloop that started in the afternoon and kept rebooting for around 10-15 times! It stopped long enough for me to actually Power Off my S7E down in the normal manner and I left it that way for around 5 minutes.
- I searched for solutions and finally ended up clearing the Cache Partition like this:
Wipe cache partition
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
Release all of the keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight "wipe cache partition."
Press the Power key to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press thePower key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
My phone went without a reboot for almost 2 days then yesterday afternoon I had one single reboot. My next test (if needed) will be to clear each app cache/data. Unless it gets really, really bad again, only then will I resort to a complete reset.
The only difference between using my phone on the official QA6 and the sideloaded QA4 is that I had turned off auto-updating for my Play Store apps when on QA4 (and earlier). I had a lot of updates occur when updating to QA6.
Doing more research today, I found an article talking about some common Nougat problems and possible fixes here.

Did you preform factory reset ?
It help me with lot of problems. Just make backup using Samsung Cloud and after factory reset using restore from Samsung cloud you will have 97% all of you settings and apps back. It is wort to do it.
Actually I just took a guess and re-enabled com.qualcomm.atfwd. I don't have a wifi display BUT I haven't gotten "Android System has stopped" since I turned it back on. This was never an issue on MM. If it happens again I'll try a few more packages related to Android System before a factory reset.

Package Disabler Pro. It's the only one that currently works in Nougat as far as I know.
I switched to OnePlus 3T today, and here are few observations guys...
Compared to Nougat on S7E... different level of speed and responsiveness, way different.
I used CM and AOSP roms in the past, on different phones, I know they fast, but this... speed demon out of the box, with MM or Nougat.
Feel bad for leaving S7E forums, but believe me guys, it is a flagship killer indeed. Unbelievable.
I will go back to Sammy with S8 only if they will be able to keep up with this kind of speed, plain and simple.
I was hoping with every generation that Sammy will get rid of touchwiz lags... new phones and new chipsets were piling up, but it never changed, unfortunately.
Touch wiz nougat is a bloody mess next to 3T nougat...
Yes yes, I know. But I never used edge panels... or OOD that much.
Peace out guys!

I'm guessing it's part of Nougat 7.0?

I have this issue also, it keeps dimming constantly, and my blind self can't read it without manually turning up the brightness.
(Eye exam on Fri LOL)
Hello. My first post here. I have been lurking & reading for years.
I have a few of the minor issues that others have, like the colors will be washed out sometimes, pull down notifications are a bit harder to read. My main issue with this update is that my recently used apps will randomly close when the screen is locked & only keep 4 or 5 open. I want them to all stay open & I close the ones I no longer need. That is why I got this phone in the first place. Now apps that I need to go back to later & continue working are gone. Very annoying. I assumed it was a new performance setting activated without any explanation of how it will affect normal usage. I can't find where to change that particular setting, if it is changeable at all now.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that a few times. No change. Even added frequently used apps to be unmonitored. It is still closing all recently used apps, except the last 4 or 5. I just now turned off the app power monitor completely. It didn't change the estimated battery life hardly any. We'll see how that goes for a while.

Google Photos VERY Slow On Pixel 4 XL 0 Replies 0 Upvotes
I’ve been having some poor performance out of my Pixel 4XL and Google Photos and I am not sure what is causing it.
There are several things going on…
· When taking a photo, there is a significant delay before you can see it in Google Photos.
· If I take a photo, the “processing” of it can take 10-30 seconds, more so on portrait mode and it will produce a black screen fore as many or longer seconds.
· If I take a screenshot and immediately try to open, it again, 10-30 second delay.
· Editing a photo or screen shot produces the same 10-30 delay.
· Bulk deleting photos can take a long time and leave little placeholders for the photos.
· Sometimes just going into Google Photos, it can leave placeholders for several moments of time.
Troubleshooting So Far
· Cleared cache and data.
o This resulted in taking Google Photos hours to recache my photos in the app.
· Safe Mode
o Loaded safe mode and cleared cache and data and then rebooted.
o Still took hours to recached.
o Performance improved for a while but then poor performance returned.
· Factory Reset
o Factory reset provided short term relief but problem returned.
· Different Pixel 4XL
o A second, new Pixel 4 XL resulted in the problem returning.
What could this be? I would think since this happened after factory reset and new phone that it is a Google Photos problem? Could it be another app doing this?
I do have a Note 10+ that I am going to give it a good run through to see if the problem is there too.
Really want to get this fixed as I prefer the Pixel.
Thanks…
Are you stock or rooted? It could very well be an app causing your issue. My wife had a similar problem with her 4XL. I had to factory reset and install her apps a couple at a time until I found the culprit. I can't remember what app was causing the problem but it was something that she didn't really use.

I am stock and that makes sense. I fired up my Note 10+ with hardly any other app installed and Google Photos is fast. Hmmm...I can't imagine what app it would be but I would assume a photo or video app first.

Do a factory reset with a clean install. See how it runs before adding any 3rd party apps. If everything is good start adding them back a few at a time starting with your must have apps. It will take a little time but the problem app should show up.
UPDATE -
It is interesting in that I can take photos of all kinds for about a minute or so and then this sluggish problem starts in. I wait a little while and it works "as normal" for a while and then kicks in again...if I click on a photo within the camera app after taking it to watch it "process", if it blanks the screen, I know the problem has returned.
I've deleted a bunch of apps and still got the same problem...I guess I'll schedule a factory reset this weekend but I find it odd that this happened on two different Pixel 4 XL's but can't reproduce it on my Note 10+...for sure an issue with Google Camera / Google Photos and perhaps my account if it isn't a rogue app.

I think I may have found the culprit as so far, I've not been able to reproduce the problem since doing this...
I sideloaded Google Playground Stranger Things and The Last Jedi, since I love them but they are no longer available to download. It was one of the last things I tried to uninstall and the only other app I could think of that uses Google Camera. So far, the problem has gone...
It was odd that it would also affect Google Photos and cause constant sluggishness.

Well, I thought that was it...it worked flawlessly for several days and it is back again...you can take several photos for a while but then the preview of the photo will go black for 20 seconds up to 2 minutes. Okay! Do you have any beta apps installed? And what external apps do you use?
Here's an update...
I decided on a factory reset. I was a little more judicious on reinstalling apps so did a little at a time...it worked fine until yesterday and the dang sluggish problem returned. The only apps I installed the day before this happened again were Office (the new Office Suite App) and GroupMe. I removed them both, rebooted and the problem persists.
I also made sure no Beta apps of any kind were installed.
At this point, since this happened on two separate Pixel's and not my Note 10, there has to be something going on between Google Camera, Google Photos and my Google Account. I almost don't want to contact Google because they may give me the same "do this or that." This is actually a debilitating problem, so I may have to switch to the Note 10+.

I even went so far as to disable the system AOD apk via an apk disabler tool & that did not work.
IDK if you ever found the actual toggle to turn it off......I finally found it by selecting the search result in Settings.
I typed in Always & stopped there,finding "Always-On Display".
The toggle is at the very top of the page (FWIW,I missed this earlier when in the settings,it was easy for me to overlook the toggle in dark mode).
If you've already tried this & it's still coming on,here's what I'm trying for the next day or so:
Turn Always-On Display back on & set a scheduled time for one minute.
For example,I've got it turning on at 4:00 A.M. & turning off at 4:01 A.M.
ATM,option 2,the scheduled on/off time,seems to be working.
EDIT;after a few minutes,AOD is coming back on.
This is annoying....... Not looking good as a keeper, not liking OxyColor OS at all, what a mess compared to the OP7T Pro.
Not just this, but, the settings layout (for individual app settings is a trainwreck & power/performance options not sticking, keeps reverting back to out-of-box settings.
Well I think I found a permanent fix for this...it's actually a bug (in my case anyway)
I was forced to wipe my phone, which was a huge pain due to a problem with a mod I'd installed..
Anyway on boot I set everything back up then realised it's got AOD on by default and I went a turned it off.
Low and behold it stayed off..no need to do anything.
So what I think has happened is the update that came recently (11_A.12) that could have caused issues, always good to wipe after an update.
I honestly don't know if this will fix things for you, but it did for me.
Couple that with the fact that I'm now getting unbelievable battery life...I think it's maybe a good idea to at least try, you may not fix your AOD but you may get better battery. As I did, I think you'll probably get both.
Here's a bunch of pics from the last 24 hours, midnight on Thursday evening /start of Friday up till now.
Absolutely amazing.

I just got the 1st system update for the T-Mobile US version.
The AOD option to turn it off is now working.
Here's what is/was strange, pre-update:
The only way I could see/access the Always-On Display settings/toggle was to have the stock OnePlus Launcher as the default home app.
Even then, AOD stayed on, whether toggled on or off.
I was able to figure this out from prior experience with the original Oppo Find X & VIVO NEX.
Very strange that certain (seemingly unrelated) settings would be hidden due to choice of home launcher, but, apparently,BBK doesn't see this as an issue/bug(feature, LOL) that needs to be addressed, guessing this "feature" is persistent on the home market China models/firmware.
Glad it was cleaned up for the T-Mobile US update.
On a somewhat related note, pre-update, I could not find a way to choose "No Lock Screen". I looked in the usual place to find such & it was not available, AFAIK.
Now, post-update, that setting is found in "Developer Options". (Why?????? LOL)
On an unrelated note, post-update, another bug has apparently been taken care of for the T-Mobile US version :
T-Mobile bloatware apps now stay disabled, if chosen to do so. Pre-update, they would re-appear after a reboot.
With these bug fixes, my outlook on keeping this phone has definitely changed for the positive. I still have about 10 days remaining before T-Mobile's buyer's remorse return window closes.
