WiFi Calling on Mint - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Has anyone succesfully gotten their Pixel 5 to work with WiFi Calling on mint? It seems like I can but after a while it won't work. If I make an outgoing call on wifi calling, it will attempt for about a second and then hang up. Even after turning wifi calling off I have to reboot before it'll use the cellular network for the call instead. If I turn it on again, it seems to work for a little while, but only a little while. It's really frustrating.

Let Ryan Reynolds know! Just kidding, sorry to hear that. I have ATT so I can't weigh in.

Yep, I even contacted support and bugged them about it. The support person just disabled/enabled it for me. It worked for a bit but only for a bit.

Similiar Problem.

I read about a problem like this on facebook that a guy was having, he'd have to reboot to get calling to work and he'd miss some incoming calls.
I bought my wife a Pixel 5, it's too small for me and I even tried turning off WiFi Calling completely but occasionally it won't call out until she reboots it.
I have to think that this must be a software issue. I'm going to try disabling WiFI calling in Mint's settings too.
I did notice that if you put a Pixel 5 imei number in the phone compatibility checker, it says it doesn't support all features.
I found a page on the Pixel 4a 5G which said that they aren't selling the Pixel 5 but are working with google to fully support it.
Can any other T-mobile users weigh in? Is this a problem your experiencing or is it strictly a Mint Mobile issue?
Thanks

The turning off and back on occasionally is a little odd because of a problem I had on my previous phone, a Galaxy S10. At the time I was also on a AT&T/T-Mobile MVNO (Consumer Cellular) and I had to turn it off occasionally before it would call out and wifi calling would come and go. The only thing was, it was on Android 10, but it had the exact same problem and by coincidence both our phones were on MVNO's with the same parent networks. After I got the Pixel, I couldn't get wifi calling no matter what Consumer Cellular did, but this past weekend I switched to Verizon and everything is OK now.

Hmm, that's disappointing. It's really the only complaint I have though. I'll take $15/month over $50+ anyday if all I lose is wifi calling.

I'll be switching over to Mint shortly, hopefully it works well otherwise!! (I've been using Straight Talk for years)

[Q] Wifi Calling?

I'm not even 100% if the N4 has it so can anyone verify this? I have horrible service on the first floor of my house (especially my couch smh...) so I need to know that this works
If it's the T-Mobile version, then yes you have Wi-Fi calling.
Yes it does
I got the white note 4 from tmobile on monday. Yes it does have wifi calling. It works well.
WiFi Calling Not Working
Just got my Tmo Samsung Galaxy Note 4 today after Pre-Ordering and Jumping from the Note 3. Decided to go with the SIM Card that came with the Note 4. Got the phone all set up and connected to WiFi and received "ER081 - Unable to connect" Error. Called Tmo and after checking my 911 info and verifying the new SIM Card was registered and such I got patched to Tech Support and reverifed everything. Popped out the battery while he reconnected the phone to the Tmo Network, same error. I have the Tmo Asus CellSpot along with another router as well, same error on both routers. The funny thing is they attempted to send some type of Verification Text Msg and I received "Content not supported" on my end. Anyone else having simular issues? I have good signal throughout my house, its just the matter of a major feature not working on a brand new phone. Tech Support said to give it till morning and call back if it still is not working. texting doesn't work when I have wifi calling enabled
I suffered from the same problem and it seems to be a permanent problem as no amount of help from T-mobile could rectify the issue....so the phone goes back to be replaced hopefully by one with a little more luck!!! Ill be interested to hear how you get along with it!!

I found WiFi calling and text work. The voice had a lot of drop outs on the note 4 however. My wife's note 3 is perfect on WiFi calling without a hint of a drop out.

I'm starting to believe that TMO's version was not ready for release. I am now also getting the ER081 message, slow data speeds (as in <1 Mb/s with the LTE icon lit). These problems have really dampened my enthusiasm for the phone. :crying:

I managed to find that using another phone as a hotspot actually allowed me to get wifi calling...strangely though the cellular signal did not grey out.....when wifi-calling is enabled as preferred on others' note 4s, do your cellular signal stay on too?!
My Wifi calling took overnight to become active, probably because I'm a new customer and my account was still being provisioned. I have both the Wifi and cell signals in my notification bar.
People with the ER081....
You can try to following:
If your connected to your Wifi Network.
Go to Phone - Setting - Call - Wifi Calling - Switch it off and then back on.
This would re-enable the wifi calling feature and you will see the error go away.
Not sure why it gives the ERO81 code, but I have it come up as well.

First thing I tried. No joy. But, the problem seems to be intermittent and not permanent for me.
My problem is a little different. I get the wifi calling icon, but when I make a call, the other party can't hear me. When I turn it off, everything is A-OK. I'm not sure how to remedy this.
Call t mobile and tell them when new Sim card was activated WiFi calling was not set up perfect. Then before last step tell them to refresh you on network.
NOTE 4
I had an issue with my text messages using the SIM card that came with the phone. I returned to the store and they told me there have been issues with those Sim cards that are ISIS enabled due to the security measures. They gave me a non ISIS one and now mine works flawlessly.
I'm getting frequent Er081's on my TMobile Note Edge. I've tried 3 different ISPs with speeds from 10m-500m, tweaked the QOS and COS on each, multiple wifi's etc.
It will usually initiate the call. But it won't be long before call just drops, anywhere from 15-60 mins in. My calls are always long (>30mins), and I've yet to normally terminate a call. Of course I'm now getting asked what's going on.
On one occasion, the ER081 stayed on the drop-down and wouldn't go away until I rebooted phone (Edge).
IMHO this is a wonderful feature, but TMo is not ready for primetime on this one? Is it true Note 3's and older phones work fine?

WiFi Calling - Tmobile

I was wondering how wifi calling is going to work with the Nexus 6. Tmobile said that wifi calling is coming to the Nexus 6 early 2015 via an OTA update. Will the Nexus 6 from the play store also be able to receive this update and be able to use wifi calling?

Since all the US carriers will have the same SKU, it's literally the exact same phone for all carriers. So there's no way they can tell where you purchased it, all the OTAs will be handled by Google.
What's likely happening is that Google is still finishing up the code for a generic wifi calling API (a lot of code is likely shared with VoLTE if I had to take a guess). When it detects a T-mobile SIM it will setup T-mobile's variant of wifi calling. Same for Sprint and any other carrier that rolls out wifi calling. So even if you aren't using T-mobile you'll get support for their wifi calling when that OTA is released. It just won't be activated unless you have a T-mobile SIM inserted.
It's going to be a similar case to support VoLTE on different carriers, since as of right now each implementation is incompatible with the others. It would be smart for Google to make a generic API for this so it's quicker/easier to add support for new carriers.

Alright, that sounds pretty simple. Thanks!
On a separate note, I wonder if once it is enabled, if someone would be able to modify the N6 so it can bypass the WiFi calls going against your minutes, like how you can get around WiFi Hotspot checker on the N5 by editing the Database file. It probably isn't even possible on WiFi calls, but we do have some pretty smart people around these forums, so I'll stay hopeful for a bit. I have the $30 "unlimited data" plan with 100 minutes. Would be nice if I could bypass that 100 minutes by using WiFi calling somehow.

I currently do on my N5. However, the quality is usually dependent on who I'm calling and where they are. It's rarely a problem on my end since I have really fast data connections at home and virtually anywhere I go. For example, my parents' WiFi router is in a bedroom at the opposite end of the house from where the living room is. So when I call them, even though I have a strong WiFi signal, their's isn't very good, so the call quality diminishes a bit. It would be great if I could use my WiFi signal and call their actual cell phone number (or house phone) so their is no drop in quality, without eating into my minutes.
Sprint has WiFi calling on some models already also so it's probably close to the same for all

Don't you have to have a Google Voice number for that, which you have to pay for? The whole thing would be not having to pay anything more than what I'm paying now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hurting for minutes, but it would be nice to have free WiFi calling/minutes available if necessary.

WHAT?!?!?! I feel like my whole life has been a lie!!! Haha! But in all seriousness, I thought that was only for people with Google Voice numbers. But after doing a quick Google search, it looks like you only need a GV number to RECEIVE said calls. Wow. I feel so dumb right about now. Thanks for enlightening me, guys!

WiFi Calling Not Working

Hello! I have very recently bought a N4 on TMO, and one of the features I was eager to try was WiFi calling. However, it seems not to work. I can't send texts and can only call intermitently , but can't receive calls. I've been reading that this seems to be a known issue on the GS5 at least, but what about with the N4? Is there any fix?

BAD ASS NOTE 4
I've had a few issues with WiFi calling. It is possible that it is my router, but sometimes when I make a call it will go through but the person on the other end can't hear me even though I can hear them just fine. If I turn off WiFi and try it using the mobile network they can hear me fine.
Sometimes it has to do with setting ur e911 address with tmobile if u get a red error message most likely means the 911 address is not filled in.You can call tmobile or go to tmobile.Com and set ur self.Maybe a new rom using international kernel wifi calling won't work must be a tmobile kernel
I also have issues with Wi-Fi calling. 2/10 times it works fine. The other 8 times it's one way audio. I can hear them no issue, but they cannot hear me. T-Mo says it has to be my router but the thing is I have 3 other android devices on T-mobile network on the same Wi-Fi connection that has no issues making or receiving calls on it.
Before the Note 4 I had an S4, which I still have and it had no issues either.
Hope they get it fixed.
It's not the e911 address because mine is already set, and I'm not more than 10ft from the router.

Cant hear caller

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem, but it's happened since day one. When I call my wife and she answers I cant hear her but she can hear me. She has an Iphone 7plus. The kicker though is if she calls me then everything is fine. Anyone experienced this problem?
Bump
Probably not the same issue & is a result of my area that I had but with my Note 5.... when VoLTE first got turned on in my area I would have this problem a lot as well as dropped calls & long wait times for calls to connect or not connect at all. I disabled VoLTE & that took care of all that.
With my Note 8 I still have dropped calls issues with VoLTE turned on in certain areas. Much better than before but still is annoying to the point where I leave VoLTE off anytime I'm not at home or at work. But no issue where people can't hear me speak with my Note 8.

Ditto, i remember this in my area years back as they were rolling out VoLTE.
I got same experience but that is when I'm calling using a video call in some apps (well I only have WhatsApp and messenger and both got poor sound when I'm calling)

Can make phone calls only on 2g.

Hey guys, i'll start off by saying this is my first post, so go easy on me.
I'm currently running the oxygen OS pie beta 2 on my Oneplus 3T.
A couple of months ago, I had this weird problem pop up. People suddenly couldn't call me. And when I made calls, they say they can't hear me clearly at first and then after about 15 seconds, they can't hear me at all. The surprising thing is, I can hear them clearly on my side. I tried searching for solutions to fix microphone problems but that wasn't it. I thought it was SIM card problem and changed my sim. But the problem persisted. Then I wen't on to change to another carrier, which didn't solve the problem as well. I tried flashing havocOS thinking it might be a problem with oxygenOS, but still, same problem. By now I already know that it's a problem with the phone.
And then I tried switching the network to 2g only and viola. I could make and receive calls. However, data is super slow on EDGE (as expected). So after some time, I tried using 2g/3g automatic as the network setting (hoping the problem would have miraculously gone away). This time, the phone still couldn't make calls but it also got really hot. Sometimes to the point where it's too hot to touch the phone for long (no joke). So I immediately switched back to 2g only. I also tried 2g/3g/4g automatic and this allows me to connect to lte and the phone doesn't get hot but since my carrier has no VoLTE, I still can't make calls as the phone has to drop to 3g for calls. The phone takes a really long time to drop down to 3g and when it does, the calls still don't work and the phone gets hot.
So now i'm stuck on 2g only because I need to make and receive calls but data is just too slow to use. I hope I've given enough information. Any solutions?
Don't have a solution, but just a couple thoughts (shots in the dark, really):
1) What country are you located/what carrier do you use?
2) Does turning WiFi off make any difference? May not make a difference on this device, but I vaguely remember a while back someone having a problem with another device (and maybe a carrier specific issue) not dropping down to 2G for voice calls, and I think it only happened when WiFi was on.

I'm from Malaysia and i'm pretty sure it's not a carrier problem. My sim works on my friends phone perfectly.
Nope, wifi didn't make a differene unfortunately.
