Looked at many reviews on the Google Pixel 2XL and Note 8. I currently have a exynos variant Note 8 and thinking about selling to get the Pixel. Has anybody came from the Pixel 2 Xl to the Note 8 and if so are you happy with your decision?

Don't do it. Couldn't be happier, even with the lack of Roms on my SnapDrag Note 8.
Yes there are roms or more modding for the Pixel series, but at the end of the day, they are all the same Roms with the same tweaks renamed to something else. Don't get me wrong, I do miss my XL 2 at times but whenever I whip out this SPen......yeah, can't top the productivity of the Note 8.

The s-pen is a great addition but i barely use it honestly. The only reason i havent switched is because of the blue tint horror stories of the pixel 2 xl...in your opinion which camera was better overall?

I prefer the Note 8 camera. Mostly because of two things. The draw(right iteration here?) distance for photos is amazing for the Colorado mountains where I live. And also the up close shots are very crisp and clear. I am able to take up close photos of serial numbers for verification emails at work, broken parts where I need to show fine detail and such.
As far as the pen goes, all it takes is finding a reason to use it or just messing around with drawing a bit. I have come to find that my wife really likes my cheesy Live Messages that I draw her, and my daughter stays entertained while we are running errands(rugged phone case). My wife always grabs my phone when we do groceries because of the ease of it, and she's able to make recipes on the fly in Samsung Notes and include clip arts of the photos she just took. Yeah, she uses it more than I do sometimes but I'm not about to drop another $1k on a phone for her.

Appreciate your feedback really helps alot with my decision. For my business i need the best camera and in most reviews i heard the pixel was the best but the Note 8 is a great camera as well. And youre right the productivity of the Note is unmatched. My best bet is to keep the Note 8 and flash a pixel like rom to clean up alot of bloat and speed up the Note a bit. The note has the best looking screen as well and i dont want to lose that beautiful screen.

I used debloat my devices such as this one. But I have come to find that I use the Samsung apps more than the stock Google ones with the exception of Drive or Sheets. Everything else I use works better because of the Pen.
So I currently have an S8 and I'm looking at either the Note 8 or Pixel 2 XL, both appear to be great devices and I'm really torn on which to choose at the moment! The Pixel 2 XL will cost me £10 a month more than the Note with my current provider in the UK, so it's just me deciding which to go for....
I love the S8 and have owned it for 3 months, been running Oreo beta too, which is pretty decent, the only thing is I get lag at times anything from small to large and I'm not sure if it's the BixbyRemap causing it.
Between the two I prefer the Pixel 2XL for:
Slightly smaller, Note 8 looks huge and 1 handed use will be difficult.
Software, although Note 8 has 6Gb RAM I still hear it lags??
Note 8:
Better screen, I love my S8's screen so this is better.
SD card support, 128gb is a lot on the P2XL it's just not expandable
Draw:
Camera, both have great camera's, Note has 2x optical with live focus where the P2XL has portrait mode...
Dam this decision is so hard, any opinions on the above?
Thanks!

Yea i think i will stick w the Note 8 for now unless the pixel XL 2 drops vastly in price.
Screen
Camera
Battery
That's my decision order. Makes keeping the Note very easy

The note 8 is the exact same footprint as the XL 1 with just a half inch more in height. So size difference in negligible IMO.
As for Lag, I have experienced absolutely none. I have been very impressed with touchwiz on the note 8. I only got this phone because of the BOGO deal, i was gonna hold on to my XL for another year but my wife wanted a new phone so I had to capitalize. I wasn't expecting to enjoy a Samsung phone this much. It's a beast that can handle anything thrown at it. It ranks #4 in the highest futuremark test that I ran.
I also am blown away by the speed and quality of the camera. And this screen is absolutely Amazing!
Really the only advantage I think Google has this year is the monthly updates. To me those updates are nice, but not a selling point.

Thanks for your opinions, exactly what I was after!
I think you are spot on the Pixel has the advantage of the updates, however, Samsung Experience is much better than TouchWiz was as Samsung has brought it a lot of features into their software that Google didn't have, it's mainly Google copying Samsung these days I find!
I really like the 2x zoom the Note has, however, the portrait mode seems better on the Pixel, from what I've seen on real-life videos.
Choices, choices!!
I have both and here is my take.
The P2XL is lighter and thinner but just a bit wider and it makes it uncomfortable for me to hold (small hands.) I find the note easier to use one handed. The battery life on the pixel is not that great, it drains quickly and gets warm when using the camera. The camera stinks! I really have no idea why everyone is claiming the camera to be amazing. I get better pics from my P1XL and the note 8. Every shot I take is grainy and lacks sharpness. Yes, stock android is better than the sammy skin but I have experienced no lag on my N8 and I like the fact that it auto adds extensions to call in meetings as I am on the road a ton. I am selling my P2XL and keeping the N8. I find it to be a far superior product.
I've been down this road quite a few times myself and in the end the Note 8 won. The Pixel2 XL has way too many hardware and software issues that I want to gamble with. I returned a total of five 2 XL's for various reasons and one Pixel 2 because the screen had a horrible reddish brown tint to it. The cameras are equal in the 200 + photos I took with the 2 XL and Note 8., they both have their pros and cons. The Note has been running great for me and my son. Battery life is great, the display is the best and the software runs nice and smooth. What else can I really ask for? My biggest complaint is the added length to the Note because it sticks out of my top coat pocket where I like to keep my phone. Other than that I'm thrilled with it. When I start doubting my decision I go here and my doubt is removed.

Thanks for your thoughts!
I've read that about the Pixel 2 being wider making it uncomfortable when holding, which tbh my S8 is great because it's not very wide, so I was thinking that would be the same with the N8 so it's great to hear I was on right track. So even though it's got a bigger battery than the N8 would you say they are on par? My S8 can be great sometimes, however, it also can be crap! :-/
There's so many mixed reviews/opinions about the camera I don't know what to believe, so it's good to hear it's not all roses with the Pixel!
I'm still swaying towards the Note 8!
I feel the battery on the note 8 is a little better. Like I said, I see the battery draining faster on the 2XL. And I would certainly be using the S8 if it had 6gb ram and the dual cameras. The N8 is not easy to use one handed but it's easier than the pixel. I actually prefer the more natural look to the XL2's screen but I know I'm in the minority on that one. The screen does have a nasty blue tint when angled even slightly though. And you can always load up the 2XL camera and use it on the note. I was so excited for the 2XL as I have always been a stock android fan boy but google got it wrong this time, the phone is sub par.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing across the net, too many issues out there for a premium device imo! It's a shame really as the Pixel 2 XL has so much potential! Thanks for the link, that's a great link to share!!

came for the nexus series, to change for the pixel, once they announced the google pixel 2 XL i was so excited, then i sold my Pixel Xl, for the pixel 2 XL, unfortunately in my country was only available the 15th of November, i had to buy a new device to take time....and i purchased the NOTE 8 for a great price, had it for a couple of week, when finally i've got my hands on the Pixel 2 XL... and that i realized...no waterproof, no 3.5 jack, no wireless charge, no DEX, no connection out from the box with my TV, no face unlock, no dual sim,no SD, no ,no, no for what 939.00€!!!!!!!
the feeling was like having an old phone in my hands compared with note 8, finally a send it back after 24h.
For me it is very disappointing because i loved the nexus series and the pixel xl, but i have to admit that, my last Samsung phone was galaxy S2, NOTE 8 seems to be alien technology compared with this year overpriced pixel.
Looking forward for the Pixel 3 though...

Yeah a lot of people don't realize what they lose when they go to the Google Experience. I had to make that very tough decision when we had to switch to Project Fi to save money in a financial crap time. I almost cried when I sold my Note 5!!! Then came Xfinity!??
I'm looking to upgrade my phone since my s7 edge isn't as supported by devs as it used to be. I'm having a hard time deciding what to get though. I've been a Samsung fan since the first Note (I like big phones), and the newest definitely has my attention for being the Fortnite phone (I like playing games on my phone) (4k mAh battery also sounds nice). The newest from OnePlus and Google seem promising though. The cameras on the Pixel are downright amazing (the notch+chin dont look that great though), yet the speed you need is with OnePlus. I could pickup an international Note 9 for about 730 USD, but I dont want to spend that much if it isn't worth the dough.
I want to get something that will last, something that I can enjoy till it dies because I flashed the wrong zip or it got stolen (I like installing custom roms and mods). I would appreciate any advice you guys could offer, and look forward to reading your responses! Thanks for reading!
I haven't had a OnePlus since the 5, so I can't comment on that device. I did have the Pixel 3 XL for a couple of days and sent it back. IMO the Pixel is not worth the price, plus stock Android is kind of boring. If you have any reservations at all about the notch do not get the Pixel. The notch is even bigger and uglier in person. I also have the iPhone Xs Max, and that notch looks great compared to the Pixel's notch. I recommend the Note 9.
But Pixel has only 4 GB RAM, OnePlus 6/6T has twice as much and x2/x4 the storage space.
All 3.
Note 9. I never been impressed by any of one plus's phones. The pixel well it's crap. It needs the software to be fixed to be usable and with no heat pipe if you are a power user the processor gets pretty warm. Used one for a day and returned it.
Note 9 is my pick for the best. No issues. I'm getting 9+ hours of sot with the snap dragon version. First Samsung phone in a long time I recommend and the first in a long time that I will use as a daily driver. It's a great overall phone and at that price it is a great deal.
First of all the notch was no big deal, turned on the settings to hide it and forgot about it. I did not like the screen quality. Now I am coming from a Nexus 6P which a QHD display and knew it came with a lower resolution screen but all the reviewers were saying how they can't tell the difference. They must need glasses. I am middle aged with not great eyesight and I could easily spot the difference.
The speed of the device is fast and the battery life was good. Wifi reception is excellent.
The dongle for headphones was no big deal either as all of mine worked. However the OnePlus 6T dongle in the box looks like it will break easily overtime and I am mad in the US they don't sell extra's. As for the sound quality knowing that USB-Type C headphones use digital I think the sound quality is not great and even when using a USB-Type C headphones dongle on the Nexus 6P I noticed much better sound. Now the reason I sent it back is constant audio stuttering with Apple Music. I read this has been going on for years and no I am not dropping AM as I hate Spotify UI and I don't really like Play Music which will turn into the much worse YTMusic soon.
So that is a deal breaker I sent it back, went back to my Nexus 6P.
Bout sent back Mine cause it won't work properly on Verizon...
I have T-Mobile so I did not have a chance to try it outside. As soon as AM kept stuttering I wanted to return it.
No issues with Apple music here. I have prepaid so I don't use Verizon myself. I dumped them like 4 years ago now and never looked back

Zero issues with AM here either. Stock.
Stock Oxygen OS. I am unsure about rooting my device right now. I use a lot of apps that may not work after root but AM works great for me

Sorry ur having issues.
Apple music works fine here
Not really buying that. I'm a pixel peeper and had doubts but you can't tell the screen is 1080p. You would have to have the phone very close to your face to see the difference. Also the Nexus 6p is pretty ancient now and the screen quality won't be anywhere near as good as the newest ones...amoled tech gets better every year.... unless it's from LG ?

A little off topic but how do you compare the camera differences between the 3xl and the 6t. I bought the 6t coming from the og XL (got it free due to 6p battery jank, totally regret it.) Im totally conflicted between wanting the 3xl and sticking with the 6t. My main concern is the camera. In your opinion is the camera on the 3xl worth the price difference?

The Pixel 3 has an unrivaled camera. Maybe Huawei's mate 20 pro/x can compare to the experience due to more options with a wide angle lens, AI that doesn't suck (that black/white background while keeping the subject in colour is amazing), and a night sight mode that performs well.. but the Pixel is king. I returned my Pixel 3 XL because the notch was too hideous and the speakers were garbage, but I'm glad we have GCam for the 6T. Stock camera isn't as good as GCam.
And to the op: sorry but I'm calling bs. There's no genuine way you can tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p on a smartphone. Maybe you're confusing the screen quality, which is still very questionable given how old the 6P is, but still - there's no way you can tell the difference between a FHD and QHD panel with the naked eye. You'd have to have the phone about an inch from your eye to possibly see anything.

The pixel 3 xl isn't worth the price at all.
I guess ive used bluetooth headphones the last few years.. Cant be bothered with archaic wired headphones.
Coming off a pixel 1, can cant tell any differences in the ppi except in vr.. And is not much.
Only major loss is the camera., but everyting else makes up for it.

I'd agree with this too. The pixel 3 shoots 10/10 pics great while the 6T is maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. Then portrait mode is not even close! Overall its more than fine for what I use it for

I guess it depends on how important the camera is to you. The Pixel is obviously better, but then again it's probably better than any phone, not just the 6T. I always think I need the best camera, but then in practice, unless I'm on holiday somewhere, I don't even use it that much. Although sure, it would be nice to have.
Part of the problem as well is the tenancy to view photos side-by-side in camera comparison videos and the like. When you directly compare the 6T to something like the Pixel 3 in most cases it's not going to be as good, but in real usage when you're not comparing it to the best in class, it's a fairly capable shooter in its own right.

Been a Google Pixel 2 XL user for the last two years. Love my phone. Looking to upgrade, but I am running into an issue. I don't know if I should go for a 4 XL or try to hold out until the 5 XL drops. Have a slight issue with my charging port. Still works fine, just don't want to try to hold out too long and also don't want to settle. Whatever I decide, I will have to be able to stick with for the next two years and it has to last.
Any thoughts or advice? I have seen a wide range of reviews vilifying and praising the 4 XL's.

I think a better way to do it is you lay down your requirements and what you want from a phone and your general usage of the phone.
Generally Speaking...
Basically, I am looking for something as good as my Pixel 2 XL, but with more life and longevity in it. Ideally, I would like something with more ram, better processor and greater battery life. I have special needs children and my phone is a lifeline. It keeps me in touch with doctors, family, information as well as organized and entertained. I play some games on it but the most taxing is maybe Transformers; Earth Wars. Don't do a lot of streaming. I do have a habit of keeping documents, writing notes or reference material handy. Storage is a consideration. I currently have a 128 gb but don't see anything available from my carrier (Verizon) except for the 64 gb.
What I am interested in is any known issues to look out for or be aware of. I have had very little trouble with my 2 XL, but my Wife suffered with a lot of crashes, freezes, missed calls etc. Even her battery life went to crap. I use my fingerprint scanner a lot. As I understand it, the 4 XL doesn't have it. Had anyone noticed an issue adapting? Is the facial recognition very effective or is it glitchy?
In short, is the 4 XL a solid investment or is it more prudent to try and wait for the 5 XL? Any personal feedback or experience is greatly appreciated.
I had a Pixel 2 XL and it was just fine, but I moved to a Galaxy Note 10+. Don't get me wrong I have always loved Note line but ever since Samsung locked US variant bootloaders I just couldn't get jiggy with it anymore.
So now I have a Pixel 4 XL, like you I was scared of not having the rear fingerprint sensor but let me tell you Face Unlock is great and it's just as good as Apple's Face ID. I know me personally, I like having total control over my device so that's why I chose to go with Pixel again. Yes there are people who will rant and rave about the 4 but I haven't experienced any issues and am loving this device. Especially with it being heavily discounted it was a steal to me.
We're pretty much at the halfway point from when the 4 was released and when the 5 will be. You've waiter this long so why not wait another 6 months?

Well, a minute amount of moisture found its way into my charging port one morning, apparently. By night time I plugged it in and things happened. Long story short, I spent a few days in terror until I found another cord that would work to charge. It's worked great all things considered but now is finicky about how you plug it in. So, I was weighting replacement as soon as I pay it off or if it will last long enough for the 5 XL. Right now I can't use the port for data transfer or accessories, just charging.

Ah okay. Sorry I didn't realize the port was that bad. I came from a Pixel 2 XL and I felt it was worth the upgrade. At it's current price it's definitely worth the price. And actually I take back that we're only 6 months away because I wouldn't get another Pixel on day one. They keep screwing over early adopters and discounting during Black Friday.

I'd say wait for the 5 or even the 4a and save some buck. 4xl battery is very similar to 2x or even worse sometimes. The face unlock on the 4xl works great and it will not be an issue for you.
I think you should consider 4a and get the pixel buds together for less or similar price you will get a 4xl but that's what my thoughts are. Your usage is not too heavy so you can do away with a mid-range pixel easily.
Also, don't forget channels such as Craig's List or OfferUp. You can find great deals there. I bought a brand-new 128-GB Pixel 4 XL on OfferUp for $400. Awesome deal. The best deals are from people who got something as a present or won it, because they have no financial stake in it; to them, whatever money they get is 'profit'. In fact, I buy all my electronics on Craig's List or OfferUp, oftentimes brand-new in box and otherwise like-new.
You can always wait for the next big thing, but you'll never buy anything if you do that, because there's always a new, shinier device around the corner (or at least on the horizon). If the Pixel 5 XL was a matter of weeks, then yes, I'd say you should wait for it, but if you can find a great deal on a Pixel 4 XL now, jump on it. You won't regret it. I love my Pixel 4 XL.
I actually sold my Galaxy S10+ to get the Pixel 4 XL (or rather, return to Pixel, since I had a Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 2 XL before). I just prefer the overall Pixel experience. Yes, looking at pure specs, the Pixel 4 XL is a bit behind other flagship phones. That said, the Pixel 4 XL takes much better photos than the Galaxy S10+, which overprocesses and oversaturates photos and doesn't focus nearly as fast as Pixel. Photos taken on my Pixel *always* turn out great, whereas it's hit or miss with the Galaxy S10+. I thought I'd really miss the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S10+, but I don't, really. The consistently great shots on my Pixel 4 XL more than make up for that.
Specs aren't everything---it's the total experience that matters, and in my view Pixel kills it here.
Face unlock on my Pixel 4 XL works flawlessly. It's so fast you sometimes forget it's actually working. It's not until you're out and about with a face mask on that you realize it's actually doing its job because it doesn't recognize you then (understandably, of course). The finger print scanner on the Galaxy S10+ sucks, plain and simple.
I haven't had any issues in terms of battery life. Yes, the Pixel 4 XL perhaps doesn't last as long in a battery-drain-to-zero contest, but that's not terribly realistic in everyday use. I can easily make it through the day, and I'm always close enough to a charger (in the car, for example) to top up the phone if I have to. The supposed horrible battery life has never been an issue for me.
In short, get the Pixel 4 XL if you can find a good deal on it. You won't regret it!

The only thing about the 4 xl that is "worse" than the 2 xl is the battery. That being said, mine still gets me through the day even if I play Pokemon go or something for an hour and stream YouTube music in the car and general browsing and YouTube usage. It's not bad, just not as good as the 2 xl was. And be careful with the a series pixels. I tried the 3a and you notice the mid tier processor. I couldn't take it. The 3a is a good phone but for me, I didn't like the slow down of the processor.

I have just made the switch from the 2 XL for the exact same reason and while I can't comment on battery life I am happy with the phone so far
My pixel 2xl has been great till last month. Camera stopped working and phone slowing down and sometimes unresponsive.
Should I get the Pixel 4 or Pixel 4XL while they are on sale or wait for the Pixel 4a? I've heard so much bad about the Pixel 4s but want to hear from those that actually are using the phone as their daily.
Which would you upgrade to?

For $300 bux off I would go with the 4XL. I don't think the price will ever be lower. I bought two 4XL's at $200 off at the first price drop around Thanksgiving. I have had zero issues with either one. It's entirely a personal opinion, but I think it would be well worth the current $100 delta between the 4 and 4a.

Frontier02, at $300 off the Pixel 4XL it's a no brainer. I am on my second 4XL, the first one in black I got as soon as they launched, gave that to friend and got the white one next. It has been my daily driver just about every day since the fall. I also have an iPhone X max which I use once every blue moon just to see what ios is about (nothing exciting seems to happen) and I have an S20 Plus. I will pop the sim in that phone for a day at a time, it's a nice phone, great screen but the 4XL just fits me better, haptics, face unlock, etc.
You will love the 4XL, no doubt.
I upgraded to the 4xl from the 2xl on Friday. It's not a huge upgrade in speed or battery life in my opinion. Slightly better performace, about the same battery life. The 4xl does feel a lot nicer but that only really matters if you don't use a case. Still getting used to face unlock but it works good. I'm still happy with the purchase considering the $300 off. My choices are limited because I use Google Fi and non Fi phones don't do the network switching. My recommendation is flash the factory image on your 2xl. If it's still slow w/ a broken camera I'd buy the 4xl while it's on sale. I would not recommend the upgrade to someone with a working 2xl.

I would try flashing the factory images but my company requires 2 factor authentication and to set it up you need a camera. So if I do that and the camera is still broken I can't log into to works computer till I get another phone with a camera that works. I would hate to have to waste the IT guys time twice sending the information to this phone again and not work then doing it again for new phone.
Just purchased the Pixel 4xl. Now eagerly waiting for it to get here, lol.
My Pixel 2XL has been working awesome but lately I feel like I have to keep my finger on the print reader longer or touch it several time for it to read. I just performed a factory reset and I think I'll reset all my prints as well, but I'm not happy with the print reader. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the 4 or wait for 4a. I'd rather keep my 2XL until it dies.
Also, I've been keeping my eye on the Motorola line of phones.... They seem to be coming out with some nice ones

I tried the Moto G Power and returned it within 3 days. The Moto was so slow that it was painful to use. I decided that I wanted to get the Pixel 4 xl from Best Buy at $300 off, but when I arrived at the store they had an open box Pixel 4 xl for $497. The associate let me check it out and it appeared to be brand new so I bought it instead of the new sealed Pixel. Check your local Best Buy for open box phones, you may luck out like I did. The Pixel 4 xl is worth the extra money over the Moto G Power for sure.
I have the 2XL as well and yesterday I ordered the 4XL. Originally I wanted to wait for the 4a, but since the 4 series has launched I have been drooling for the 4XL... Many have negative opinions about the 4s, but I seem to love every bit of it. The look, display, software, camera etc... I expect the DPD driver to turn up today with the phone so I have been sitting in the window since this morning waiting impatiently.... Neighbours probably think something went wrong with me....

I've made the same jump and had my 4 XL for a few days and it's a very nice upgrade without being a massive jump away from what I'm used to, the camera is great the phone is much nicer in the hand can't say to much about battery yet but I'm not disappointed with it
P4 user here. 90 hz is actually amazing. Cannot imagine to go back.
The 4a is a downgrade from the 4 XL, and with the 4 XL being $300 off, it's a no brainer to get the 4 XL now.

If you can get a good deal on the 4 XL now, I'd get it. It's a great phone providing a great user experience. Awesome camera, 90 Hz refresh is smooth, face unlock is super-fast and accurate (don't miss the 3 XL's fingerprint scanner at all). All around great phone that focuses on usability, not just specs.
As opposed to the Galaxy S10+, which has inferior cameras that overprocess and oversaturate photos and has blurring issues with moving subjects (because it's slow focusing), and with a terrible in-screen fingerprint scanner. Photos taken on my Pixel *always* turn out great, whereas it's hit or miss with the Galaxy S10+. I thought I'd really miss the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S10+, but I don't, really.
