Hello everyone
I want to flash a new, fast and nice performance ROM on my Galaxy S5, but i want to keep the stock camera and calendar app.
As far as i know, if i install a new ROM it will delete and replace the stock camera and calendar, so my question is, which ROM Omega or Cyanogen let me do that .
Thank you very much for your help

Omega will let you keep the stock camera. Not sure about the Calendar.
You lose both in CyanogenMOD for sure.

Just out of curiosity, what don't you like about the stock ROM? The performance is on par with any of the alternat ROMs out there, so why risk borking your phone or losing apps that you want to keep?
Just get a different launcher to modify the look and feel of the phone to your tastes.

you're mostly correct but there's one thing that it's very different between TW ROMs (that I've tried) and AOSP ROMs (like CM or Carbon) - the notification and quick settings panels; i'm not sure how much these can be customized on TW ROMs and how easy it is to do so but in their default implementation I find CM's notificaiton and quick setting panels vastly superior to those of TW's

In what way? Been awhile since I used an AOSP ROM...
I mean, the notification panel is such a trivial thing most of the time. Shows battery, clock and basic alerts... To me, it isn't worth the risk of messing up a good phone, or introducing instability or missing features, just to tweak the battery alert or whatever...
I was all into ROMs on older phones like the DroidX, Thunderbolt and some others... because the stock roms were crap. Issues, random reboots, horrible lag, etc... The ROMs got the phones to work properly, they way they were meant to.
But on my LG G2 and now this GS5, I just don't see the need. There is no lag, everything works beautifully, and when I research the ROMs, there is always some bug, some missing feature, something that just doesn't work right... So I don't see any point in switching, when you have 20 launchers to choose from that can make your phone look and feel any way that you want, with no risk and with not having to give anything up...
Each generation of phone and release of Android, makes ROMs more and more obsolete, IMHO... I think that 90% of the people that use them today, do it either out of habit, or just because they want to show off to their nerdy friends.
Nice work!
Well, you are so right, I will keep my stock ROM with the apps I want. But, now I have other question, my GS5 is on ATT and I want to remove the bloatware apps that I don't use, do you know where can I find the complete list for this carrier. Thanks for your time.

What I meant by the notification panel was not just the bar across the top of the screen with a bunch of icons but also the pulled down notification menu as well as the quick settings panel. On TW half of the screen's real estate of the notification menu is taken by a row of toggle icons (which are duplicated on the quick settings screen), two buttons that launch apps that I never used (S Finder and Quick Connect, I don't even know what these apps actually do) and a brightness slider (which in fairness can be disabled, if I recall correctly.)
Then you get to the quick settings panel on which there's also not that many shortcuts that I would use (most of which are for the extra features of TW which I also have no interest in) and there's quite a few that I'd love to see there but they're not available. On CM, on the other hand, the notification menu is clean and simple; it's not bl(essed|oated) with some additional buttons which you may or may not use. The quick settings screen is also much more customizable than that of TW's which only allows for rearanging of toggle icons. On CM you can add, remove and freely arrange all icons on the quick settings screen. And yes, you can add that row of icons to the notification screen and get rid of quick settings altogether, if so you desire.
Some toggles that are available on CM but not on TW are screen time out, lock screen disable/enable or torch. Personally I happen to be using these numerous times throughout the day so while it is only a minor inconvenience to go to the settings and change something manually it adds up quickly if you have to do that often.
To summarize my little rant - the notifications menu and quick settings panel section of the system's interface is used quite often by me (and I'd say others as well) and I simply find inadequate what TW has to offer here. The rest of the TW is either virtually the same as any other version Android or can be easily "fixed", example of which was mentioned by yourself (the launcher).
Now, I agree with you that it may not be worth it for some people to "risk" using a custom AOSP ROM but it can't be denied that by definition such ROMs offer a much greater flexibility and allow one to use their phone exactly how they want (to a greater degree than can be said about TW). Differences can ofcourse be described as "minor" but whether they're significant is for everyone to decide on their own. After all, if there was no need for custom ROMs (whether it's just showing off to nerdy friends or some other reason) people wouldn't create them...

Have a look in this forum. There's a good few "debloated" ROMs over there, and a list of what's removed is sometimes included. As for what to remove the apps with, I would personally recommend Titanium Backup.
Well, I got a refurb. 32GB Nexus 6 on ebay.
Love the phone, so far I unlocked the bootloader and manually flashed the latest 6.0.1 image from the google site.
I have not yet rooted the phone or installed a custom recovery.
I am wondering what kind of tweaks you guys are running on the phone?
So far I want to have these:
DPI change - icons and UI are huge
Black Settings menu
Vibration strength needs to go down
Speaker volume increase
Double Tap to wake
Possibly a better camera app (not sure which one is best, im coming from Lg G4-that phone was crap, battery life and heat killed it for me)
"DPI change - icons and UI are huge"
Pointless, waste of time, unnecessarily risky. Buy Nova Launcher and you can have as many small icons on your home screens and app drawer as you like. (If you're interested I'll post a screenshot).
"Double Tap to wake"
Requires root. I use the app Double Tap to Wake, and it's pretty good but doesn't work 100% of the time. I read a long time ago that it's in the ROM but Google disabled it for this very reason - doesn't work every time, so a flaw in the hardware/ROM, not in the app.
These two in conjunction minimise the use of the power button - and you don't have to look far in this forum to find how many people have power button problems. Double Tap to wake the phone, and Nova's swipe gesture (paid version only) to lock it - great combination. Plus all the other stuff that Nova does, so much stuff that I doubt I use a quarter of its functionality.
And I don't have shares - I'm just a very happy buyer...
I made my own rom.
And Nova Prime is on offer now on Play Store for 50p - 70 cents...
for dpi, i've used an app called textdroider_dpi and set mine to 420 with no problems. Everything works fine - Play store, Android Pay etc and it looks great.
For volume, use the ROM in my sig. It's sweet
Looks like the OP has lost interest...?
We begin with a premise. We are a facebook group that has as its object the OnePlus3 (The group name’s is OnePlus3/3T ITA). We decided to collect our ideas to suggest to you what OnePlus Developer should add to our device to make it perfect.
This is the suggestion list that we hope you will implement. Many of these requests want to be implemented as a possibility of choice. When you buy a OnePlus you want to have more liberty of customization.
HOME CUSTOMIZATION:
1- A better weather application:
- more information (such as Google Now or Windows 10 PC-style)
- a better widget on shelf bar*!
*I now that i can tap on the top to open weather application but it would be nice see a greater integration with more information.
2- Ability to have another swipe from right to left to access to the news of google now (after the shell).
3- Ability to access to the app drawer as the new Pixels Launcher with a swipe from bottom to top.
4- A package of circular icons.
5- Being able to change the display grid of apps in the app drawer and the home.
6- Ability to remove the drawer and leave all apps in the home (such as iOS or Miui).
HARDWARE BUTTON:
7- Ability to set the lateral slider as follows: ringer, vibrate, silent (Also this based on the choice of people. Just put a simple option in the settings).
8- One handed mode with a swipe on central button touch.
CAMERA:
9- Frontal Flash with the use of screen brightness. We need this feature for selfie during night or dark place.
10- Manual mode during video.
11- Ability to record video in HDR mode.
12- Slow Motion with audio.
13- A best correction of the white balance in manual mode with a slider (as LgG4 or LgG5).
OTHER REQUEST:
14- A Toggle for the pocket mode (switch on/off).
15- Enter to the clock app by clicking on the time in the bar of the expanded notifications.
16- Ability to personalize the night mode with different screen temperatures. Like “twilight” app.
18- Quick access to the battery from the notification bar as in the version 3.2.X.
19- Ability to set the background of the app and the notifications bar completely BLACK (not only dark grey. That is not nice).
20- Integration of an energy saving system that would limit the use of the CPU without affecting the application synchronization and data in the background.
Even an "ultra power saving mode" as on Galaxy s6/s7 would be very nice.
21- Ability to zoom the video in the playback phase (as on LgG4 and G5) with a simple "pinch to zoom". This is a COOL FEATURE.
22- Always On function.
All of us in the facebook group OnePlus3/3T ITA want to thank OnePlus and his team for the way they are working on our terminal. We also hope that these requirements listed above will be upheld in positve way.
THANK YOU
P.S: If you (that you're not part of the facebook group) share these ideas, copy them and put them in the last question ("Do you have any advice that we can use to improve the next beta builds? Please describe in detail") of the feedback of CB 3.5.4.
All I want is for oneplus to open up their camera to third party devs... CM14 is better than anything oneplus has been able to offer, but we need a better camera!

This is a trascription of a Carl Pei's interview to XDA's community : "We want to, and we’ve been talking about internally. So there’s a challenge with the camera because if we want a blob, then there are two major challenges. The first one being, the code relating to the camera is on a lot of layers, so you have something related to the camera on the framework level, something on the Android level, something on a system level. So we’re gonna have to rewrite a lot of code to be able to separate it in a way that allows us to blob it. And the second reason is, if we were to blob it the result is that the speed will suffer, so the speed of the camera UX on custom ROMs will suffer. We’re still trying to figure out a way of how we can release something that will help people improve the camera in their custom ROMs without making the experience become too bad. And we don’t want something with our logo to have a poor experience either. So it is going to be a little bit harder than we thought, but we’ve been discussing this"

Also, ability to have different sound level Calls and Notifications
Ability to hide apps in app drawer and make folders.
And private mode in gallery, working with fingerprint would be nice.
Different sound levels for calls and notifications.
Always on display which consumes just a little battery
For me the one trivial thing that really should be addressed are those awful accent colors. Especially for the dark theme.
The palette used is so pale! Except for the green and the sky blue I don't think anyone really likes the others. They really should change those to Material Design colors or atleast give the option to customize.
1. The most important !!! I want to be able to instal any rom without reflashing recovery, firmware or anyting else.
2. I want to set Finger print to lock/unlock screen without any pass or pattern, that means to work everytime.
3. Camera to make Macro photos.
The purpose of this thread is simple...
To discuss anything that will truly add features to our phone... As we know this is a light skinned version of stock Android
And here I will be presenting links to apps and threads and everyone can contribute... Which add features to Op5...
Not just ui customizations..... Features...
Definition of a feature...
Something which your phone does which it couldn't do before that app..
So come on guys.. Lets start...
Though I did hate the laggy TouchWiz. I did live the s pen and S note...
And honestly speaking you wll too...
Let's try and customize our Op5.. To the extent that we want to...
This thread will present a series of apps and threads links etc..
Which will help the user to truly add whatever features they want from whatever skin htc sense Samsung TouchWiz to their op5
And I am no developer so please help me out here...

MacroDroid - Device Automation

Amazing UI. In my experience better than Tasker.
How about Always On AMOLED - BETA?
It's a simple app which keeps your screen on always (like MOTO devices). Nice and cool. If you pay a small amount you get an unlocked version with customization...
Loved the suggestions guys... Specially the always on amoled

I have two minor additions I'd want added:
1. More customizable theme colors (or honestly I just want red back!)
2. Invertable color option for the system tray
TL;DR add automatic rules
I had a note 5 I loved it, unfortunately it didn't like the hot tub.. TBH I never used the pen much, but when I did it was handy, perfect for field work; snap a pic, doodle on it, send it off. Awesome! I was torn between buying a note FE or the OP5, I'm glad I stuck with OP from a 2 to a 3 to a 5. I've become a flash-a-holic.
The feature I'd love to see is "automatic rules" you can actually get access to the setting on OOS if you have nova launcher, but it just doesn't work. I'm using "#1 profile" to automatically set the phone to priority only at bed time, this shouldn't be a difficult thing for OP to add/activate to OOS.
I'd also like the old dialer, or for that matter any other dialer, swipe down to answer for me is counter intuitive. Like thumbs up thumbs down, swipe up to answer, or swipe down to reject a call.
I wish you could choose the text bubble colour in the default sms app. Like textra or Google messages (too bad they don't have a dark theme for Google messages).
A setting to switch the wireless data indicator from 4g to LTE, I'm not sure why this bugs me, but it does.
How about Tiles? Also, Virtual Hosts is excellent for setting up a root free ad block. Just download one of Steven Black's host files from GitHub and point the app to it.
Would love for buttons and gestures (especially screen off) to be able to invoke app shortcuts. Just imagine the possibilities for Tasker.
Always on display.
Notification badges on the stock launcher so I can enjoy the shelf.

I don't understand why not a single stock ROM has long-press volume to skip track. Its such a simple feature. Its baked into every single custom ROM out there. It was there on Sony Ericsson phones (Walkman and K series). I need to get the damn phone out of the pocket, turn the screen on, unlock, open notifications shade, and press to skip a god damn song. (Not all headphones come with buttons, and not all headphones support skipping songs by multi-pressing the buttons.)
2 features I'd love added:
1. Long press back to kill app
2. Brightness slider in notification drop down. I know there is one, but you have to fully extend it to change it. My S7 had the option to place it in the first drop down.
Yeah I agree with most of you, some useful additions:
1. Badges on the Stock OP Launcher! I love it from my iPhone and sometimes forget to answer because I swyped the notification away and no badges to know there are still unread messages
2. Always On or something similar, but only if it doesn't use too much battery and no burn-in
3. Kill all apps in background with one button gesture
I'd love to see OMS commits get to OOS and probably experiment with the Kernel a bit (I know you can flash a custom, but if you'd like to stay complete stock, without unlocking). Maybe improve audio libs similar to ARISE....
How about a one-handed mode feature? That would be pretty helpful.
- Options to block QS & Power menu on secured lockscreen. (Smart Lockscreen protector app does the job, but it's service doesn't start at boot until the first unlock...)
- Skip music tracks using volume keys
- Built in Caffeine tile (the one from play store works well, but doesn't reset when turning screen off).
- Launch torch using power button long press when screen is off
- One-handed mode
- Center status bar clock
Hi guys,
1- badges for notifications. All my previous phones had this function.
2- more functions in auto mode for camera app, it's too basic for me. And in pro mode, I cannot set up the luminosity if the speed is in manual.
3- ultra power saving mode, like Samsung does, very useful when no more battery and we know no access to electricity for several hours.
4- Resize several pictures at the same time. Sometimes I need to send some pictures but the weight is too big.
1. Badges for unread msg or any notification
2. Always on
3. Camera should have more modes
4. Blurred wallpaper on lock screen
Always on clock
Ability to have status bar icons anywhere ie: signal on left
Ability to use dual cameras for wide angle
Ability to use normal USB-C to HDMI cables (not displaylink, Chromecast and wireless solutions are not fit for gaming, one of the 1+5s strongest points)
Screen off/on animation
List view animations
Full halo support
I'll think of more but that's my list of wants
Hello everybody.
I noticed there are some issues trying to use third party launchers such as NOVA or SmartLauncher.
Or, at least, that's what happens to me with the One UI 3.1.
I've been using NOVA since my first NEXUS and since then, moving to S7 up to the Note 10, even after choosing to be part of the Beta Testing Program, I've never had problems.
Now there are some laggy and crash issues. With both of the launchers aforementioned.
I don't know if this is due to the choice of using gestures instead on the buttons in the navigation bar (it doesn't look like, considering I tried to change) but it causes strange "movements" everytime I go back home: like the launcher restarts itself, if you know what I mean.
That never happened on my last device (the Note 10) with One UI 2.5: that's the reason why I'm seriously thinking it could be a problem of compatibility with the latest stock UI version.
Anybody with the same problem? Same issues? Or this "monster" behaves like it should?
Thank you
Best
IMPORTANT EDIT: I tried again and yes, it is gesture related. Deactivating the gesture navigation bar, everything went back to normal.
Yup, same issue. Flashes white after the next immediate touch action, blocking whatever that action was. Doesn't affect the stock launcher. I reported it to Samsung through their members app. Had to switch off of gesture navigation because of it. Dunno if the other gesture navigation is broken but I'm on buttons again.
I'm using good lock one hand operation + and FNG to compensate so left and right are still back. Swipe up is home and swipe up hold is recents.
Well the issue is with Google's gesture implementation. I am facing the issue with gestures too and contacted Nova launcher support and they have blamed google for it.
Its true, disabling gestures, everything works fine. I hope someone will find a solution to this.
I used Microsoft launcher and it seems fine.

I'm running a 10+ on Pie. The native launcher is fast and very stable.
I played around with Nova and a few others including Hyperion launcher. The latter boot looped my stock 10+ twice, back to back.
2 factory resets latter I was fuming. That was the first app to ever boot loop any of my Androids in 6 years. The developer had nothing to say. REALLY? F$$$ that!
Launchers have a very real potential to cause a boot loop. Take any instability seriously; there should be none.
The stock launcher uses less battery.
Because of all the Samsung built in customization plus Galaxy Store plugins and the Good Lock family of apps, the stock launcher is better than even Nova. Easier to use and more stable.
I stopped wasting my time sampling launchers. My last reload was almost a year ago; it remains fast, very stable with low battery usage. It looks and runs great... what's not to like?

Hi.
I must say that you're right: latest UI version in very fast and stable. All the possibilities you can add with GOOD LOCK are definitely a serious improvement. There is a "missing" feature, though: those damn' icons.
I really don't understand why we must be forced to use those ugly ones on the Galaxy Store and why they decided not to allow us to change at least the shape (with the UI 3.1), as this is a stock functionality.
Let's see what will happen in the future.

Works just fine with UI 3.1

I agree to an extent, but the current version on One Ui Home has a number of issues as well;
Freezing whenever you long press on the home screen, so you can't add widgets
Task changer keeps resetting
Why oh why won't they give us vertical scrolling in the apps menu
I distinctly remember there being similar issues with my s10+ at launch, so hopefully be fixed in the future

The last point is true however the first two aren't for me. No issues with widgets or Task changer.
The white icon label lettering irritates me though but it's not not all the trouble comes with 3rd party launchers.

Sure. Full of crappy icons and comic-sans-like fonts... Not considering that those on the Galaxy Store only change the stock icons and a few more.

Believe me, I would be happy just having the possibility to choose the shape, as every other manufacturer on the planet allows.

Shape? Round, square... -far- less worse than Google or Apple designs
It's a pain sorting through them but there are good ones in there that most will like... for free.
If you're willing to take the performance and stability hit to have the "shape" well every rose has it's thorns.

Me too! No problems until now!
I have been using nova launcher on my s21 ultra, since i got the phone ( with no gestures, only buttons ).
And i thought i was having a nice experience.
A few days ago i messed up my phone, debloated the wrong apps and had to factory reset. Since i was going with a fresh install i decided to use OneUI + some goodlock modules.
Boy.. i was wrong about the nova experience. Now i know how fluid and responsive the phone is supposed to be.
Anyway, apart from that, this is the official info from NOVA:
Google has made it very clear that they have no plans to completely fix gesture-related issues any time in the near or even distant future.
Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android (stated March 2019).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android 10 and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google have now made it clear that they have no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include:
• Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
• Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
• Animations not being as fluid as expected
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as we have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.

Install Hexed from the Play Store. Personalize a theme and in preferences check Navigation Bar Height and set it to 0. In regular Android settings make sure it's set to use the NavBar buttons and not the gestures. Install any third party gestures app that you like. Set up your third party gestures app then restart the phone. Then you'll have fully working third party gestures and everything will work like it used to. This is the only way I have found that fully fixes the gesture issues.
