Anyone know if the exynos version would work on verizon? I assume that that it would but the 1x and 3g would not. lol, i would be ok with that if i also go root and TWRP.
My follow up question is where could we order it? It would be nice to get it right from samsung, but i don't see that option.
I have the same question

i think this is the place to buy it. Since they will open it up and use one of their sims to make 5 minutes of calls before sending it to us, so it doesn't lock up once we get it.
Has anyone used 4g exclusively on verizon, what are the drawbacks?
I know where to buy it here in the US. I could actually buy it today. Just want to know if it will work on Verizon

I dont think you will be able to use it to make phone calls or msg because verizon use a CDMA network for this and the exynos version doesnt have this. Just my guess.
Samsung's soc never supports cdma (big Q owns the patents) so that's why the rest of the world who aren't on cdma gets the exynos versions

That's not true at all, my Galaxy Tab S2 is an Exynos and runs on Verizon LTE., and the galaxy S6 was an Exynos 7420 on Verizon.
Oh I stand corrected. I knew the tablets were supported but figured since you don't make calls from them, it wouldn't need cdma. In either case, unless it's made for Verizon, the exynos versions won't natively support Verizon.
The FCC filing shows it support the Verizon LTE bands, but no CDMA bands.
It would probably work for data but I am not sure if it would work for calls, unless they implement VOLTE on the international version for Verizon.
Guys it's best to wait for the North American unlocked version (Qualcomm chip) to become available in a couple of weeks or so.
It will definitely work on both Verizon and Sprint and their MVNOs.
I can see bhphotovideo taking preorders for it already, and the page is setup on bestbuy. This is the S8 version I'm gonna go for. Downside is it will cost you a little more, but it is worth it to me to know I can use it on all US carriers.
Edit: looks like bhphoto added the model numbers for their preorders as "SM-G950F" and "SM-G955F", which is the same as the European/global GSM version. So that is Exynos chipset powered, and it's a no go for CDMA guys.
The plus on this model is it gets the software updates more quickly than the US unlocked model. (This is still speculation based on Samsung not updating SM-G930U to Android 7 for months while the SM-G930F and the US carrier models already received their updates.)

Unlocked as in "unlocked for all carriers" (or "sim free" is what Samsung UK calls their SM-G95*F versions). But I wouldn't be surprised if the bootloader is also unlocked.
My guess, even with the unlocked (unencrypted) bootloader, is once you flash a custom ROM/recovery it will still trip the Samsung Knox binary counter and void the warranty. This is just speculation based on Samsung's devices in the past. We have to wait until someone gets their hand on the US unlocked version.

i buy international versions all the time...
don't listen to all these people who just make things up but never used it.
supported bands according to this site just an example:
http://www.china-prices.com/phone/bands/7922/samsung-galaxy-s8-exynos
I have the exynos s7 i bought from B&H in US. on verizon CDMA won't connect, but if you are in a region with VOLTE and you don't travel within US, it should be fine.
all the international versions have much better support if you are on ATT/Tmobile where GSM is the "3g/crippled 4g" I left verizon for Tmobile just to get better support for Exynos.
now... i didn't check validity of the site above, but it gives u an idea. i just wanted to chime in.
Exynos has much better power management IMO. my wife's phone is S7 tmobile variant, and when i was using s7 Exynos, my battery life was BETTER AND i use the phone way more than her throughout the day.
going to, i actually bought s8 TMobile this time... just so i can use samsung pay... samsung pay will work if you modify the CSC and install spay/framework, but guess i'm getting old and getting lazy
exynos will likely get rooted FIRST, and the first root type will likely trip Knox, and without Knox, no samsung pay...
TLDR. Exynos will work on vzw but not all the bands. if you think it's too risky, don't get it.
2 upsides that actually matter IMO when it comes to Exynos versions.
1. less bloat, I say less, because Exynos versions come with all kinds of CSCs from all over the world. and depending on where it came from... you'll see it installing regional specific apps on your initial boot. 1 year i had a phone with Arab CSC and it installed bunch of apps made for Arabs... on another phone i had a UK CSC and it installed all kinds of UK news apps.
2. better battery
3. faster updates from sammobile

I read it I just think its a dumb GSM phone for people that have a dumb CDMA phone provider. LTE only is not a solution Verizon people simply need Verizon phones. Just like Sprint people need Sprint phones. Getting international GSM phones for use on CDMA service providers is stupid. Thats one reason CDMA is crap compared to GSM. Unlocked phones like some apple and moto and rare samsung are the best solution. Best Buy will have the unlocked snapdragon available in 2 weeks for $725/$825

You dont need regular calls? You are going LTE only and hoping you dont miss any calls? If you are using hangouts for calls and don't need cellular phone calls then go get one. Ebay, amazon, they have them for sale, forget warranty unless you want a huge hassle.

I understand everything. I was wondering who has done it in the past. Everyone in my company with the latest update from Verizon has seen their CDMA coverage disappear. Where they once had CDMA service, they now have none. Verizon seem to really be pushing the VoLTE. I've had phones where i have disabled all non 4g bands, because i didn't like it switching, and it actually worked better for me. The main reason i ask is because the international version has root and TWRP. Hopefully the US version will get root, but i don't think we'll every get an unlocked bootloader. The verizon version is already sim unlocked, so i'm not looking for more sim unlocked phones that don't have root.

Does anybody know if the unlocked s10 will have access to Multi-line settings or has had experience with previous unlocked variants having access?
On T-Mobile this setting is specifically used for native "Digits" functionality without having to use an app. It's the only concern I have purchasing the unlocked variant.
I can't speak for the S10. The Note 9 however has built in Digits support in the TMobile variant, but requires downloading the app for the US unlocked variant. Chances are the S10 is also like this.

So I had Unlocked S8 on T-Mobile and I believe S9 and S10 might have the same thing. Basically unlocked version only had: WiFi Calling, Band 12 and VoLTE and there was no Milti-Line setting, unless if you get T-Mobile branded phone. What I have done to my S8, is I flashed it with T-Mo firmware and got all the features without bloatware
This time I ordered S10e unlocked and upon getting it, will inspect and see which features unlocked model will offer and if need be, will flash to T-Mobile firmware

When you say that you didn't have any TMobile bloatware when you flashed the TMobile firmware, are you referring to the general TMobile apps (like TMobile account app, VVM, etc)? or are you referring to some other 3rd party apps that TMobile puts on post-firmware. I always thought the TMobile apps would be there if flashing TMobile firmware, but I could be wrong.

3rd party apps, for example "Lookout" antivirus app wasn't there and other that T-Mobile might put there. These apps need to be disabled and can't be uninstalled. I am fine with T-Mobile account app and VVM. When flashing, just need to flash main firmware files(4 of them) and the 5th one was userdata, which has all the unneeded stuff
When you do this, don't you void something that doesn't let you use samsung pay, etc?

Not a big deal as there were times when T-Mobile for example would release monthly security patches couple of weeks earlier and possibly the Android upgrade version early too(not always though). As I understand that Samsung is obligated to release an update for carrier branded phones and then can released for their unlocked units. If you would want to flash your phone down the road, you could. It is just the process may not be as straight forward as flashing unlocked model
Ok one thing I learned today as I was setting up my s10+. The Multi-line feature is still not activated in S10+ (most likely in other s10 variant as well). I spoke with Tmobile Digits team and it was just confirm to them yesterday that S10 doesn't support multi-line yet. The only way to use DIGITS is trough the digits app. It's definitely a bummer.
I was also told that the same situation applies to the previous phones during launch (S9 or Note9) where it wasn't initially activated. It was delivered through a software upgrade afterwards. So I'm hoping this software update arrives sooner than later.
Hope this helps other member's using DIGITS.

I took multiple tries on chat and call. Luckily I got forwarded to DIGITS team and the person knows exactly the issue and is not reading off knowledge base or written instructions.
Hopefully it arrives soon as I don't want to use the DIGITS app for it.
T-Mobile DIGITS team has actually been telling customers that the native multiline feature will not be coming to the S10 or supported on other devices anymore because they destaffed that dev team. They are phasing out the feature. Absolutely horrible decision. The DIGITS app is hot trash. They have a **** load of customer pissed about it. Especially in the business segment like me. There's a scathing thread over on the T-Mobile's forums about it.
So, now T-Mobile DIGITS experts are telling people that they are waiting on an update from Samsung to make the feature possible again.
So, I don't what the **** is going on. It's ****ery.
Unless we hear something directly from Samsung, everything is now just hear say. I'm still hoping for a software update to push out the feature.
Actually, the multi-line setting was garbage. Even on my previous Note 8 and current unlocked Huawei P20 Pro, I use the DIGITS app. Luckily, with previous T-Mobile lines, got DIGITS for free. For new customers and new lines, I think it costs some monthly fees.
Thank you!

Hey, thank you so much for posting this. I tried to contact thru customer support, Twitter, calls, walk-ins.. Seems like T-Mobile employees aren't aware not only of this issue, but of the option at all..
don't mean to resurrect this old thread, but i got my S10 a few days ago and just got off the phone with the DIGITS support, after being transferred numerous times by people that didn't know what i was even talking about. the guy said that samsung told them (tmobile) a few months ago that they are removing multi-line settings from all new devices and that users need to start using the DIGITS app instead. he even said that with any further updates on the phones that currently have multi-line settings, the updates will actually remove those settings from the phones. pretty crappy if you ask me.
I'm still using a Samsung S7 with multi-line set to On, with T-Mobile. I didn't like their Digits app, much prefer the phone's native multi-line ability. However, as others above have said, T-Moble Digits support told me that Samsung was going to remove that ability. For now, it still works albeit buggy. I have to turn the phone off then on multiple times a day to keep the second line working properly. Does anyone know another Android phone that supports multi-line with T-Mobile, but correctly?
After crossflashing my sprint device to US Unlocked software since last year. I haven't gotten any updates since. There are like 2 updates released since then. Anyone getting the same issues ?
Attached are screenshots.
Use LGUP to update now. We're on 20e. And hopefully sometime soon, LG will release Android 10.

You cannot get OTA updates once you have crossflashed. You have to manually update via KDZ & LGUP.
What carrier are you using it on? I crossflashed my Sprint V405UA phone onto V405QA7 firmware but am not getting any VoLTE or VoWiFi at all (also rooted and bootloader unlocked). I'm on a T-Mobile MVNO, which should have VoLTE. Also, LTE Band 71 is a no no for me even though it's available in my area. My phone also only has 3 LTE band selection menus (I used shortcut master lite) that are very buggy and is missing the T-Mobile hidden menu.

Sigh the only thing I really can't take is the constant data loss during updates. I feel I'll hold out till Android 10
I bought an ATT v40 for super cheap off ebay but needed to use a verizon MVNO so I just bought a verizon branded one. Is it possible to get the ATT one to work on verizon? Should I change the firmware on either?
Edit: Also, I should add that the phone is SIM locked. ATT won't let me unlock it because they say it is still financed. I wonder if I should pay one of those unlocking sites to unlock it or return it?

I haven't got it either. I think sometimes it has something to do with your sim card, even on the unlocked model. I use Visible, so I'm probably not getting it for a while lol.

I don't think that's the issue. The only country the update is being pushed out to at the moment is Germany from what I read on another web site. Hopefully we will be getting it stateside soon. If you have an unlocked like myself then your carrier does not have anything to do with firmware updates.

very likely need patched Odin to flash it. Buyer beware tho, if the U1 FW isnt out yet and you successfully flash any of these, you cant go back until the FW is released
I received ATJ5 update earlier when I manually checked for updates. Seems stable. Touchscreen issues seem much much better so far.

Been using my unlocked S20 FE (G781U1) for about a week now, that I got directly from Samsung, and still no updates. Stuck on the September security update.
Coming from an unlocked Pixel 3 that I used for 2 years, this is really weird! I always thought unlocked versions were the first to get the updates.

So, I've noticed that for some reason Samsung unlocked devices seem to get their updates pushed immediately AFTER the big 3 carriers have pushed their updates for some reason.
I'm using the Unlocked version on ATT, and I received the October security update on the 24th. Touch issues do seem improved, no complaints so far.
I've been following this on Reddit and Facebook. Nobody I know or have seen post that has an Unlocked model on T-Mobile is getting the update. If you swap the SIM out for a non-T-Mobile SIM, it will allow it to update. I actually tried an AT&T SIM today, saw it allowed an update, swapped my T-Mobile SIM back in, then it said no updates available (on September patch).
This makes no sense why T-Mobile is not sending the updates to UNLOCKED phones. I have submitted tickets to both Samsung and T-Mobile regarding this delay. No major response except for: "we're working on it". Unacceptable.

That's both crazy and annoying, but having been with T-Mobile for a few years I can't say I'm surprised. They've been last to the party more often than not when it comes to updates. Do you know if T-Mobile has pushed the October update to the T-Mobile (non-unlocked) variant of this device?? I bet they haven't yet.

google drop it on the first monday of every month unless it's a public holiday in the US i.e. september (labor day) which is then a tuesday (i.e. when android 10 last year and 11 this year dropped)
Usually 2/3pm eastern (7/8pm UTC)
Thanx
Its available now at https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Once again Verizon update delayed a week until the 14th.
Just got December security update
For clarification because my unlocked 3XL OTAs never had separate carrier updates like this: the Verizon update is for ALL phones (unlocked and VZ locked) on the Verizon network?
If so, does this have to do with the mmwave 5G network configuration?

Same, but what makes you think its carrier dependent? Visible phones are the same as ones sold by Google and/or Bestbuy as unlocked. I am thinking to download the "RQ1A.201205.011" from Google and ADB-sideload it via recovery, but kinda waiting to see if nobody has just done this and had nasty consequences, such as data wipe, bootloops, etc. I am not eager to hard-reset.
So I updated to the december security patch and after I flashed my magisk patched boot.img the battery icon in the status bar is acting weird. It looks empty with no white in the middle, anyone else getting this?
EDIT: NEVERMIND, found out the issue was my 9 tiles magisk module, after removing the battery icon was back to normal.

I got the OTA update yesterday.
You can follow the Release of OTA Updates here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/stock-ota-updates-changelogs-07-12-2020.4185209/
I Update the thread/OP only after the Update is available usually within an hour after Google published it
I'm a bit confused by the various carrier flavors of OTA -- I purchased my (unlocked) pixel 5 from the google store but I use ATT for carrier service.
Will flashing the ATT flavor lock my device in some capacity? Or is that just for radio?
Thank you!!

Good question, i'd usually assume ROM doesn't affect SIM lock in any way or form, but i'd be reluctant to flash an update that contains a carrier junk in it, and possibly a locked bootloader i may end up being unable to reflash again.
I really don't think the ROM you flash should depend on the carrier you are currently on, and i wouldn't flash a carrier-customized one.
Why would you want to flash the ATT version on it?
I have the VZW version and it sucks they aren't releasing the update till next week. What is in the build that's different from the non-vzw versions? Hate vzw but the black friday deal was too good to pass up.
Anybody knows anything about any fixes and functional changes besides the feature drop? Each month, Google lists the Pixel specific fixes like this:
Google Android Pixel Security Update - November 2020 - Google Pixel Community
support.google.com
This month, the accoring page just talks about "several fixes and improvements across many areas including performance, stability, battery, and more":
Google Android Pixel Security Update - December 2020 - Google Pixel Community
support.google.com
I am really interested in knowing wether the infamous "GPay payments fail" issue was fixed for the P5.
If I bought the unlocked Pixel 5 from the google store and have verizon as my carrier, which OTA should I sideload?

The one that's coming on 14.12.2020. Verizon builds are always a week behind.
