I was having trouble installing something that was able to still see my phone was rooted. I figured maybe hiding Magisk and the Manager would help. But now it's just been sitting for several minutes with the spinning circle hourglass (or whatever it's called these days... god I deel old lol).
Should I force quit Magisk Manager? What should I do here? I'm scared to do the wrong thing and brick my phone! Please help! Thank you!
You can force quit it, it won't cause any major issues. You'll likely end up with a nonfunctioning Manager though, so if the stub (the app without a proper icon named "Manager", or whatever name you have it when hiding) doesn't work you'll have to uninstall it, and likely also the regular Magisk Manager and install the apk again.

okay I just swiped the app up to quit it and when I tried launching it again it showed that it was denied super user rights and then quit. then I launched the app that I found that I renamed it as and it seems to be working there. now the Magisk Manager app is actually not showing on my phone anymore, just managerMgsk (the babe i used). so I guess it worked renaming it but just got stuck at the end of the process or something. thanks again!

Yes. Uninstall and try again.
I am also getting an install error.
I have tried to uninstall the existing 1.1.1 version using the Expsetup but still won't install.
I'm thinking that clearing all associated data for facebook would help but don't know the directories etc that I would need to delete.
phil
That did it, thanks!

Where to get Facebook 1.1.2?
I unistalled V1.1.1 but still cant install new version 1.1.2!!! went to aplication manager and found a file that says com.facebook.katana but doesnt let me do anything with it.
Any ideas?
If you're having problems uninstalling, that's because you used an update.zip and it is installed in the system/app folder. You have to use terminal or adb to mount the folder as rw to remove it.
My question, though, is it better than the one from droid? Cuz if not then I don't want to waste my time updating...

Anyone mind upping the APK? Removed all traces of FB from my phone and packages.xml and it still refuses to install.

Most importantly would be to ask how do you get your system back to normal so you can install updates later.
I know at one time I messed with my prop file to install the Nav at one time. I wonder if that could be a problem. I removed the Facebook app, but it told me it wasn't compatable so I wonder if it that prop file is affecting anything.
Put the original build.trout.prop file back in the /system folder. Deleted the old Sholes/droid version via the market and it installed without a hitch.
It doesn't seem to like a modified prop file.
To me personally it looks just like the droids version except the white bar at the top is fixed.
Heres the line you want to change back.
ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/kila/dream/trout:1.6/DRC83/14721:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys
or upload this buid.trout.prop file to your /system folder. Just drop the .txt from the end.
EDIT.
After fighting a bit with the prop file I ended up just reflashing the rom that I originally installed which over wrote the modded prop file. Now I'm back to the orginal file and then I used the APK provided here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5147596&postcount=16
After that I uninstalled it via the market and reinstalled it now I'm back to where I should be.
So you could use that stock prop file, but after 5 or so tries it was sorta mixed results.
Anyone got the apk? I tried the site posted above but nothing happened.

Greatly appreciated.. This will help out many.
what commands in terminal to mount the folder as rw to remove it?
i used a script to switch my build.trout, but i used the script to switch back to the old one and i can't get FB to install. i never did anything to mod these for the nav and FB a few weeks ago.

Some how I got a message the other day "your trial version of swype is out of date" or whatever. So I dled the beta but I can't install it unless I remove the current. Here is what I've done and trust me IV searched xda and have done everything ppl have said.
I have a rooted done obviously
Dled astro explorer as well as root explorer to try and removed the files located in /system/app as well as the libswype file. It WONT let me delete them because its a system file. I've also tried to delete swype in titianium back up! And still doesn't remove of after the rebooted. I honestly don't know wtf to do at this point. I don't even know y swype all of a sudden told me my trial period is over. Its. Crazy. If someone could give me some sort of work around I'd appreciate it. Thanks alot

Try this:
Change your input method to something other than swype.
Reboot into CWM, make sure your system partition is mounted.
Fire up adb, and use these commands:
adb root
adb shell
rm -i /system/app/swype.apk (or whatever the swype installer's name is - use the "ls" command to find it if you need to)
rm -i (location of libswype files, repeating as necessary - sorry, I don't have my phone on me to tell you where they are)
exit
adb reboot
With any luck, that should get rid of it.
you see that little button in the top right corner of root explorer that says mount r/w? press that and then delete it...

I just switched to FF and was having this same problem. THANK YOU.
Yes I read three other threads one explained copy and paste into /system/apps folder and the other to try installing a different version and I'm not about to re-flash for a damn camera
OK so here's the issue that I would appreciate help for,
I made the same mistake as many others, I used SGS tools which I saw was for froyo (and I will uninstall soon as I remember) to replace my camera with gizmodroids modded cam which allows the pressing of the power button to take pictures.
Unfortunately for me I thought I backed my app up went ahead and tried installing the modded cam and voila! now my cam is F***** up but worry not with sending me a link or uploading the apk I got my hands on it.
What I need is to know why the eff nothings working for me when I try to install it and if I will ever get it working without re-flashing :/ I get the "App not installed" error I am running uckk4 v706 on 2.3.5 SGS Captivate.
Thanks so much in advance, you guys are the best.

Thanks for the response, Yes. I am stumped
Because it's a system app, the package installer only installs user apps...to /data/app. You need a root file explorer and paste that apk into /system/app

I did paste it in there, I stated so on the first post. then after pasting I tested it and nothing still, it freezes then shuts off.
WOW! I am so embarrassed right now.... All I had to do was restart, and I always do that but I was so frustrated with the fact that I effed it up... -_-'
Sorry I wasted your time and thanks for the help I totally was like ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) gad dammit when I realized what I missed...
When I opened Magisk Manager today it prompted me with this message:
Install Magisk Manager
Do you want to install MagiskManager-v5.4.0.apk now?
With the options "NO THANKS" and "INSTALL".
Problem is if I select "Install" nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
Same here I am wondering what's up.

Same here too. Update not work. Have install manuel and its working.
That is because of a bug in the Manager v5.3.0. Download the current Manager from the release thread and install manually.
After a reboot the update worked just fine. Go figure...

I have a couple of devices, update worked fine for one device, never worked for the other, even after reboot... Have to do it manually. Yes go figure
EDIT: I suspected the new APK was already downloaded somewhere on the device, and it was indeed.
Located at the root of internal storage (usually under /storage/emulated/0) I found MagiskManager-v5.4.0.zip. Launched installation and all was set Might help others facing the same issue, without having to manually download the APK.
Happened to me as well, it turned out Magisk Manager didn't have storage permission granted, i did that and it worked.

Open apps-> magisk-> permissions and tick on storage, make sure its turned on.
That totally fixed it!
Many thanks!
Fixed a pain!
Thanks people.

That's very little to go on... Are you asking for help? In that case you need to provide a lot more details and a bunch of logs.

My hope was it is a known problem and there's a solution for that.
I will try another Rom. Perhaps it will work then. But thanks for your input.
Hello!
On my Nexus 6P running LineageOS, I'm unable to automatically update Magisk. It finds the update and gives me a notification but nothing happens when I click install.
On my OnePlus One, also running LineageOS, it's all done automatically just fine.
Am I doing something wrong or is this something that has to be fixed upstream?
Make sure that the Manager has storage permission. You might have to grant it manually.

I feel Magisk should ask for permissions instead of just not working though.
