Messages very slow unless rolled back - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

My first pixel 5 was fine with Messages. Ran very fast and smooth and was on the latest version. My replacement pixel 5 has issues with Messages - messages are extremely slow to load or send, lord knows about receiving them. I had to uninstall all updates and disable auto-update and it works fine. Then on December 10th I saw that Messages was updated with bug fixes, so I updated and had the same issues. I had to roll back all updates to use Messages.
Anyone else have this issue?

Hangouts/texting issue

My wife and I have both noticed that (we use Hangouts) that when texting/sending messages that the message we type in an or receive does not always show up. We have to close out the message then go back in to see the message. Sometimes backing out of the message we can see it in the preview but when we go back in it doesn't show up. Have to close hangouts then go back in and the message shows up. It's very annoying.
I have same issue #blamegoogle
Yup. If you Uninstall hangouts updates it fixes the issue. It's happening on a number of devices right now

I have the same issue on an LG g4, My fiance has the issue on her S6, and my bro has the issue on his S6e. Like stated above the only fix is if you uninstall updates but for someone with an android wear watch I don't want to do that. It is quite upsetting. Hoping 5.0 that is rumored to release today will fix the issue.
I have the issue with both SMS and hangouts in the Hangouts app so it is not a server side issue.

I'll give that a try because that lag is super freaking annoying!

Not getting Hangouts notifications after Nougat update

Hello All,
I decided to flash the 7.0 factory image last night and everything seems to going very smoothly except I do not get any notifications from Hangouts unless I actually go into the app. I did go in to and disable the battery optimization on it however they are still not coming through. Is this an issue anyone is having? I can't think of anything else I could do so I'm wondering if maybe this is a bug.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I've had this problem many times with Hangouts over the years and I know people who have stopped using it due to this issue.
I was having this issue with all my chat notifications (internet based chat), flashed a custom ROM and it seems to be working better.
I am not sure how to fix it, a factory reset is all I can suggest.
I'm a big Hangouts user (with my Google Voice number), and I'm getting notifications as normal under Nougat. I get a drop-down that lets me reply when a message comes in, which quickly scrolls back up and is replaced by the normal hangouts notification icon. I did a straight OTA upgrade to 7 from 6.
Just saw this post and wanted to know if anyone came up with a solution for this problem.

SMS notifications stopped working after Android 7 update

Hi folks.
Last week I received an update from HTC to update my One M9 to Android 7. All went well with one exception: Since the update I no longer receive notifications off new SMS messages. They arrive (and send) fine, just no tone, vibes, or system tray (for want of a better description) alerts. The only way to know if I have a new message is to go into messages and have a look (a real pain). My assumption was a setting had somehow changed during the update so checked them.
There are 2 lots of settings for SMS notifications that I can see, one in the general settings (Settings-Apps-Notifications) which seems to be all as it should be, and a second lot accessible within the app itself (Settings-Notifications) where I think the problem may be. When I try to click the Notifications link the app immediately stops working with the message "Messages has stopped unexpectedly" and an offer of sending an error report. This error report is very long with all the details of my phone, hardware and software, but no other info beyond 'package com.htc.sense.mms has crashed'.
I have rebooted the phone a couple of times since the update but that did not help (although it did revive the playstore app which was also poorly after the update), and disabled 'Hangouts' as I read elsewhere this can sometimes be an issue but that did not help either. I have also tried all of the above in safe mode but the problem is still there.
Anybody have any ideas please? Many thanks in advance.

Carrier Services Latest update Bug

It looks like that the latest update on the Carrier Services app ( 15.0.209499685_V15z_RC15) completely broke rcs messages on android messages app through my carrier (Vodafone Gr).
I don't know if it's a Nokia issue, a Google issue or a Vodafone issue.
The only thing i know is that when i disable the latest update, rcs messages work like a charm. When i install the update back rcs messages break and only sms are available.
Proof.

Problem Sending WhatsApp Messages after Pie update

I have a T-Mobile Note 9 and recently updated to pie with the official OTA file. Ever since I've updated, all my messages don't send right away. On regular text messaging, I've been getting texts hours late and sometimes my messages are being delivered late (even though on my end it's sent). Especially on group texting. It's happening on Telegram also, where my messages don't seem to go through and I have to force close the application and open it again. But the worst problem is with the WhatsApp messages. 50% of the time, I will send a message and it just shows one tick mark (not delivered). And I've tested this with many contacts, even another phone I have at home. Eventually after a while, the messages will show two ticks. Usually , if I initiate a WhatsApp call then the messages will change to two tick marks right away.
Has anyone else had problems with sending messages after the pie update? I think it's weird that it's happening across apps.
Thank you in advance!
