Contactless payments Mastercard/VISA on P40 Pro - Huawei Mate 40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi experts, i'm a new owner to a p40 pro which i like very much.
I wanted to have some tips if I there's any work around for contactless payment? I live in Singapore.
I understand there's a ban in place and GPay does not work, and when I check Wallet in the phone, it does not support VISA/MASTERCARD it seems, only Chinese and Russian banks.
However, is there any other app that can be used for NFC payments in fair price and other common pay wave shops?
Appreciate any tips. thx!

it's useless for me in Russia however... only 3 not popular banks and only UnionPay cards... so, i'm using Garmin Pay now, with my Garmin watches )) a lot of banks, both Visa and Mastercard

With google services installed my ING banking app works and is able to make contactless payments. By contrast another bank (BT) that has it's app on the huawei store is not working , the app won't even start.

@olaf2k4: BT Pay work great in my phone (I see that topic is for P40 pro - I was confused, here is Mate40 pro area)
Check softpedia forum, on dedicated topic.
With GMS installed, you should be able to use BT Pay without problems on P40 pro. But not on Mate40 pro too ...

[Q] Contactless Payments on the HTC One...

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 looming it looks like that Samsung have teamed up with Visa to include Paywave on the device for making secure contactless payments. I know the One has NFC but will there any solution available for making contactless payments?
Visa and Mastercard want as many users as possible, so I can guarantee you that the One will get this too .. some day atleast
And there already is a nice app directly from google

Unfortunately Google Wallet is only available in the US
For now that is the case, but I hope that that will change soon
Plus:
This app is not compatible with your HTC One.

Why does Samsung Pay only work with certain banks?

With all the news about Samsung Pay at the moment, it's interesting to note that the Samsung Pay Beta page says you have to have a card from Bank of America, or another specific bank, in order to be able to use SP. What I don't get is, why does it only work with certain banks? Samsung confirmed they've partnered with Visa and MasterCard, so why wouldn't a Wells Fargo Visa, for example, work? What is it about the fact that a Visa debit card is issued by X bank vs Y bank that makes it incompatible? From the beta testers who have reported about how Samsung Pay works, you just scan the card, enter the relevant details, and *boom*, Samsung Pay is ready to work its magic.
Any thoughts/explanations?
**I'll also note that something else that confused me about the media's reporting of Samsung Pay was that, up until a few weeks ago, almost all the media was saying "Will SP be able to beat Apple Pay?" or "Will Samsung Pay catch on?" I felt like I was the only one who had actually watched the Samsung keynote and heard the part about "Samsung Pay will be backwards compatible with existing checkout stands via magnetic technology," and thus I wasn't in the least bit worried about "whether Samsung Pay will actually work." So, part of me wants to just chalk up the statement that it only works with certain banks to technological more misunderstanding on the part of the media…except for the fact that Samsung themselves said it.
I think it is just the beta that is limited by a certain bank. If not, this whole thing will be DOA.

Ordered my 6GB/128GB...

After much deliberation - I've ordered my Mate 10 6GB/128GB. (5th Nov)
I hesitated as it's a lot of money - but I've ordered it from Giztop where it was £615+£22 DHL. However, if you signup to their newsletter, you get a discount code of 2%. So full price with postage is £624.99 or $842.41 (although Google tells me this is more like £643)
Giztop don't rebrand, but they appear to install Google services.
Should I want to rebrand - and I probably will, getting the bootloader code from Huawei looks fairly straightforward and then I can use FunkyHuawei's method to rebrand to Asia as I have a couple credits to use.
I'll update when I get the tracking number and when the phone hits my hands. Plus if I encounter any f**king import fees, but Giztop state they declare low value to avoid this.

You used Giztop before? How do you rate them? Are they like Amazon and aliexpress? I might get the pro too as its better on battery it seems. Have the one you're getting already. Bought from wonda mobile. Next day delivered from Hong Kong! Next.... Day!

Never used Giztop before. Someone else here did and got no issues. Paid via Paypal for the protection offered. They're not like Amazon or Aliexpress. More like Wonda. But they were significantly cheaper than Wonda.
I'm not interested in the Pro as it doesn't have the 2K screen which I like to use with Daydream.
I received a tracking number this morning. So that's less than a couple days.
I just ordered the pro blue 6gb/128gb from giztop on Friday. I'm not expecting to get it for a couple of weeks seeing how it's not out yet even though they emailed me stating they might send it this week and their website states it is in stock which is the reason I originally bought from them.
does anyone know, is it possible to buy ALP-AL100 Mate 10 6/128 in Taiwan? in offline shop
or does not make sense inasmuch as online with global shipping will be cheaper anyway?
Right, so I have the Mate 10 in my hands and have had for about 14 hours.
Phone ordered 5th Nov and I had TNT tracking on the 7th. Phone arrived on 10th in the UK. Giztop marked it as worth $58. So no customs charges.
Big surprise? Already running L29 C636!!
Checked for update and got 115 straight away OTA.
So impressed with Giztop there. I was dubious after a couple poor reviews I found and what seemed to be no response to emails. Then they did.
You get the same package as Wonda, but for cheaper
Comes with a well fitted gel case. Mate 9 Pro came with an ill fitting plastic one that allowed grit inside and scratched the back of it
As for the Mate 10. Nice bit of kit. Not sure the screen is as nice as my Mate 9 Pro. Still finding my way around Emui 8, which is a little different to 5. My Tesco banking app doesn't work. Tells me not compatible with this device.
Mate 9 Pro also had the ability to turn on a general dark theme in battery settings. Not available here, maybe only Pro models.
No separate SD card holder. Dual SIM or single and SD card.
Can't get the single home button navigation to work very well, so using on screen buttons, which, for a screen this size, doesn't matter
No crashing, very stable.
Not tried the cameras yet, but they're virtually the same as Mate 9 Pro anyway.
Will be interested to link to a monitor.

Surprised about the single home button not working so well for you. Others have mentioned it as a key difference between the pro and non-pro version. Franky it was one of the big reasons why I was leaning towards the non pro version.
What's been the problem for you?
Thanks.
Great that they rebranded yours. Mine came in with 00 with GP installed. Took a bit to hide all the Chinese stuff. IMO desktop mode is pretty good. Not I7 gtx 970 good but beats the hell out of Dex. I'm still on 113 and reception is a little weak. If no update in a month will see Funky. How are you liking yours so far? That K970 pretty fast isn't it.

Yes in the UK.
Build:
ALP-L29 8.0.0.115 (C636)
I was expecting it to be rebranded. Out of the box it was running 103, I checked for updates and it went to 115. Not sure if 118 is the latest to install? (What firmware finder says...but it's only looking for ALP.

Question CN/Global help (huawei user here)

Hi guys. Looking at finally retiring my trusty and rather awesome P20. Sadly cant go p40 etc due to banking app issues (barclays) andd im really keen on the mi 11 (any users who had both, feedbak be great too)
Obviously the UK date seems to be better guarded secret than the queens PIN code. And i can only find one source for a claimed "mi 11 global version" (buycheapphones) however the site looks sketchy, whois lookup is private and very limited feedback available online. So, my question is, being the impatient sod i am, apart from masses of bloat which id be removing or disabling anyway, would i face any issues with a CN variant (eg from wonda) in the uk vs global? i CANT unlock bootloader and reboot with xiaomi.eu for the same above reason, Barclays are a royal pain with bootloaders and root etc. So i just want out of the box will work with all GAPPS (not fussed on google pay as never used it,this seems to be an issue for some)
Im able to sideload if some apps are missing from playstore as long as they function properly.
Or am i going to be better off sitting bored waiting for the UK release and coughing up the extra dough?
For out of box support for GApps and Safetynet, you need to wait for global.

Damn..... That simple. That sucks, especially with no idea when they could be available. Not trysting that site, under £650for a phone no one else seems to have is just fishy
For what it's worth. I bought mine 2 weeks ago from Giztop as I knew quite a few people who has done so and advised it was ok. . Paid for express shipping and it arrived within 7 days and no extra charges. I bought the special edition one
I've got all the GAPPs and google pay works netflix etc.
Safety net and google pay work both on original cn and eu roms.
I was just looking at giztop today and noticed they're offering the global version now for about 580. Was about to order and read at the bottom pre order but marked in stock so currently waiting for a response.
As I say, I'm not fussed on Google pay just full use without having to unlock/root and upset barclays app.
Just wondered if there are many drawbacks to the Chinese version eg future resell value, unwanted notifications or annoyances eg default apps, any features missing that global version has.
I know myself well, the bee was officially in my bonnet.
Giz replied saying in stock and will despatch from Europe warehouse so no import duty (we shall see) but pulled the trigger on a global spec one
Thankfully I'm use to Huawei so I'm prepared for settings fiddling to get things just right. Praying some power fiddling will get me some decent life out of it
Hopefully it's actually global mate! Would recommend doing further research into CN smartphones before buying one intended for the Mainland market. They can be tons of fun but worth knowing what you're getting into upfront.
Phones from the other side of the great firewall = No GApps, no safetynet, and your mileage may vary on whether there is a GMS stub in the filesystem that will allow the Play Store and Google services to work properly with system permissions. Your only options with a Xiaomi CN model are to unlock the bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu (which passes safetynet), or unlock the bootloader, install MIUI global/EEA, and use Magisk to hide root from your banking app. To be fair, both of those are debatably much easier than installing GMS on a P40.
The CN software is not really a good time for most global users. You can disable a variety of the preloaded apps and services, but there's a lot of bloat and many parts won't be relevant or translated. MIUI CN actually has more features than global. xiaomi.eu = CN software debloated and rebuilt with more languages and features for global use.
If it's actually a global Mi 11 you'll be good to go out of the box. It has just launched in HK this week so you may be in luck.

Only bought as they confirmed in writing its global and they're the second one to list it now so assume they are becoming available. I'm no stranger to rooting roms and general tinkering but quite happy just debloating and customising stock now to maintain functionality.
They also said it'll ship from EU not China and no import duty so if they keep to their word its cost me barely 600 so from what I can tell, at least £60+ saving.
Really fancied the 10 ultra but no band 20 put me off. Hadn't realised the proper pro was the same, the 10t models don't tickle me at all.
Hopefully it'll be here next few days and I an begin debloating, de-prc-ing and then get to using it

Still processing. It said mid March before I bought this is why I Contacted them but so far it's seeming more likely they were dishonest on the status of their stock aswell as country of origin. If I get the phone next week I'll be happy but still sour grapes. Even more so if I end up with £100 customs on top or it launches in UK before I get it haha
So as a little update to the giztop saga
Confirmed in stock first
Ordered 8th march
Multiple emails later finay got a tracking number 15th march.. .. Thats a whole week
Tracking number wasn't even working until friday 19th which finally showed the phone was in Netherlands "waiting to be forwarded" so we are looking at 3 weeks (15 working days) for an express delivery that was quoted as 5-8 days. And that's just at a guess. All to possibly save £200 IF or doesn't get spotted checked at customs, as it launches in UK tomorrow typical

Question Samsung Bloat Ware

if your bootloader is unlocked (not the same as phone being carrier unlocked) you can root it and remove bloatware. there's also an option by adb (and a tool with a gui exists. can't think of the name of it) to disable some bloatware. aosp roms don't exist on this phone yet so no stock/vanilla android yet
So, yea, it will be carrier unlocked. I guess I haven't looked into what it takes to unlock the bootloader.
I use Package Disabler to disable anything I chose. Bonus being I can toggle them on or off easily including Goggle Play Services.
Package Disabler from apkpure? There seem to be two;
Service Disabler for Android - APK Download
Download Service Disabler apk 1.0.9 for Android. Disable, Freeze & Uninstall unwanted Service or Package on Android (Need Root)
apkpure.com
and
Package Disabler for Android - APK Download
Download Package Disabler apk 5.1 for Android. ORIGINAL ***One click enable/disable any package/application – no root required
apkpure.com

No root needed. No Playstore to screw it up.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.

Karma Firewall (Playstore) is the other app I use to lock down Samsung. Freeware, no ads, extremely low battery usage. Unfortunately it's logging feature doesn't work on Q and above I believe... I'm running Pie. There may be a work around with adb, don't know.
Package disabler pro works great however payment for it is very sketchy...
I originally bought it from the play store and it warmed that if Samsung broke the app I would have to buy it again unless I bought it on the website.
So after I lost access I bought it on the website and it CLEARLY stated doing so would mean free lifetime updates when Samsung breaks the app. So the play store version is a 1 time deal and the website version was slightly more expensive but a lifetime license.
Fast forward a few months and Samsung had broken the app so I went to the website to get the update and I couldn't. I talked to the dev and he sent me a version that worked.
A few weeks later a login section was added to the site. I couldn't login, sign up or use password reset... So I emailed the dev again and that's when the problems began.
Suddenly my "lifetime" license was a 1 year license. Now call me crazy but if you sell a lifetime license but then later change how you sell licenses you should honor the agreement for existing users.
They didn't honor it and I had to buy the app for a 3rd time and it was again more expensive and now the license was only for a year.
So... Be careful when buying package disabler pro. The dev seems to like to change the rules on you which always means you paying...again.
I thought the play store vs website model was a great idea. Most people would buy via the play store so revenue should be ok. Screwing over your most loyal customers..the website ones is a jerk move. If they grandfathered only people who complained about the lifetime license actually being a yearly license that would probably have worked in their favor as most people either wouldn't care, or wouldn't remember it being lifetime.

I rarely boot up my laptop. A self contained Android app is much easier, more flexible and great for troubleshooting anywhere.
PD MDM has given me almost zero issues. It can be firewall blocked once activated.

I got nearly 2 years of use out of the first play store purchase which was like $4.
The thing is... When Samsung "breaks" the app with an update I don't think it takes much effort from him to fix it. Especially since I've seen it fixed in under 24 hours and I assume he slept for some of that time lol plus it probably took some time to find out it was not working.
I have no problem with someone wanting to make money, especially if they are making something that's useful and the app is definitely useful.
My problem is the whole lifetime license that suddenly is only a year long license. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. It's certainly deceptive and false advertising.
I haven't really looked into it but if there was another app that was priced reasonable I'd switch.

I've had experience with a few lifetime licences and the one thing I learnt is that legally "lifetime" can mean anything. They can end a lifetime licence based on a version number change, the licence is for the lifetime of the version you bought for example.
