How can I keep my T-Mobile V40 on Android 9? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Okay, so Android 10 comes out and completely destroys my phone. I purposely got an audiophile LG phone...only to have forced Android 10 neuter some of that prowess. In addition I think I have a corrupt build and I've had all sorts of problems with it from Battery to reception.
Needless to say, TM is replacing the phone which should be back on Android 9 when I get it. Does anybody in this group know how I can KEEP it there and prevent a force carrier update? Obviously can't root a carrier-branded phone...so i plan to login as safe mode without SIM to get to developers options....
Will simply setting "no updates" there prevent this from happening? Somehow I doubt it's that easy....

Of course the new T-Mobile phone comes in and it's already on Android 10. So I searched again and finally find an unlocked "TA" model still on 9. In fact it may be the first V40 phone ever made judging by the security date
Before I set it up on the wireless or especially put in the SIM, I "disabled update" in developers options...so now I have to figure out how to update the security side of it without updating operating system side of it!
At least I finally found one on 9 cuz that was quite a search these days.

screen lock

I know there are a couple screen lock's on the market place but they are junk from what I read and can be bypassed by just restarting the phone. Is there a way to password your screen other then the pattern lock. I would like to use an actual password. Would it be possible to come up with something with a rooted phone?
You can achieve that with PocketShield 3.3 (currently beta) by setting the following options:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Edit: Sorry, wrong forum. This is for Windows Mobile only.
Although this method can still be circumvented because the phone will be unlocked momentarily before the security app loads... perhaps difficult to circumvent but possible nevertheless.
It does depend on what you want to secure... setting a SIM PIN may meet your needs and is surely more secure (on the radio side of the game) than any app you can download.
Perhaps the combination of the two would provide the security you need?
Keep in mind, if you use an app this will not prevent somebody booting into recovery and taking all of your data. A SIM PIN won't prevent this either but at least your SIM data and your radio (carrier) connection will always be safe. If they take your data then they can log on as you. Take care to secure your nandroid backups too!

[Q]pil-modem_fw: why won't it leave me alone?

I started noticing extreme battery drain around the time I began fooling around with the lollipop rom builds that began popping up in the forums last month, so I started trying to look into it. This is what I found: (this isn't a good example because of a short timeframe, but at times it's been up to 30k wakelocks over 6 hours)

I've tried searching Google and of the 2 posts that even come close, I can't make sense of it.
My phone is currently disconnected and has been for some time, so I can't tell if it's searching for service, even though I keep it in airplane mode, with Wi-Fi on only when I need it, turned off background data, even froze the phone app. Still no luck. Same thing when I switched back to cm11.
Is there anyone or there who knows what this is about and what I can do about it?
***ANY and ALL info is GREATLY appreciated***

If you flash the stock 4.4.4 firmware for your device with fastboot/mfastboot it will likely be fixed.
Why you're getting this.... I don't know. Can't find anything on it either.

Why Bootloader screen is appearing default on my Nexus 6?

Okay I'll be as specific as I can:
So I'd bought this phone just 5-6 days back, it had a weird problem that it never used to provide any software update. I mean it came 5.0 out-of-box but never even provided 5.1, forget 6.0 on which the world is on right now. I'd asked about this problem on XDA before but nothing helped, so finally i went to service centre. Now idk what magic they did, they took it and first said they'll check, then they'll format and try update, finally they gave me 6.0 on it. Now ofcourse i was satisified, but now when i turn my phone off i directly get a bootloader screen like this (image)
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
. Now a normal proper android doesn't open such screen, atleast my Nexus 5 doesn't? Then after getting 6.0 and whenever i turn my phone off and on back, first bootloader screen comes.
Can this cause any problem?
How exactly did they update my phone then as my OTA wasn't working?
How can i turn this off and directly turn my phone off & on without intercepting this bootloader screen.
(please read image contents and tell if there's any problem)
Thanks in advance, and also please don't tell why i din't ask the service centre, indian service centres are too worst . please help as i won't like to visit them again!

No internet banking

Hi. After an upgrade to emui 9.0 and Android pie 9.0 everything was pretty darn smooth.
That is, until, my bank updates their app. Then this:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
However, this Phone is clean. As you know you must have the damn bootloader code from Huawei to modify this thing, I never got that far, so I could never do anything to the Phone.
The old app works just fine, and due to my work i have an app for atleast 7 other Banks as well, so im assuming this bank (my primary bank) has done a boo boo and ****ed up their root check somehow.
The bank of course doesnt believe me.
My question is: What could possibly give this app a false positive root check? Do you guys know about any settings that might trigger it?
Im hoping I dont have to factory reset this thing.

Can I switch from Huawei P20 Pro standaard 'rom' to a OnePlus 3T Rom?

Hello,
I'm pretty unknowing to this custom stuff, I tried it once long ago with my HTC HD2 but quickly stopped due to it's technical nature (and I am far from technical).
I just recently bought this phone because my OnePlus 3T died, but Im having so much annoying little UX problems I'm wondering if it's possible to switch out this UI (ROM?) to my old one, and if possible, would it slow down this phone or would it not matter?
As example I keep pressing the wrong (delete) button because the Home Button and Delete buttons are so close together (who thought of this?!?!) and I have multiple other issues with the App Switch functionality, so much that I'm wondering if it's possible to switch them out as I've said above.

This type of UX breaks my heart :-(
so summarizing:
1. Is it possible to switch to the OnePLus 3T Rom
1.1 How do I figure out what ROM the OnePlus 3T has?
2. Is it hard? (as in, can newbs like me do it without breaking everything)
3. can I backup the current rom so if/when I break something I do not have to fully reinstall my phone (i finally got it all set up after a day of fiddling with Nova Launcher <- good app!)
