Can't Add Device to Google Home - Google Home

Greetings,
I made my own Google Assistant smart speaker by connecting a BT Speaker/Mic to my old Moto X4. It works just fine as a stand alone, but I'd like it to be integrated into my Google home. I've tried various approaches to adding it; as a new device under several guises (speaker, display, etc.) and as a "works with Google" device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

[Q] Moto X, Touchless Control, and UCOnnect hands-free.

So, this may have been brought up already, I did try to search, but didnt come up with much.
So, i bought a Moto X, even after hearing the lenovo/google news. I figure that they cant ruin the device quickly enough to justify second-guessing my long and painstaking decision process.
Anyway, touchless control is pretty awesome. Ive been tinkering with it since i got it. I'm a long time android user, and have been using google now for some time. The problem is this.
I drive a 2013 Jeep, with a UConnect bluetooth hands-free system. It works for what its supposed to work for, i can make calls, stream audio, all is well. In fact its working better than it did on my old GNex. However, once I connect my motox to UConnect (that is, i get in, turn on the Jeep, and bluetooth associates), touchless control becomes unresponsive. In fact, it seems that even if i try to manually initiate a voice search, google now cant hear me. I can use the voice input for the keyboard, just not voice commands. It's almost like as soon as i'm paired to a bluetooth input, google now voice input/touchless control get turned off. Which to me seems odd.
I tried looking around in my settings, i cant seem to find a setting that tells the phone to do this. It just doesnt work.
Also, if i turn off bluetooth while the Jeep is still running, touchless/voice input starts working again.
I havent tried pairing it to another bluetooth headset to see if it does it then too, i'll update this thread once i've had a chance to try that.
Is this something others are experiencing? Is it supposed to do this for some safety feature, and I dont know it?
Thanks!
I don't have a vehicle with bluetooth, you may have better luck posting your question in the "Question and Answer" area.

Good luck with finding a fix!
Apparently the various signs and warnings telling me to post questions in the q&a section dont apply to me.
Thanks, I'll post over there.
Mods, feel free to lock/delete/destroy with fire this thread.

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S4 Active - Bluetooth device kills audio during phone calls

Hello everyone! I have been trying to track down a problem with my Galaxy S4 Active that has been driving me nuts for a while. I figured that making a new thread would probably be best because I did not find my particular issue listed.
Basically, what happens is that I will make a call over Bluetooth and everything will be fine. Once this call has ended, all audio related to phone calls dies. The phone still behaves as if it is making and receiving calls, but nobody can hear me and I cannot hear them. Not over Bluetooth, through the earpiece, nor over the loudspeaker. It’s all dead. I also cannot hear it ringing if I dial out, but the phone itself still rings.
I have tried turning the Bluetooth device on and off, disabling Bluetooth and turning it back on, going into Airplane mode and back out again, turning speakerphone on and off, muting and unmuting the call, and muting and unmuting the phone itself. The only thing that fixes this situation is restarting the phone.
I recall this situation first started presenting itself after updating to the ML2 firmware, but it didn’t happen all the time. It became much more apparent after updating to the NE3 firmware. At that point I spent some more time looking into it and became able to readily duplicate the issue.
I have gone so far as to reflash the NE3 firmware with Odin 3.07 to see if the issue remained. Interestingly enough, this appeared to correct the issue until I started updating and reinstalling a few apps. So now I’m trying to track down exactly what did it.
I suspect that it may be the “OK Google” hotword scanning from Google Search because I had it set to detect “From any screen” as well as “From lock screen”. Although I did not have the “Bluetooth headset” setting enabled because I wanted to take that out of the equation. Once I turned off “From any screen”, the Bluetooth appears to be working normally.
Another possibility is that I had frozen S-Voice because it got in the way of the normal voice dialer. This has been restored. I also have to mention that the voice dialer appears to be more stable after disabling “From any screen” as well.
I also can’t say for sure, but it also seems to happen more frequently when charging. Although that may just be a coincidence as I normally do charge my phone when I connect it to Bluetooth. Also I have duplicated the issue when not charging and gotten it to work fine while on the charger. So it is probably just a coincidence.
Here is what I’m working with:
AT&T Galaxy S4 Active (SGH-i537) reflashed back to I537UCUCNE3 Android 4.4.2 stock firmware.
Jabra SP700 - Main device I’m testing with. Old Bluetooth 1.1 speakerphone that clips on a visor. Supports A2DP for an FM transmitter to stream music, but I have Media disabled on it. I tested with and without this setting and it made no difference. It worked great back when I was on MF3, but started having problems since I upgraded to ML2 that are easily replicated now on NE3.
Jabra BT620s - Secondary device that I tested with that also demonstrated the same problems. Although I haven’t tested as much as the SP700. This is a pair of stereo headphones that uses Bluetooth 1.2 and A2DP for streaming music. Also worked better with older firmwares, but I haven’t used it much lately save for testing this problem.

I also tested it quite a bit right before and after rooting it and it was working fine at the time, so I don’t believe that it’s related to root.
I would like to know if anyone else has encountered similar issues or can duplicate what I’m seeing?
Thanks!
After spending some more time testing it, I can verify that it IS in fact the “OK Google” hotword scanning from Google Search 3.6.14.1337016.arm. When it is set to detect “From any screen” and well as “From lock screen”, the audio will die after the first call over Bluetooth. Once I turned off “From any screen”, the Bluetooth works normally.
Now that I've finally found it and can easily replicate it, I'm still curious if other people can replicate it or if this is something isolated to my phone and/or Bluetooth devices. Would anyone be interested in testing this with me?
I'm planning on writing up some feedback on it once I have a better idea of how big an issue it is. I think it would also help anyone else that runs into this problem. I've been fighting with this off and on for over a month because it seemed so random.
Thanks.
I am having the exact same issue with the 2 s4's that I own. I suspected it was either svoice or Ok google, I will try to turn off the from any screen setting and see if it fixes the issue on mine as well. That is a shame because I really like using the ok google feature from any screen.
I've been having the same issue, but did not realize it was ok google from any screen. I've turned it off now, let's see if it works. Thanks for the heads up.
It looks like a recent Google Search update re-enabled the "From any screen" OK Google hotword detection setting. This still is not fixed and it killed all call audio while I was trying to lead another vehicle. I didn't find out until I parked that it was turned back on.
I have sent feedback to Google on the Search app and recommend that everyone else who has had this problem do the same. If this continues to happen, I will resort to negative reviews if I must. Please help get the word out if you are having the same issue. Thanks!
EDIT:
There are apparently several other people having the same problem on other Samsung devices (particularly Galaxy S4's):

[Q] Moto Voice activating when connecting to car Bluetooth (Turbo)

Anyone else experience this? I have a 2011 VW GTI and everytime I start my car, the phone connects to Bluetooth without issue but the blue Moto Voice screen pops up as if I said my catch phrase to activate it, but I didnt. Very odd. I have tried toggling Moto Voice in accessibility options with no luck. I did a search here and over at the OTHER forum with no luck. Disabling Moto Voice altogether I guess is a fix, but I actually use it so I don't exactly want to do that.

Check the settings on your stereo. I've seen aftermarket stereos that have an option for something like that so there's no reason a stock stereo couldn't. It is usually in the voice command settings. You could also try turning all of the settings off in Moto Connect>Settings>Assist>Driving
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I was having this issue in my Elantra, though it wasn't always as soon as bluetooth connected. The Moto Voice screen would also pop up randomly while I was driving. I think it might have been related to picking up sounds from the stereo, even though the music sounded nothing like the phrase. I ended up having to switch it off because it was getting so annoying. I have changed my phrase to see if that helps, I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
I was having the same issue. Moto voice would activate as soon as my car connected. I simply disabled moto voice since I don't use it all that much. Still wish there was a fix for it.
Me three: random Moto Voice activations when connected to my 2011 Toyota Sienna Bluetooth. Did not find a solution & turned Moto Voice off.

Super assistant Cast.. All in 1 google asst & chromecast, using old droid 5 phone

I started a project to use my old galaxy S4 as a Google assistant and a chromecast all at once. I have the google assistant part working and the casting apps installed. Its just down to fine tuning now and getting both to work correctly. This project originally started with just using the phone as a google assistant and then I thought why not add chromecast. The S4 supports MHL so I figured ill get a dock and go from there (the dock has yet to arrive).
Here is my setup for all those who wish to follow, help or provide input.
-Galaxy S4 rooted with stang5litre Ediition 5.0 rom.
-Installed google assistant via google assistant launcher here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-assistant-launcher-google-t3614804
NOTE: The above app may not be needed cuz my limitation was getting an updated google to install on android 5, I got the assistant app fine. Your results may vary. I got updated google search via apk and was off and running.
Once I got the assistant installed I paired it with a bluetooth speaker and had 2 issues.
1. Bluetooth not staying connected & audio not coming through the speaker. It was just a matter of finding the right speaker and then playing with it.
2. I also had the screen off issue where assistant would not respond and had to get daydream to work. I also tried this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934495
The problem with screen standby is it wont respond to assistant calls when it triggers, but I might need to go back to it when the doc arrives. The daydream screensaver I have now is clock plus which has a dim to nearly dark features. So that works for assistant to stay active.
-Chromecast ability: I installed 2 apps for chromecast like affect. 1. Airpin (airplay) and 2. allcast receiver. I tried airscreen but that dev wants to much money for such a simple app. Now I know neither of these offer true chromecast support and airscreen is the only 1 that does offer the real deal (it even shows up in the google home app, impressive).
-My next step is to see if I can cast to the device and keep assistant around in the background. I know this will be the most challenging part because of the following:
1. Audio to both bluetooth and TV speakers or maybe I can use a wired speaker for when the TV is off. I'd like to be able to do this all without getting up to fix anything. Will see.
2. Google assistant popping up in front off chromecast app, I'm not sure if I can somehow address this and ask assistant to bring app to front. Maybe impossible and Ill have to use a bluetooth remote.
Input thoughts on this project?
I guess no one cares about this, the state of device obsolescence is so high that a new device is what everyone wants instead of looking for fixes and uses for old devices. Everyone rather move on and move up to something new, easier & better. XDA used to be full of mods, hacks and tricks to use old tech, NO MORE! Everyone seems to be falling for big tech BIG deception. Is it really this bad? Are we all just going to stab mother nature in the back just because we rather have something new, & throw away something old?
Enough of the rant: I got this working and its better then I could imagine. The unitek smart phone dock is great for the S4. Google assistant works via the hacks and keeps connected to my bluetooth speaker despite the tv turning on. The logitech keyboard also works via OTG perfectly. So I can keep assistant working and all I need to do is run allcast or airpin and the audio will continue through bluetooth up until I turn bluetooth off. I like that cuz all I need to do is disconnect bluetooth and TV (hdmi) takes over audio. One thing I noticed is that airpin will not work but allcast does fine, ill have to figure out why airplay does not work but I do know the difference between allcast and airpin is that chromecast is a handoff and airplay is not, so it could just need an update. I could also easily turn this into a android tv with a launcher swap and a few tv apps, but for now I prefer chromecast type device.
The best thing about this is that once I'm done using the cast features I can go right back to it being a google assistant without skipping a beat which I was concerned would cause some kinda hickup with the daydream screen function & MHL. I figured I might need something like screen standby (see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934495) but I actually did not, which is a big surprise. The screen just goes off when MHL is used and back on (including daydream function) when tv turns off.
Anyway that's a wrap on this project 100% success. If anyone has any questions let me know I'll try to help.
No one interested.. YIKES..
This sounds interesting but if I need an additional accessory, its not really worth it cuz a chromecast literally costs 35 bucks.

Also, this looks interesting.

If we can port that over to our device, then we can assign google assistant to the bluetooth speaker and every other sound should come out from the tv.
Google home app
Yes, Airscreen is the real deal and the only store app I've found that actually does work with Google on my old s5 android to stream from new note9 android. so I bought the cheap premium monthly subscription. However I can't get it to show in the home app, just in Google play and YouTube.

Fire tablet 10 11th generation no voice dictation

Hello I have a couple fire 10 11th generation tablets on one of them I've lost the ability for voice dictation. Voice dictation is actually greyed out in the Amazon settings for the built-in Amazon keyboard. So there is no microphone available for that keyboard. I have Google Play services installed and even with the gboard it does not work the microphone is present but when pressing it it doesn't turn blue and activate. It also does not have the microphone icon in the top right hand corner always on like in the another 11th gen I have. On the tablet with the microphone icon always present in the top right hand corner the microphone works in gboard and will do voice dictation.
I've installed Google voice search and I'm able to use the microphone to search on Chrome but the microphone still does not work in gboard. That's the most important.
I've also tried Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard I can get the microphone to come on it acts like it's listening but it will not text.
I've been trying to set these up to give them away to some family members but I like to at least that function to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I use fire toolbox v30.3 and I've tried a lot of trouble shooting turning on permissions for the microphone trying google Assistant. Factory resetting and trying again, several times. I received this tablet already updated.
Thanks
They block voice dictation until after you register the device. Since I was not registering them on amazon, they greyed out voice dictation. A thought is that they are recording you, you are agreeing to it when you register and they turn it on.
Did you solve the problem? I have an HD8 2022 and I have this problem with the microphone too, the tablet is already registered, but even so, the microphone does not work on YouTube.

Make sure the Amazon offers it for that particular tablet. Ironically they only allow voice dictation on certain tablets, yours may or may not be one of them. Call Amazon and ask for help. They were the first to tell me to register them. Apparently I wasn't the first to call in and complain about it. I sent those tablets off to family I'm not sure if they're still working right or not. I have decided to leave Amazon's fire OS all together.
I am going to get true Android from now on and replace all the Amazon devices I have given to my family over the years. I have started with the fire sticks I'm replacing them with Walmart's brand new new $19.99 Onn 4K Android TV box. Unfortunately with the tablets it'll take me a little longer to acquire decent Samsungs for them. And if you purchased your tablet on Amazon be sure to review them poorly for them not allowing us to use Amazon devices the way we want to use them. I was liking the newest 10 inch until they decided that we were just renting the devices and change and break everything you set up through forced updates.
