Hi , my XZ2 is about one and a half years old. No problem whatsoever until this morning. I plugged in the charge cable, I got the message "charging" but it will not charge. I checked the cable and charging device (worked with another phone) so it is in the phone or in the connection. Cleaned connection (woorden tooth pick), nothing helped. Any suggestions? Battery level is now at 5 % so I can not do a lot anymore...
Have you tried different charging brick? You cleaned the port but I'd recommend using a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol to clean it from corrosion.
If it won't help that is probably the fault of charging port itself. I had issues with charging when it would randomly stop charging and replacing port itself worked and it isn't doing that anymore (I replaced it around 2 months ago).
Edit: Also try charging the phone when it is turned off.

Thanks, I tried, but the alcohol did not work either. (And yes, I tried different brick and cable and also with different phone). I will have battery replaced, I guess that helps. Thanks anyway.
Try doing a hard reboot then powering down the phone and see if that works.

I recommend getting charging port on aliexpress or ebay idk, it costs around 10-12$, I'm pretty sure changing the battery won't help much - considering it's not a motherboard fault. Also, update us if anything will change, I'm very curious
I will update yo uhere when I know more , thanks
I had the same issue, when I used Lineage OS 18. To solve it pressed up volume button and power button and waited until 3 vibrations.

A hard reboot?
I promised I would let you know... I changed my mind at a certain moment and decided to check if the defect was covered by the Sony-guarantee. It was. So I sent it in, and after two or three weeks I got it back. Entire new mother board. So I think this was a real physical defect which could not be solved by your kind suggestions [thanks].
quite similar to my case, though for me the cable actually melting and i can't charge it using normal usb c cable anymore
nowadays it's either via wireless, or via usb C to usb C → usb A adapter

Sounds like a known mobo power controller failure.
Press Sony for a free repair... lean on them hard if you must. Keep calling until someone there does the right thing.
If you're lucky the first call will get it.
Free repair, free replacement or a full refund check, don't settle for less!
Lol, I've played hardball with Sony and won*
*hammered a few people in the process, oops.

Yea, I switched to IodeOS based on lineageOS 17, until march update, i had no issues, so either I have very bad luck, or something is buggy in software.

Not software... firmware which is much worse.
Flash it back to see what's what.
When I have a stable OS that's doing what I want, I leave it be.

Yeah, i did it once, after i bricked it, but i see, i will have to do it second time. Or at least i need to install another ungoogled OS, not based on lineage.

Google is a menace, no doubt.
Currently I keep Google Play Services disabled most of the time.
Try charging it with the phone powered off and see if that helps.
Yes, it did help, but fastcharging seems to be disabled, when phone is powered off.

That's strange.
I don't think the firmware flashes the power controller chipset... or if it's flashable.
My 10+ fast charging is acting erratic. Tried everything except a factory reset. May be the battery... fun isn't it?
I wanted to boot TWRP and bricked phone while doing it. We will see if swiss firmware will change anything
Actually it's south american, but charging works without problem, as last time

Odd problem, and it seems to be somewhat common with no real "fix".
Bought my HTC One back in May and it has been flawless in every regard until recently. It no longer....charges. Clearly a defect with the phone, I'm just not sure if it is hardware or software related.
I plug the USB charger in (tried three different chargers) and nothing seems to work UNLESS the phone is completely powered off - then it will charge very, very slowly. My computer doesn't recognize a device when plugged into the USB port.
I'm a little dissatisfied with HTC at the moment. They issued an RMA but I have to do without a phone for over a week and they made absolutely no effort to speed up the process. Who knows how long the repair will take! They may make a better product than Apple/Samsung but their customer service is lightyears behind, sadly.
Is there any way to avoid this downtime? Any possible fixes?
I've tried...
1) Booting into safe-mode
2) Factory reset
3) 3 different chargers
Running Android 4.3 on Sprint.
I am encountering the same problem.
My phone will charge if I restart it and plug it into a wall-charger.
If I plug the phone into a PC, it fails to mount as a USB drive AND it fails to charge. After which it will no longer charge from a wall socket unless it has been rebooted.
I have tried a number of different cables, wall chargers, and computers.
I have tried resetting the phone to factory settings.
I have tried alternative ROMs in the hopes it would restore my USB functionality.
No luck.
Is it a hardware problem which requires servicing or is there a software fix to get the HTC One to show up as a USB drive again?

You might want to try to run HTC's Function Test which includes a battery and charger test - You may do so by dialing *#*#3424#*#* then selecting the Charger Test, followed by more then selecting the Battery test and finally run.

This is a cool trick! Thanks!
Charger came back as fine when charging from wall... but nothing when charging from PCs.
Also, their Charger test is really terrible. It basically says, "Plug in the charger. If the battery indicator says it is charging... then it is charging."
Yeah. I figured that much out on my own.
Looks like I need to hit the service center this weekend.
A question about service... This is my first Android phone. I've rooted it. Will this be a problem with the folks at the service center?

This just happened to me, and after some searching here and elsewhere I found that it seems to be an unsettlingly common issue. What was worse is the only solutions anyone had was RMA/replacement. Well, I called HTC customer service and the woman I spoke to was very helpful
She told me that the charging mode may need to be reset and gave the following instructions.
1. Turn phone OFF
2. Let charge for AT LEAST 10mins even if it doesn't look like it's charging (mine DID show the new charging animation)
3. Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN for AT LEAST 2mins. Anything less will not reset the charge mode.
4. After 2mins release the buttons and the phone should boot as normal.
My phone is now charging normally.

AT&T HTC One that was not charging here, verifying this fixed my problem. As I held down the buttons for 2 minutes the phone attempted to boot itself multiple times, for others trying this method: This is normal, just wait the full two minutes.
Hey guys I have started having this same problem and I think it may be due to the charger port having dirt / grease in it. Iplugmy cable in and no charge. Push the cable down towards back of phone and charges again. I am going to give it a clean later and see

Hello everyone.
I have a really big problem with my Xiaomi Mi3w (Cancro) and i haven’t find a solution in months.
I have an issue with the battery(?) or with the micro usb connector, sometimes i can’t charge my battery, no matter what or how, i can’t in any way.
When i connect the phone to the wall charger it doesnt charge or it even drains the battery, even if it’s off, it happened that some times when i connect the phone to the charger at 20+% battery after some hours it’s at 10%.
When the phone behaves like this and i try to connect it to the pc it can’t seem to hold the connection for more than 3-4 seconds, it continuosly connects and disconnects and it’s impossible even to open it in explorer. Obviously it’s impossible to charge even in this way.
At first i thought that it could only be a hardware problem (faulty connector/charger/cable etc)
but the last time i had this issue (today) i discovered that i can keep the connection between pc and the phone using fastboot. When i use fastboot the phone doesn’t disconnects continuosly so i can say that in 99% it’s not a connector/cable problem.
Could it be a kernel bug? I know that the kernel it’s active even when the phone is off but in charge, this could explain the charging problem even if it’s off.
Another thing that i discovered is that when the phone is on the connection to the pc gets more stable if i turn off debug mode ( can keep the usb connection on for more than 30 secs but i can’t seem to charge it anyway).
Things that i tried to solve the problem:
-Change the charger (1st charger is xiaomi’s orignal/ 2nd it’s a sony with output 5V/850 mah/ 3rd is a lg 4.8V/1A/ 4th is a generic tablet charger which came with my acer iconia with 5V/2A) none of these solved the problem.
-Change the cable (used 10 and more different cables, every cable was tested with my other devices and all were working well with my moto G and acer iconia)
-Fastboot install of both stable and developer rom
-Clean fastboot install of both roms (formatting both systems earlier with cwm)
-Install via cwm of ivan 4.4 aosp and cyano 12 (both of these uses the same leaked kernel right?)
-Cleaning connector with a neddle, soft cloth and some alcohol
I’m not sure about this other point but the phone seem to get in this not charging state when the battery gets below 30% and i keep it uncharged overnight.
So i thought that i could also be a problem related to the governor used by the phone when gets to a low battery profile and specifically when this governor tells the phone to get in deep sleep.
(this could perhaps explain the problem of both cyano and ivans roms random reboots and the workaround using partial_wake_lock)
I hope that someone can help me to solve this problem because my device is useless now
Thanks in advance to everyone
i have the same problem with my MI3W. Sometimes i can charge it while smartphone is power off.
I tried with another battery. I am waiting for a new usb connector flex to check too.
Do you find any solution?

I think i might be having the same problem. My phone started acting weird at the exact same condition. The charging connection kept going on and off. Felt like hardware issue at first. Charged my phone somehow to full charge and reset it. Looks good now but still skeptical.
Fingers crossed.

I get a similar issue since a month or two: with Xiaomi.eu weeklies, if I plug in charger before switching off the phone, it will get in a sort of bootloop state showing battery then mi logo on a loop. Charging is fine while phone is switched on, though.

I use to unplug the charger before switching off the phone and then plug it back.
One thing I noticed was the USB C collects a lot of dirt in it. Every couple of weeks, I use a pin to scrape the dirt out.
As it is quite a large opening, it collects dust and lint etc, then plugging in the charge cable compresses it.
Give it a go!
I had the same issue, I solved it by changing from Xiaomi EU ROM to LOS.

Hello,
I have problem with charging. The phone is charging very slowly or not at all. Sometimes I can pull out and plug in and then it starts to load (but slowly). I checked other chargers and cables. I wiped all and installed new roms and nothing changed. Yesterday I saw that phone is charging in TWRP (but not always). What could be the reason? Battery, usb port?
Thanks.
Turn it off and try to clean the USB port. Most of the times it's not damaged, just dirty as hell.
Use tootpicks or q-tips, blow it, whatever. Just try to get it clean.
I managed to buy a new bottom pcb with usb port on ebay for less than £10 when mine burnt out. Does the port smell of burning?

How long are you using your phone?
If it's more than a year and a half~, i would recommend you to buy a new battery.
A lot of people having battery related issues in the last few months including myself and for me replacing the battery did the trick.

Hi! This just happened to me as well after changing the battery to a new one (Nohon). It only charges in Fastboot or Recovery mode. Even after factory reset and rom reinstalled. Anyone found a solution for this?
Edit: it does charge in normal mode but on slow chargers, no qc3...
I had the same problem, I'm suspecting something in Lineage 15 or some new firmware was causing it.
Unfortunately after i roll back it did not solve the issue.
I have replaced battery but it does not solve the problem, QC adapters just do not work.
The odd thing is that a low quality cable on QC adapters or non QC adapters will have no problem.
And somehow trying to block off the data pin does not work as well.
I've rolled back to Lineage 14 but it sort of "fake" charge, percentage goes up really fast but in reality it barely charged.
EDIT: seems like some of the oreo firmware was causing it, i have downgraded back to 8.4.19 with lineage 14.1
Hi guys
I have this problem a few days , plug charger and very slow charging , sometimes stop charging ! Reset factory not changing (org miui my rom and 9.6.2 version)
I can downgrade to witch rom of android 7 without break of antirollback ?
1) Can't charge while it is in normal mode.
2) Can't charge with USB C to C
3) Can only charge using USB A to C, while the phone is turned off. It still splashes the logo and vibrates repeatedly.
The port is not visible to any laptop, so adb and fastboot seem out of the question.
The stock recovery on this device has "apply update from SD card", so I need to figure out how an update.zip should look like.
Razer have a bunch of older stock ROMs on their site.
Can I just take the latest, rename it update.zip, put it on a micro SD and use the stock recovery to fix things?
Just saw the tear down. It's worse than my N10+ port PCB to replace.
However if the battery is getting near its lifespan maybe now is the time as the battery needs to come out anyway to replace the port PCB.
The port PCB price is probably low.

The other thing I just found is that when I use "apply update from ADB" it used to complain about init.usb.rc, init.usb.configfs.rc. I looked at both files. 0B length with 1969 date on them. What?
There must be some way to flash a recovery from the sd card instead of using the USB port.
The thing is the battery held the whole day after a night charge yesterday, so probably not the battery. I have a feeling some apps I used to "improve" the battery and "fix" the system deleted some bits.

If you have a bad usb port PCB I would replace it now.
They can cause a lot of mischief and in other services that you never expect it to.
The battery is cheap so it's easiest to replace it at the same time as you need to pull it anyway.
200 or more full charge cycles, replace.
One more thing. I bought a wireless charger to see if it is 100% the port, and the wireless charger has not made anything easier. It seems not capable of getting any charge in. So at the moment I have only one to charge it, turn it off and use USB A to USB C cable.

Probably a defective charge port PCB... you can try a factory reset or reflashing the stock firmware if really want to test it.
Check for any signs of battery (rear panel or display bulging) swelling; replace battery asap if present! Batteries can fail at any time.

I have now done the factory reset, didn't help. Nothing is bulging. I would like to flash a fresh factory ROM, but I have no access to the port. So, no fastboot and no adb. I can't even install proper drivers in Win10 PRO since the laptop does not recognize the phone, at all.
I am searching now for any solutions with the sd card. People used to do that, updates with *.zip on an sd.
Since it is out of warranty anyway now, I have finally unlocked the bootloader.
I am trying to find out if the ROMs Razer provide on their site are signed or not.

I don't know if you have had a chance to see the USB port assembly on Ebay? Some prices are close to $120. Add to that labor costs (unless you think I should do the deed myself) or costs for tools and fresh adhesive for the plastic that covers speakers, etc... and it is going cost me more than I paid for it new.

Ok, thank you for finding this, but it looks like the ribon connector wire only. The PCB besides the port also has the microphone, I think. It appears to be sold as a unit. If the problem is the wire, then sure this would be the part.
In any case, I have managed to get the wireless charger to charge. Depending on how fast the charge will be lost today will tell say something about the battery.

They can cause a lot of mischief and in other services that you never expect it to.
The battery is cheap so it's easiest to replace it at the same time as you need to pull it anyway.
200 or more full charge cycles, replace.

Unfortunately replacing the USB charge board and port in the phone doesn't always fix it. I have a box of nearly a dozen RP2 main boards I need to dig through to figure out what the actual cause of the charging boot loop

Have you played with any OS shortcut apps on it?
The Android Setup apk will get screwed up if you access it after the original setup.
Specifically it will alter the port behavior when you connect with it. Very irritating, took me days to finally track it down on my 10+
If you clear it's data in settings it may leave the null mark that's screwing it up. Some 3rd party apps can completely clear that null mark.
Otherwise factory reset.

This is a hardware issue, nothing any kind of reset can fix or app clearing. Even if you have the device entirely powered off, plug it in on anything 2Amp or higher, it'll loop

That's not how the issue I saw behaved; only happened with the device powered on and it didn't boot loop. Just an annoying pop up message.
If it has a port PCB, try replacing that. If it's just a charge port with no components on it... it's likely either corrupted firmware (reflash) or a mobo failure.
A loose connection or bad contact is also possible.
That's my guess...
