Is There Any Hope From xiaomi To Enable Camera 2 Api With Android P Update or With A OTA Update? If so, is there something for us that we should do. Like Tweet To xiaomi or something else
I doubt it but telling them does not hurt. I did via the feedback app, multiple channels would help, so tweet and write emails
request sent to xiaomi too

Wait wouldn't that be other way around? Like ".. make their camera look "superior" in lowlight..." like just look at nokia 6.1 plus with gcam. Or am I missing something?

Mi camera application doesn't use camera2api. So if they enable camera2api their camera become inferior to the Gcam mods.
I have unlocked my device and enabled camera2api via setprop method.
I will happily relock if they enable camera2api by default.

NThe camera donĀ“t become inferior, julst their APP of the camera.
Everyone that ha a GCam mod that works confirms that you get best photos on low light, and also good light.
The Pocophone cameras are inferior but have that enable by default....
I have mi 5s befor and camera 2 api was enabled
it would be great to have camera2api enabled by ota, I've buyed this phone also because it's android one and can use all google app, including google camera.
nokia 6.1 has camera2api enabled and it's android one
anyone interested please confirm the *bug* here
Guys, I have wasted a lot of time finding the perfect camera to bring out the juice of redmi 5.
And now, I have came up with this.
Note:[important]
This camera mod is supported only in Pixel Experience pie normal edition's latest version with the stock pe pie kernel.
##read the full op before download.
As usual, the mod credit goes to (Arnova). i just found the trick, that's all. He created the files, not me.
(THESE ARE FOR PE RUNNING ANDROID PIE 9.0 ONLY. ANY OTHER VERSION WILL CAUSE PARSE ERROR ON INSTALLATION.)
Steps:
1.download the "install this first" (size around 30 mb) file. install and open it. give permissions and then exit.
2.Then download the "after configuration,install .."file.(size around 142 mb.)
then install it.
results:
1.the front camera works like charm.
u guys don't have to keep hdr+ off anymore.
hdr+, hdr+ enhanced, raw, portrait, night sight... everything works on front camera.
2.Back camera has some lag,,but gets normal if shooting in good lighting conditions. again, all the functions work.
slow motion shows and works, but the videos get very bad resolution.try installation of open camera to shoot the hell out of rosy.
It has google AWB implementation. highlight balance is just great. will provide photo samples below.
How it happened?:
i don't know.
Ask the devs how can a custom apk can be updated?
the first file was v5.2.x
the second file was 6.2.x and optimized for razer phone 2.
these both got merged and final size takes 142 mb of system memory. App takes time to launch.
important(2):
settings(must) to reduce lag:
1.turn off the auto focus data showing up on screen.
2.revert every function to google defaults.
3.follow screenshots.
Reply if u guys need to know anything more..
Nice to help u all.

Thank you OP! Can confirm that Night Sight works perfectly; I have been getting 1/6s exposures with the app. However the same autofocus issue still remains.
Can i install for cusrom evolution X?? Answer please

What is purpose of this prop? It appeared after android 10 update. I could not find any information about it but I cannot use second rear camera with any third party apps. I tried changing camera.aux.packagelist, vendor.camera.aux.packagelist, persist.vendor.camera.expose.aux, I also added persist.camera.expose.aux but apps still can't detect second rear camera. Does anyone know values of prop in the title?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: persist.vendor.camera.switch.aux=unknown
If you want to use the second cam on the rear you need different things:
1. A gcam that can switch between cams like the latest The_Dise version here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-the_dise/#apk1549
2. You also need the Magisk module to enable the auxiliary buttons. You can download this from within The_Dise's gcam or from here directly: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/dmgcaux_v1.zip
3. You need a ROM that can handle it. It didn't work on stock for me, but on Pixel Experience it works.
All and all it was not worth the trouble in my opinion, but I just wanted to test it. I think it has more purpose for the higher end phones with more different cams on their back.
Hi All
Has anyone a link to a user guide for the phone? I didn't get a paper one and although I can use a phone and install apps with ease, there are lots and lots of camera features which I'm finding out by experimentation.
I've emailed Xiaomi, but don't expect an answer and couldn't find the user guide on the Xiaomi site. For example, I didn't find the macro setting much use, but 5x zoom in Photo mode works MUCH better.
Thanks for reading...
Steve
ps I did a couple of timings and did the following:
1) Charge up to 100% and play the "Norwegian Train Ride" video on YouTube.
The phone lasted 11.5 hours before turning off.
2) Charged it back up to 100% with the 67W charger (that USB cable is thick!)
It took 50 minutes to charge back up to 100%

Well slap me with a wet kipper! Xiaomi UK did reply with a link, but it's only a generic manual how to make phone calls, etc. if it's any use to anyone it's here:
https://i01.appmifile.com/webfile/globalimg/Global_UG/Mi_Smartphone/User_Guide/mi_phone_user_manual_EN.pdf
I've contacted them again asking for a user guide for the camera so wait and see.

Look on YouTube #shootlikeapro Xiaomi did some videos on the options in the camera.

Hi @justintime thanks for your reply. I took a look on Youube but I think most of the shootlikeapro videos are for other xiaomi phones.
I'll carry on experimenting (guessing) and report what I find here in case it helps anyone else.
So far I've found this:
The macro mode isn't much different to normal mode and my Note10 is much better than the Ultra. However, using the 2x or 5x zoom instead works very well.
Night mode is amazing! Night pics look like daylight pics
Next up I'm going to play with time lapse and night mode time lapse so I'll post up here.
Cheers
Steve
Oh yes, my note10 pro took 8 seconds to post-process a night picture and the Ultra takes 3 seconds. Snapdragon 888. num num num.
Ok next up is daytime time lapse.
To use it you open the camera, choose More and Time-lapse.
On the left of the screen, you get a timer icon and if you touch this, you get speed and duration options. For the duration, you can choose a set time, or infinity so it will record forever, or until your storage is full.
For the speed, you can set it from 4x to 180x. I tried a time lapse of the clouds at 4x, but the speed was not fast enough for what I wanted, but 30x was just dandy.
So I think the speed setting is a multiplier for the output speed, so 4x is 4x faster than normal etc.
Tonight it's a night mode time lapse. To access this, you choose more/movie effects/ Night Time lapse ( I think! )
Anyway, I'll post up when I have some results
Cheers

Oh yes, something else I forgot. When you record time lapse, the screen goes black apart from a ring timer showing you the duration so far. I guess this saves battery
Well I tried night time lapse last night. The phone was on battery and was dead in the morning. The video was saved just fine. The results weren't very good, nowhere near as good as the demo night time lapse in More/Movie Effects. It just looks like a normal video with no night enhancements and was quite dark. Maybe I did something wrong :-(
I've just updated to MIUI 12.5.4 and according to the page below, it includes 13 camera enhancements, including night mode, so I'll give it a go tonight.
https://min.news/en/tech/590f98d68b0fdbb259d5fd644b74d23c.html
Another issue is camera access. I've tried a few camera2 api checkers from the Play Store, but all only show 2 cameras , front (1) and back (0) which is a bit dissapointing as I'd quite like to use other camera apps and choose the lens. Hm......
The nice part is they both support LEVEL_3 and RAW output.
Cheers Steve
After even more searching, I found the following user guide:
User manuals (English) - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra - [placeholder | TechBone
The user manuals (English) of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra online or as direct download.
www.techbone.net
It's lacking in a lot of detail, but gives some clues.

Ok I'm stuck. I can't find out how to do night video that's any good. The ROM update didn't help so if anyone knows how to do it, please let me know so I can stop buggering about.

So two things I've noticed that have helped improve my night mode video recording from initial testing so far is to turn off AI mode and if possible, use a handheld tripod/stabilizer if you have one. Seems to help a lot in both 1080p and 4k 30fps.
Hi @kyero985 thanks for your reply. AI is turned off and I have a Joby Gorillapod which I use for night video. The videos have very low colour rendering, almost a black and white version.
I'll post up a screen grab of my night video for reference as soon as I can.
Cheers
Steve
I've attached a screenshot of a night video which seems very poor to me. Also attached is another screen shot from a camera2 API checker on the play store. Disappointingly, it only lists 2 cameras which is irritating. I guess I need to root it and enable camera2 API?

I think the 2 cameras being detected in camera2 API checkers (front & main cam) is normal. I had the Vivo X51 Pro (also known as Vivo X50 Pro in some markets) and it was the same.
HOWEVER, when using Google Camera ports from BSG with the Snapcam package signature, ALL cameras are detected and can be used. Hopefully it's the same thing with Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
Hi All
I just installed EU Weekly ROM 21.6.16 Beta and the camera seems improved. Notably the screen lag when zooming at high factors.
The ROM above was offered OTA so I downloaded the zip, booted to TWRP, wiped the Dalvik cache and installed it without any backups (eek) and it all worked fine. No data loss or anything.
It's tricky to find the subject at high zooms, couple that with screen lag of the image and it's even harder.
Now the screen updates really fast so congrats to the EU ROM team!
I also noticed the Macro seems better and more able to get closer to the image. Also previoulsy night mode video didn't seem to work very well. Hardly any colour information so almost a black-and-white image (see above).
It's light here in the UK now (6pm) so when it's darker (around 9pm) I'll give it a bash and report back. Fingers crossed!
Cheers

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I'm tempted to flash the EU Weekly ROM myself too as I'm keen on testing the potential all-round camera improvements too.
I'm still on 12.5.7 CN Stable myself and don't have many complaints as it's come a long way since the stock firmware but I am really curious and feeling up to do more testing.
No problem. That's what we're all here for, to share our experiences to hopefully help others.
Obviously I'm going to say you should always backup before flashing, but as I had backed up the previous day so took the risk.
My backup regime for data I care about is:
SMS
SMS backup and restore:
SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
A simple app that backs up and restores SMS & MMS messages and call logs.
play.google.com
Backs up up message to Google Drive
====================================================
Whatsapp:
Settings/Chats/Chat backup

Photos:
Copy entire DCIM folder and sub-folders to PC
====================================================
/SteveData
My documents etc.
Copy folder and sub-folders to PC
====================================================
Calendar:
Automatically backed up to Google Drive

This regime has served me well across multiple ROMs.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be able to unlock my BL this Sunday so I'm looking forward to flashing the 24/06 EU Weekly which should be out by then. I'm ready to format my data and use TWRP to complete this process.
I'll be posting some photo comparisons too as I have done previously. How big of an improvement have you noticed over the previous stable?
Hi that's what these forums are for eh? Sharing info for all to see. Th mani improvement I notices was improvement on the camera lag issue. This was noticable when you try to zoom at high factors. Clearly at high zoom, it's hard to steady the camera, but even harder when the screen image lags behind.
I'm on EU weekly now MIUI 12.6 21.6.23 beta and it seems fine.
Cheers
Steve
As promised, I flashed the EU 21.6.23 Weekly today from CN 12.5.7 and everything's working well so far. Thanks for all your advice so far. A few things I've noticed about the camera so far:
1. All levels of Zoom are incredibly stable now. Even at 120x (not that you'd want to use it a lot), it hardly shakes or stutters. Quality of zoomed-in photos are better as a result since it can stabilize and lock-on more quickly. However, anything over 40x is still unusable imo.
2. Night Mode photos are a tiny bit better. There's a bit more detail and clarity and slightly less noise all-round in all of my low light sample shots. Handheld Night Mode Zoom shots are considerably better due to the stabilization improvement on the telephoto lens since you need to be still for about 5 seconds anyway.
3. Taking photos up close is better now. No, it's still not on the same level as the S21 Ultra since that phone still takes the best macro mode shots from what I've seen, but it is noticeable and a small step-up over 12.5.7.
is that another limitation as well? I can seem to backup device to google drive. As far as I read from all the threads, Android Auto, location history did not work. But I didnt see backing up device to google (and restoring).
Just wondering and sorry if I missed it somewhere on the threads.

It doesn't work too even when it's rarely mentioned.
ok..Thats that .
Thanks
There are plenty more google services just not as widely used that don't work.
E g. Google Play Services for AR (formerly ARCore). Some Vivo China OS devices support it, others don't according to google compatibility list. It kinda stops at x50 pro however (with x80 vanilla being the odd newer exception). You can side load it but then you also need to side load / apk install any app that is AR only on Play store.
It should be offered in vivo appstore if compatible for vivo devices but x90 pp doesn't list it.
I'm not sure if for example pokemon Go works however. On a first try it only showed AR instead of AR+ which it should show with ARCore. If it only enables AR+ with full google compatibility indicated it will not work. If it can be set to just ignore compatibility it will work.
Google assistant barely works (no conversation, no hotword). Quite a few other missing things here and there ( not sure how many can be partly solved by side loading)
worse thing is Im hooked on this phone...but everyday theres a little bit of you cant do this and cant do that...shame. because if they did a global version its a winner..
I am wondering how funtouch 13 compares to color OS...almost tempted to try the x90 pro global as the 1 inch camera and the hardware I am sold on.
I am still struggling with notifications on lock screen only, and things like nearby share dont work..like little things that add up.....

Not possible to use Google backup on a phone without root for me is a huge problem, not a small one. Because it means days to restore should you move to another phone respectively should you need to hard reset....
But yeah in principle it's a great hardware (except modem, some sensors like compass and the slow charging on PD chargers plus the uber sensitivity to charging cables), just software that hits a few bugs every single day.
I really feel you need to be a die hard Vivo fanboy to overlook those problems.
Buying a Xiaomi virtually anyone outside China just flashes xiaomi.eu custom ROM. Very different situation. Same for OnePlus just flash to global (though with OnePlus 11 this got mighty complicated especially with region lock)..
But for example for AR vivo 90 pro global isn't certified either, so that actually had nothing much to do with google. Other Chinese brands certify all their midranger and flagships because it affects also all Chinese apps that want to use AR as it's the only AR platform for Android. And yes side loading works but if the system reports it cannot do it, while it can it poses app developers into big problems. If they just enable AR features for all phones then those who didn't side load the AR services will get bugs...
If you want the 1" sensor just wait for Xiaomi 13 Ultra and either get global directly or wait for a Xiaomi.eu ROM (many shops will pre flash). It will have the 1" sensor with variable aperture as it seems and that's a huge plus because in quite a lot of situations the bokeeh is too much (e.g food pictures). Or wait what Samsung does with the announced big camera update end of March (or use gcam on S23u, it's really dialled by now and way superior to stock and doesn't have the problems gcam has on X90pp). Then Pixel 8 pro should have 1/1.12" sensor too but that's a long wait...
The Magic 5 pro cannot really convince me for upgrade. They also botched the modem like Vivo and the zoom isn't too good. I would prefer it but not good enough vs s23U. Also it doesn't seem to use actual crop from full resolution for 2x portrait and some more limitations on camera.
