Hello.
I just got a Xiaomi Mi 5 32GB from Gearbest and I am wondering if it has any spyware/malware and if I have to flash a new ROM on it.
It came with MIUI8 Global Stable (i don't remember the version, but it was 8.X.X.X) and I just updated it to MIUI 8.1.2.0 Stable through the updater.
It seems to be working fine. Can I assume that it is running on a legit official Global MIUI and that it doesn't have any spyware/malware on it?
I would post screenshots, but since I am a new user I am not allowed to. But if you wish, you can remove the space before the 'com'.

Yes..it's official miui global stable rom, but about spyware/malware, i can't sure or guarantee it's 100% free spyware/malware..but what i know..as long this is global stable rom..there's no bloatware Chinese apps like in miui Chinese based rom. From my experience using this global stable..what i don't like is..too much google apps that i don't used or even needed for my daily used and system not good as Chinese based have, that's why now i'm prefer using xiaomi.eu that are still based from official Chinese rom but already removing all bloatware and optimized the system for global used.
Right, about miui.eu, I thought about flashing it but I read on the forums that it is a bit faster but there are a few more bugs and that there isn't that much of a difference compared to the official. And the Google apps don't bother me that much. So I will try the official for a few months and see.
Thanks for your answer. Cheers.
hi
can someone recommend an MIUI based or stock-based ROM with better battery life?
currently getting less than 1 day on normal usage which is kind of bad.
Thanks
I get roughly 2 days of normal use with MiuiMiX (Q) (flashed with twrp, Rom is based on Chinese vendor, Magisk preinstalled) - no further tweaks other than what stock has to offer. Could try different kernel settings but didn't bother as things work well and with no problems for me. Never change a running system, eh?!
Miui Eu beta is great, much much better than the global miui specially in battery life, global was draining my battery so fast i couldnt keep it all day but eu beta gives me around 2 days its de-bloated and optimized
I had suffered a degradation of performance over the past year and a bit. After many clean reinstalls and installing every update I felt like my phone just wasn't lasting a day and was hitching.
I'd looked into going back due to loss of support, and I'm so glad I did.
I highly recommend going back to miui 11, as it appears to be optimised for our device. Unlike miui 12/12.5. I had forgotten just how powerful our device actually is.
Give it a go:

which version did you install. The latest 11.0.8.0?
12.5.6 is giving me really bad screen on time (around 2 hours)
12.5.5 was far better.. i will give 11 another try and see how things are going with that version.

sadly 11.0.8.0 does not support Widevine L1 - I had it installed for about 4 weeks now (Battery life is okay, sometimes Rom is a bit buggy). I will return to 12.5.5 again and decide on which one i will stay.
What's the battery life like on Xiaomi EU v11.0.8? Like, give me some SOT stats.
Have you guys tried MokeeOS on Android 10? It's still being updated as of September 2022.

I just tried it yesterday and it is pretty damn good on battery life. Idle battery drain was about 1% after 13 hours, compared to 1% every 45 mins or 1 hour on HavocOS (A11).
I think A10 ROMs are still better optimized for our phone.

Is that 8 hours from 100% down to 0%?
So about 4.8 minutes per 1% drain then?
No rom for this phone works as well as miui 10.3.5 based on android9. All others(stock miui 11,12,12.5 and xiaomi.eu roms) get progressively slower. Xiaomi.eu roms do better than stock but it still does not work as well as 10.3.5
I installed streak os latest version .Everything was well but battery ran out pretty fast.So anyone can recommend me a rom with long battery life ?
I have the latest stock rom and i am interesting to try and xiaomi.eu but i have 3 questions
1. I know that with xiaomi.eu AOD can be set to always but how much battery it is draining?
2. Does xiaomi.eu has bugs that stock rom doesn't have?
3. How is the battery comparing the roms?

xiaomi eu isn't that much diffrent from a stock miui because it is just debloated and a little bit tweaked version of it. Battery usage will increse, but it's up to you if it's acceptable level. The best place to ask people about it is that roms support group on telegram or something
Try both and find one which suitbale for you
For me, MIUI stock (ID region) more worth for me but maybe other will feel not
