Hi Guys
Just bought a Huawei P20 pro for my wife and discovered that when she makes a call, facetime, zoom etc and uses the loud speaker function it sounds really muffled like she's at the bottom of a pool.
I've tried a reset. I've tried restricting app permissions that use the microphone and none of it has made a bit of difference. I remember having a similiar issue when i replaced the screen on a galaxy s8+. The water gasket wasn't seated correctly and it caused the mic to become really muffled when using loudspeaker. Do you guys think it could be the same issue?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've got no problem taking the phone apart just don't want to until I have exhausted all potential root causes.
Thanks in advance.

Hello.
Some time ago the microphone on my xperia went berserk. The people I was talking to couldn't hear me. As my warranty was void, I decided to try fixing the problems myself. After disassembling the phone according to instructions on the net, I found no weak contacts, everything seemed fine. I reassembled it and the problem persisted. I use the voice recoder in the notes app to test it, since I don't want to call people all the time.
As I've come to understand, and I'd like someone to confirm this, the mic unit is located on the PCB with the buttons around the optical joystick. Considering the little hole on the bottom of the front part, and a rubber channel going around that hole, which can be seen when disassembled.
Talking into the mic hole produces no audible sounds, but blowing strongly into it can be heard on the recording... Also, theres quite a lot of static on the recordings, which could indicate faulty contacts or something, but I've rechecked the wiring and everything seems fine. I don't really know what could be wrong with it. If anybody has any ideas, I'd be more than grateful.
The sound playback works flawlessly, so it's not a speaker issue.
Also does anybody know of/have a X1 service manual maybe?

Hello,
My HTC Diamond on last week gets "MicroPError" and no backlight.
I dismounted the phone to clean the interior and fix the connections inside, after mountin it, the backlight was fixed and I was happy with it, because I could fix the problem on my phone, but when I make the first call, i realised that I fixed one problem and get another one.
So now, the problem on my phone is when I make or when I receive a call no one can hear me.
Can someone help me trying to fix my phone.
Best regards
Ya i can help you. The problem is the with the 2 golden hook like connectors.[ Near the camera ] You might have bend it in the process of cleaning.
To be specific , the top portion of the mobile when removed controls the speakers. You can easily spot the golden connector and make sure that it touches the upper metal connector when closing the top cover.
top cover is the one above the battery in this pic

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, but it didn't solve my problem, I checked what you said, and the connection is normal.
By the way this is not the connector for the speaker? My problem is not on the speaker, my problem is on the microphone.
My problem is not ear the others, but the other can't ear me on a phone call, so the problem is on the microphone, don't you agree?
Do you have another idea for this problem?
Best regards.

Check your microphone connections at the lower bottom . One with a black cap.
Hello again,
Can you please help me identifying the microphone.
Best regards
Hello again,
I checked it again, and the connections of the microphone sims to be fine.
I think the microphone itself is damaged, because I make another test.
I tryed to use the Voice Recorder, and found that if I talk normal on the recorder, when I play the sound, my voice is very low, almost not earable and a lot of noise, if I talk louder, when playing the sound my voice is already possible to ear, but also with a lot of noise, this is the reason for thinking that the problem is on the microphone. By the way, the black cap of the microphone falls down when I opened the phone for cleaning on the first time, is it normal.
If the problem is, as I think on the microphone, is it possible to replace the microphone, or it must be replaced the pc-board.
Best regards.
Hey I just repaired an HTC One. I got the whole Front assembly including the speaker grills. Transferred everything over and when the volume is all the way up and you play a video with someone talking it will rattle quite bad. But usually only happens when you have it at the loudest setting and someone is talking. If you play music it usually will not happen. I was wondering if anyone else encountered this issue and what would cause it? I have another earpiece speaker on order. Any idea's anyone?
thanks in advance for the help.
Is anybody finding the microphone on their Mix to be too quiet? When I use snapchat, skype, and phone calls, the person on other end complains that I'm barely audible. However, when I record something with the recorder app, it sounds much louder and clearer than a recording in snapchat under the same conditions. I have a feeling it's the noise cancelling microphones on top that are muffling the main microphone, but I don't have a way to test this. I've checked the mic grille for debris and already cleaned as much as I can without disassembling the phone. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because again, the issue seems to be app-dependent. I had this problem on stock MIUI 8 global, but now I'm running the latest RR build with Dragonxia, and the above scenarios still hold true. Anybody else experiencing microphone issues or has any idea how to solve this?
What case are you using? Maybe you've got one that blocks some of the mic holes? I use mine naked and haven't had a problem with microphone on miui 8. There are known mic issues on RR/Lineage ROMs.
Hey,
My phone got really quiet during phonecalls 2 weeks ago. I have the slight feeling that I got a software update in that timeframe, but since I can't pinpoint either, that might be coincidence (unless others have the same problem). I also noticed that before while watching videos, you would get the feeling that the sound came from the middle of your phone (and had proper stereo), while now I notice pretty obviously that the sound comes out of the speakers near the USB-C connector..
I've also confirmed that everything is fine when I have a call on Bluetooth Headsets or on Loudspeaker, so it seems that only the speaker next to the front facing camera is affected.
Anybody else with similar issues? Makes phonecalls without bluetooth close to impossible in any crowded area.
Thanks, Olli

Check your audio settings anyway. Leave it on music, seems to help and check if mono is turned on in accessibility.
If like me you blocked up your earpiece grill, then get a toothbrush and get it clean, no water just (light) stabbing motions and circular whilst pushing against it .
For me it was what worked.
The main speaker (bottom) I would avoid pushing anything in there at all, but compressed air would work as it should.
