Mic sensitivity issues - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Is anybody finding the microphone on their Mix to be too quiet? When I use snapchat, skype, and phone calls, the person on other end complains that I'm barely audible. However, when I record something with the recorder app, it sounds much louder and clearer than a recording in snapchat under the same conditions. I have a feeling it's the noise cancelling microphones on top that are muffling the main microphone, but I don't have a way to test this. I've checked the mic grille for debris and already cleaned as much as I can without disassembling the phone. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because again, the issue seems to be app-dependent. I had this problem on stock MIUI 8 global, but now I'm running the latest RR build with Dragonxia, and the above scenarios still hold true. Anybody else experiencing microphone issues or has any idea how to solve this?

What case are you using? Maybe you've got one that blocks some of the mic holes? I use mine naked and haven't had a problem with microphone on miui 8. There are known mic issues on RR/Lineage ROMs.

Microphone doesn't work

Hey folks,
I had the problem with the stock ROM and now I have the similar problem with jackeagels 5.5.1 (SM-G800F).
My microphone works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. People I want to call can't hear me. Eventually after a few calls they do. This is a state I don't want to stay in so does one has any idea what the problem could be? A while ago I pulled some dust out of the mic hole (with a needle) but that doesn't seem to be the problem here
Mines always been dust in the hole. Get compressed air can and blast it. Very annoying.
Hey Guys!
I have a similar problem but only when I use the internal mic, the problem does not occur when I use my headset.
Sometimes, the people I'm calling say that they can hear me very quietly.
Mostly, they say that they hear a constant noise or sound like a "bom bom bom" which is in the background. I can't hear this sound myself and as I said it does not occur when the headset is plugged in.
Any help is appreciated!
Regards, Jens
What phone model? What OS?
The main mic is at the bottom, near USB port. Recording a voice note without earphone, of course, works? The mic hole is dirt or blocked somehow?

Thanks for your reply.
It is a G800F with CyanogenMod 13.
I tested the issue after my initial post with the voice recorder in detail.
So the sound is a kind of buzzing like in the early days of mobile phones when you put your phone near a radio and you get an incoming call.
When I record with the voice recorder, then I hear the buzzing. It is stronger when I say something and quiter when I record silence. Then I also made the same test with my headset, and, unfortunately the buzzing also occured. The intensity was bit lower I think but the sound was there.
Unfortunately, I never tested it with the stock rom. Could this problem be related to a software problem? I'm not sure if I backup my CM and install a stock rom for testing...
Thx!
Yeah, the best way to mak sure it's not software is backup and going back to stock. If it still doesn't work then you have a hardware issue almost certainly...

Problem with noise cancellation in OxygenOS 3.5.4

I'm having a weird problem with my OnePlus 3T. I just got the phone about two days ago and have been testing out the camera, especially all the video modes. It seems that very many OnePlus phones have had some kind of noise cancellation issues, including the OnePlus 3. However the problem with noise cancellation in videos should already have been fixed was it in 3.2.2 and I'm running of course the latest 3.5.4.
So the video doesn't pick the backround audio as well as it would without the noise cancellation which should have been turned off. It also seems that when I talk a little hiss comes on to the video and when I stop talking, after half a second the hiss goes away. Also if sudden volume changes are introduced to the camera the amount of distortion is incredible.
The problem is also apparent in WhatsApp audio messages. The audio just seems to lack a lot of frequencies I had with my iPhone which I switched from to this phone. The iPhone recorded kind of steady audio. Here the audio seems to jump all around and seems ridiculously compressed and scratchy.
What I would like to know that is this still an issue with 3T and is there a fix for that? I would also like to know that what is the audio supposed to sound like. I have tried to find a reasonably good reference audio from youtube but they don't seem to have any unless they tell you about the previous model's horrible noise cancellation issue, which again should already have been resolved.

same here! not already fixed in OOS Open Beta4

Loud noise generated by internal mic

This is the second time it happened, I busted my ass trying to fix it first time I encountered it, and I don't know how I fixed it. Total restart of the phone does not get rid of the issue. Bluetooth and speakerphone mode are not affected. Noise produced during calls, incoming or outgoing, sounds like someone is blowing air with full force into the mic, so the other party hears only noise. Recording with an app over the same mic does not produce the noise, so it seems only calls are affected. Anyone heard of something like this?
This is probably going to be the last drop in the sea of issues that plagues this flag**** phone, so I will be probably looking for something else that does not have Nokia stamped on it.

P20 Pro Speaker volume during phonecalls to quiet / Speaker next to front cam broken?

Hey,
My phone got really quiet during phonecalls 2 weeks ago. I have the slight feeling that I got a software update in that timeframe, but since I can't pinpoint either, that might be coincidence (unless others have the same problem). I also noticed that before while watching videos, you would get the feeling that the sound came from the middle of your phone (and had proper stereo), while now I notice pretty obviously that the sound comes out of the speakers near the USB-C connector..
I've also confirmed that everything is fine when I have a call on Bluetooth Headsets or on Loudspeaker, so it seems that only the speaker next to the front facing camera is affected.
Anybody else with similar issues? Makes phonecalls without bluetooth close to impossible in any crowded area.
Thanks, Olli

Check your audio settings anyway. Leave it on music, seems to help and check if mono is turned on in accessibility.
If like me you blocked up your earpiece grill, then get a toothbrush and get it clean, no water just (light) stabbing motions and circular whilst pushing against it .
For me it was what worked.
The main speaker (bottom) I would avoid pushing anything in there at all, but compressed air would work as it should.

Question S21 Ultra Microphone Background Noise Cancelation too aggressive on speaker calls

Has anyone noticed the background noise cancellation when using the speaker microphone is too aggressive in a VOLTE or video call? Any time I lay my phone flat and step > 3' away and talk out loud at an angle that is not directly pointed at the phone, the receiving party complains that my voice is too low or cutting in and out. It happens with multiple video apps but is less prominent in Duo. I wanted to see if anyone else has been experiencing similar issues. This has been happening on 2 different devices after my first replacement.
Using a case or skin? Don't obstruct the mic ports, they tend to be very small.
Maybe just be the design, a setting or a firmware issue (hopefully Samsung will patch if so).
Been a wet dog year for Android and Samsung...
Yeah, i have tried without a case and the problem still exists. I think the audio processor for the Mic inputs may be too aggressive or not tuned for my voice. After looking at similar problems with other devices, I think the solution lies in the location of the audio configuration files; particularly in system/vendor/etc/audio_effects.xml and audio_platform_info.xml. I'm not too familiar with editing configuration files on a non-rooted device. Is there any way to modify some of the config files to play around with the stock noise suppression?
Try disabling or covering one or more of the mics.
Eventually Samsung will probably roll out a firmware or software fix

I understand this isn't the correct place for my reply but I just bought two phones one came from Samsung which is the S21 Ultra 5G but the other is the Samsung Note 9. Both new. Every time I try to talk to someone with my note 9 they say they cannot hear me. So I have to Culp the phone and my mouth as like making a sound tunnel, if you will, from my mouth directly to the phone and they are able to hear me but not sure how well. So if you find the solution I'll keep and eye out so I can hopefully fix my problem
Historically, Samsung is known to switch to the top mic for speakerphone mode, and lower mic for handset mode sometimes ... Maybe try speaking into the top mic and see if the noise cancellation is still aggressive.
