Well my phone feel so un-snappy, and I'm thinking if a factory reset or reflash from a new rom-file wil l help much?
I don't remember how it was when it was new.
A few years ago you basically just had to do this every few months if you wanted a snappy phone. But I have no idea if matters in 2021?
Reinstalling and setting all up again would probably take several hours for me, time i really don't have unless I have to. So if you guys have any input beforehand it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
I do it as needed especially if a virus is suspect.
If you've uninstalled a lot of apps and/or the phone is noticably slower or unstable... it's time.
If you have a good flash, reflashing the firmware is pointless unless you wish to change that version. Just needless wear and tear on the memory cells.

Yesterday my x1 freezed on volume adjusting on media panel.
Today just turned itself OFF while doin' search through files.
WTF?
Is it because I never flashed it?
There always is an ammount of junk files that pile up and slow certain processes (searching, opening folders with many files...) that cannot be cleaned by cleaners/reg cleaners, but nothing should compromise the whole system.
I have heard many times that hard resetting every couple of months is a good thing for the performance of the device (same as PCs), but I have never followed that path.
I hard reset/flash only when I need to. My last hard reset was in June and granted, the phone is a lil' bit slower, yet, I will not har reset it soon, unless there is a significant problem.
I guess your X1's time for a reset has come .

That's what I was afraid of
if your not on the latest firmware you might as well upgrade!

Exactly.....
Shame on me but I'm on the first one.
Yes, first one!
Basically works like a dream....
I have a little "upgrade trauma" after so many upgrades I
did with UIQ phones....
R1A is fine, R2A is nothing spectacular, but R3A is vastly superior. Faster, more stable, etc. Do it now! lolz

Thanks! It encourages me a bit more....
Its a Hong Kong bought LG P990 with GB, bought two years old. Rooted but 100% stock, just deleted pre-installed apps. At first it happened only once in a while, now maybe 1-3 times a day. It won't turn on. I don't know if its actually off or if the power button doesn't work. So I have to pull the battery and restart.
Its seems that about a year ago one day the power button require quite a bit of pressing to get it to turn on. Like I have to push really hard just to get it to turn on. Its been that way ever since. I always would have to do a restart every week or so because the thing would get REALLY buggy or REALLY slow. Then it started to not turn at all, the power button. It would do that about once a month, then once a week, then three times a day yesterday. This happen exponentially.
Its always been buggy and slow. I only have about 10 apps on it. Barely using any space.
Is it dying? How to tell if your smartphone is dying? How often do people replace their smartphones?
hi! you should try to:
a) flash the rom again and try to do it as clean as you can(try a hard reset then flash)
b)either use a rom that is already modded without the apps that you care to get rid off or watch if the problem is caused by the removal of unwanted app
c)have a little patience and test
hope it helps!

Thank you for your help. But I did the root and deletion of stock apps a long time ago. Why is this problem starting to get worst now? Or are you referring to the general slowness?
I never flashed a rom before so I don't really want to start. Unless its the clear answer to solve my problems. Is that what your suggesting? I have thought abut it, but I wonder how much worst I can make it. Plus, I am just scared I'll screw it up.
My v20s stock rooted rom was performing pretty well by my standards but after changing basebands and removing some unwanted apps i had some trouble with playstore(after using 3g internet, when switching to wi-fi it would not download or update apps) and the phone sometimes just shut off removing the battery being the only way to solve both problems.
Since i flashed the new v30a everything is peachy except the phone and that damn chrome app are a bit laggy sometimes(mostly chrome).
My advice to you is to ,one by one, try to eliminate each possible cause. Also flashing a new stock rom is not hard(and i guess neither a custom one tho i have no experience with that) so have no fear and please do read the tutorials for each rom. Good luck!
I am sure that most people have their ritual of how they Factory reset, Wipe, or delete everything on their computer. Well I want to do that but my method is pretty straight forward. write down the progs i want, save the pics/music i want and wipe! However there has got to be a better way than re-downloading all i need, but i just dont know. Usually i am stuck wiping when the computer crashes or something.
My laptop hp dv6 (not great, but not bad) is getting slow. Ex, at LEAST 4 minutes boot time. 3+ of that is after the windows logo. I generally try to keep things clean on my laptop but i have been running this thing for a few years now and I want to wipe it before school starts so i dont get stuck mid-semester with errors. That would be bad. I do have restore disks i made and I dont thing i have any viruses, just a heck of alot of clutter.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading! :cyclops:
It depends how much time you want to spend wiping your computer, if you want wipe it fast use a BFG. If you are willing to spend a long time zero fill the hdd.
BFG? Shoot it? That sounds a little more permanent than i want lol.
Zero fill, I am not really worried about people finding stuff on my computer, I just want to give it a good reset back to factory so it will hopefully run faster. Anyway, will zero fill help with hard drive health?

Hi.
Im sorry for the lackluster thread, im kinda in a hurry having my sister in law over who lost 1k photos by pressing something she doesnt remember.
I think its been resetting the phone.
Its running kitkat so its mtp which makes accessing the memory hard.
Is there a way to recover the phones, maybe rooting it (which i think that i can manage to do but i fear to overwrite the data doing it) it?
thx!
If she reset the phone and wiped the memory, then you are out of luck...
But maybe, you can take a look at EASEUS: http://www.easeus.com/mac/mac-data-recovery-resource/photo-recovery-freeware/free-recover-photo-from-android-phone.htm
Thank you so far!
After unlocking and rooting it seems to work, it found some icons and its working and working...i know how long it can take.
Now she has to go home and ill try another day but it made me optimistic to get the icons, so maybe the factory reset didnt delete the pictures.
it's possible, however, a long and complex process. I would only recommend to do it if the info you lose is really important.

It is about 1000 (she said, i think its about 500^^) children photos so yes, it is worth all the work i guess.
Im going to try again later this evening, so far i rooted the phone and the software had first results but we didnt have time to finish.
If anybody comes up with another great idea im totally open, whilling and skilled enough to do about anything but i think that the worst part will be the hours its gonna take to find and then rescure all the data, this time i can say goodbye and they let it work over night
I think this is due to the interactive scaling governor !!!which is actually for performance...it even drains my battery faster...... could sony change this into hotplug or any other power saving governor via an update...??
Sony should just go out of business.:good:
Useless whining. Reset and you will be fine. If you still have trouble, describe your issue.
Brother its a new mobile...the manufacturer has opted for interactive governor...reseting my mobile is not going to change any thing..!
Plenty of people have confirmed, a reset fixed their issues. But if you want to be stubborn and feel more intelligent, feel free to do so and keep a slow phone with crappy battery
My not so scientific opinion but still pretty nice observation is that as soon as the runtime reaches 4-5 days then the phone will be in such a state slow state because of the way Android 5.0 handles processing management. A quick is pretty much a reset and it only takes you a minute and its good again.
I've flashed a different 251 Rom since I got this phone because of issues like this. Now I'm problem free it's like a different phone. Also why not change the governor?
What are you talking about? Why should I reset my phone when there is no backup! If reset is the only way to solve the problem, then it means there is no way to solve it.
The phone meant to be used. One couldn't just keep it reset as new, which doesn't make any sense. It must run smooth and sound with your apps and data together, or we can come to a CONCLUSION that there are flaws in the OS or the device design.

back up everything on your PC or SD card, pen drive etc. and do a factory reset. He said its only one time only. don't have to keep resetting your phone. do it once time only and happy days.
and if you get same problem again after factory reset that means your device is faulty.
Did a factory reset and a repair in pc companion after and it didn't got better... I'll try another reset and report back...
Thanks people
