Yesterday my x1 freezed on volume adjusting on media panel.
Today just turned itself OFF while doin' search through files.
WTF?
Is it because I never flashed it?
There always is an ammount of junk files that pile up and slow certain processes (searching, opening folders with many files...) that cannot be cleaned by cleaners/reg cleaners, but nothing should compromise the whole system.
I have heard many times that hard resetting every couple of months is a good thing for the performance of the device (same as PCs), but I have never followed that path.
I hard reset/flash only when I need to. My last hard reset was in June and granted, the phone is a lil' bit slower, yet, I will not har reset it soon, unless there is a significant problem.
I guess your X1's time for a reset has come .

Exactly.....
Shame on me but I'm on the first one.
Yes, first one!
Basically works like a dream....
I have a little "upgrade trauma" after so many upgrades I
did with UIQ phones....
R1A is fine, R2A is nothing spectacular, but R3A is vastly superior. Faster, more stable, etc. Do it now! lolz

Can you enlist the 'strange' things?
I gave up after tuma release
Yes what do you mean by strange things, current WM5 versions are pretty stable and fast, so could you be more specific?
Where to start. Freezing, hardware buttons not working, it dieing in the middle of something even though the battery is fine, the battery meter saying that your brand new genuine 02 battery is ticking down at 3% min but then turn it off and on and it is fine, turning itself on when it is in your pocket even though all the buttons are locked the list just keeps going.
It still works well as long as you keep fixing it. I have 60+ programs on it and when I try and back it up and then when I have to hard reset it and you try and restore it the thing won't do it. Then I spend the next 4 evenings getting it back the way I like it. I even had to reset 20 times once because it wouldn't start properly. I stopped using it for 2 weeks and they were so relaxing not having to keep fixing it I then went back to it and now I am about to get a Jasjam (Tytn) because I would like to get my life back. OK I have had my whinge now.
1. WMP10 is a disaster: crashes phone, shuffles around library items, etc
2. With Power off, keys/LCD become active despite Button Lock ON.
3. sometimes refuses to charge
4. Poor memory management (OOM errors, keeps too many apps open, etc)
5. Occasional hang
and i havent even used bluetooth and Wifi yet - a whole other can of worms, i'm sure. My phone has only 5 apps installed.
solutions:
1. TCMP -- seems ok so far
2. living with it
3. soft reset
4. i think related to WMP10 -- good so far
Well I know that even my Dad's IIs which has the same ROM as mine none of the hard ware buttons work and bluetooth won't turn on and off then to top all that off it won't do a hard reset!!!
Ok you guys stated a lot of issues, you wont believe me that they do not occur in my device(exclude WMP 10 it sucks), i haven't perform hard reset from more than a month and my device works smooth. Of course i had problems with previous releases of WM5, but now it is fine, and a lot more good than 2003se.
@PPCNUT, maybe you have hardware problems with your device
Well both devices have bad problems but it could be possible. It is just it seems ironic that my 6 year old HP Jornada 720 Handheld PC still works fine and never needs a reset and even runs faster and is more reliable than the IIS!! I have had a lot of PPCs and other mobile devices and I find the IIs the worst and it needs the most work just to keep it working. All this is just my observations and I am sure lots of Blueangels run WM5 fine.
Suddenly my Sprint HTC Touch Diamond is running extremely slow. TouchFlo 3D will not start. Various things runs extremely slowly like tapping on the start menu takes like 20-30 seconds to come up.
Rebooted several times. Turned off TouchFlo. Phone's still as slow as molasses?
What to do? Flash the ROM? If so, which I'd hate to do, where do I get the original Sprint based ROM?
Update: For some reason \Windows\manilla.exe never gets run. If I run it by hand then Touch Flo comes up. But it's still kinda slow.
Who/What starts manilla.exe?
Simply do a hard reset, this will reset everything back to original rom as in a factory reset.

That would be wonderful if I didn't customize things. But I have - heavily. And I'll need to reinstall all my apps. I was hoping not to do that...

But this is the most likely reason it is running slowly... Needs a hard reset and start again - and be judicious with what you re-install.
Before doing a hard reset, have you tried a soft reset??
A soft reset for heavy users is almost required dally in some cases to release the memory from being attached to programs and the OS which is consider to be called "Memory Leaks." A typical problem for all 6.1 Roms.
This slow and sometimes unresponsive behaviour was what also experience as well. There are programs that help memory find it's home but sometimes a good old fashion soft reset is what's needed.
Last thing: Make sure that when you have flashed a new ROM to ALWAYS do a HARD RESET immediately. Not sure if you followed that procedure in your last flash. IF not, I'm afraid a soft reset might not be sufficient to remedy this issue for you.

This is exactly what I was trying to avoid. A computer doesn't suddenly go from running OK to dog slow when you have not changed anything (I only rebooted/soft reset). The running of manilla.exe doesn't suddenly disappear.
Everything I install I install for a reason.

Daily! If not hourly. WinMo is not known for being stable.

I'm well versed in what memory leaks are. 'Round here we call them bugs. Being in the business for some 30 years now I can tell you that having to reboot an OS periodically is a sign of an extremely buggy OS. Unfortunately that's what WinMo is.

There's a big difference between being slow and being suddenly SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWW.

I've yet to flash this phone. I was hoping to avoid it. There are so many ROMs to choose from, some better than others. And I'm not looking forward to having to reapply all my customizations...
i get a problem like this occasionally after a restart. I need to hit the green dial key to get it to ask my PIN. after i enter my pin everything is back to normal.
just an idea
sprite backup
What you should do is when you hard-reset the phone and you have installed all your must-have apps (and the phone still runs smoothly) use Sprite Backup to make an image. This way when things go bad again, just restore the Sprite image to that wonderful time when everything still worked smoothly and you won't have to install all the apps again. Only the apps you installed after the image ofcourse... depends how often you backup
Works like a charm.
Be careful though, when you flash another rom, you CAN'T use the Sprite image anymore!! You have to make a new image then.
Hope this helps.
The poll is self explanatory.
I'm just curious. I more or less have to do mine daily. Sometimes I can go a day or so or more, but not often before something doesn't work properly.
about 2-3 times/day avarage .... im not sure if mine's the only one with problems like this but its hell ... changes with roms a bit but always has problems ...
Once a month about. Maybe once a 3 weeks.
I do it daily, because I want to. I feel compelled by my inner voice to do it.
daily...,,...
It depends on navigation use: Without daily navigation I can go more than a week without a softreset. But I guess Navigons MN7.x leaves something in the memory that causes problems afters some days -but only at the next start of MN7.x not at other software. But because I use MN7.x nearly daily, a softreset has to be done every 3-4 days.
i hardly ever do - except today when for some reason the vibrator was stuck on
Ooops. My mistake.
I actually misunderstood the question thinking of beeing forced to do.
Well I do it once a week basically...
once a week
It's done automatically every night with SPB Backup. But before I bought this software, I had to soft reset about once a week.

Same as this guy
I soft-reset the X1 whenever I see a need to. Which is probably about once a week - as soon as I start to feel the device is slightly slower than normal.
Though there was once I was so bored in class I randomly went to soft-reset my X1 - and my friend was staring at me like I was crazy.
I have an external battery charger, and keep a spare charged battery with me. When the battery dies I exchange it, kind of like doing a rotating system with the battery. This shuts down the X1, does that count as a soft-reset? Hah

I do it once a day withouth necessity rather it's just to kill those apps on the back
Resets Depend on what I'm Doing
The only time I have to reset my Xperia is when I'm messing with it and it hangs up. If I simply use it and the programs I've installed, it almost never needs to be reset. I'm hard on my device, as I supposed many of us are.
As a matter of procedure, I reset it once in the morning whether I need to or not.
I think this is due to the interactive scaling governor !!!which is actually for performance...it even drains my battery faster...... could sony change this into hotplug or any other power saving governor via an update...??
Sony should just go out of business.:good:
Useless whining. Reset and you will be fine. If you still have trouble, describe your issue.
Brother its a new mobile...the manufacturer has opted for interactive governor...reseting my mobile is not going to change any thing..!
Plenty of people have confirmed, a reset fixed their issues. But if you want to be stubborn and feel more intelligent, feel free to do so and keep a slow phone with crappy battery
My not so scientific opinion but still pretty nice observation is that as soon as the runtime reaches 4-5 days then the phone will be in such a state slow state because of the way Android 5.0 handles processing management. A quick is pretty much a reset and it only takes you a minute and its good again.
I've flashed a different 251 Rom since I got this phone because of issues like this. Now I'm problem free it's like a different phone. Also why not change the governor?
What are you talking about? Why should I reset my phone when there is no backup! If reset is the only way to solve the problem, then it means there is no way to solve it.
The phone meant to be used. One couldn't just keep it reset as new, which doesn't make any sense. It must run smooth and sound with your apps and data together, or we can come to a CONCLUSION that there are flaws in the OS or the device design.

if you have this problem reset it .your problem will be fixed .its a one time thing.if after its still the same then maybe your device is faulty.

back up everything on your PC or SD card, pen drive etc. and do a factory reset. He said its only one time only. don't have to keep resetting your phone. do it once time only and happy days.
and if you get same problem again after factory reset that means your device is faulty.
Did a factory reset and a repair in pc companion after and it didn't got better... I'll try another reset and report back...
Thanks people
Well my phone feel so un-snappy, and I'm thinking if a factory reset or reflash from a new rom-file wil l help much?
I don't remember how it was when it was new.
A few years ago you basically just had to do this every few months if you wanted a snappy phone. But I have no idea if matters in 2021?
Reinstalling and setting all up again would probably take several hours for me, time i really don't have unless I have to. So if you guys have any input beforehand it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
I do it as needed especially if a virus is suspect.
If you've uninstalled a lot of apps and/or the phone is noticably slower or unstable... it's time.
If you have a good flash, reflashing the firmware is pointless unless you wish to change that version. Just needless wear and tear on the memory cells.
