After getting two different answers from Samsung support in phone calls, they verified via Twitter message to me that the US (snapdragon) models DO NOT support dual SIM.
Apparently our eSIM is activated on the Ultra (maybe other S21-series devices as well?) but the US software won’t allow for both the nano SIM slot and the eSIM to be used at the same time.
This is really unfortunate as I’m coming back from an iPhone which I switched to solely for DSDS functionality, but I can’t stand iOS anymore.
With it likely being a software difference between the US market and international devices, does anyone here see a path forward to removing the limitation somehow?
EDIT 1/23: read conversation below. The models shipped for US market media review so far have eSIM disabled, this is contradicting the FAQ on Samsung’s website as well as communication with various support teams. If you’re looking for eSIM, continue your search elsewhere for now.
In highly doubtful the US S21 will support eSim out of the box. I have the S20 Ultra and we were also told it would have eSim, but it will be enabled in a future software update. Almost 1 year later and still nothing.
Honestly a joke considering both Google and Apple have it working for many of their devices by now. Don't understand what the problem is

Hopefully that representative is right, considering its right smack dab in the middle of US Samsung site stating it has eSim, we'll only know next week
i asked tmobile anf they said they are single sim. samsung told me the US unlocked is duasl sim, but i dont beliebve it.

I’ve had far too many conversations about it with Samsung reps at this point - different answer each time. I don’t understand why no one knows what’s going on with the new phones as they’re actively selling them

Ah. Yeah anything ending in “/DS” is gonna be dual SIM, but we don’t get those in the US.

Yup. And I’m not sure if we’ll ever find out why. Unfortunately, they’re not picky about what they train their representatives to say about our phones here. I’ve heard them say every possible SIM configuration for the same model number and it seems that no one has a confident answer.
It’s gonna be interesting when we see people unboxing their devices and finding out they were told it has something that it actually doesn’t... It’s the S20 SIM confusion all over again.

I just bought S20 FE earlier this year. They advertised that it has 4x4 LTE MIMO. After unboxing, Turns out it isn't enable for my country. Was pissed off about it. They never give a clear answer on these kinds of stuff.

Legal discussion isn’t loved on XDA, but the way I see it, Samsung is really playing with fire by doing this so much. Especially in the US.
People are becoming much more aware of their tactics surrounding the preorder advertising.
PC Magazine review confirms no eSIM for USA. Samsung disabled it.
We tested the unlocked U model, destined for the US. The U model has a single SIM slot, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, disabled e-SIM functionality, and all the appropriate bands for US 5G networks, including millimeter-wave.

Just heard from a samsung worker at best buy that we will get lollipop by the end of next week and that it should be either 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. Thats whats taking at$t so long they are trying to polish off the problems s5 users on Verizon Sprint and international phones. So my question is Verizon just got root through lollipop so is it possible that we can also????
My assumption would be that root might take a little bit longer. Unless 5.0.1/5.0.2 are very minor I would assume getting root will change slightly. Either way though good to hear, I had read somewhere about a week or two ago that samsung was working on 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 in order to iron out the bugs that they had with when they rolled out 5.0.
Good to hear. I wanted to do more for 4.4.2 though. It will be bittersweet upgrading and getting to work on it.

Looks like T-Mobile S5 is getting S5 today... AT&T is last and not sure when we get..
Shouldn't be much longer
I have the Verizon s5 and ive had 0 issues.. it seems to be hit or miss with some people.
With that being said, it did not and will not take long to root L. You will have to wait for someone to post a L rom.zip thats pre rooted, flash in SS and then odin the L kernel.
I would recommend waiting for this or for some brave sould to update ota and see if the BL is incremented or not.
For us on g900v, after taking the ota we are still able to odin down to 4.4.x and root install ss etc. but not sure if yours will.. best to play it safe and have a updated rom.zip and maintain root lol.
With that being sId, xposed doesnt work on samsung L yet and v4a and other stuff is needing a permissive kernel which im sure you guys dont have bcuz of the locked BL...

Not to burst a bubble, but I was excited too when I saw that, but then I realized that AT&T has other devices already running Lollipop. It wasn't necessarily for our Phone. On the play store when a developer uploads an app, it is not device specific. A Google script reads the file to determine what devices can run it. I presume AT&T can also restrict it to their devices through an agreement with Google.
For example I uploaded an app and it could run on 6000 devices. I made an update recently and it was reduced to 4000 devices. This was because I dropped support for Android 4.0 and below while adding support for 5.0.

which is why people dont make threads saying "Lollipop will be out by the end of the week."
The people in best buy are not Samsung employees they are most likely best buy employees certified in Samsung devices.
Many people make posts like yours and many times its not accurate.
Im sure if you call ATT (who will have more knowledge than a best buy rep) they will say there is no eta or give you a random time frame.
Samsung released a L update to carriers a while ago its up to the carrier when they push it out.

Actually, calling ATT is just as useful as any other method which is just as useful as asking the person sitting next to you on the bus.
The people working the call centers are just people. They may or may not know how to use a phone. They are just read in from scripts based on your questions and responses. When they give no ETA or just a random timeframe seems to suggest there is no script in regards to the update, leaving it up to the CSR to make something up.
I used to be married to an ATT customer service rep. I used to do phone customer service for Verizon. I can tell you with 100% certainty. There is no one you can ask who can tell you the progress or intended release of any update unless the information is release from the company.
Most companies refrain from giving software update release dates because they cannot predict the stability of said update on that date.

I am a quality rep for US Cellular.. although we dont have scripts at all, associates are not suppose to make stuff up (of course they are ppl and make this mistake daily.) Of course each company is different so sad to hear att n vzw are scripted lol.
With that being said, CSRs at my work typically wont know of a release date until after its release and if they do, we cant set the expectation with customers until its readily available information such as posted on our website because dates can change.
So the right thing for a csr to do is educate the customer and let them know it is being worked out but we do not have a set date for its release.. this helps to not set a false expectation or upsetting a customer.

What is the difference between variants? (N920T, NN920I etc)
There are many different variants released for different carriers and countries. The main difference between them are the radio bands and the pre loaded software that differs from each carrier.
Currently Samsung pay is only supported by US and Korean firmware.
If you are wandering which variant will work with your carrier http://www.willmyphonework.net/ is a good resource to use.
Most of the known variants are listed below.
SM-N9200 (China/Hong Kong)
SM-N9208 (Malasia, Taiwan)
SM-N920A (AT&T)
SM-N920C (Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam)
SM-N920I (International)
SM-N920K (Korea)
SM-N920L (Korea)
SM-N920P (Sprint)
SM-N920R (US Cellular)
SM-N920S (Korea)
SM-N920T (T-Mobile)
SM-N920V (Verizon)
SM-N920W8 (Puerto Rico)
Good idea.

I'll try to get you started:
I flashed WizBangSuperSomething and now I'm stuck in boot loops or I'm getting "FRP Lock" or something else has gone terribly wrong.
I'm a noob and not familiar enough with Norse Gods to know who Odin is.
How can I get my phone restored to stock to use it again?
Edit:
Another useful piece of information (being that I see it asked about 2-5 times each day) might be "what is the difference between the n920x and n920y" (replacing x and y with different variants.)

Added. Thanks for the tip gary.
Here's another good one. You should not drink and post.
I purchased a n920i because I thought it would give me flexibility with root, wifi tethering, and faster updates in the future. Now I'm starting to get concerned since I've learned I can't using Samsung Pay even being in the US. After to talking to some of the guys at AC, updates might actaully be slower on phones NOT from a major market. So I guess my question is, if all the phones radio works with your carrier, which model is preferable for samsung pay, root, wifi tetering, faster updates, etc?? Do any unlocked models work with Samsung Pay?

Unfortunately, Samsung pay isn't available for the n920i. If you've got the Australian version then you'll get it when it's released there. There's a discussion about that in this thread.
To your question though international models usually get the fastest updates, us models for Samsung pay. Rooting and most other mods should be the same.

Noob question regarding modem/radio flashing.
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the SM-N9208 Duos (Taiwan gsm) Note 5. I made a stupid assumption that the dual sim version would be both cdma and gsm capable. Apparently that is not the case. My questions are: does this model have both radios inside, with one being inactive? Is it possible to root the device, and flash the radio to make it cdma compatible. My understanding is the cdma vs. Gsm is a hardware issue, but I was told some manufacturers include both radios in all models. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm on Verizon, btw. When I spoke to their tech support, I was told there is no "approved" way to get the phone working on their network. He made sure to stress the approved part of the response several times, also leading me to believe it is possible.
S Pen broke and the top is stuck inside the phone.
The bottom of my spend broke off and the rest is stuck inside.
Any ideas???

I bought a note 5 (t-mobile) that was rooted, the problem is that it randomly reboots and most of the time in the middle of a call, will flashing the stock firmware fix the issue?, I was told that it will boot loop so I'm not sure if I should do it.

I know people have said you can't put firmware from different models into this phone; however, is there a way to change the way the the phone identifies itself, making the baseband flash possible? Again, I'm very new at this (clearly), but I am having a hard time believing there is no way to change the frequency that these modems can accept. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hi
i just recived the note 5, i had a note 3 (for 2 years) before, btw after two years I had to change the battery.
i am afraid because the with the note 5 you can't change battery like the note 3.
I wanted to ask, I can use my charger for note 3 (5.3 v 2.0 amps) to improve the battery life of the 5 notes?

You can use that charger but I doubt it'll improve the battery life.
If you want to keep the battery healthy don't let it discharge all the way. Try to charge it more often and keep it above 30% if you can. The less you let it discharge, the more life you'll get out of if.
The note 5 also uses a li poly battery which is supposed to be more resistant to overcharge.
In saying that all lithium batteries will start to degrade after a couple of years, it's unavoidable. How much more life you get out of it remains to be seen.
Not used to samsung came from htc and more recently oppo phones is there a way to download firmware from sammobile etc to phone and update firmware without odin or in my case heimdall
Have n920i with i think singapore firmware and would rather have the Australian firmware to match my carrier
Is there a way to complain against Samsung Pakistan because of their cancellation of Android 9 for Note 8? Yes, I asked a person working in Samsung and he confirmed me that it confirmed me that the Pie update has been delayed/cancelled for indefinite period. I couldn't believe me ears, so I checked on sammobile and ALL countries around the freaking world has gotten update for SM-N950F. Stupid Samsung Pakistan has even removed Note8 from the list of models eligible to receive the update, in their Samsung members app.
Is there a way to legally complain against them or is there a consumer court system in Pakistan?

Firstly, to answer your question: no, you can't lay a formal complaint because you didn't get an update. Samsung doesn't owe you that update. They didn't sign a contract with you, saying they will deliver it.
Now, I think whomever your friend is at Samsung that told you the update is cancelled and wherever you got the other information that it's been cancelled, are all lying to you. I haven't done any research myself, just yet, but I am perfectly certain you will be getting the update, at one point or another. And if you don't for some reason, you can just download it and flash it to your device, yourself. It won't void your warranty and it won't break anything or cause any problems. It'll be just like you've gotten the update yourself.
Also, just a side note; I'm in South Africa and I haven't gotten the update yet, either, so your statement about "ALL countries around the freaking world" is untrue. Just because you haven't gotten it yet, doesn't mean you won't be getting it. You will get it. Just be calm and patient.
Holy ****, dude.
It is just a phone update.
If you want it that bad, just flash it with Odin...
Yes!! You can ABSOLUTELY take Samsung to court! But only if you video record the look on the Judge's face when you tell him your complaint. Then you have to come back here and post it.

Now I'm also kinda worried about getting the pie update on my note 8 because in Samsung members app they have shifted note 8 to "updated" row which is something weird because I am also living in Pakistan and still waiting for the update.
Well I'm not sure about taking samsung to court based on your case because: 1) samsung doesn't have a formal agreement with users about a specific update in a specific time and 2)the current state of phones are working properly and don't effect users experience.
Of course If you are pumped enough to go this far, you already know you can easily flash pie by odin in less than 10 min.
BUT let me tell you, you are not losing any thing special. I downgraded to Oreo yesterday!
Lmao! I have avoided ALL updates to oreo like the plague!! As I am very, very satisfied with my device running 7.1.1, And somebody is trying to take Samsung to COURT for not delivering the pie update!! Lol, this is a really funny world we live in!!
Hay brother cool down. Just update to pie manually. Yes i m also from Pakistan and thing to move to pixel or nokia as samsung always sucks at software updating.
P,S i m using pie and loving it.

I'm not sure where u get your info from but sammobile has the pakistan csc pak pie rom. If you cannot wait for the ota download it from sammobile yourself and flash it via odin.
You will not trigger Knox doing this.

Will be downloading the update at night.
Hey all,
Why is there not much custom ROM activity for the s21? Used to have an s10+ and that had half dozen or more choices.
I would attempt myself if I had time but just curious.
Cheers
There is a few for exynos model
From my observations it is related to device price. More it costs, less users want to play with it.
Personally for me this is my first not rooted device in my life. Just because of one UI. It has just right amount of customization to keep me satisfied.
Also Samsung provides pretty ok software support.
To conclude - there are no good reasons to spend time on development. Only thing that comes to my mind - if you want less bloat, tracking, etc. But in such case imho Samsung is a bad choice and you should go with something else.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are various ways to get rid of some of the bloat anyway if you're too inclined to get rid of them.
Yeah I'd say mostly it's due to how highly customisable the Android OS and One UI is these days. I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my S21 Ultra but I ended up locking the bootloader and going back to stock again.
Major issues
- knox - you can't revert to lock state so no matter what happe your pricey toy is useless and not repearable
- lack of drivers - camera etc.

i re-locked my bootloader, thats all that matters and these days samsung have still repaired phones that have been rooted and had their bootloaders locked again.
Thanks everyone for your feedback.
I admit its a pricey phone which is why I've been put off doing it, I've nearly always installed custom roms mainly for root access and customisation options.
I manage stock unrooted to block ads using AdGuard which does a really good job, and use nova launcher for customisation which sort of keeps me happy, along with working Google pay and bank app and the s21 ultra is pretty customisable.
Root used to be good to backup using titanium.

I can bet it was the case. We're talking about humans. I work with several repair companies, to provide warranty for the products i sell from different brands. And you know, people are always being hired everywhere. There's always that new guy that messed up and didn't follow the protocol.
I guess you need to be lucky to get your phone in the hands of the new guy

This is something that I can agree in 100%, in UK samsung does not fix their phones, they have few comapnies who does that for them, and those companies check knox status, why? Becuase they will not get money back from Samsungfor fixing a phone that was nod under warranty - simple.
If someone mad a mistake, forgot etc to check it I get it but spreading false info is not good for anyone.

Well at the risk of exposing your lack of proficiency with the English language, I will add that being covered under warranty is totally different to having the device repaired by Samsung. The word warranty was never used by myself, and in fact was never used by you either.

Oh so now my English is not ok, nice. I didn't mentioned about warranty as it was obvious, at least for others... You can always pay for repair, even if you intentionaly hit it with a hammer and this is common knowledge. You didn't say that you paid for repair either.

Hello everyone,
I've just recently joined XDA Developers to get a question answered and to potentially get into rooting later on, I couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere else and so made a thread.
Verizon is my carrier, and I would like to be able to use 5G and 4G within the United States. Is the Chinese NE2210 version of the phone able to do this from stock? Additionally, is there any way that I can remove any trace of the phone being intended for sale in China by changing the language to English across the entire US and removing Chinese apps?

This is about as helpful as posting a LMGTFY link. You searched for and apparently found threads that were relevant, I didn't find anything that was relevant specifically pertaining to this phone and Verizon.
Telling me to look for things that you found is frustrating, because it would have taken you 15 seconds to link the things that you found and do me and whoever views this thread in the future a solid. But instead, you tell me to search, because I definitely didn't search my question online or on the forum before going to the trouble of making an account just to ask this question... Why wouldn't that be the very first thing I do?
The Chinese model lacks band 13 and thus is not whitelisted for Verizon. You can SIM swap to get it to work but it won't be a great experience.
Verizon uses 2, 4, 5, 13, 46, 48, and 66 for LTE and n2, n5, n66, n77, n260, and n261.
Of these, the NE2210 supports 2, 4, 5 for LTE and 0 5G bands, making the NE2210 a very poor choice for Verizon all the way around.

Thank you for the helpful reply. Luckily, I managed to get the order cancelled and will choose a phone designed for use in the US instead. Since those tend to be out of my price range for the 10 Pro, I was planning on probably waiting for the Nothing phone (1).

The issue here is that the OP's question as related to Verizon has not been answered in this subforum before. I did a search myself last night only found 5 posts that even mentioned Verizon, two that were in this very thread, but none about the specific question being asked.

Glad that I was able to help you before you got stuck with an incompatible phone. Generally speaking, it's always best to get the global version, because with the carriers shutting down 3G they are all getting stricter about what phones can and can't be used on their networks.

English isn't his first language, you didn't state you'd searched, a lot of people don't.
If indeed you are new, maybe best to leave the attitude at the door.
In regards to your question..assuming you're in the US, get the US friendly phone. Don't try to save money on the chinese version, you'll regret it later.
The bands for the Chinese phone and what Verizon support are publicly available.
@EtherealRemnant has kindly showed these for you.
In short just avoid the Chinese model is just not worth the money you'd save even if it did work as expected.
