Hardware bluetooth trigger - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hi,
I am looking for the hint.
I plan to make a light switch, and I would like to know if there is some device on aliexpress, that I can buy, that simply sends signal/trigger to my phone when the device is touched/clicked.
Is there any type of this device?
Theory behind:
Click the device -> sends trigger to tasker (unlocked phone) -> runs task turning my lights on/off (toggle). The goal is to have the trigger run by external device, because my default light switch is in the uncomfortable position, and this new device would be a substitution.

Perhaps Solution for BT suspend in WM 2005

I am trying screenguard at the moment to see if this works.
With this you can lock your buttons and blackout your screen while keeping the device active therefore the BT stays on.
Like with normal mobile phones.
I think this could be a solution until a real OS solution is found.
http://www.pocketmax.net/screenGuard.htm
Hope this helps.
But even if you have charged the phone at night, won't this eat the battery for lunch, if not for breakfast?
No, not a solution.
Battery died within 8 hours.
So still no solution.
I think MortSaver is a beter solution.
MortSaver is a combination of screensaver, keylock, and a "stay off!" function.
Screensaver: The display's turned off, but the PPC keeps running (e.g. for audio players). In spite to other tools, MortSaver turns off the dispay again if it's been switched on by e.g. an alert or the on/off button.
Keylock: All buttons (except the one necessary for deactivation, of course) are locked, as far as it's possible to me. A few programs sadly use some undocumented tricks, which allows them to get the button presses even if they're assigned to MortSaver in the system, or set themselfes as topmost window, by which the direction pad keys will be sent to this window. Disabling MortSaver can be done either with one button or a sequence of two buttons.
"Stay off!": PocketPCs are often switched on by themselves or accidentally - by alerts (appointments, SMS, ...) or accidental button presses in your pocket. In those cases, MortSaver can turn off the device again after a selectable timespan (so you recognize MortSaver's active and the device alive).
After power on or system-caused disabling of the screensaver, MortSaver shows a countdown until the screen or device (depending on settings, also see instructions), the button(s) to deactivate it, the time, battery level, a user definable text (e.g. owner infos), and on Phone Edition devices also signal strength and hints about missed calls and SMS.
MortSaver is Freeware.

[SOLVED] Backlight doesn't turn off when using TomTom...?

TomTom v7.450
Diamond ROM v1.37.405.1 WWE
Can anyone else confirm that their backlight never turns off whilst using TomTom, regardless of what setting/timeout they've got on the device's Power config page? Whether I'm using it on battery or mains the result is the same - backlight remains on continuously. If I shut TomTom down I then see normal behaviour and the light turns off after the set time.
Interestingly, if I install the very same TomTom CAB on my M600/Prophet it behaves correctly i.e. the backlight turns off after a time. The device remains continuously on, regardless of setting, but then that's what I'd hope for anyway as TomTom is no use if the device is not active.
Given the above, has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be the case, and what I might be able to do to solve it? I really want the backlight to dim as it will save a considerable amount of battery should I be using TomTom on battery... and it would automatically turn it back on when it comes to advised turns etc.
Incidentally, the backlight does dim/brighten in response to changes in the ambient light level so that's at least something - however I tried removing this setting in case that was the problem but it wasn't.
Mathew
I also use TOM TOM on my Diamond..and I think that is normal that the backlight is on when using the navigato..also if you use the Stand Alone navigator the back ligt stays on!
I can't see the use of the navigator with the device in standby..you should buy a car charger so your battery recharge during the utilization of navigator

I have a question, can this problem co-exist with the problem of backlight turning off too fast when making a call, or do these two problems cancel each other ?

this is a feature (and a good one) and not a bug. i bet you don't want that when driving, right before a big intersection yr screen go off....
for example, the igo (that's what i am using) give you the option to go by the device or all time on.

If it was a feature I would expect it to manifest itself when installed on both the Diamond and the Prophet (given the common application) - the fact it doesn't suggests to me it is a 'quirk' (not necessarilly a bug) with the way it works on the Diamond. As mentioned, the backlight used to come back on when being advised of any directions etc and would remain until well clear of a junction so if it is a feature it's an unnecessary one!
Sometimes it is not convenient for me to use external power - when riding on my bike for example. And in such circumstances the high ambient light level used to be plenty sufficient for me to see the screen on the Prophet without the backlight being on - this is obviously great for conserving battery power as the light ranks as one of the highest power consumers.
I might see if the TomTom menu is still customisable and, if so, include the 'Backlight Preferences' icon that was present in versions of Navigator prior to v6.

interesting! didn't know that...doesn't bother the on\off of the screen while navigating in town (lots of instructions)? not sure i'll want all this flickering
Solved it!
In fairness, it seems that it is a TomTom quirk.
Specifically, the application has always (since I've been using it from v5) had a built-in setting for when to turn the backlight the backlight off (or, more accurately, when to allow the device to turn it off in accordance with your time setting) - the options being: 'Always', 'When on a walking route', 'When not charging' or 'Never'. The default being 'Never'.
However, since v6 the button to change this setting disappeared from the menus however given it is possible to customise the TomTom menus and, even better, to include icons from previous versions of TomTom (assuming the feature is still supported internally) I did the following to turn my backlight setting to 'When not charging'...
- Create a file \TomTom\SDKRegistry\TomTom.mnu in the root of the device
- Inside this file put the following:
Code:
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_MAIN|BTM_DONE|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE1|Main Menu|
MENUITEM|TASK_EXIT_APP|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_BACKLIGHT|
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE1|
- Now run TomTom and click the main screen - up will come a menu with two items in it - Exit and Backlight Preferences, the latter will allow you to configure exactly how you want the backlight to behave.
- Quit TomTom and delete the TomTom.mnu file - this will revert you back to the stock menus, but with the backlight setting (permanently) set.
Of course, this process can be used to configure your menus exactly how you want them however I don't know the keys for all the icons - only for those when I last dabbled in v5 - maybe if I can find some time I'll find the others (I haven't Google for them so perhaps these are now common knowledge) such as the MapShare functions that only came in v7.
The reason it the backlight worked as I wanted when installing the cab on my Prophet was because it still had my menu configs from v5 installed on it... d'oh!
I could be alone in wanting to be able to choose how the backlight is managed, but just in case there's someone with the same desire hopefully this'll be some use to you. It does of course beg the obvious question - why did TomTom remove this customisable feature?!
Cheers,
Mathew
youupy! drinks on you!
congrats and yes, i knew from the beginning that i can help you. dhaaaahh. lol!
Interesting, previous versions of tomtom allowed you to adjust the backlight settings within the application.
cant find it in TT7 though

On the contrary; they've handled it handle it very well.
Say you've got your backlight timeout set to 30 seconds then after this amount of time with no activity (direction instructions etc) it will turn the backlight off - you can still see the map outline in ambient light and, most importantly, can easily see the distance indicator to the next direction.
A few seconds prior to the next instruction the light will reilluminate, a few seconds later it will give the direction advice/distance etc and then once you're through the junction it will turn the light off again after 30 seconds.
Of course, when following a rapid series of instructions in, say, a built-up area then the backlight will stay on continuously - each instruction essentially resets the timer. It's only when out on the 'open road' with no isntructions for miles that you'd see the effect.
All said and done, when I've got access to external power I keep the backlight on constantly (that's where the 'Extinguish only when not charging' option comes in) but when I'm running on batteries I need all the power-saving I can get, not least given the limit battery capacity in the Diamond!

As mentioned they dropped the icon in v6 yet still supported the functionality internally - it's just that with no icon you can't change the setting hence the temporary icon-insertion method discussed above.

How to stay locked while bluetooth handsfree connected?

Is it possible to tell the Diamond to stay locked with the screen off until unlocked manually while a handsfree is connected? I keep my phone in my pocket while driving and it unlocks itself when a call is in progress and then locks itself again, when the call finishes. But if anything is pressed, and it does if I even move a centimetre, it won't lock back again and will in most cases call back the person I've just had a conversation with.
Is there a setting I'm missing or would an application have to be used?

Use TouchLockPro
I have the same need and tried plenty of solutions, no good so far.
One of them was actually an early version of TouchLockPro, however it lacked an important functionality of treating locking as a mode. It has a "lock on incoming call" feature, but that's not what I need because most of the time my phone is on the desk and shouldn't lock on every incoming call. What I need (and I guess IceBone is with me on that) is just a way to make sure that when the phone is locked - it just stays this way till instructed otherwise...

TouchLockPro can be tuned to your needs, just disable autolockonpoweron and you are in control...
I will check it out.
EDIT: Sorry, but that's completely useless to me. There's a thousand other options that I had to disable, it didn't unlock itself with the power button, it also didn't stay locked on incoming call, even though I double checked I had that enabled, it also puts an annoying white square in the windows status bar, which covers the clock.
All I want is for the phone to stay locked on incoming and outgoing calls. If it can be set to only stay locked only while a handsfree set is connected (the phone does know the difference, it shows a nice little headset icon), it would be perfect.
This is the biggest issue with my TD...
Because of this issue BT headset is totaly useless (if device in your pocket or case).. After incoming or outgoing call need to check device for unwanted actions..
Well, if we get more people requesting this, maybe one of the devs could cook up a quick fix.

The white square is the inidcator that it is locked. The configured foreground and background color are reversed when locked.
I will put a convenience setting (Bluetooth) in the action screen on the wish list, so it will never unlock/lock when that mode is activated by te other unlocking methods. But there must also be way to unlock then. Maybe the Stylus still unlocks, so you can disable Bluetooth mode?

Could you possibly release a cab that does only that? It would be perfect, it's the only functionality I want.

You can use StylusLock, which makes it possible to lock/unlock only using the stylus sensor. This can be used in combination with Bluetooth.
Also TouchLockPro can be used in combination with Bluetooth, but then you need to change more settings, but this is easy too, via the TouchLockAction settings screens:
- Light Sensor: Uncheck "Use Light Sensor"
- G Sensor: Uncheck "Use G Sensor"
- Nav Sensor: Uncheck "Use Capacitive Nav Sensor"
- TAPI: Uncheck "Use TAPI"
- Other Settings: Uncheck "AutoLockOnPowerOn"
Thereafter you can lock the phone by taking the Stylus Out and putting back in within 1 second and use Bluetooth for picking up the phone. If you take out the Stylus, it will also unlock.
But I would still have to take the stylus out if someone called and I wasn't connected to the bluetooth. Or is only the screen locked?

With the settings I gave, you are in control of locking. So if you did not lock the phone via the Stylus Out/In, it will not be locked, also when a call comes in or you power on (or external event) the phone.
From your response, I understood you only wanted locking with Bluetooth:

But of course, you can also use the capacitive touch area for unlocking and configure power on also as a locking means.
Other Settings: Check "AutoLockOnPowerOn"
Nav Sensor: Check "Use Capacitive Nav Sensor"
In the Nav Sensor screen you can fine tune your capacitive unlocking methods.....
Yes, the only thing I want is for it to stay locked until I unlock it manually when BT is connected.

Hmm i have the same problem , this sound very interesting. I did tried everything too. Nothing yet. The only solution is that "ZuinigeRijder" will find a fix or an addon. That would be really helpfull !!

It would still require me to fiddle with it when I connect or disconnect. I've been thinking and the light sensor could also be used, lock the screen/keys permanently when in the dark (pocket) and switch to normal when out. I suspect your program can do that as well, but it's just too fiddly with all the other unneeded options. Can't you delete a few lines and make just a simple locker like that? Wouldn't even need to have a status icon like it does now.

Tasker anyone?

I know Tasker has been around for a while and a lot of people swear by it. I downloaded the 7-day trial and am trying it out, seems pretty powerful but also pretty complex. Wondering if people are using it and what for?
These are the simple things I use Tasker for:
- Lower sound volume at night and bring it back at morning.
- Enable vibration when I set an high ringer volume and disable when I lower it.
- Hourly chime (voice announcement).
- Pop-up GPS settings when I launch Maps.
- Play a reminder sound every three minutes when there are missed calls, SMS or mails.
these are the things I use it for:
-turn on nfc when I use the google wallet app/ and turn it off when i exit the app
- turn on gps when I open the maps app/ and turn it off when i exit the app
-turn on mobile hotspot when i enter the car and it connects to my car's bluetooth/ turns it off when disconnected from the car's bluetooth
limitless possibilities.
@Giocarro How do you make a "GPS pop-up"? I have Tasker set to just automatically turn on GPS when I open maps... but I think a popup is better bc sometimes I'm just searching for a location so I don't need it to automatically turn on location every time I enter maps.
@lilvanmuzz How did you set up the last one with turning on bluetooth automatically and turning it off automatically when entering/exiting your car's bluetooth?!
Thanks guys

Application -> Maps -> Taskname -> Settings -> Locations settings.
In bluetooth, click the invert as a exit task. That means, that when bluetooths gets disconnected. Then you just chose what it should do and you of course choose turn BT off.
You can even choose a name, so it only turn off when you DC from car BT and not all BT devices.

Thanks for these! Definitely some great ideas. Just wondering, what is DND? Also, I'm trying to set up a profile for when I use my wireless charger in my car (as opposed to my other wireless charger)... This may be better suited to ask in a Tasker forum, but I'll give it a shot here. So my phone is oriented vertically in my car charger vs. flat on the other charger. Is there a way to only trigger the profile when it's charging wirelessly in a vertical position?

Yes it can, by emulating manual input using the tasker plugin AutoInput. Did it myself on the S6 before root was available.
Just wanted to write an update on my experience with Tasker over the last few weeks... Wow! What an amazing application. You are only limited by your imagination, or, more so, just the ability to figure out exactly how to make it do what you want. I have profiles to turn off my wifi when the screen is off, also night profiles to dim the screen/silence notifications, etc. Those are all common easy things to set up. Then I really got into it - set up a profile that triggers when I tap my nfc keychain to enter car mode. I have a wireless charging dock in my car, and when I get texts they are read aloud to me, and then I'm asked if I want to respond. If I say yes, I then speak my message. My message is read back to me and I'm asked if I want to send or edit. This is a great, truly hands free way of using your phone (especially with new or already existing laws regarding use of phones in cars). I also just set it up (using the autovoice, autolaunch and autoinput plugins) to control the Sonos system in my house. I can say "Play Sonos in the kitchen," or the patio, or the family room, and it will automatically do it. I could also place nfc tags in those rooms to trigger the same tasks as well. Are all these things "necessary"? Maybe not, but for me the coolness factor is off the chart. [emoji2]

The coolness factor of Tasker and what you can do is wayyyy beyond off the charts!!
A bit late to the party but here goes:
- toggle autorotate if I shake the phone left-right
- if connected to car bluetooth, set variable %CarMode to 1, which I then use in other profiles. On exit (bluetooth disconnect) set %CarMode to 0
- if text message received and %CarMode is 1, read the text aloud (read texts aloud while driving)
- monitor Llama notification to see what location I'm in (based on Cell towers). I think Llama is more accurate and easier to use then Tasker for cell towers and volume profiles
- If leaving Llama location "Work", during the week, after 4pm, send my wife a text to say I'm leaving work. Randomize the content of that text from a list, so it doesn't ever seem automated to her
- log my work hours onto a Google Drive spreadsheet automatically by using the Llama location
- Perform a weekly reboot, on Sundays at 5am. I just think it's good to do every now and again
- Last gasp alert - If my battery level reaches 2%, get a GPS fix and send the location to my tablet. That way if I've misplaced the phone and it runs out of battery, I'll know where it is
- At night, enable Lux plugin, which removes blue light from the screen to help you fall asleep quicker if you're like me and insist on playing on phone at night. Disable in the morning. I do this because I think it uses battery during the day otherwise
- if headset plugged in, show a custom scene I created to choose my music/listening app
- watch Chrome notification for one that says I'm in incognito mode. Put the phone on silent mode if that happens....for browsing stuff......
- If my battery has dropped more than 15% in the last hour, alert me. This helps me spot crappy apps that are sucking my power
- turn my phone onto silent if I turn the phone off, to disable the annoying boot animation sound
- if I use the camera app, turn the phone onto silent, to prevent shutter sound
- a custom clipboard manager that stores the last 5 things I copied, let's me choose any of them when I want to paste something
- If I copy something on my laptop, send it to my phone
- watch the latest USd-GBP exchange rate, watch the latest stock price for some stock I own. Work out my GBP stock value and tell me daily how much they're worth and if I've made/lost money

Nice list btw. Wondering why you don't just delete the boot sounds as opposed to making an extra task to silence your phone on shut down. I'm assuming if you have this many tasks, you must be rooted, but maybe not?

Question I have a few things (UI/automation) I'd like to change and would like some help

My old thread was about pre-sale questions but now I have the phone and things got a bit messy and disorganized so I'm hoping to make it simpler and cleaner here.
If root is required for any of these, please specify... because I'm considering not rooting this phone.
1. Is there anything like CarrierIQ I need to remove?
2. Is there a way to customize the recent apps that appear at the bottom of the screen when I open the app drawer?
3. Is there a way to stop the phone from requiring pin/pass/print/face/etc when paired with a specific device? For example, while phone is paired with car I can double tap the screen at any time to unlock it without any kind of authentication needed. I had this on my last phone and loved it.
4. Is there a way, in general, to make it so if I double tap or press the side button to turn the screen off, it won't lock right away. For example, I tap the side button to turn screen off and 15 seconds later I don't have to authenticate at all to access phone. If I would have waited 31 seconds or longer, I would have to authenticate again. I also had this on my last phone.
5. Is there a way to instead of having icon and/or percentage for battery to have a number inside of a circle (preferably a dashed circle), where the circle also represents the corresponding percentage?
6. Is there a way to make a press of the home button in the center bottom of the screen do a full drag down of the upper menu....allowing me to toggle all of my quick toggles?
Thanks!
3. Yes, either use smart lock or set up a Bixby routine to keep phone unlocked device when connected to Bluetooth device (also works for WiFi)

Wow, I never saw that anywhere and I went through all the options. Now I searched for it and it's there. That's exactly what I wanted. I was using that on my old phone (Smart Lock). Thank you.
I also found the setting for automatic locking when screen turns off as well as disabling the "suggested apps".
