So.. asking anyone who has the official Samsung s-view case with pen holder.
Is it worth it?
89.99 is a bit steep for a case in my opinion.
not just a case, i believe it also comes with the spen. i have the back cover case, comes with spen.
Thanks but not really my question.
1) What is the point of the s-pen?
2) How well does the s-view functions of the case work?
89.99 US is a high price for a case with a stylus.
what is the point of spen?
what is the point of galaxy note series then.
what is the point of getting a case with spen slot if you not going to use the spen.
No idea. Never used a note before.

The S Pen is the official stylus of Samsung devices. It'll give you a great stylus experience if that's your thing. If you don't need it, or don't think you want it? Just opt for the S View case without the pen.

Thanks for more of an answer. I've never used a note device before nor have I ever used an android device with a stylus. What are its uses I really don't understand what its intended purposes is.

It can be used in a variety of ways. The most common is for drawing or taking notes. Some also use it as more of a dedicated "mouse" instead of their fingers to move through the device and browse webpages.
I understand now that makes sense thank you

Has anyone tried a stylus pen on the SGT? Was thinking about getting the DAGi stylus for my tab but before I did I wanted to know if anyone had any advice to give based on past experiences.

Boxwave!
I picked up a black Boxwave IPad 'Styra' (pen one end and stylus the other). I find it very accurate. Also tried a Pogo but found it pretty poor (too squishy and kind of fuzzy tip). If you search forvreviews youwill find heaps. All I need now is a decent handwriting recognition app. Tried several in the market and not impressed.
hey buddy i ordered a Dagi, ill recieve it in about a week. i liked the perciseness of it. so ill keep u posted how it is once i get it
Get the red dot pen by HTC. That's what I recommend, anyway. It's extremely precise. Just search google for "red dot stylus htc".
Anyone knows whether there is any palm rejection supported software out there for note taking on the tab? been seeing that the hardware supports it, but i dont think there is any good software to utilize it yet..
What like how the htc flyer notes app works? That uses specilist hardware so it wont work on the tab
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Hi all HTC did NOT make the pen for the flyer it was n-trig take a look at there web site just Google n-trig
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
The screen for GT is supplied by Atmel and through web there was an interview with Atmel's product marketing Binay Bajaj saying
"There's something called "palm rejection." We support that. And unintended touches, which you can reject. We call it "grip," touching the screen from the side. We have something called "grip suppression." In spite of the grip, you can still use the device."
So I was hoping that the hardware for GT already supports it, but there is no software out in the market utilizing this feature yet.. unless I missed it. And yes, flyer's digitizer is supplied by n-trig and thats a different matter.

so the palm rejection isn't just automatic on the tab at all times? it has to be supported in specific apps?
that woudl suck if that's true. I figured it was just like that all the time.
either way we need some useful handwriting or other custom writing (jot?) style apps for the tab/android. otherwise a stylus is sort of an inconvenient gimmick, isn't it?
is it all the same type of stylus head in the market? from the after market product of stylus? i tried once but it feels of lag of motion, this an eraser head type (flat on the surface)
I got the "just mobile AluPen". Rounded eraser head type, but glides very easily. I got it for highlighting in PDFs.
Works quite ok. But not as well as my finger!
When you use it for Swype, the trace on the letters looks okay, but the recognition is way worse than with the finger. And you have to press a bit to get a good trace.
Stopped using it.
I got targus tablet stylus pen for 11€ including shipping.
It works okay, but its not as useful as I thought, finger is still working better, one has to press to hard and capacititve styluses aren't accurate enough.

sure they are, but even used a phone in -10°C?
Finger becomes useless when wet in rain or due to sweat hence we need a stylus as a backup in those extreme conditions.

Capacitive screens are rubbish at low temps, question: do styluses work with gloves on or do they need direct contact with the skin as a current path?

If you have capacitive stylus then they work with gloves you don't need direct skin contact.

I have a Note 2 on order from Verizon and will be using it mostly for work and meetings. I would like to get a larger pen that I can keep in my shirt pocket. Any word if there is going to be a pen kit similar to the one for the first Note? It also seems that some of Wacom's other products may work with the Note 2, any suggestions on a larger pen that would work? Thanks!
I bought this pen from Samsung. It's the same size as most regular size pens. Works great with the Note 2.

There is a 50% off coupon that's one of the other threads that works with this item too. Not sure if any of the Wacom pens work.

I have the same one as the poster above. At work I use my phone as a note pad all the time. There are two other options but this one has the thinnest barrel size and even has an eraser. On another thread we've found that no Wacom tablet pen works but there are other tablet stylus' that do.
Once again the poster above has it right with the 50% coupon, hell if you have the money buy both. From what I understand the technology didn't really change just the size of the s pens.

The S-pen kit for the Note 1 can be used on the Note 2. I've used it from day one as I find the S-pen uncomfortable to use in its native form.

Did the pen fit well since I thought the dimension for the Note2 Spen was slightly larger? I'm interested in the kit myself.

The Stylus in the pen kit won't fit into the Note 2 . I just wanted a more comfortable pen to use, hence I purchased the pen kit for my Note1 which I also use for my Note2.
Does anyone know if there is an S-pen replacement that can double as an actual ink pen that you can write on physical paper?
I would imagine you turn the pen to change the tip to a ball point pen.
-Wizzle
That would be pretty amazing!
I know. I would always have a ball point pen when I actually needed it!
I hope this even exists!

Some Wacom pens work with the note 2 and some of them have ink pens on the opposite end of the digitizer nib.
I'm looking for the same thing. I once had an hold Compaq/HP 2215 PDA that had this, I'm kind of shocked I can't find one for the Note 2.
This is the closest I've found:

That doesn't have the s-pen nib it has just the capacitive tip and so it is not as accurate as the s-pen and won't use the Note 2's digitizer.
That would be cool, I used to have one on my old sony ericsson P800/P900/P910 series smartphones it was an aftermarket one that fitted the phone exactly and has a small cover over the ball point, I dont use pens much, but if you need one your pretty much stuck without one

Any update on the ink pen?
idk if I'm the only person whose had this problem. The Note8's Spen is thinner than previous model SPens, and I broke 3 (2 Samsung brand, one AWinner brand) between my fingers during normal use within the first 4 or 5 months of buying my Note 8.
I gave up after the 3rd one, but miss the pen sometimes.
Does anyone know of a sturdier 3rd party offering?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
thx
I don't see how you can break your S-Pen as I find the S-Pen on the Note 8 to be quite sturdy.
I think that Spens are sufficiently strong and durable, only tip may ware out (after very intensive use) but those can be replaced...
Replacement S-pens will be cheapest option and the only option to fit in the phone.
There are third party - wacom compatible - pens available, e.g. from Bamboo, that will work with your Note 8 and may be stronger.

Third party substitue
Staedtler Noris Digital
Get this if u r looking for a sturdier option... Of course you won't be able to keep it inside the phone.... But should be the best option available.....

I tend to disagree. I also own a Steadler Norris Digital. I find it quite fragile, mainly due to it's length. While it may not break during active use, I think it is vulnerable during transport/storage. Also the Steadler Norris lacks a button , which prevents use of functionalities in some apps (like activation of air command). It is a very nice replacement stylus though for specific purposes, I agree to that, but for me only for drawing on my larger Samsung Notebook 9 Pro.
Basically all S-pens are compatible between the Note series, and Samsung also has offered alternatives:
The full size pen for the Note 10.1 may be an option:
https://www.google.nl/url?sa=i&sour...ZXj_qC79Xn&ust=1540924536466923&ictx=3&uact=3
Samsung also has a stylus that holds a Note 1 S-pen, which I also own, and is quite sturdy as well:
https://www.google.nl/url?sa=i&sour...ZXj_qC79Xn&ust=1540924536466923&ictx=3&uact=3
Not sure whether the Samsung pens linked above are easy to buy...

I have that one since long time. I bought it when I owned a Note 2. Works flawlessly with all samsung Notes I have/had (Note 2, Note 4, Note 5, Note 10.1, Note 8, Notebook 9 Pro).
Holds much better than small S-pen from phone. Button is also easier to use. The stylus holder can only accommodate the Note 1 S-Pen - it was included with holder.
Althouth sensitivity of the S-pen has supposedly improved over the note series, when using the holder with enclosed Note 1 S-pen with Note 8 I do not notice the limited pressure sensitivity of that old S-Pen compared to the Note 8's own S-pen.
You may find the holder on ebay or other site...

I don't have pics but they all just broke in half. not much to see
S Pen from Note10+ fits and works, and more S Pen is newer version made from one plastic part instead of two pars on original Note 8, and much harder to break The downside - it's shorter, so to press push button you need to use little finger nail
Can anyone recommend S8+ cases that allow for S-Pen charging?
I'm upgrading from a Tab S4 to an 8+. Most cases I see don't appear to allow the s-pen's to charge.
If you don't charge on the back, are there other ways to charge the s-pen?
Thanks,
Joe

I just use the official one for the Tab S7+, S7 FE, S8+, etc. It has a little hill towards the top of it that holds the S-Pen in place where it charges. It's a little up there in terms of price, but it's exactly what you're describing.
There is this keyboard one that has flap for back part, that let's you open it to put or remove s-pen from charging spot. Right now there is no other location to charge s-pen, only the back side.

I would say that almost every third-party case allow to charge s-pen due to it has a hole where you can put s-pen for charging it using the table. Don't remember a case which didn't have such hole (I had s4, s6, s7+ before and s8u now).
Thanks all. I've ordered one of the cheaper covers on Amazon to start with. Are the expensive Samsung covers really worth the cost? I have a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard I used with my Tab S4 -- is the keyboard cover really worth so much money?

I would generally say no, not worth that much money. The biggest reason I have one is they were "free" with pre-order. They could be worse, but they could be better. I'm pretty picky about keyboards, and even pickier about "mice" as I've preferred Logitech trackballs for about 26-27 years.
But the convenience of the built-in keyboard and trackball are nice in a pinch.
I see. Thanks again for your thoughts.

I would say no. I had a lot of different third party cases and in some reasons they are better than the original one. Personally I would recommend Mokocase's case for tab series - good quality and not so expensive.
Note: Mokocase doesn't appear to make a Tab S8 (any model) case yet. It looks like at least some of its Tab S7 cases will fit some of the S8 models, although definitely not the Ultra.
