Hi, all.
I was finally able to get fastboot unlock on my XZ1 Compact. Took forever to get the right drivers installed and for the device to recognize. Now I can't get it to show up when I plug in for Flashtool (fka EMMA). Any advice on exactly which driver I should be using to get EMMA to recognize the device? I just need to reflash the original XZ1c firmware and I cannot get this to recognize the device at all.

The problem is that I can't get the phone to connect to my PC in Flash Mode. I've checked my drivers and it connects as 'Sony sa0117 ADB interface driver.' That works for Fastboot mode but not flash mode. So I can't flash any software to it either using Newflasher (which gives me an error message every time) or EMMA. I have no idea why my phone won't go into Fastboot mode. When I hold power down and plug it in it never gets the blue light only a green charging indicator.

Holding volume down while plugging in USB is the proper step. If you're using Newflasher, you want the the LED to be a solid green, not blue. Holding volume up while plugging in will give you the blue light but that's not how you use Newflasher.
Just to clarify: volume up + usb cable = Blue LED(Fastboot mode)
volume down + usb cable = Green LED(Flash mode)
Make sure you have the firmware files extracted to the same folder you have Newflasher in but delete .ta files(except the one in the boot folder). Run newflasher.exe, not fastboot. It'll ask you two questions. The first is for the gordon gate drivers which might solve your problem. The second is to dump the trim area which you don't need to do.

Hi guys, got a slight problem with entering fastboot mode. I hold the volume-up key and connect me USB cable but rather than getting the noise verifying it's been connected ok, I get that dull sound it makes when it hasn't worked. It won't even let me install the drivers and in device manager it comes up as "S1boot Fastboot" for a few seconds before then going into battery charging mode. I downloaded the Android SDK latest and replaced the USB driver INF file with the one sony give you but it didn't work so reversed back to the other driver the SDK manager installs and that didn't work either.
I've been through the tutorials and even tried to update the driver in device manager in the few seconds it stays there but that didn't work either! USB debugging is enabled too!
Please help, I'm not a noob and have done fastboot booting before and yes for those who may ask have already checked to make sure the bootloader can be unlocked and yes it can also the phone is NOT branded and is unlocked to all networks.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!
Dave.
Are you on Windows 8? Using USB 3.0?
"As your flesh bears the sigil....your name is that....of a recusant."
First be sure you're using a 2.0 usb port, if this is ok maybe it's a windows 8 driver problem, so you should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170114. It works for me
For also fastboot and flashmode come for 5 Sec. So Make sure you prepare the file and attach the device to fastboot or flashmode when it is asked.
Still problems
I'm still working on a 2012 laptop with Windows 7 Premium installed. It's fully up to date and all the drivers are installed properly I just don't get it, I've tried everything and it's still making the noise as if it won't connect. I don't know what to do to be honest. Also yes it is USB 2.0.

I have a similar problem. the power light lights up blue then passes into the phone starts loading mode
Sorry for bad English
The updated version (09.14) don't work properly. It doesn't enable me to go to Flashmode. Uninstalled and used the previous version and it worked as it should, no issues entering Flashmode.
i might have actually found the solution. im on the 4.3fw build version 12.1.a.1.201... in my case, my pc will automatically install the drivers for mass storage giving me no chance to update the driver to the one from sony.
you need to do step 9. and 10. if you havent done so from http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
what i did was allow developer settings and allow debugging via usb.
plug in and attempt to go in to fastboot and obviously it'll fail.
go to device manager. (control panel->hardware and sound->device manager) quickly scroll down go to other devices. you will see s1fastboot (or something like that) if you're quick enough, if not, in my case, the phone will go in to charging mode.
what i did was to disable xperia sp mass storage from disk drives category too.
right click on it and select update driver software and you will select the file you've unzipped (following step 9 and 10 sony's instructions).
after it has finished updating, unplug your usb and attempt to enter fastboot, it should work.
PS: im no expert, this solution might be out there somewhere already or it could just be a great coincidence. some of these steps might not be useful even.
Had this problem and found a funny solution: I switched my cable and the port I was using. Both Ubuntu and Windoze 7 failed on both fastboot and flash mode, even though in both the phone would charge. I grabbed a spare micro USB cable and plugged it into the front of the PC; voila. Now the phone is rooted and running the latest CM.
Need a final solution for this problem
I don't know what to do!!! The problem is this, very similar to the others mentioned above,: When i conect my xperia sp to fastboot mode, pressing volume up while plugging in usb cable, the phone led turns to blue for few seconds and than it just turns to red showing on the screen the battery image( normal charging mode)...... I' m using windows xp and a rooted xperia sp whit cm11 (for locked bootloader obviously). Just two last things:
the phone can be unlocked( I checked it) and fastboot worked the same as now with stock xperia sp firmware.
Please i need a final and a certain solution for this problem!!!
i'll be very thankful to anyone who give me a hand!!!!

Are you trying to unlock your phone?
Have you installed device specific/fastboot/flashmode drivers via FlashTool? If you are on Windows 8/8.1, you need to disable driver verification to get it done.
Alternatively if you just wanna unlock your bootloader, you can use the BLU option in FlashTool. Again all drivers will need to be properly installed for your phone to be detected correctly.
You say you had the same problem with stock firmware which means you probably haven't setup adb/fastboot properly on your PC. Does your phone get detected correctly in Device Manager? Have you tried installing drivers via Device Manager?
....
So the solution is installing flashtool and installato drivers via Emma?? Thanks forma the attention!!

I meant install drivers via FlashTool. Go to C:\Flashtool\drivers or wherever you have installed Flashtool and run the Flashtool-drivers.exe.
Select flashmode drivers, fastboot drivers and common drivers viskan board (SP drivers) and install them. Like I said if you are on Win 8/8.1, you will have to disable driver signature enforcement. Just look it up in YouTube and follow a tutorial.
I have a Xperia SP model C5306 on Fido in Canada that I cannot for the life of me get into fastboot mode. The phone is carrier unlocked (by unlockthatphone) and I've verified it on another carrier. I have also rooted the phone with the doomlord exploit successfully.
When I hold the volume up button and plug the device into my Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC the LED goes red for a second then orange once the battery charging icon appears.
The phone seems to have no problem getting into flash mode but fastboot is a no-go.
To get into fastboot you need an UNLOCKED bootloader, it is not the same thing as a SIM unlocked phone.

I have the drivers on my PC, I downloaded the ones from Sony and replaced them in the SDK folder. I haven't got to the point where my computer asks me to install the drivers. I'll try this.

So when I hold down the volume up button and connect my phone to the PC via USB I see a green LED (fully charged) on the device and my device manager tells me that there is a Sony Ericsson seehcri Control Device connected. If I navigate to the Driver information of that device the driver is pointing at the Windows System 32\drivers\seehcri.sys driver.
When I try to update that driver to the Fastboot driver it says there are no 64-bit compatible drivers in that folder. Are there 64-bit drivers for fastboot?

Okay, Sony's fastboot drivers are not signed, so to install the drivers, you need to disable driver signature enforcement in Windows first.
Look here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721
Try this method.
Install Drivers
Fastboot Mode - Blue Light - Turn phone off>Press and Hold Volume UP button while plugging in USB Cable> Release the button (from being held) after the blue light.
Flash Mode - Green Light - Turn phone off> Press and Hold Volume DOWN button while plugging in USB Cable> Release the button (from being held) after the green light.
Common problem is it doesn't stay too long on specific mode
You will need drivers try downloading Xperia Z driver here - http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-z-driver/
(Optional in case you can't Install the driver correctly)
Install Driver first
1.Extract the downloaded file. (If it is in Zip file) in a place where you can easily locate it.
2.Connect your phone (turned on) to your computer
3. Assuming that you have My Computer Icon on your desktop.. Right Click it > Manage> Device Manager (Located at the left tab) > Android Phone> android ADB interface > Right click> Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for the driver software and locate where you put the XZ driver.
4.Done!.
It worked for me, hope it will work for you, too.
Guys, you can correct me if I am wrong..

My major problem is that i never get a blue light when I hold down the volume up and plug it in. My computer makes that sound like a uSB device had been unplugged in a couple seconds.
Also, I download the drivers, and with the device powered on, plug it into the PC. What I see in the Device manager is Sony sa0108 ADB Interface Driver. If I disable adb on the device I get nothing in the device manager.
Flashtool will not allow me to do the adb fastboot reboot either.
This is extremely frustrating!
Hello to all,
I would like to install a custom ROM but unfortunately my phone doesn't want to enter in flash mode! Once switched off, I plug it to my computer while keeping vol down button pressed but instead of entering in flash mode, it displays the battery charging icon.
I hard reset the phone but the problem still remains. Any idea.
Thanks, have a nice day!
My guess is either the USB cable (did you use the OEM cable?) or the drivers (does windows recognize your phone?). Removing the SD card or first entering recovery were suggested earlier (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/help/update-volume-connect-doesnt-t2613733). But more experiences Z3c owners may have better ideas...

Using flashtool:
Turn phone off completely.
Start flashtool, choose flashmode and choose which firmware you are going to use. Tick Exclude TA.. Click on flash.
It will start preparing the build and after a few seconds it will ask you to connect the phone.
Plug the phone in while holding volume down, as soon as flashtool starts doing something, you can let go.
If you don't know how to use flashtool then I urge caution, Sony's aren't like flashing a Samsung, it is actually possible to brick your phone with flashtool. There are lots of questions on 'how do I fix my phone?' in this Q&A thread from people who didn't read up on what they were doing.
Recommend you read bilboa1's great guide on what to do, starting with backing up your TA partition..
Thanks for your answers but I think the mini usb from my phone must be dead.
About Flashtool, I can't use it because I can't go into Flash mode! Moreover, my phone is not recognized by windows. I tried with several usb cables and computers when I plug it, I don't have any MTP or PTP choice, it can only charge..
On Windows 10, devices is not recognized and Window 7 see it as a 5880!
And I tried to remove SD and SIM cards..

If the USB lead was dead you wouldn't get the charging icon on your phone.
Have you installed the Sony drivers.
You also need to run exe in the Drivers folder within Flashtool, to make sure you have correct flashomde drivers available. Installing these drivers is very difficult in Windows 10 and it require restarting the machine in safe mode, and going into the advanced settings to disable driver signature checking, this how to video is for windows 8, but you'll get the idea
Have you installed ADB?
Sonys PC Companion should set you up with the correct connection to your PC
Have you tried other USB cables?

Yes, I've installed PC Companion, adb drivers but nothing appears when I use command "adb devices". I've also installed flashtools drivers but deactivating drivers signatures in Windows. But when I try to flash, flashtool ask me to turn my device in flash mode (switch off then volume down + power) but I can't do that.
I've tried several usb cables. Some are charging my devices, some are aren't but none of them allows me to data transfer!
I've also tried to force MTP or PTP usb transfer in developper option, it doesn't work more..

Do you have any warranty on your phone, you could be right that the usb socket is damaged somehow, but it's strange that you can still get a charge through it.
Your only chance at moving to a custom rom change is flashfire
This should let you flash a rom without recovery.
Edit: Flashmode is just holding down just - volume button, not volume+power
Obviously your chances of rescuing a failed install are going to almost zero without recovery and flashtool, so be very very careful about what you try and flash in flashfire. Read up completely that the rom you want to flash is going to work pushed on top of whatever you are running at the moment.
For anyone who might be interested, sometimes you have to try a USB 2.0 port or just a different port. I had the same problem while using a usb 3 port, switched to 2.0 worked like a charm.
Try to open the back of the phone and removing/unplugging the battery wait 5 seconds and then put it in again. Then try holding down the volume down button while you connect a usb cable.

Hi guys! I need your help. I have z1 with ROOT and custom recovery and i would like to update it to android m. The main probleme - bootloader, i should unlock it. But i can't do it because phone doesn't determined by pc in fastboot mode or flashmode and when phone is off doesn't determined at all. But even when phone is on, pc detected phone not always, just sometimes, and phone doesn't charging. ADB drivers is installed, drivers for flashtool mode and fastboot is installed. Command window says "waiting for device" when i want to boot my phone in fastboot. When phone is on ADB works fine. So i've read many topics about problems like that and didn't find the solution. Maybe can anybody help me please?
In ADB , use the command: adb reboot bootloader
The phone will reboot and you'll be in fastboot mode and the phone will show a deep blue notification light.
You need to install fastboot drivers from the driver package bundled along with flashtool before this. So u have to donwload flashtool first
Also, if u're going to unlock the bootloader then back up your TA partition.

Yeah, I did it, the phone was showing blue led, but then it goes nothing, then pc doesn't "see" the phone. I have already installed flashtool and drivers with it for fastest and flashtool. Also I have already made a backup of TA through flashtool.
So I can do something with phone through flashtool or adb when phone is on, but when phone is off I can't do anything. I have heard that reason of that problem can be broken phone's USB port. What do you think?
And sorry for my terrible English
I've connected phone to pc in flashmode through NDR Utils, but fastboot still doesn't work
honestly, im stumped!! . AFAIK its not a problem with the usb port cuz as you said it works fine with adb. Did you try a different usb cable.
You should probably try to reinstall the fastboot drivers
But if you just wanna unlock the bootloader then you can do that with flashtool I think.

Hi,
I wanted to flash stock lollipop ROM on my QMobile Android one for some reason using sp flash tool but it's not working for me.
When I click the download button and then pull off the battery of my phone then connect the USB cable with PC and put the battery back in, it doesn't start downloading,,,I have both drivers installed in my PC (sp flash tool drivers) and (Google use drivers).
Can you guys tell me how to get this problem solved.. As far as I'm concerned the phone is not getting into download mode and I think that's the reading why it's not starts the flashing process...
Thanks in advance for helping..
Do in this way; 1) Disconnect usb cable from the phone end while other end remain connected to PC
2) pull off battery from the phone for atleast 20 seconds.
3) Switch on download software mode through sp flash tool
4) Insert battery in phone and then connect usb cable to phone. Also press volume up or volume down button of your mobile so that it is detected by PC
Hopefully it will work
Thanks for the reply but I have figured out the problem..
The issue is caused by incorrect drivers Mediatek preloader vcom drivers are missing from my system so I installed those drivers and it starts downloading immediately....:good:
