It is a bit tight. Unable to press it properly for it to register a press. Sometimes when we press it too hard it registers multiple presses.

Go to asus or any repair shop to get your button out... if it comes without tearing down phone it will be cheap..((100 Indian rupees) if they have to teardown back panel then it will be costly (900-1000 indian rupees).. make sure to check every function after getting your device repaired.
Lil story
I faced Power button and air trigger issue 6 months after purchasing phone. I play pubg and my air trigger stopped firing in between no matter how hard i press L1 L2 (air trigger left - right). and one day power button got stuck. I was able to use that but it was stuck in phone.
Fortunately it was in warranty period and got both my problem resolved. Asus replaced my Screen IDK why ..but they told me it was the screen due to my air trigger was not working properly (Strange).. and the replaced my power button assembly too..

Got mine repaired for 550 INR

Modaco-Paul is working on Trackball Wake! http://twitter.com/PaulOBrien/status/14543157295
You should still have light notifications in 2.2. Is yours not working?
I only get White notifications and it doesnt blink as fast and work sometimes
Has anyone worked out exactly why these power buttons are dying? Mine's dead as a doornail too
this is pretty funny to me cuz mine was not working in the morning anyways i THINK it has to do with some dust collecting on it (like the trackball) i blew on it a lil and it started working again also i read somewhere else about a wire that has a 90 degree angle so you might try pushing the power button forward then down
This is certainly the most annoying issue on Nexus one...
I use a combination of "no lock" and "lock 2.0" to enable trackball wake and turning off via home screen. And when I need to reboot I use the "plug-remove battery-replace battery" trick...
If someone has better solutions, we'll be glad to hear them, since it seems that this problem will eventually hit all Nexus one users.
I use fancy widget - In the clock settings, I selected application when clock pressed (lock enabler app). This solves the locking problem without pressing the power.
Use the usual trackball wake as the unlocker.

My situation is:
My Nexus is with non funcioning power on switch.
What is the solution to power on phone after i need to switch battery or Sim Card,
Thank You.
I have the same problem. Is it hardware or software issue?
I used the call Google and get a warranty replacement trick
Seriously, just call and get it replaced under warranty, that's the only real fix. They are aware of the problem. My phone is rooted, I didn't mention that, and they didn't have a problem with it, and I got my replacement within a few days.
Now that they've stopped selling them, it may not be as easy, but worth a try.
This is a serious issue for people outside countries that sell the nexus one.
I live in brazil and I hope this problem doesn't appear to me because it's cheaper to try to fix it than travel to usa.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
As mentioned above, for people outside the US, replacement of the device is not an easy task; and even for those who get a replacement, the problem will eventually recur, since it seems obvious now that this is a hardware issue.
As for how to reboot the device: plug it to the charger (usb or main), wait for the orange led to turn on, remove the battery, as soon as the led will turn off replace the battery and the phone will boot.
I've had two bad power buttons, they were a hardware issue replaced under warranty.
Does anyone have any experience of getting a replacement from HTC in Singapore for this power button failure issue?
I bought my phone in the Google Online Store on my last vacations in US, I live in Mexico and call to HTC for the warranty but theres no solution outside US.
I use compressed air in the power button and works a little without the battery cover.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I had exactly the same problem. then i read about it in the nexus one forum and some folks mentioned, that deinstalling the app "advanced task killer" solved their problem. i tried it and now my power button is back to normal and working like a charme!
there is a program in the market to get it to wake from the trackball but I can't remember the name. I had the same problem and had to send it back to HTC and they fixed it for free. They told me there has numerous problems with the wake/power button.
Are ALL N1 fated to have the power button break? I just bought a Nexus One and i wan't to know if i should return it whilst i still can.

Put me in the broken power button club. After going through a few months of the power button acting up, well it finally quit working. The good news is I still have 3 weeks remaining on my 1 year warranty, the bad news is the N1 has an unlocked bootloader. I called HTC last night and they emailed me an overnight shipping label. I chose the repair option instead of replacement. I did not discuss the unlocked bootloader with them. Since this is a hardware issue I can't see why they would deny the repair.
BTW, that is a great link on how to get the phone to turn on, I kept trying all last night to get it to come on by pressing the power button. If they deny the repair I will have them send it back and try one of the alternatives to turning the phone on and off.
I am currently using the Evil desire rom, should I flash back to a stock rom before sending it back.
Thanks.

Power button malfunction?

I know this is a known issue, but I think i got a rare case here.
I had some random issues in the start, before 2.2 came out, when the first
I started getting this issue after going over to 84B(?) and had used the N1 torch (high brightness) till the light started flickering, after that the button hasn't worked at all, EXCEPT inside the flashboot(?) menu, there the button works after about a minute.
Im still lucky enough to the point that the phone starts itself when i remove and insert the battery again (might this mean the power button is already "pushed" in?), also, i installed the trackball wake function just before the power button started malfunctioning so i havn't lost control of my phone just yet.
Does anyone have any tips to get the power button working again?
Get a swap from HTC.
I've done it with a broken power button and unlocked phone.
There's a little problem with that, since I the warranty goes away when you unlock, i took the liberty to open up the phone (removing the warranty sticker over one of the screws). I was happy I did it back then, because my power button started to work abit after that.
Also, I bought my N1 through a reseller on ebay, right after the phone was released, i also live in europe, so i think there will most likely be repair costs to get it fixed.
Has anyone done this before? Does anyone know how much these repairs cost?

Nexus One Power Button Issue

I have read many threads about the issues that the Nexus One has with the power button. I feel that my situation is a little different, so I wanted some opinions on this. My power button is completely unresponsive. I can't use it to turn the phone on, wake or lock my screen when the phone is on, etc. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently using the track ball to wake my phone, so I'm not having any real issues with day to day operations of my phone. I was completely convinced this was a hardware issue (and still am), but I wanted to be 100% sure it was a hardware issue before contacting HTC. I downloaded Quick Boot from the android market which allows you to reboot your phone, boot your phone into your Bootloader, and boot your phone into Recovery. I decided to boot my phone into Bootloader mode to see if the power button would work there. The power button didn't work in the Bootloader, but neither did the volume button (prior to this test, I had no issues with the volume rocker at all). I pulled the battery and let the phone boot up to check and make sure the volume button was still working when the phone was running. Once the phone was booted up, I had no issues with the volume controls. My question is why would the volume rocker not work in the Bootloader? Also, could the issue that prevents the volume rocker from working in the Bootloader be preventing the power switch from working while the phone is booted up? If there is a chance that it's a software issue, how would I test/correct the issue? Thanks your help.
Most people I have seen complain about that problem, send the phone back for a free repair because it's a hardware problem.
The best way to test it is to flash a stock rom.
Thank you, I will try reflashing the FRF91 stock firmware and see what happens. Thanks.
Definatly sounds like the power button is broken. I had one like that. Send it back for a repair/replacement.
I've checked my immediate suspicion, and it turned out to be correct - so I'm posting the result:
Your power button is actually stuck in "ON" position (pressed).
Anyone can test it, press the power button to wake up the screen, keep it pressed, every operation is allowed in the system and volume buttons work. But when you reboot and try the same in bootloader, having power button ON disables the rest of the buttons.
My screen doesn't wake when I press the power button. Any other ways to check if it's stuck in the "ON" position?
It's 100% determined by your description. The only other check would be running any kind of SW that shows the current key states, and I'm not aware of any such SW.
I've posted the checking procedure for people with working power buttons, so they can verify the findings.
Any way to fix the issue?
If you're technically inclined and can't use warranty, I suppose that getting to the power button and repairing/replacing it wouldn't be very difficult. But no other way I can think of.
has anyone tried to repair this?

A DIY can not be too difficult and you may be best to search YouTube. It can not be too terribly difficult as long as you can open it up and remove any connecting ribbons (I've had to replace my girlfriends iPhone digitizer due to phone falling out of back pocket onto concrete from three+ feet up). As long as you can open it, you're fine. Just going to need to re-seat the button. Good luck!
Greetings,
I had the same power button issue. I was able to wake my phone using the usb cable whenever the screen timed out but otherwise the phone worked 100% of the time in all ways. I got an RMA and label and shot the phone to them in an anti-static wrap with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides and foam padding on top of that. The phone was in perfect condition. Well to cut to the chase. I got a quote of 196.00 because they said there was water damage!? I treated that phone better than I treat my own body! There was no water damage when I sent it in. So one of their folks send me images of a phone that has a broken screen, water damage in the base usb port and no inscription. Interestingly all of the angles avoided showing the ein or s/n. My phone has a laser etched inscription with my name and a couple of bible verses. So what am I supposed to do here? Pay another 196 for an 800 dollar phone that had nothing wrong but a power switch? I am a T-Mobile customer and an Android developer in good standing. What the heck!? Can anyone give me a suggestion on how to get this squared away? My only other option is to send them $28 to get the phone back with the same power button issue. It's even under warranty until Jan 28th.

we should admit that our fb0 is nearing its 3years.. its too long for a smartphone so far it has done well
with physical components like powerbutton and volume button wear/tear is common. my suggestion is that you should visit customer care. no other option.

Take it in for warranty m8
Might be worth waiting for the battery to completely drain and then try and turn it on after getting some charge in it.
I've had problems recently, after using OTG, the tab's display will just turn off, and when I mean off, it's just the screen, the tab is actually still on, as you can feel the heptic feedback, the only way is to force reset using the power volume and home key.
Another problem, still recently, I had about 12% power, so I just connected the USB to charge the tab, the screen started to flicker and then nothing works, after 10 minutes reconnected the power, and it started to charge up from 0%, it seems like the tab has gone haywire, I had decided to trade it in the next few days for the xperia X performance.
Not even bothered to take it to samsung service center (still under warranty), I can't stand their customer service, my tab has been through a repair before, my home key died and it kept on grabbing the side of the hole and sticking down, they replaced the part, but left something inside causing a lump at the back, problem sorted out, but the buttom kept on grabbing the side of the hole and not coming out if you press it slightly on one side, I even showed them the problem, and they agreed, and they say that a normal person won't press the button like that, and it's normal, I did mention that I have tried a few units and does not have the same problems, they just said it's normal, so I said to them if this is normal what isn't normal, and do they tell all there customers if they have a problem that its normal.
So I am completely sick of there BS, trying to keep away from samsung stuff.

Got rid of it, it should be a problem internally, anyway I've traded it for a Sony Xperia X performance.
Mine also died few days ago. I tried to charge it with different chargers and cables but without any success. POWER +VOL DOWN is not rebooting the tablet.
Now I am planning to open the back cover and will try to disconnect the battery. I believe it will help.

Unfortunately, no. It didn't work. I removed the back cover and managed to disconnect the battery. I left it disconnected for few hours, then I put everything back together. After, I tried to charge it and power it on again but without any success.
Any advice and suggestions would be highly appreciated.
