Navigation gestures help - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Hi all, i’m new to the pixel family and have a pixel 5. My issue is with the gestures navigation, when I’m watching youtube or playing a game, i have to swipe twice for the gesture to apply, in my previous oneplus only one swipe was required. Is there a way to change it? Thanks

Where is gesture navigation in Nokia 8 Pie beta?

The video posted on twitter by Juho Sarvikas depicts a gesture navigation UI, but that's nowhere to be found after the update.
There won’t be any as nav gestures require software nav buttons. We just get new multitask UI and that’s all.
Also, to have that new UI with dock and access to apps drawer you must use system launcher. If you change it to 3rd party one (like Nova), you’ll only see recent apps on multitasking screen.

All they really did is take a screenshot from another phone running Pie that happens to use on screen navigation keys and slap that onto the Nokia 8 for the Twitter post.
What's this multitask UI feature ?

Gesture navigation?

I've been using a OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 regularly and have become very much so used to swiping to go home, back, recents, etc. In fact, picking up my old Pixel 2 XL feels like a step back in terms of usage.
I understand there are apps that can mimic the gestures, but they aren't always 100% and can sometimes cause issues (Fluid N.G. definitely doesn't work 100% of the time and can be clunky feeling). The native gestures found on OnePlus, Xiaomi, Huawei, all feel great since they were made for the device and what not.
Based on every bit of footage I've seen thus far on the Galaxy S10/S10+, there are navigation buttons by default. Does anyone know if Samsung has made any gesture navigation to use instead of the buttons? I never thought I'd get used to using gestures but now I can't go back.
Cheers!
Yep Samsung does. Slightly different then others, but basically swipe up on left side to go back, swipe up middle for home, and swipe up on right side to go to recent apps. That is provided you have the navigation orientation the way it's supposed to be with back button on left and recents on right. Swipe up and hold middle for Google assistant

Personally I am not a fan of the Samsung gestures and 3 swipe zones can be complicated if you use different hands at times. It is one of the cons I am considering for getting the S10 as I would have to install fluid if I got one
you can completely hide navigations buttons in android pie - samsung - and use gesture (swipe left, right up down)
i am using them and it was difficult at first and i still get the random misfire but is better as you get 100% screen no button bars
you can find this option in settings
GMD gesture control does this and much more. I use it for years.

That's true, yes.
On the play store there is an app called edge gestures and there's also one made by Francisco named fluid ng. Both are very good.
as for Samsung gestures you can get a good preview on how it works here. https://youtu.be/KptBndWmvqY

Are the Samsung gestures always on by default or one can turn them off?

I second that Fluid NG is a great piece of work. Kudos to the dev.

No, it's stock button layout. You can enable the gestures if you so choose.
Talking about gesture, anyone know how to activate/how works the gesture to close an app?
I can see it on a few videos but can't replicate it for some reason? Are we suppose to swipe up a few times?

You just swipe from the middle once.

Do you need to activate it?
I'm not talking about the bottom swipe, I'm talking about apparently anywhere on the screen swipe.
i switched from iphone x to s10
and am using the samsung gestures + FluidNG , but limited the Fluid Gestures to only back from left and right parts of the screen the same as i do with the iphone , so now everything is good without the need for ROOT etc..
Try the Good Lock app from Samsung Galaxy Store. The app gathers all the enhancement software from Samsung in it. The one hand operation + uses gesture and is configurable.

Persistant Nav Bar

Hi,
I'm currently searching for a way to make my S10's navigation bar persistant in every app. (also in fullscreen apps)
If you watch a youtube video or play a game on a device without hardware keys its not possible anymore to switch instantly.
When i remember how easy and fast it was on my s7 edge, a single click from everywhere got me back on my homescreen and a double tap on the menu button switched to the last app.
In my S10's settings i found something in setting/display/navigationbar but the gestures are not really an replacement. (especially when you use your phone with one hand)
I don't know how bad screen burnin is when i have the bar on the whole time but if the buttons where black it would not be a problem i think?
cheers

MIUI 12 Bugs with full screen gestures

Anyone notice this problems?
The mini player of apps like Twitch, YouTube, etc. doesn't work with gestures, only with buttons, also the miniplayer only work if you use the gesture of google assistant. (Swipe from a corner)
Another bug is that sometimes the gestures got bug and i can't do the home gesture with an app on 1st plane.
And finally i notice that the super wallpapers are bugged and you can't download or update, well i found that if u turn the buttons instead of gestures you will be able to download... Idk if they update this or only was a coincidence when i was doing test, if someone can test this and confirm it would be great.
If i can im leaving YT links with the problems( also sorry im using a spanish system that's explain kind of my bad english)

Navigation gesture laggy with Nova Launcher

Hi,
I've read many things about that, but for me, colling from a Oneplus 9 pro, the problem is new...
I use nova launcher, and navigation gestures are so laggy...
Is the a way to solve that?
Same here, so laggy and can't seems to find a solution
There is no solution -- it's a known issue with 3rd party launchers that there's a delay on returning to home. Get the same on Lawnchair 12 a5, Nova7 and others.
500ms delay or so on returning home
I am coming from Xiaomi 11 Ultra, on Android 12 with Nova launcher and it is working fine there. I can also use Fluid Navigation Gesture.
Sad about the Oppo find x5, feels like a slower device because of this.
Read somewhere that said when returning, it would show recent items. If you go to Nova Settings, Home Screen, Scroll and set Transition effect to 'none', that gets rid of that

I can confirm this is not working. I'm using S21 Ultra and Nova 7.0.57.
I found something that could maybe help somebody else: it appears the issue with the home gesture only applies if you actually use the swipe up gesture.
I'm using Edge Gestures (app from Google Play, no root required) to swipe down from the sides to expand notifications. If I use this app to also invoke going back to Home (I'm using the swipe up gesture from the sides) the lagging issue does not occur.
I'm also using for all the other swipe left and right gestures, and it's great having to go back to Home in a snappy way at least for now.

In fairness, this is an Oppo Find X5 Pro forum
