Hi all, I'm having an issue with my s21 ultra..
I play (landscape orientatated) games on my phone, and when the phone swaps upside down, rather than the game flip over straight away, the phone freezes from anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds, before finally flipping.
During this time you cannot do anything on the phone, including turning off screen.
Sometimes it's worse and actually restarts the phone.
Only seems to happen with games.
Any ideas what might be wrong?
Are you using a custom launcher? It's known custom launchers can cause the exact issue that you're facing on Samsung phones.

I am using Nova.. Been using for years so never thought of that. I'll uninstall and try that.
Thank you

So thanks for the suggestion..
I changed to oneui, and it still froze. Uninstalled nova, rebooted and now appears OK!

Awesome! That's good to hear! I remember reading in the past that Nova was actually the one launcher where the issue didn't happen as much. But I suppose that's not the case with the S21 Ultra (cuz I had first read about and experienced this issue when I had a Note 20 Ultra which I then exchanged for an S21U. But after getting the S21U, I've just been running OneUI to avoid running into that issue again).
So unfortunately I am still having the same issue.. It's nowhere near as bad, and sometimes only freezes for a couple of seconds, but sometimes also takes ages as before.
I am not using a 3rd party launcher anymore.
Anyone have any other ideas?
This issue is persistent on all 3rd party launchers across all OEMs. I had the same issue with oxygen OS; MIUI, and One UI...I think it's an Android issue and not OEM related..
That's a shame, was hopeful of a solution
I also notice freezing when watching a YouTube video and switching from vertical to horizontal. You can still hear audio but video is frozen. Stock phone

I recently ran into an odd problem. I updated my phone from 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo Test 4, then to RC1. I use overclocker app, launcher pro, and advance task killer mainly.
My problem is: When I use my phone, sometimes the screen will not allow me to touch icons, unlock it, ..etc. All it does it move the notification bar up and down like I am touching the top of the screen. If I keep trying to "turn screen off, back on, off, back on"...eventually, I will be able to use the phone for a couple of minutes before it happens again. I tried disabling/reducing overlock settings, uninstalling launcher pro, downgrading 2.2 to 2.1 (ICERoM 2.8). None of this helps.
Any ideas?
Note: Sorry if this was explained elsewhere. I tried searching my best.

Where do you live? I live in florida, and this happens to me when I'm outside for an extended period on a really humid day. Once I take it in to the ac for a few, it's all ok.

Louisiana. Doesn't seem like that would be it though. My wife has the same phone and has never experienced this problem (she has OEM 1.6 version). I am leaning towards software issue.

Anyway, it could be a hardware problem, but it sounds more like a software issue. Sometimes this happens to me when the phone slows down. Are you low on RAM when this happens?
Nope. Ram is ok. 70+ Mb. Seems like it all started when I upgraded to 2.2. At times, the phone is unusable. Right now, it has been working perfect for a couple of hours. I downgraded to 2.1 thinking that 2.2 was the problem, but 5 hours ago, I encountered the same problem with 2.1. So that can't be it. Screen protector maybe?

Yeah, could definitely be the screen protector is changing roms doesn't help. Could also be a bad touchscreen, but most likely screen protector.

when i had one on my phone it would do this. i think its static tricking the touchscreen.
Noticed a minor issue with my note running RR. My screen gets distorted (No image displayed, crazy moving vertical green lines on black background) when I power on the screen It happens only once in a while but just wanted to see if this was normal. The image moves but I can't do anything else with it, but after pressing the power button off and on again the whole problem is fixed! I've had my note for almost two months now and it has happened around 6x already. I've ran various versions of RR and they are all present, I cannot confirm if this is rom related because I've never really tried using other roms except for testing.
Can't make a screen shot because I can't seem to replicate the issue.
once a while it happens. you havnt mentioned on which rom n kernel you are. dont think a big issue.
Yeah it's a minor annoyance but doesn't affect the phone's usability. So this is perfectly normal?
happened to me a lot of times, i forgot app what caused this.
Pixel Salad. Usually cause by franco kernel.
If I'm imagining what you're describing correctly, this happens to my Note whenever I watch video of any kind. Even YouTube.
I had it too few times when i get sms

I´ve had it happen to me a few times also. I get worried every time it happens because I think my screen is packing up. I started to think that it was ROM related(Alliance_ICS_v1) but NOW from reading your posts I realize that it´s NOT rom OR kernel related(NoteCore kernel) because it´s happening to people with different ROM´s and different kernels.I suspect that it´s a app related issue and Andrew0811 reported that IT WAS an app that was causing it.I hope he can remember what app it was because it would certainly be of great help.Could it possibly have been a Live Wallpaper,Andrew0811?

To me it´s a major annoyance and it most certainly is NOT normal. This should NOT be happening to a €700 phone and I for one believe that over time it will F-up your phone. Please guys, lets try to resolve this issue

If I remember correctly it happened once when I got an sms and once while I was playing music and powered on the screen. This rarely happens to me though so it's just a minor inconvenience for me. Don't know about you guys though. Right now I'm on RR7 with speedmod 3-6
Happened to me only once. Pressing the home button when screen was off.
Franco kernel indeed. Pixel salad is a nice description.
It did not came from my mind. That is the term they use if you read the threads in franco kernel and it happens to me also once when im on franco.

Nope, I don't like live wallpaper. not kernel either, because i only use cf, must be chainfire 3d or screen filter.
edit: well i tried franco kernel once, maybe it is franco's fault.

The few times that it happened to me was also pressing the Home button when the screen was off BUT I don´t use the Franco kernel(Ficeto´s NoteCore 0.6) so again I don´t think it´s Kernel related but rather a app that causes this. I stopped using a Live Wallpaper and haven´t had it since.I hope that was the cause and it won´t happen again.I´ll keep you posted.I´m determined to find the culprit that causes this.:fingers-crossed:
Hi everyone
since Marshmallow my Livewallpaers stutter every now and then. I'm using livewallpapers for many years and never had this issue. After unlocking my device or exiting an app the livewallpaper will stutter for 4-5 seconds... does anyone else has this issue as well and maybe knows a fix for it?

hi,
I do not have "fix" advice, but i can say this.
I only also use live wallpaper for many.. many, years on all my devices.!
Firstly, i have no "such" stuttering issues with Marshmallow. In general all my live wallpaper work smoothly. I have a large collection and only install, paid live wallpaper, as i believe overall it a bit better
optimize, than the free versions..?
I have however had other minor, issues eg
like my live wallpaper themes( thumbnails/ cache) failing /dissappearing. Not really an issue. Some other live wallpaper, force closes sometimes. (bad optimization)
Above issues i know, is due to 3rd party
issues and my device. (not related to Marshmallow)
Your live wallpaper stuttering is strange.
In my case i wrote emails to the 3rd party
devs, for assistance and to report it.
I must say i had very good response back from the relevant devs.
Ok, it did not fix some of my issues, but they tried.!
I have Note5 N920C stock Rom, not rooted. stock, Marshmallow version. (flashed with Odin )
Also i do not use Package Disabler.! (.?)
on my device... (possible, knock on effects.)
If it was me, i would try a factory reset.. sorry.!
O yes,
i must add that when i flashed
Marshmallow (Odin) i had issues with my
desktop widgets not sticking after reboot.
Had to redo my widgets over and over.
Also i think it's a 3rd party issues...?
Factory resetted, but issues started again( After a few days.)
Then suddenly it stop giveing issues. Now it fine.!
Now only my alarm clock icon appears when i switch Bluetooth on.!
Dissappears after a minute or two.
(This issue happend before, the factory reset and after restting, it came back )
Yes, a Marshmallow bug.! (in my software)
Bottom line,
it could be Marshmallow..issues or 3rd party /device issues ? ?
Good luck
In my opinion it's 100% Marshmallows fault... there are so many little things that I notice that won't work as before besides this Livewallpaper issue. I use Note5 Extreme Debloated ROM which is basically stock just like the name says debloated. I don't think it's a coincidence that my Livewallpapers work just fine on other devices and just not on my Note 5. There are few MM releases so far which I flashed every time hoping Samsung to fix this and so far no luck.

can anyone help?
Seems once again Sony can't seem to get a stable phone. Shame as it offers so much potential with good design and great specs but failing on software again.
Constant app crashes, phone freezing,
Just goes to show you can't just chuck all the latest bits in a package and think it will work.
Going to have to return this unless there is a sudden fix in the next few days as I only have a 14 day change or mind.
That hasn't been my experience at all. I got the US phone and flashed the UK firmware. I haven't had any issues whatsoever. You should try a factory reset before returning the phone.
I have it for 2 weeks now, no freeze or reboots whatsoever... European Firmware here...
My phone was purchased from O2 in the UK. Don't think there is much bloat on there so don't think it's O2 that's screwed it up.
Phone is completely standard with just a handful of apps on it.
So far I have had numerous '' email has stopped working' to Google stopped working to music not working errors.
OK Google seems to hardly ever work. Almost seems like it can't hear the hot word.
I also think that many of the push services are being put to sleep which is why the battery life is so could as I often don't get notifications until I wake the phone yet the same accounts on my old s3 always come through first.
So far had one update come out for the phone. Don't know if it's the latest firmware though.
I can totally not agree with you.
Well I guess all I can do is try reset then but it's such a pain in the ar#e putting all your info back in again.

Does the launcher you use rebuild your home screens after a reset? I still use Google Now Launcher, and after a reset, when I reinstall GNL, everything is put back in its proper place, even web browser page links.
I am using the US firmware, and have not experienced any of the problems you mention. You may have a defective unit. Then again, if you're not happy with the phone for other reasons (and there certainly are things that could be better), you certainly don't want to wait past the return date!
I'm running the UK firmware with the US OEM file to have Volte and fingerprint sensor on T-Mobile and has been rock solid since day one. I would reset.
Have reset the phone and just setting it back up.
Will see how it goes over the next few days.
One thing I did think that was odd previously when it was playing up was when it would crash and reset itself was that when it started up it was on the Google keyboard set up screen. I had installed the Google keyboard as I preferred it to SwiftKey. Maybe the issues were linked to that somehow.
Wow too many errors there... Probably a faulty unit... Or maybe u should do a software repair with Sony pc companion
Don't forget it runs Android Orea 8.0 by means a lot of third party apps may not fully compatible at this moment, consider not many phones running Oreo hence the app developers are not in hurry to tweak their app to run smooth in Oreo. That's what causes the occasional app crashes I believe.
OK so after the full reset and initial impressions are good. Seems smooth with no crashes. I'm back running nova launcher (previously instilled this as thought it might be linked) ive also not installed Google keyboard yet and giving SwiftKey a go.
Only issue that really remains is the one with the ambient sensor. Find my self having to switch the adaptive brightness off at night when using the phone as it jumps around. Need to then switch it back in on the day where it seems fine. Hopefully a fix comes for this soon.

On reddit someone write that he downloaded LUX https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitocassisi.luxlite and everything was working much much better. Maybe later i will find the post. (https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/)
No single reboot or app crash for me.
The only thing that crashes on me on occasion is Google Photos, other than that, rock solid so far.
Just had an a 3rd party app crash but as someone mentioned above it might be because the developer has not updated yet for oreo???
Other than that been much better so far

Same for me. 3 weeks i have got it 100% stable.:good:
Uhm ok I guess now it's my turn.
Today the "touch" went crazy. 2 times. Like for example keeping pressing recent button ? will result in multiple touches. Basically every touch is not a "pressing" touch. So I can't do swiping or other keep pressing relative touching. First time happened, a reboot fixed. Second time nothing worked. I have to SHUT DOWN THE PHONE AND WAIT A LITTLE BIT, then turn it on and everything was OK...
Is it just me?
P.s. UPDATE: I tried everything, safe mode, total reset, even software repair through PC companion...nothing. Its obviously a hardware problem, not software related. I returned this morning to assistance. They should give it back to me within a week...
My first week with XZ1C, 100% working, perfect, no reboot or other problems. One of the best phones I ever bought...
Phone's stable, no software/hardware issues. Working away reliably, battery consistently giving me expected results (ending day with 25%-50%, depending on use), connectivity perfect, performance smooth as butter.
I've been using the Pixel 4 XL for over a month now but lately there's a lot of scrolling lag. Especially on Google feed and Play Store. It doesn't matter if 90hz is forced on or off, it stutters and lags when scrolling and it's very unsightly especially when trying to show off against iPhone users who want to check out my phone. Other than that, performance is excellent.
I'm running 100% stock with the January update.
Anyone else facing the same issues and what could be done to alleviate or completely resolve it?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I know this is extra, but I factory reset my phone after every new update. I've done this for the past 10 years of owning smartphones and i've almost never encountered any sluggishness or lag.
If your issues still persist, RMA. When a factory is churning out hundreds of thousands or millions of a product and each product itself is made of hundreds of tiny electrical components, it could just be something defective. Sorry about your luck but I hope factory resetting fixes it!
Yeah I would do a reset because I have never owned a smoother phone.
I haven't done factory reset and it's been perfectly smooth here. I used to do it once a year but I didn't need to with my 2 XL and probably won't need to with the 4 XL too.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
Besides a random restart that hasn't happened twice, this phone is ultra fast doing all the every day things. Have never experienced lag on social media, YouTube, emails, web pages or any of the things you've mentioned. Maybe a reset is in order and it the problem still persists, warranty repair cause something is definitely wrong.
Well I factory reset the phone and the stuttering is almost gone. I guess it's normal for the play store and Google feed to lag a bit as it renders images/videos?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I get a little lag in the play store when I'm scrolling the main page (with pics and videos), but not really anywhere else. So far, this phone, like the last two pixels I've owned has been very smooth. I typically only factory reset when going from an Android beta to the stable, or if something isn't working right during the betas. I DO clean my phone and restart twice a week. I use SD Maid (rooted) to clean cache and such from system and apps. That works really well. If you're not rooted, unfortunately, most cleaning apps won't clear all app/system cache data. Anyway, something to try.
I've had the 4XL for almost a week and find some lag when unlocking the phone. The colour on the wallpaper will stay black and white for 1 second and then normal.
Also find swiping down for notifications will lag too after unlocking. Running stock, rooted with active edge mod and a font mod, ElementalX kernel.
Anyone else experiencing this? I mean it's not a big deal, maybe a reset and run everything stock to see if it continues.

Perhaps it is something to do with the mods and kernel causing lag? Try a factory reset like I did and see if that fixes it without getting rid of the mods.

So I noticed it's the way I have my unlock process. I didn't have soli on when coming to pick up the phone for automatic detection. I liked being able to just check what songs playing on the AOD without it waking up while picking up the phone.
For the last few days I turned soli back on for that particular feature and no more delay or lag.
