Since I have not found this particular solution anywhere but on a russion website I would like to share my findings with other users.
I am using an Android 4.4.4 Tablet X98 Air 3G with a rooted rom.
Problem:
Whenever I reboot the device, I have to enter wifi passwords again. The device keeps forgetting the wifi configurations.
I also noted, that /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf which should contain all my stored wifis only contained a single line: ctrl_interface=wifi0 and no further configurations or wifi passwords.
Solution A:
There is one solution suggesting to change build.prop settings:
My phone stopped remembering wifi passwords!
For some reason that completely escaped me, this here Samsung S3 mini stopped connecting automatically to my home network, always requiring me to re-type the wifi password. Since then, I noticed t...
android.stackexchange.com
I followed the tutorial but it did not work for me.
Solution B:
Adding the line update_config=1 to my /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, did work.
After rebooting my /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf was restored to:
Code:
ctr_interface=/data/misc/wifi/sockets
update_config=1
device_name=Teclast
manufacturer=Teclast
model_name=X98 Air 3G
model_number=X98 Air 3G
serial_number=Baytrail0C019B7E
device_type=10-0050F204-5
config_methods=physical_display virtual_push_button
network={
ssid="mySSID"
psk="mySecretPassword123"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
priority=1
}

I have managed to get andriod onto my compact v, but everytime i switch it off windows comes back on, is this normal??? Also it wont let me connect to the internet either by wifi or my data connection. can someone help?
many thanks
This is all normal: all versions are still in beta development, wifi and 3g work with latest builds.
Windows is still the main operating system that gets started when you turn on the phone. You can make it quickly switch to Android by using Gen.Y dual boot. You can find that on the forum here.
You're data problem may be caused by the wrong setting for cdma in your startup.txt. Follow the instructions in the beginning of this thread and on xdandroid.com closely.

Same here.
Korrekt APN Setting appleid.
STARTUP.TXT as well contains ppp.username ppp.password ppp.apn settings.
With force_cdma=1 no connect to any network. Even GSM doesn't work.
With force_cdma=0 GSM Works but no 3G/2G Connections. WiFi as well.
Alright guys, for fixing the wifi issue, before booting haret.exe switch "on" the wifi in WinMo. For 2g/3g data connection try to apply in android the APN settings and restart android, if this is not working try enabling airplane mode and disabling it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant device and a strange Wi-Fi connection problem.
It seems that the WiFi conneciton is being lost intermitently with no apparent reason. I ping the device, most of the time there is a 'Request timed out' and only sometimes a 'Reply from <address>'.
On the device side the connection behaves erratically as well, sometimes there is connection but most of the times there isn't. The strange thing is that under device's Settings->Wireless and network->wi-Fi settings the connection's status is "Connected" all of the time, signal strength is excellent, link speed is 54Mbps.
I had this issue on a native 2.1 Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant install, then decided to flash a custom 2.2 ROM hoping to end the mistery. The new custom ROM is an Axura21VE.zip and the WiFi connection problem is exaclty the same as before.
Does anyone have the same WIFi issue as I have? And yes, I did a search before posting this. In fact, I searched for several weeks and saw many SGS Wi-Fi problems being reported but either they are different or they are similar to mine with no solution. Since I need a stable Internet connection on the device for app development, next logical step would be looking at reverse USB tethering. Yet decided to post here before giving up on Wi-Fi.
For the record, the Wi-Fi acces point is under my control, i have a ASUS P5B-MX/WiFi i946GZ motherboard, windows XP sp3. I tried, I think,
every possible combination of Wi-Fi settings available. The only client device I have at home is SGS. At the office network, SGS is having the same
Wi-Fi issues, while a HTC Desire and many laptops don't.
here is what I just found out: if I do a constant ping form the device to google.com for example, then the conenciton is maintained all right. So, should I constantly ping something to maintain a decent connection? Is there a setting or something in Android OS I am missing?
I had this exact problem - changed my router and it works perfect now. Really weird and not an ideal solution but worked for me so far (touch wood!). Try playing about with your wifi config maybe, change encryption, channel etc. Good luck.
Hi, I'm having the same problem on my Galaxy S i9000 on Darkyy's v7.8. I never used to have this problem until I flashed the second to last release. The device says I'm connected to the network but I can't get any internet access. I tried reflashing my official firmware DXJPA, but I still no joy. I'm not really sure what to do.
YES... i have been searching for days. I feel I may have a similar issue. im connected, speed good, IP there.. no data, browser just hangs. seems to happen less in stock. (Rogers captivate, P10.1) also WiFi manager reads my WiFi channel off by 2!! so im set to use ch 9 on the router and WiFi manager on the captivate says its broadcasting on ch 7?? any ideas? ping to infinity??
side note: this happens on all routers and all roms. other galaxys on my network read proper ch... GF's Iphone see the right channel?? HELP..
I'm also having these problems, reposting my reply from another forum:
Just wanted to chime in that I am also having these problems with my samsung vibrant. Seems to only happen from my work router but happens very consistently. Wifi will work immediately after setting it up but after a short time period will stop working completely. It will say it is still on wifi but will in fact have no access to the local network or the internet. Stopping/restarting the wifi connection doesn't fix it. The router has to be manually 'forgotten' and then re-added for it to begin working again. (Update: sometimes this does not work either, in fact).
This is with a 2wire modem (standard issue by at&t) using WEP security in 802.11b/g mode.
Some people recommended switching from 201.11b/g to pure 201.11g. I tried this with no luck. It was also recommended to try to app 'wifi fixer'. This also did nothing to solve the problem. Given that it is my work router, I don't want to go changing the encryption and other crazy things as I'm not the only person using this router and it would break the connection for others.
MRSizzle in another thread (which xda isn't allowing my to link to) seemed to accurately describe the problem as such:
"It appears to be a driver issue with the Samsung base OS drivers in the phone. Possibly sleep policy is not operating correctly and the wifi radio is being disabled by the hardware and is not being controlled correctly by the software so the WiFI icon still appeers to indicate the phone is connected. Also the wifi signal is not being correctly reported. the signal appears to be attenuated more than it really is."
This description would line up with the OP's reports that repeated pinging will keep the connection alive.

ASK DARKY its his rom and will know more .

Anyone figure this out? I'm trying to use the Web Desktop app but can't because I can't even establish a connection with my phone!
Hi friends,
I have similar problem, but at first I easilly connected to Internet, but now I can connect to my WI-FI but no internet connection. I am not sure but maybe this has occur after updating to Android 2.2.
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.
explanation and apology
I was wrong in my assumption that it's an Android device problem. The problem was in the Asus motherboards embedded Wi-Fi access point. I bought a separate Wi-Fi router and now everything works like a charm.
Hello everyone, I know I am totally new to the forum but I assure you that before I wrote this, & before I even joined, I’ve been digging into all WiFi-related problems.
Before I post in this great forum I want to say that I owe all the developers here a BIG thanks, not only for development effort, but also for all help and guidance, it is you guys what make this forum and android community amazing! THANK YOU GUYS !!
The post might look long but I thought describing the issue in one brief post would be better in avoiding doing so in the form of many 2-line posts scattered through a 10-page thread.
Although my WiFi issue seems to me more like a hardware malfunction issue, it seems it’s one of its own where some indicators make me doubt it could be related to software too.
Here what the problem is about:
While I was messaging on WhatsApp, my phone suddenly disconnected from home WiFi & wasn’t able to reconnect anymore at all.
I now can only scan for wireless networks; here is how the problem takes place:
- As soon as I connect to a WiFi network, either it being secured or non-secured, the procedure gets stuck for 10-20 seconds at “Obtaining IP address from (Network ABC)”
- WiFi stays on but then shows “disconnected” or “Unsuccessful”, & (Network ABC) disappears from available networks list (unknown networks doesn’t)
- (Network ABC) reappears –> Device tries connecting to it –> Hangs in obtaining IP –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Device tries connecting to (Network ABC) –> Fails the same way –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Hangs completely in “Turning On…”, can’t disable or enable or anything, & got to reboot or battery would drain like crazy!
Things I tried (with no good):
- Resetting my WiFi router (other devices can connect to it)
- Connecting to other private & public routers that other devices normally connect to
- Fix WiFi using market applications: FXR WiFi fix and rescue, and Fix My WiFi
- Wiping cache & Wiping/Factory reset using the built in recovery on device
- Restoring a non-safe system recovery img that was created before the problem started
- Using RSDLite to flash the XT860 5.5.1-112 sbf available at sbf.droid-developers.org
- Safestrap: Wiped cache & dalvik cache, Formatted /system, then Wiped/Factory reset
- Connecting WiFi while on other ROMs (in safe system): CM9, MAVROM 4.5, DarkDroid 1.1, & the rooted deodexed 2.3.6 Motoblur.
Other info & symptoms that may help:
- Mobile hotspot not working in the manner of WiFi: As soon as my laptop or another device tries connecting to my XT860 mobile hotspot, the hotspot disappears from network list on my laptop
- The problem started during my first WiFi usage after the enabling of APN mobile network data
- When I switched on WiFi while Mobile Data was enabled, phone showed a successful connection to my home WiFi ! But stayed for a minute or two, then disconnected, then mobile data would hang & wouldn’t get disabled without a reboot
- WhatsApp chooses random tones when a message is received, even after the many flashes I did (this might sound geeky to mention lol, but it all actually started when I was using WhatsApp, which works using radio)
- GSM network and Bluetooth are working fine
So what do you guys think? What is the chance of it being about the drivers or something?
Or is it totally a hardware defect that grants me a replacement especially that it started while on stock?
.

Given it survived an rsdlite flash I would lean towards hardware. I know people have had issues with rsdlite not flashing properly, you could confirm by using moto-fastboot to flash the device manually. It's a command line utility, I'm not sure how comfortable you are using terminal commands

Thanks, I'll try the moto-fasboot way..
But what if it is really a hardware defect? I once read that rooting voids warranty, I mean with all what I've tried to solve this, would Motorola still provide a replacement?

Fastboot flashing removes the signs of rooting. Same as RSDLite. It's what they would do for a software issue, it pushes the factory software image.
Lots of people in this forum have gotten replacements after having rooted.

When my Milestone connects to Wifi sometimes other devices in that same network seem to lose connection. This is even more likely to happen when downloading files or apps from google play.
When I disconnect the Phone from the network all other devices are reconnected.
Im running CM7.2.1, is also (i think less frequently) happened with CM7.2.0.
I have no special Wifi-settings. Everything is Auto. Wifi is encrypted with WPA2.
Does anyone have similar issues or knows how to fix this?
Last weekend I have connected 2 Samsung's (Galaxy S II) to the same network (dedicated 2.4GHz SSID for my mobile) as my Millestone (CM7.2.1) and all tree started to drop and reconnect continously for several hours, as the router (Netgear WNDR3700 running customized OpenWRT) started bringing the whole interface down and up. When I 'moved' my Milestone to other network all issues have gone ....
I am not sure if the issue has been related to a wrong network/router configutation/firmware or to the Samsung mobiles or finally to the Millestone soft/radio
Hello,
I've been searching the forum for a while, but can't seem to find the right sollution for my problem. Im currently using the Galaxy S Plus I9001 with the Slimbean v6.2 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296347]. My problem is now that it won't connect to the internet, i can send textmessages but no internet. I enabled roaming and data but i can't select any provider, but somehow it does it automatically. However when I press
*#*#4636#*#*
and go to phone information, no number is displayed and if I ping it is failing time after time.
Radiobutton is enabled, WCDMA preferred and my current provider is T-Mobile (I currently use a Tele2 Sim, Tele2 is using T-Mobile's network).
If anyone has a solution or a tip, please help me. (I also tried searching in the original ROM post but search function wasn't working.) I only had one ROM working on my phone and that was MIUI, however I don't like the speed / looks and i really like this one.
Thank you in advance!
Kind Regards,

Just a random thought: can you ping 8.8.8.8? If yes its only a dns related problem and can be fixed by adding "nameserver 8.8.8.8" to /system/etc/resolv.conf.
Thanks for the reactions! But somehow it worked again, i was on my way home in the bus and suddenly i received some whatsapp messages. And all of a sudden i had internet. Anyway thanks for the help!
